View Full Version : How is knockback damage into a wall/off a roof applied?

The specific example would be if a piece with toughness takes 2 damage from a figure, and is knocked back into a wall/off a building, does the damage get applied all at once, or is it applied separately?

The character in question is Solomon Grundy. If he takes 2 damage (-1 for toughness) prior to the knockback damage, if he then loses toughness he'd have to take the 1 or 2 damage from hitting a wall or falling off a roof, respectively.

However, if the damage is applied all at once, he would only take the 2 damage from the attack (-1 for toughness) and take either 0 for hitting a wall, or 1 for the fall off the roof (both modified for the toughness).

The FAQ didn't seem clear on this matter.

Any rulings/modifications for this in the future?

Knockback damage is applied as part of the attack damage, so all one lump sum. Invul/Toughness are applied once to the sum. So if you have a Toughness figure who is hit for 2 natural damage but it knocks the figure back into a wall the damage total will be three, reduced to 2 because of the Toughness. But remember to do the toughness reduction before you move the figure for knockback. Basically if the figure gets hit for 2 and has Toughness the net damage is currently 1 (2 - 1 for Toughness) which would mean the figure gets knocked back 1 square. If the figure is againsta a wall already they instead of moving it takes an additional click of damage, taking the total taken to 2 (2 natural - 1 Toughness + 1 Knockback). So the figure takes 2 total clicks of damage at once. If the knockback would push the figure off of a building then the total damage would be 3 (2 - 1 + 2). All of the damage is applied at once and Toughness only reduces it once.

Does this help?

All of the damage is to be applied at one time
