Is there a way to tone down the E-Mail notification? I'm getting as many as 6 notifications for a single post.

Are you talking about thread notifications? If so; you can change it to a Daily email notification (in Options). There's nothing in between "instant" and "daily" though.

I've tried that but I still get bombarded.

Personally, I get bombarded both ways with up to 6 emails per actual notification. I've been meaning to check into it but never did when this thread popped up.

Switched to daily notification and it's toned down a bit but I'm still getting multiple notices for single posts.

I got 12 daily notifications for a thread that had two posts... And a total of 37 notifications for 20 posts/threads. This thread sent me 2 notifications, which I found both ironic and amusing.

Can't you just turn off the notifications? I think I did.

I'm happy to get the notifications. Ones for individual threads just compound under one email entry in my gmail, so it isn't as if it's scrolling my Inbox by taking up multiple lines.

I could see where it might get annoying if someone were to be accessing all this via a phone or other, small, wireless device they were carrying around, but I'm only accessing my mail with desktop computers.

Make sure your settings are not set to automatically subscribe to a thread you post in. That's what I had to do a while back. I don't need to be notified every time somebody responds in a thread I post in. That's the only way to stop the notifications I believe.

Yeah, I do almost all of my realms browsing from my phone. Makes it easier to just get a daily update to catch up on the convo. And I always go for instant notification on the Evidence threads, as well as the dial lists and Ranking the Figures threads, to keep up on the latest news and gossip.
And for what its worth, I have no problem getting 20 notifications overnight...as long as its for 20 subscribed threads. But I typically get 2-3 emails per actual notification, and the pileup is occasionally annoying.

On a different, somewhat related matter, I get daily notifications that include the same posts on multiple days. By that I mean that after day 1 I get the summary with the 20 posts from that day. Day two, I get the summary with 40 posts in it...tge original 20 that I've already read, and the next days convo as well. Is this normal? Are there settings for this?

I disabled notifications, so that when I subscribe to a thread by posting, I won't get emails about it. When I click User CP, I can still see updates to threads though :)

I'm not really a fan of dredging this up a month later, but I just got 10 email notifications per 3 posts to a single subscribed thread. I disabled notifications for most threads, but there are still a couple that I want notifications to...just not 30 notifications for 3 posts. Is there really no solution to this, and it's just something I have to endure?

Nope; just the 1 email. Let me check the database to make sure that it's not allowing someone to subscribe multiple times tot he same thread. that might explain it. Especially if you have an "automatically subscribe to thread I reply to" set.

Nope; only unique records in the database; so that doesn't explain things.

You may be getting multiples because of the rapid-fire replies that people do. So if 5 people reply to a thread, you're going to get 5 emails just because you picked "instant" as the option. Is that the case?

That doesn't seem right because this thread was dormant for quite a while then with the one post, I got a single notification first, then six more on the same post later.

Sometimes I don't get any notifications.

Very odd; because based on this chain of replies, I have had the correct number of emails (2) based on my "instant" subscription.

Ad you say you're only getting 1 email based on this reply?

I turned off subscription completely since I mainly rely on using the control panel to see any new posts.

When you turn off subscription, it doesn't actually turn off subscription, it just cancels the emails, so you can still click the control panel option to see your subscribed threads.

I've seen that happen in some cases, but not all are due to that. The three posts and 30 emails I mentioned earlier were from Crow's OHC thread, and there weren't 30 posts there! (If specific examples help, that was the latest one.)

Yeah, but that's not really as useful...especially considering that reading email is much easier via phone than going through several links to read the same info.

And here I thought it was just me. I have the same problem with multiple notifications. The emails are always all recieved at the same instant in my queue, and are in response to only one post. The number of e-mails varies anywhere from one to nine. Recieving only one does happen, but it is very rare. I usually get at least four. If there are actual multiple responses in the thread, each of those responses generates several notifications.

I can't help but notice that those who are saying they are having this problem are also generally those who have been here for a long time. Since I've been here since the early days, I'm also no doubt subscribed to a vast amount of threads, since I've always had my membership set to automatically subscribe to threads I post on. I don't want to turn it off, because I like the e-mail notifications.

The first page of my hotmail inbox this morning was filled mostly with reply notifications from HCRealms, and I don't post that frequently.
I actually found this thread today because I wanted to bring this issue to someone's attention.
I'm not sure how long it's been happening, but it's definitely been that way for a very long time, and it's finally starting to interfere with my 'normal' email usage.

I can see where it would quickly become a nuisance to a new user.
Hopefully you find a solution soon.

I am pretty good about keeping the number of subscribed threads down to a page or two at most. And I always change the subscription email notification setting to "none", "weekly", or "instant" (in the case of my trade thread or the store's schedule thread). When I post a reply in a thread, and forget to change the setting immediately, I have exactly the same problem...I'll receive the exact same notification 4 to 6 times a night, sometimes when its a thread that hasn't had any new responses since I last read it!

One notification is all I want, and it most definitely is not a case of "instant" update setting responding to several posts in a short period of time. Glad someone brought it up, since I find myself deleting 6 emails on my Blackberry or PC instead of one.
