View Full Version : Tournament-legal altered figs?

I just checked Wizkids and I don't see anything about altered figs in their tourney rules. Lets say I want to use Veteran She-hulk but I replaced her with a Rhino sculpt of my own design. Would that be a legal fig? The only thing altered would be the sculpt.

As long as the combat dial matches the base, what you put on the base does not matter.

That means absolutely no changes to the base. Looks like your Rhino is now an Avenger.

Rhino's name is also She-Hulk. (The name change really only matters for purposes of multiple occurrences of uniques on the team.)
Technically you all are correct....
But in tourney play... you better make sure that your opponents and the Judge know that you are using a mod.
If the Judge will allow it, and the players also agree... then you should have no problem.
Using another figure on another base can be misleading.... say if I like Human Torch's sculpt better than Firelord's..... and I placed Torch on a V-Firelord base.... would you know who you were fighting?
It all comes down to a fellowship issue also.
I generally don't have a problem with mods, unless they're confusing.
If someone says, "I'm playing a custom Silver Surfer with modified base, but he uses a Firelord sticker, but with the Defenders' team ability," ... I'm likely to be a bit of a jerk. After all, how does HE know how much the Defenders' team ability costs?
If, on the other hand, someone was to show up and inform me in advance that he was playing a She-Hulk with unmodified base who just happened to have a custom Rhino figure mounted on it... I'd likely let it slide. Even if it meant that Rhino was now a member of the FF or Avengers.
Then again, if someone ever shows up with a Shadowcat mini mounted on a Vet Firelord or Savage Hulk base at MY tournament, he's in for some disappointment... unmodified base or not! To me, this would not so much indicate "love of comics, love of the character, love of mods," as it would "an attempt to gain a psychological advantage over one's opponent by the use of a misleading figure," and I think I'd have a problem with that.
Way too many games where one moment's mistake or inattention means your opponent takes the round...

So you'd let me play with this (http://herolix.neomonsterisland.com/mymods/stitch.jpg) if I told you it was a V She-Hulk in advance? :)
Not to mention *your* custom mod of Magoon.
Magoon is borken!

I think Doomtoy is overcosted.
Is THAT why nobody ever wants to play with me?
Seriously, though... I've seen more than a few mods used in tournaments. I don't know about Stitch, though. I do know a guy who has a custom Manga Spider-Man, and I let him use it. Then again, it's a Spidey base. Another guy I know regularly uses a custom Silver Surfer on a Vet Firelord base. I mean, it's not like you don't know what's about to hit you...
See, your mod, Shin, is up to the presiding Judge.
I wouldn't allow it.
But I don't like Disney or Muppets.....

I've been allowed to use mods in tournements, as long as nobdy there has a problem with them. Which is fine with me, any chance I get to field an Aquabat team rocks...
Well I agree that this is a really touchy issue because it can lead to confusion at a critical decision...
I allow mods because they are comic fans that want their heros.
I do NOT allow mods of a figure that has an exsisting figure because they can use that figure.
Before Hawkeye came out someone had modeed him (very much like the figure ended up looking now that I think about it) But I wouldn't after because it was on a wrong base (don't even remember what base it was on).
I just let him/her know that they MUST notify at the begining of every round they notify their opponent of the mod and what base it is on.
Now there was one exception when someone was using two Doombot bases but wanted to have two other figs on the flying part. Put it to a vote of the people playing that night and if even one had objected it would have been disallowed (the player had the doombots to use just wanted to have some fun)
But generally don't allow exsisting figures to be modded on a different characters base (such as the before mentioned Mr. Storm on a Firelord Borken base)
