Nate’s family is huge into Heroclix, so although young he already has a lot of experience to draw on. When asked about his slow start, Nate said, “To me, it’s about having fun and just playing makes me happy!”
He also said that he probably won’t drop right away, but he definitely wants to get into the tournament scheduled for later today.
“I want to try to go home with something. Maybe I’ll win a raffle?”

How long have you been playing?
About 3 months. My dad used to play and he showed me how.
What is the best figure in the Modern Age Metagame?
300 pt. Black Adam, for sure. If I had one, I would have played it. Black Adam is the super-villain I like the most.
What do you think your chances are today?
I came to have fun, but I might be able to win a few more games.

Both players came into the last round undefeated and both are almost certainly guaranteed Top 8 berths, but don’t expect them to take it easy. This is all about bragging rights.
Both players used the early turns to push their respective Quicks and get into position for the inevitable beatdowns!
Jackson engaged by moving Metron, carrying Johnny Quick, and placed Quick adjacent to Superman, but made sure to not block Metron’s line of fire to Superman. Jackson used outwit to turn off Superman’s Hypersonic Speed and perplexed Johnny’s defense to 20 then passed.
Karmell outwitted Quick’s Super Senses, then used Jonah to block line of sight to Metron. Then, Superman smashed Quick with a heavy object for the KO.
First blood to Karmell.
Next, Jackson chose to have Metron pulse wave and hit Karmell’s entire team for 1 damage apiece. Jack rolled for Price of Knowledge, hit a 1, rerolled and hit another 1. Then, Jackson outwitted Probability Control on Karmell’s Roulette and passed.
Karmell pumped Superman’s attack up to 13 and used Running Shot to Psychic Blast Metron. He needed a 5 to hit but rolled a 4. Johnny Quick came in for some damage but also missed. Carmel repositioned his team and passed.
Jackson used Metron to outwit Superman’s Invulnerability and came in with a Johnny Quick for 3 damage on Supers, knocking him down to his Support click.
Karmell perplexed down Metron’s defense to 15 and his Johnny’s damage to 3. Jonah tried to break away from Metron but failed. Then, Karmell’s Johnny Quick came in for 3 damage and rolled a CRIT HIT! Jackson forced him to reroll, but Karmell rolled another CRIT HIT!!!
Metron outwitted Johnny’s super senses and hit him for 3 damage and got the KO. Next, Jackson’s remaining Johnny Quick ran up to the wounded Superman and finished him off.
With that, Jackson’s Metron and Quick made short work of Karmell’s remaining support pieces.
JACKSON WINS!!

I love how I whine about having to play metron, nightcrawler, or kid zoom in order to be competitive (in a post above). Then you post the figure ratio above, and there are only 2 NC's and 1 metron in all 8 teams! This gives me hope for the meta game.:classic:

MAP: Ferris Airlines
Joining the match in progress…
Roel attacks with Nightcrawler on Hawkgirl. Crawler needs a 7 to hit for 1 and he gets it. He drags her all the way back outside to his starting zone into Black Adam’s waiting arms. Black Adam comes in for 7 with a heavy object, enough to KO poor little Hawkgirl.
Jason responds by sending his Flash into one of Roel’s Questions and lands the hit. After Roel clears his guys, Flash finishes off Roel’s wounded Question. Next, Jason has his own Question roll for the Gem, and gets it with a 6.
Roel zooms in at White Lantern Flash with Black Adam, but Flash hits his Shape Change and heals for 1. Black Adam is forced to abort his attack, stranding himself in the middle of the map, dangerously close to the Gemmed out Question. Next, Roel sends in Crawler to ping the Gemmed Question for 1, then drags her away from his vulnerable Black Adam and back outside to face his other Question, still top dial. Roel’s Question pings the Gemmed Question for 1 more.
Unfortunately for Jason, since Question was dragged away and Flash was pushed, he has no way to capitalize on Roel’s unfortunate positioning. He was forced to pass the turn back to Roel.
Roel wasted no time pushing his Black Adam back out the door to KO Jason’s wounded Question.
On Jason’s turn, he sent in his Flash to smack Roel’s remaining Question down, then KO her on the next turn.
After some false starts, due to Flash rolling multiple successful Shape Changes and healing to full and Black Adam finally getting knocked off of Hypersonic, time was called. Jason had about 5-6 turns to finish Adam off, but just couldn’t reliably hit Black Adam’s high defense.
Roel WINS!

Mike won the roll and picked Krakoa.
MAP: Krakoa (no special rules; orange squares are blocking)
In the early turns Mike positioned his team near the center of the map, but still on his side. Jackson pushed his Johnnys in preparation. Mike had Psylocke roll for Mjolnir, but missed picking it up.
Mike opened by pushing Psylocke to TK Nightcrawler across the map and hit one of the Johnny Quicks for 2 and pulling him back within outwit range of Mask Killer, whose outwit he used to cancel Johnny’s Hypersonic.
Jackson bodly phased his Metron all the way across the map to base Mask Killer. He perplexed his defense to 20, outwitted Diana’s perplex and passed.
Mike perplexed up his Mask Killers attack to 11, rolled for a breakaway charge and hit it. He moved away from Metron and then back at him. He needed a 9, rolled a crit miss, used his only theme probability control to reroll, rolled an 11, then rerolled again for Metron’s probability control and rolled a 6. Next, Mike pushed to send him Crawler at Jackson’s other Quick but missed the attack. Finally, he moved Diana Prince next to Metron and passed.
On his turn, Jackson came at Nightcrawler full force with both Quicks. Mike missed both the Shape Changes, but only one Quick managed to connect for 2. Next, Jackson successfully Pulse Waved Diana, Mask Killer and Psylocke for 1 each.
Mike based Metron with his 3rd click Psylocke, perplexed her defense by 1 and passed.
Jackson perplexed his Metron’s defense to 20 and passed.
Mike went for it with Psylocke. He perplexed her attack to 12 and rolled to Blades/Claws/Fangs/Exploit Metron. He rolled a crit miss. Without a Probability Control, he took 2 damage, 1 for the push and 1 for the crit miss. Next, Mask tried and failed to hit Metron. Then, Crawler successfully hit the unwounded Quick for 2.
On Jackson’s turn, Metron KO’d Psylocke. He made a few token attacks against Crawler with his Quicks, but missed both.
Mike rolled a couple of breakaways with his figures. Mask failed, but Diana got away and based a Quick.
Jackson outwitted Mask Killer’s Combat Reflexes and KO’d him with Metron.
Mike pushed his Diana to finish off a Quick and succeeded.
Jackson KO’d Diana with little effort. He then tried to smack Crawler with Johnny, rolled a CRIT HIT, but Crawler Super Sensed out of it.
Mike passed and Metron pushed to KO Howard. Johnny finally connected on Nightcrawler for the win.

Roland won the map roll and chose Science Cells.
MAP: Science Cells
Roland wasted no time. He moved his 3 Spider-Men up toward the monitor womb. Jackson did him one better by moving his Metron, carrying a Johnny Quick, into the heart of the monitor room.
Roland got right in there, pushing a Secret Invasion Spider-Man into the room. He outwitted Johnny’s Super Senses and took a Psychic Blast attack for 3 damage, dual targeting Quick and Metron. He missed Metron but Johnny took the full 3.
Jackson finished his Metron’s long journey by basing Cave Carson and a Researcher in Roland’s starting zone. Metron outwitted Cave’s speed power and perplexed his own defense by 1, then passed.
Roland used Professor X to outwit the wounded Johnny’s Super Senses and then pushed to finish him off, but missed, needing a 5 but hitting a 3. He then moved a Spider-Man to base Metron and passed.
Jackson tried to hit the monitor room Spider-Man with the wounded Johnny but missed. He ended his move outside the room, around the corner. Johnny perplexed his own defense and Metron did the same.
Roland pushed his Spider-Man to flurry Metron. He missed the first attack, due to Probability Control, but then hit with a critical. Alas, Jackson used Impervious to roll out of it.
Jackson smashed Cave to death for 4 and now with the line of fire clear, he outwitted Professor X’s Psychic Blast.
Roland moved a Spider-Man to block for Professor X.
Jackson attacked Spider-Man for 4. Roland missed the Super Senses and took it to the face. Jackson perplexed his defense by 1 and passed.
Desperately trying to get back into it, Roland attempted to Psychic Blast Metron but missed.
Jackson came in with a Quick on the less wounded Spider-Man for 2 through Super Senses. He cleared Metron and passed.
Professor X perplexed down Metron’s defense by 1 and went for another pushed Psychic Blast attack for 3. He needed an 8 and hit! Metron was knocked down to Super Senses!! Next, he went for a series of impossible to hit attacks with Spider-Man and Ben but missed.
Jackson finished off a Spider-Man, perplexed his defense to 19 and passed.
Roland rolled for the crit hit with the Researcher… but missed.
With the way clear, Jackson sent in his Johnny on Professor X, knocking him down to his last click. Finally, Jackson Pulse Waved the remaining members of Rolands’s team, KOing the wheelchair bound philanthropist.
At that point, inevitability took over and Roland conceded the game.

As I said in another thread, great job on the write ups. I haven't read the play by play on Jackson's games yet but am looking forward to it.
That scientist team Roland had was pretty awesome. Mike V is a terrific defensive and careful player and Jason is a great no holds barred attacker. It was nice to see a variety of play styles.
I had a great time.
Edit: just finished reading the semi-final and final game. Very nice! I see that Prof X had first chance strike against Metron. You gotta be happy with that. Unfortunately for him he missed and I think it was probably game over after Metron based Prof X.
Also, something subtle to note is how good the "one pair of dice per table" rule really is. There were three crit hits in my game against Mike V and there were several sixes and fives rolled in my game against Jason C. Because there was one pair of dice, then any kind of doubt on the dice are erased and the game can proceed as it should.

Coverage was/is an awesome touch. Definitely something to add that bit of "official flair" that Heroclix OP really needs. I encourage people who checked this out and liked what they saw (People who attended or even just followed the event from home) and or have any comments/suggestions to post it up in this thred. Aside from being the head judge, Billy was going from match to match with his laptop to record these as they were happening. A lot of time and effort was put in; hope to see more of this kind of reporting in the future!

Good question. I'm curious what showed up in the 300 point Golden Age event.
And also thanks for the updates and the write-ups. This is how coverage of Heroclix should be.
Anyone who is familiar with how magic/wow/ygo coverage is, ours will be similar. We have a website and all the coverage/video/pics will be up. We have so many cool articles about the event. We have force lists, metagame breakdown, etc throughout the week. I will post here about it.

Very cool. WOW TCG and Minis had some of the best coverage I've seen and I've long thought it's a model that Heroclix should adapt.
Hi Patrick, just wanted to say, you through a great event again. Rolling those low numbers was just a small downer compard to all the fun it was playing this last weekend. You have a great competitive group of players, with some really competitive teams. Hope to see you at the next gen con.

Wow no Kid Zoom:confused:
There were Kid Zooms in the main tournament, but none made it to the top. I think he's shifted out of the meta a bit, as people are starting to find ways around him, and at 87 points, he doesn't do much for your build.
The Meta, at least in this event, seemed to be that everyone was running a ton of Perplexes, 3-4 on a team, and pumping up their defense numbers on their tentpoles really high. Regardless of what powers you have, if you don't hit that 21, you aren't doing any damage. It can be gotten around, but you have to alter your order of attack because of this.
Very few Bullseyes played, which surprised me.

Hey everyone, just wanted to check in. This is Roland Wellington, aka the 1st looser. ;)
On behalf of all of Team Vegas, we had an amazing time at the 1K. We wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped put it on, especially Patrick & Billy. Those are some awesome guys.
The event was a huge success and fun was had by all of us came down. We'll definatly be down again, either for another 1K event or for WonderCon. If you guys do put on another event let us know. We'd be happy to help out in any way we can. Maybe even have some qualifiers or something up in Las Vegas.
And a big Congratulations to Jackson for kicking my a** and winning the whole thing. You will forever be known in Las Vegas as that d*ck Metron player who beat me. :p
Seriously, you played a hell of a game and tournament. Spend the money wisely. Like on a road trip up to Vegas for a rematch or something. FYI, 16 year olds can get into strip clubs up here.

So this is Calen, older brother of Jackson. As most of you who played him realized he is a man (er boy?) of few words. He wanted to express how much fun he had, and how good everyone he played was to him. A special shout out to the out of towners Mike, Karmell, and Roland who he played in the top a 8, your kindness and skill meant a lot. It was spectacular to see guys from around the country coming together to play a game we all love. It was a great event, and we really hope to see both the locals and the new faces around at tournaments in the future!
