View Full Version : A Few Questions..........

Playing in a sealed booster tourney a few questions came up that have probably been covered here a few times. Please if anyone can give a definitive judgement:
1- Characters with Invulnerability, Toughness, or Super-Senses ARE allowed to reduce or avoid the damage from Mastermind. Impervious and the Skrull/Shape-change cannot, right?
2- Let's say Superman is carrying a forklift and Abomination. Can Superman set the object down for Abomination to use immediately thereafter, or would Abomination have to use a move action to pick it up, or can Superman even set it down?
3- Hovering characters DO need to break away, but hindering terrain has no effect, right?
4- Let's say a character with free-movement due to a team ability wants to break-away. Do they get to do this for free?
Thanks, and I'll have more.

1- Characters with Invulnerability, Toughness, or Super-Senses ARE allowed to reduce or avoid the damage from Mastermind. Impervious and the Skrull/Shape-change cannot, right?Well, yes and no. If you Mastermind damage onto someone with Invulnerability and Toughness... that damage is received from a power (Mastermind), so Invulnerability and Toughness will work. Super Senses will only work if that figure is hit by a successful ranged or close combat attack. Since Mastermind is not considerd an attack, Super Senses will not work.
So, Invulnerability/Toughness = yes
Impervious, Super Senses, Skrull, Shapechange = no
2- Let's say Superman is carrying a forklift and Abomination. Can Superman set the object down for Abomination to use immediately thereafter, or would Abomination have to use a move action to pick it up, or can Superman even set it down?Once an object is picked up, Super Strength then becomes a 'Not Optional' power. So, Superman would not be able to voluntarily drop the object,
3- Hovering characters DO need to break away, but hindering terrain has no effect, right?Jovering figure will need to break away from adjacent opposing figures (unless they have a power that will allow them to break away for free). Hindering terrain will have no effect for movement purposes.
4- Let's say a character with free-movement due to a team ability wants to break-away. Do they get to do this for free?
Well, yes... as long as before you declare the breakaway, you declare the team ability....so, you'd have to say something like "I'm using the Avenger team ability to attempt a breakaway"... then this will not cost an alloted action, but will still assign an action token to the figure (successful or not)

1. Don't know.
2. Unfortunately for some stupid reason you can't put something down of your own will once you pick it up.
3. Yes
4. Yes, it doesn't coutn against your action total but, they receive a token wether or not they are succesfull on the break away.
Anybody know the answer to #1?

1) I don't know off the top of my head, so I won't answer.
2) No character can choose to put down the SuperMindControllingObjectofDoom. The only way they get to put one down is if they loose superstrength (or have it outwitted).
3) Hindering terrain has no effect on hovering characters, who hover right over top of it.
4) Free move does not allow you to ignore breakaway rules, it just gives you a movement that does not count against your per turn action allocation.

Fantastic, thanks guys. And Tsannik this is the second or third time you've answered a rule question of mine quickly, completely and very well. I appreciate it man. Now tell me why one of my favorite characters, the Leader, is good to use, please!

I can only reiterate the rules...
I cannot come up with miracle strategies. :p
Seriously, I'm not sure how he would be used effectively. Strategy and Tactics aren't my strongest points.

Tsannik, just a quick question related to #2 that was asked earlier... if someone with both a ranged attack and super strength picks up an object, can he/she still make a ranged attack without using the object (ie just a normal ranged attack) or do they have to use a close combat / ranged attack with the object?
Just wondering because if V Booster Gold, for example, scoops up a dumpster, then sees a character come within his normal 10 square range (but out of the 4 square heavy object range), can he blast that guy with a normal attack or is he confined to attacks with that object only?
Thanks in advance for any help you (or anyone else) can give. :)

Tsannik is DA MAN!
Well....when it comes to the rules anyways....
if someone with both a ranged attack and super strength picks up an object, can he/she still make a ranged attack without using the object (ie just a normal ranged attack) or do they have to use a close combat / ranged attack with the object?
A figure with Super Strength who currently holds an object:
When making a ranged attack may CHOOSE to use the object or make a regular ranged combat attack (except RCE because he is still using Super Strength to hold the object)
When making a close combat attack MUST use the object in his attack.
