I finally saw him, and MAN he is skinny! I honestly am beginning to believe it may be Ultimate Spider-Man, but unknowingly for Wizkids. Like, they intended it to be normal Spider-man but he has really come off as the Ultimate version. I dunno, what do y'all think?

ps: I apologize if this is a dupe thread of a topic already mentioned. If so, please dont beat me like I was yesterday by Savage Hulk =P

I am studying my Spideys and the differences in the sculpts are so slight (shades of red & blue, eyepieces & musculature) that I can't imagine it was intentional.

However:

I read the "normal" Spidey books regularly but not the "Ultimate" (yawn) ones. In the ones I read it has been YEARS since Spidey has spun the old "web-shield-that-looks-like-Captain-America's-shield" shield. I'm talking '70's-'80's here (yeah, he still makes web-shields but not ones that look like that). I don't know it the "Ultimate" (yawn, yawn) Spidey has picked up the habit. If so, this would be a good indicator that he is the "Ultimate" (yaw -sorry.) Spidey. If not, maybe this is the swinging '70's Spidey I'm looking at! Why not? He is a Unique!

Ultimate ( AWESOME! ) Spiderman has not yet made a web-shield, as far as I know. I hope they do make an Ultimate ( TOTALLY AMAZING ) Spiderman. So, in conclusion, I am pretty sure this unique is not Ultimate ( BEST WRITING IN YEARS ) Spiderman.

I don't want anyone to think I'm an "Ultimate" apologist, because I've NEVER read Ultimate Spiderman.
However, the above 'brand' of editorial commentary about the Ultimate storyline seems antagonistic. (As do SO many comments on this forum) Why not just say you don't care for the Ultimate storyline. Why belabor the point repeatedly. Are you trying to pick an argument with someone? I'm just curious about the source of your attitude.

Bendis is one of the best writers in Comics, period. Ozymandas was just showing the world how ignorant he is.

He probably thinks MacFarlane makes interesting comics.

I think just because the figure is smaller than the other Spiderman clix that have come out doesn't necissarily mean it's the Ultimate version. Though I'd love if they did an ultimate version of him I think he's smaller because of the pose they have him in. If they made him regular size it might have unbalanced the base.

Just my 2 cents

Bendis is cool very cool however, I must agree with the (yawning) the comic hasnt done much for me. I was really really really turned off by the green goblin looking like something from the gargoyles cartoon.

Bendis has been incredible anywhere else he writes I just dont care for the spidey book. It might just be the art... ive never liked bagleys art....

best spidey writing in years.... have you been reading amazing spiderman??? Best art and writing that ive seen in years on this book.

back to clix... isnt the green goblin in this set the ultimate version??? wouldnt it make sense then that this would be the ultimate spidey?

My take is this. If my arch-enemy is the Ultimate Green Goblin, then I must be the Ultimate Spider-Man. (And yeah, he does look a little shorter and skinnier in this set.)

*echoes webheads sentiments*

If his arch is ultimate gobby, then he must be ultimate spidey

I just meant best writing in general, not to put down the current Spider-Man lines, which I also like. It was just my immediate response to someone attacking something I like.

I don't think that just because his Arche Enemy is the Ultimate Version of Green Goblin that he necessarily has to be the Ultimate version as well. Looking at the Design Notes the Designer makes no reference to the Ultimate line for Spiderman like he does for Goblin. I think they just figured since they did both a Goblin and a Spiderman might as well make them AE's.

I may be wrong but the fact of the Web Shield would support the Non Ultimate Version argument.

hehe maybe the webshield is a hint to something coming up....

I don't have the fig here with me... but it looks SMALLER, overall, than the Spideys in previous sets. Smaller, as in smaller scale.

Scale varies from figure to figure in the set. Captain America and Iron Man are both huge, whereas Mr. Hyde and U Spidey from Xplosion are both kinda teeny...

I just realized that they didn't do Designer notes on Goblin but I guess they don't have to mention he's the ultimate version it's kinda obvious.

Well it seems pretty obvious to me it's the Ultimate Spidey...

I've been reading Marvel for nigh-on 30 years, an' I kind of enjoy the Ultimate line...I don't find Ultimate Spider-man AWESOME or TOTALLY AMAZING, just a simple, well-written, easy read comic...

On a side note, anyone pick-up the latest issue of the Avengers (#65)? Coipel has re-IMAGEd everyone bar Cap and Viz.....I don't mind Marvel ####in' with the Mythos in Ultimate, but please de-IMAGE earth's mightiest heroes...

Whoa! I didn't mean to freak out the Ultimate fans & I'm not knocking Bedis either. The yawns went a little overboard & if I could edit them out I would! Alais is one of my favorites. My problem is the "Ultimate" universe in general. They launched Ulti-Spidey what, like a year after Byrne just finished his revamp? Do we need a new origin story every year? I feel that the multiple versions of a character end up lessening the legend of him in the long run. Couldn't these stories be made to work in the regular MU? If there's a demand for Spidey-in-high-school stories couldn't they be done a la Untold Tales? I like the Ultimates (begrudgingly) but I'd still rather be reading those stories in the regular Avengers books. We don't need another Nick Fury who's black but Nick could get thrown out, have an African-American replace him, Yellowjacket could beat up his wife (does Janet really need to be an Asian mutant?) & Cap could put him in his place. It works just as well in the regular MU as it does over in Ulti-Land.

Back on topic - I would have preferred a regular Green Goblin (surprised?) to what we got. However, it makes perfect sense the his arch enemy must be the Ultimate Spidey. I thought that that GG's base actually said "Ultimate" and Spidey's didn't. That would have made things different. I just checked & that is not the case. Neither say "Ultimate".

At first I must say the Ultimate universe sounded like the dumbed down kid version of the real universe... everyone cried too much about having to read 20-40 years of back issues to follow the current storyline... jeeze thats what collecting is all about. Personally I loved that...
Then... the issues started coming out.. and man was I supprised. Ultimates turned a cheesy second rate book into a nice updated refreshing look at the characters, doing stuff that for some reason everyone had been to afraid to do in the real universe.
Ultimate X-men somethings I like somethings I dont. Honestly at this point Ulitmate X-men is more realworld than the crazy stuff being printed in New X-men and Uncanny.
Ultimate spidey... again never impressed.
The other books havent really grabbed me as of yet either....
Personally I would like to see the Ultimates replace the current avengers in the real world. First issues of the avengers revamp looks nice but i must say... wtf is up with ace of spades... how lame.... big dc influence there.

I would like to see the writing of ultimate x-men take over the real world, h.ell I wouldnt mind seeing ultimate x-men as the real world book...

lol i think ive lost my way in this post so ill just end it here hehe... hope it made some sense and wasnt too off the overall subject...

rambling over :)

Ace of Spades?

Houndz

pretty sure that was his name... looks like something straight out of the cheesy DC universe rogue gallery. Has a queer looking outfit with a spade over his eye... no idea on ablities just plan horrible looking.... first time I ever saw him was some blurb in wizard mag about the JLA/Avengers crossover... thought he was one of JLA and dismissed it... but now seeing that he is actually a regular character.... essh hopefully revamp of book will off him shortly or force a change to that god aweful name and outfit.

Highlights of that first revamp issue... scarlet witch and vision. Never been a true avengers fan but have always been a fan of those too and they looked pretty cool in the book. Cap was... well cap is cap and was pretty decent... everyone else we will have to see. This is the first time ive touched avengers in years... But again blending ultimates with the realworld would be nice.

Very interested to see what an ultimate(fantastic) four book will look like...

Oh and I forgot to mention before... Extreme X-men I believe is the most underated book in a long time... I hate the name... just reminds me of Rob Liefield too much... but it really gives the feeling I used to have from the old issues of the x-men before chris left.

again sorry for ramblin... hehe too much coffee today :)

Jack of Hearts is the name you're looking for. He originally appeared in Marvel Premire, i think issue #48? Guys been around for about 20 years. Pretty under-used in the MU...

Here's a mod I did of him...

Jack of Hearts (http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/bc/cyberglum/vwp?.dir=/Heroclix&.src=ph&.dnm=Jack+of+Hearts.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//uk.photos.yahoo.com/bc/cyberglum/lst%3f%26.dir=/Heroclix%26.src=ph%26.view=t)

lol I knew it was a card. I think for being around 20 years they really should have given him an updated look before digging him out, and if that is an updated look... essh... again... not big avengers buff by any means but this guy, awful... he soiled what looks to be a nice revamp. I am not saying that everyone in the book had spiffy looking outfits... but man this guy stuck out like... well... like a DC character in a marvel book hehe.

Jack of Hearts always did have a pretty garish uniform, lol.

I know it sounds anal, but I was wrong about his first appearence, think it was actually in Hands of Kung-Fu, forget the issue....soz.

We kind of hi-jacked this thread eh?

I didnt like Ultimate SPidey at first [in fact a comment by Aunt May about ADD and surfing the net' made me stay away for a LONG time] but its a particularly good comic and then Venom story they are doing now is MUCH easier to stomach with Venom being a scientific breakthrough than an Alien from the Secret Wars [wish he kept the Black costume for a little while longer though]
