View Full Version : When/Why did Previews and stuff get evicted from GD

I finally realized today that this had been going on when I saw people talking about even more previews that I'd missed.

I don't like it.

I've been used to seeing them in GD. It's not like there isn't space. Sometimes HALF the page comes up in light blue and dark blue threads rarely spill over onto page two.

This has to be post-Superman because I saw nearly all the previews and leaks for that in GD.

Can we go back to the way it was?

Feel free to post that you want it to go back or if you like it this way.

'Bout a month. Less an eviction than a sort of Jerrymandering, perhaps?

Probably to piss you off.

My impression, some people couldn't handle the idea that spoiler threads, marked or not, were in GD and then complained when they clicked them that something was spoiled. So they moved them to an out of the way spot.

That's what the "New Posts" button is for. Why not check that?

As far as I know, all previews are supposed to be posted in the Upcoming Sets sub-forum. That's where I have been putting them when I run across them. :)

I can't say I'd noticed.

In general, I see what's formally posted on the main page (http://www.hcrealms.com/) and, scrolling down, what the current hot topics are in a variety of forums. If something new's been posted somewhere it's likely to be in one or both of those spots. I don't generally go directly to the forums to browse.

I like it, it fits in the rumors since it already covers all the preview stuff, so why not put preview articles there? Its not a space thing, but it prevents seeing a front page of like 6 preview threads with little to no useful content outside of "Its cool, I'll (play it/not play it)". Yawn.

But if you post anything other than "Its cool, I'll (play it/not play it)." The next post will be the complainers complaining about the complainers.

I agree that a bunch of "Wow. Cool." posts are boring.

I also agree that redundant preview threads are annoying.

I use my CP to do basically all my navigating. If I don't see anything going on in the threads that I'm already in, I click on "HeroClix Realms" at the top. That takes me to GD. To get to the Rumors area I have to click again, and it seems like such a mess in there. It's hard for me to tell what's truth and what's the guys still wishing for stuff like TMNT. You can certainly count me as one of those guys, but I'd like to be able to find the current Previews (and the unofficial leaks as well) all in one spot.

The Evidence threads are great, but I find it hard to sort through it and find the figures that have previews with them.

It was all just much easier before.

I've only clicked on "Home" a dozen times in my time here since I'm not much for reading articles and the previews are often hidden behind that kind of stuff.

You are correct; every preview/review/spoiler have been moved to it's own subforum of General Discussion (which can be filtered by set). General Discussion is now only for officially released items. On the day of a set's release, official discussion about that set will stay in General Discussion (all previous discussion will not be moved).

It works out better this way because most of the conversation prior to a set's launch is mainly speculation. Once a set comes out; the flow the thread switches from guessing to known facts.

I don't have to waste time looking for news, thanks to HCRealms.com's forum management tools the news finds me.

The "Evidence" threads are a HUGE timesaver for new information. Ditto "Dial Lists." I am subscribed to both and get an update from my home page when I log in. :)

I like it because now I don't see 6 threads saying "so and so is up on wizkids" all trying to be the first to leak the new goodness for their own personal accolades giving them something positive in their lives. :)

ding ding ding! :) I like this fact as well, and this was one of the catalysts for the change.

Any suggestions on how I could make it easier? Have you tried searching the page for "preview"? Every official preview has a link with that word. Also, starting with Hulk, the figure list page links are only to official previews.

I have, but the word "preview" comes in at different points in each character's info and at first I thought it was always at the end so I missed a bunch until I saw people talking about them.

Maybe have different symbols next to the charcters on the left hand side for their "bullets" that indicate the level of "spoileyness"?

- character in set
= character in set with number
+ character in set with number and dial
* charcter in set with number and dial and preview or spoiled info and/or pic

Example:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Into The Night

* 002 Street Thug: (Sales Poster) (Ad Poster) Common. Dial spoiled! (Preview)

= 003 Foot Ninja: (Ad Poster)

* 013 Shredder: (Sales Poster) Tempest33 thinks this could have been one of the figures in Fast Forces pack. (Tempest33 FF). (Ad Poster) Common. Dial spoiled! (Preview)

= 027 Casey Jones: (chrisghast) (Ad Poster)

+ 033 Triceraton Commando: (Ad Poster) Dial spoiled! (Facebook)

- TCRI Alien: (andywacro) Single-based. (Maddragon13-2)

It's just an example of an idea of how to do it, and probably a bad one. But it's all I can come up with right now.

I could hyperlink the name of the figure if it has had a preview, like I do in the set list, I suppose. That would probably be less obscure than using symbols. (I'm still not sure if I like the bold, italic, plaintext arrangement on the sources.)

See? I knew there was a better idea.

You know, there are more response options than "Cool, I'd hit that," and "This is a sucky figure..."

There's analysis of the dial, comparisons to similar figures, team inclusions, new teams now possible due to existence of that figure...

If you tear into a new figure, you'll get some 'defense attorneys' rising to cross-examine you. If you don't act like you're personally offended by the figure, the counters will be less harsh and you'll probably find more agreement.
