Now that All Stars is over I realized I still have a modding itch and would like to run something of my own. So I went back to an old idea I discussed with KoBo a while ago and realized that yup, this should work nicely as a game. Thus I give you: Fawlty Towers Mafia!

This game will have room for 20 players. No more, no less - with a theme like this I expect to get that number fairly easily. No riff-raff.

Start date: January 9th - I need some down time from modding right now, and then it's the holiday season, so early January should work nicely for me.

Yes, I sort of assumed that with a theme like that it would fill up in no time. I blame the holiday season though. :)
By the way, the whole show should be available on Youtube for those that wish to study the source material. It is only 12 half-hour episodes. They didn't need to make more.

Mafia is a game of deception and luck.

There's a number of players. For example, we'll say 16 players. A number of those players are Town members. The remaining numbers are Mafia members. There may also be one or so many neutrals in the game depending on the game. The Town members are typically blind to each other. A Town member only knows who he is, and it is his job to figure out who the mafia is and eliminate the players who are mafia from the game. The mafia knows who the mafia is, and each member can communicate with each other outside the game thread so they can coordinate actions and plans. The Mafia must eliminate every member of the town. Neutrals have their own win conditions that they must meet to win. Sometimes the Town and the Mafia have to eliminate the neutral players depending on the type of roles.

Each player is assigned a role that contains their ability (if any) and what alignment they are (Town, Mafia, or neutral). Once the roles are assigned, the game begins in a thread in the main forum. The thread typically opens as "Day One" and each day is divided into two parts. The Day Phase is when the main thread is open, and all players can freely post within the game thread. There they can discuss information they have to share with each other or cast lynch votes in order to remove a player from the game.

Once the day's time limit is up (typically a 24 hour cycle), the game goes into the Night phase. During the night phase, players with an ability can use their ability on another player, albeit in secret. They message the moderator of the game the ability they will use on the player they want to use it on. The Mafia coordinates their actions as a team, and they are given a "hit" that they can make on a player, effectively removing that player from the game.

After the night phase ends, the main game thread opens back up, and it is revealed who (if anyone) was removed from the game. The game progresses in this manner until either all of the Town are eliminated, or the Mafia is completely eliminated.

Skill plays a role in the game by the Town members using their individual powers effectively to determine who the mafia members are, plus paying attention to things said during the Day Phase. The Mafia also need to pay attention to the different Town members, trying to determine what powers the Town members have and who may be targeted at night.

Luck plays a part of the game because the players do not know who will be targeting who, and lies can frequent the thread. It involves uncovering the truth but also hoping you target the right player at the right time.
