This weeks first annual figur of the week is none other than the master of controversy himself FIRELORD!!!!!!!!!!!
Now im sure everyone has heard everyone elses opinions on this so called master of cheese. Now the figure itself is not at all without a weakness. Unless no one else has noticed vet. Firelord's range is only 8, he can easily be out ranged and dealt with. The biggest concern i have when i face firelord is he is so easily healed. Because we have all played against the guy who thinks firelord and r. vulture is the best combo ever, and whenever flord gets damaged he runs back to heal him. Now i HAve not yet figured out a full proof plan for this, but my ff team dominated a flord team without mercy. I put mister fantastic in cc with vulture and firelord, and just brought the thing in to beat him into the floor, and vulture and flord could not breakaway. But he at cc flord can still do 3 damage nuthin to shake a stick at, but its alot better than 5. It also works to out range him and just kill rook vulture so he gets alot less usefull. Now im not saying that firelord is "Borken" or the greatest character in the world, he just has a weakness like everyone else, he may b a lil cheap, but i play hc for fun, and part of the fun of it is figuring out how to defeat different characters. So if u always use flord, watch out b/c someone is gonna figure out how to beat it then ur team is screwed, u can't always depend on cheese to win u a tournament.

Flyers can still make ranged attacks against people who are beside them. Firelord can always do 5 damage unless he gets outwitted or he's fighting someone in stealth.

Thank you jofo i overlooked that rule
just knock out his taxi and he'll have big problems gettin back to his healer. or better yet try kocking him once then find a way to knock the healer out, i personally recommend thor (vet) or iron man (vet) plus a cheap fast taxi to go up run and shoot bam knock out his lights a mixture of a few con artist would be nice, but wat if the ol firelord player uses a lot of con artist to enhance the range now that wouldn't be fun no more wouldn't it, its bbecause of his points he's too cheap yet too powerful so a lot of support can be added

If you perplex firelord's range then he's only going to be doing 3 damage. You can't use RCE with any other super power. That includes perplex.
yes, you CAN perplex his range, you just can't perplex his DAMAGE.
In response to JoFo's comment that you can make a ranged attack against an adjacent figure, has this been ruled on the rules state you can make ranged attack when your range is greater than zero "and your character is not in base contact with an opposing figure". This sounds like to that you cannot be adjacent period. Someone show me the way. Thanks.

The rule is - you can be btb with someone and make a ranged combat attack against a hovering character (or vice versa) UNLESS there is a second opposing character btb with the attacker.

Correct me if i'm wrong ppl'z but 2 my knowledge, you can perplex damage. I just did it last weekend, with beast on himself or Shadowcat, his taxi.
Oh, n for taking down Firelord, i always have a mindcontroller on my team, n with other pieces assisting, pump my mindcontroller to atleast 12att. and either use his firlord 2 push n take out either his taxi or his medic. Den control him again, n put him between my c/c fighters :)

Isn't he saying you can't perplex his damage and still use RCE. You can perplex his range without affecting his ability to use RCE...right?

You can not RCE can't be used in conjunction with any other super powers except Probability. PERIOD. Team abilities are allowed however.
A hovering character can attack multiple opponents in B2B using Range Combat, however a grounded character can only make a range comabat attack against a hovering character as long as he isnt in B2B with anyother opponents

OK, folks...
Let's clearify this.
If Cyclops is BTB with 2 enemies; Hulk and Spidey lets say...
Can Cyclops use his ranged attack against them?
I always played that figures could NOT used ranged attacks against BTB targets.
It sounds like hovering figures add confusion, so let's talk about grounded figures first.... thanx,

NO... if all figures are grounded... Range combat can not be used.

Cool!
Make sense...
Now, if there's a DR Doom, and he's "down" and in BTB/CC with my Cyclops... can Cyclops attack with Ranged Combat?
I know that if Doom was "soaring" they wouldn't be considered in BTB/CC, even id their bases were adjacent on the map.
Just for clearification... Flying figures have 2 states, "soaring" and "hovering", right? They cannot be "grounded"?
Thanx again,
FeralParrot

Your cyclops can RCE doom when doom is hovering even in B2B..... plus if Doom is Soaring, you outwit his soaring with a Black Panther who is 5 squares away and then have cyclops who will then be adjacent to doom and doom his but with RCE.

Wow,
Can Cyclops shoot at anyone else, while "hover-doom" is B2B with him?
If so, it's like flyers are never really in "full B2B close combat".

no only doom

So, I can still use a flyer to move in and "turn off" a dangerous shooter, like Vet Cyclops!
He can just shoot at my guy... bummer for him. :^)
Thanx for all the info!

Still confused. Can cyclops RCE a hulk in btb contact? My answer is no.
Can cyclops RCE a doombot in btb contact? Sounds like you're saying yes. If so where, is that coming from in the rules?

Cyclops is a grounded figure. As per grounded figure rules, if he is in b2b contact with another grounded figure he cannot make ranged attacks. If he is in b2b contact with a flying enemy figure (or any number of flying enemies as long as there are no grounded enemies in b2b) he can use a ranged attack. This is a side effect of hovering figures being able to use ranged combat against any figure in b2b.
Uhm... you definately can't outwit soaring....
Mr. Pilkington
04/02/2003, 15:39
Actually you can. You cannot Outwit the flying ability itself but you can Outwit the ability for the flyer to be soaring. The flyer is considered to be hovering during the period that the Outwit lasts.
when did they change that? Last I knew you couldn't outwit a power that wasn't on the actual dial itself.
Mr. Pilkington

It is straight from the PAC:
Instead of a power, you may choose to cancel a fl ying figure's ability to soar.
Ah, would you look at that. Guess I never really needed to use it and thus forgot. I was looking all over the FAQ and didn't see it there, obviously, because it was on the original PAC after all. I know that I've been told by judges that you couldn't though, so boo to them.
