Was he really that good from a fantasy perspective though? I mean, yeah, he wins games typically, but his numbers were (I thought) pretty horrendous when doing so?

He is when he's scoring or throwing TDs. Plus he racks up a lot of yardage on the ground.

If you didn't initially draft a tier 1 QB (or, in my case, autopicked Peyton Manning and had to rely on Atlanta's QB as your starter) then I think Tebow was definitely an upgrade.

I was more than happy with him (enough so that even when Vicks started performing again, I kept Tebow as my starter - though part of that was because I wanted to believe in my team as much as I wanted to "win".)

In a TD league he could be pretty good.
I play in a yardage league and he's still pretty good, just erratic.

SNL can joke all they want. Tebow is a winner, and I don't mean in the Charlie Sheen loser kind of way.
I bet the Steelers aren't joking and laughing at this SNL skit.
Go Tebow. Now he just has to beat the Patriots. It will be tough, very tough, but I'd love to see the Pats fall to Tebow and Broncs.
I'd love to see the reaction then from all the haters.
I don't see any haters here, but in general, you can't turn on the TV, open a magazine, or listen to the radio without hating on Tebow. He is an honest man. I'd trust him being in the room with my 16 year old daughter and wouldn't worry. I can't say that same thing for Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, or Ben Roethlisberger.
But haters are gonna hate:

Just think of all of the things jesus could be doing instead of spending all of his time helping Tebow win yet another football game. I mean Tim really does ask a lot, and the party doesn't get started until someone transmogrifies the water.

Way I hear it, a lot of it has to do with religion. That, and possibly that they don't believe that he can possibly be as squeaky clean as he appears to be.

He also gives a lot of credit to his team, too. Says the Broncos make him look better than he is and refers to what most of us call 'Tebow Time' as 'Bronco Time'.

@VGA - I don't thin anyone on here (at the time you posted) was really hating that much. People can laugh at themselves and their situations and, heck, making it onto SNL? Not all bad. The skit has its' funny moments and this comes from a life long Broncos fan and a backer of Tebow.
@Len - That's a bit of a myth...he's never said that. Tebow has specifically his prayers are things like, "Look out for everyone's health. Help us to be to the best of our abilities / live up to the talents given to us. etc." He's actually shown disdain for the idea of praying to "win a game". Not trying to turn this into a religious discussion but, rather, point out that this is one of those Myths That Won't Die Which Distort from the Topic.

Um, thats all players do these days, who doesn't work hard, and how is that even measured? Its so arbitrary and flirting with hyperbole. I mean its great he's hard working and determined, but literally everyone who makes it to that level, and then excell has to have an insane amount of work ethic and willpower (with a few exceptions for freaks of nature ala Shaq and a number of baseball players). For example there's no way that you can tell me that Patrick Willis wants "it" any less than Tebow and every interview I see of him he's praising God and his team.
From what I've seen he doesn't do anything different then most other players, everyone gives credit to their team before themselves (even diva QBs like Brady seem to genuinely believe it when they say it) and he isn't the first guy to really bring the Jesus (See Kurt Warner, Jim Harbaugh and a multitude of other players), yet there's a lot of vitriol thrown out towards his direction, and on the flip side there's a lot of adulation.

Believe that if you want, but when a guy is down on one knee praying during an important field goal I am not buying for a second that his prayer is about the health of the ref. Besides how many times does he need to make that prayer. I don't know about the habits of omnipresent super-beings but a solid one of those once maybe twice a game should probably cover it.
At some level this ritual is about the game, like any superstition that any athlete in any sport has, it about playing his best, and even if it isn't specifically about winning, deep down it is about winning. The guy that checks the pads in his helmet three times before every game, may be doing it for safety but he is also doing it because he has always checked his helmet three times before every game and doing so has taken him to the NFL and has brought him success. It is no different for Tebow, just done to a way more annoyingly extreme level.

The praying is nothing more than Tebow's way of entering Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. It's totally a cheat code. How else do you explain the NFL's 28th best quarterback leading a team in the playoffs?

The SNL sketch is pretty funny. I have no problem with SNL, or other comedians making fun of him. That is what they do. I'm talking about the media's disdain for Tebow simply for his personal beliefs. Judge him on his football skills, and nothing else. But the media can't leave it alone. That kind of thinking is also a large part of why it's so entertaining to watch Tebow do so well. By being as vocal and harsh as they've been, Timmy T's biggest critics have turned him into the underdog, and as we all know, people love the underdog.
And it gets people talking and excited about what's going on. I can tell you that with my normal team practically done half-way through the season, I probably wouldn't be caring nearly as much about the playoffs right now if I didn't have Tebow and the Broncos to root for. That right there is good for the game, whether or not they're winning.
Not only that, but any time Tebow goes out there and the Broncos succeed with him at QB, it also manages to make his major critics look silly.
Critics: Tebow will never succeed as an NFL Quarterback! He doesn't have what it takes!
Tebow: *Becomes Starting Quarterback; Broncos win 7 straight.*
Critics: Look! Look! He just lost three in a row! We knew it had to be a mistake! Tebow's finished! Never mind that he got them into the Playoffs, they're playing against the Steelers! There's no way the Broncos can beat Big Ben and their super-powered defense!
Tebow: *Broncos beat the Steelers*
And now they're saying that the Patriots/Broncos game is as good as over, and Tebow Time is about to wind down. Frankly, not only am I not buying it till it actually happens, but I'm also of a mindset right now where I would not be surprised if the Broncos manage to go all the way to the Super Bowl. If there's one thing Tebow's wins, especially his overtime wins, should have taught us, you do not count Tebow and the Broncos out until they're actually out.
With that, I'm going to offer the suggestion of going onto Youtube and looking up some videos with Mike Ditka regarding Tebow. The guy manages to do a lot better job than I can summing up why people shouldn't be underestimating him.

The current cast is fantastic and this season has had a few amazing episodes. I dare you to watch the Jason Segal episode and tell me it isn't funny anymore. Now, let me say...Tebow did play a really good game against the Steelers. He did, I cannot deny that.
That being said, his story is great. He seems to be completely into his religion and follows it to a T. He isn't one of the so called "thank the Lord" guys, then next thing you know, he is in a nightclub partying with the ladies.
However, he cannot get all the credit for their success. Their Defense is what is winning these games. They keep them in the game until he can do his thing. They dominated the Steelers offensive line. And they are young, meaning they will be a force for quite a while.
Tebow is great for the city of Denver, for now. But I honestly do not think he is the long term answer at quarterback. This was by far his best game as a pro and he was only 10 of 21. They took advantage of the Steelers loading the box and hit them with the long ball.
I am not saying the Broncos do not have a chance this week. The Pats have a horrible defense. And being an Ohio State fan, I hate anything Michigan...including Tom Brady. But if the Broncos win, it will be because of the defense stopping Brady. Not Tebow beating the Pats D.

My only problem with SNL is that they quit being funny back in the 90's.
Up until the 2000's, SNL was in such a condition with not only the cast members that would go on to become movie stars, but even their writers like Conan O'brien, Greg Daniel, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman, Dave Attell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, & Adam McKay (different times) would go on to become big. And there's still no one like Jack Handey writing the sketches like he had.
But just like then, the current cast is made up of actors with different comedic backgrounds.
Andy Samberg is notable for his funny songs (like Adam Sandler used to be), most notably "I'm On a Boat," "I Just Had Sex," and "Dick In a Box."
Jason Sudeikis has made it to co-starring in silver screen comedies like Horrible Bosses and Hall Pass. He's their go-to political actor.
Kristen Wiig has gone on to be nominated several times for her role in Bridesmaids. Her attention-seeking Penelope (http://www.hulu.com/watch/107509/saturday-night-live-penelope) character is over-the-top.
Bill Hader is the modern-day Phil Hartman, meaning he is a man of MANY roles and voices, my personal favorite being Stefon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgUmUx5vA_I).
Fred Armisen & Bobby Moynihan are also two cast members I enjoy on the show and have seen some success in smaller roles on the silver screen. Bobby's best character is Anthony Crispino (http://www.hulu.com/watch/143253/saturday-night-live-update-angelo-crispino-with-second-hand-news), the second-hand news correspondent.
Unlike the old days, two former child actors, Kenan Thompson and feature player Taran Killam , are part of the cast, and both bring their past experience in a good way.

The defense for sure is dominating, but it's the coaches who deserve the most credit. They've had to take a product that needs a lot of work and retro-fit it. The offensive line has had to learn a whole new set of schemes to put Tebow into a position where he can make the plays.
That last play against the Steelers was a perfect example. They had run on 1st down in that game 21 of 22 times. The Steelers played run and Ike Taylor made a bad read and missed the tackle. Game over man, game over.
John Fox should be Coach of the Year, because without him, Tebow is a bench warmer, who at best who can run the Wildcat. With him (John Fox), Tebow's a halfway decent QB on a team with an awesome defense and a good running game.
Oh and for the record, Tebow was only the second best QB to play at UF. Too bad the guy who was better never got into an NFL system that would make use of his talents.
The Tebow thing amuses me. I mean people taking sides and "Tebow Time". Tebow is doing nothing really different than what a scrambling QB does. The coaches and the defense makes it so that he can actually succeed at his strengths. For whatever reason, Pittsburgh wanted to take away his running but failed to recognize his next best play is his deep ball. The Steelers made themselves susceptible to the Play-Action, why wouldn't the Broncos exploit that? It's really that simple to me.

Coaches deserve a lot of credit for switching to a system that would fully compliment Tebow, that's something just about unheard of.
The offensive line benefits because its a lot easier to run block than pass block. Defense benefits because run oriented offense burns a lot more clock than pass oriented defense.
John Fox should be Coach of the Year, because without him, Tebow is a bench warmer, who at best who can run the Wildcat. With him (John Fox), Tebow's a halfway decent QB on a team with an awesome defense and a good running game.

Jim Harbaugh is gonna be a top choice for Coach of the Year with the San Francisco 49ers as well. Team goes from 7-9 or 6-10 out of the playoffs from one year to 13-3 and # 2 Seed in the NFC the next. Broncos did go from 1-4 to 8-8 but I believe they vote before the post season starts and the upset of the Steelers won't factor in. Losing the last 3 games and having the dubious distinction of being an 8-8 team that "backed in" might not vote well.
Who is the best QB from Florida ?
The Tebow thing amuses me. I mean people taking sides and "Tebow Time". Tebow is doing nothing really different than what a scrambling QB does. The coaches and the defense makes it so that he can actually succeed at his strengths.
There is a subtle difference though, scrambling QBs don't usually run the option and be nearly as good a runner as the guy he can pitch it back too. That makes it a full 11 on 11 instead of the 10 on 11, and this QB can break DB tackles pretty consistently.

John Fox should be Coach of the Year, because without him, Tebow is a bench warmer, who at best who can run the Wildcat. With him (John Fox), Tebow's a halfway decent QB on a team with an awesome defense and a good running game.
Fox should be runner-up to Harbaugh. What he did to the 49ers is mind-boggling.

Tebow had more yards and more TDs in less games... Pretty sure Tebow > Wuerffel...
There is a subtle difference though, scrambling QBs don't usually run the option and be nearly as good a runner as the guy he can pitch it back too. That makes it a full 11 on 11 instead of the 10 on 11, and this QB can break DB tackles pretty consistently.
That's because the option doesn't really work in the NFL. It's a gimmick for the most part. If Tebow wins the Super Bowl with that then yeah we might be talking about this being a significant shift, but until then, it's a gimmick like the Run and Shoot from the 80s. Or the Wildcat 2 years ago.
Ask Culpepper how that worked out for him, or McNabb. Being a QB that can break tackles is great your first year or two. After that, the hits go up and your mobility goes down. This reminds me of Vick his first few years in the league. People were amazed at his athleticism. Vick was otherworldly at making people miss him, but eventually people will catch up to you and you are in the least padded position in football relative to the hits you take. (WR and K/P are probably less padded, but take way less hits.)
If Tebow is a NFL-championship caliber QB in a few years with this style, I will be utterly amazed. An exception will be made if the Broncos form a defense worthy of 85 Bears/90 Giants/00 Ravens. The QB for those style teams just have to not lose the game for you, which I think Tebow is capable of
The closest I can think of QB wise to that was Steve McNair and that was early in his career.

Wuerffel had more passing yards (1500) and many more passing TDs (26) than Tebow. Plus Wuerffel graduated from my wife's alma mater ;)
Wuerffel was much > Tebow

Did I guess correctly then? Still wish my alma mater's QB, Jake Plummer, had taken the Heisman that year but, ah well. Sun Devils will return to the Rose Bowl... in 2087!

You did guess correctly. And by Alma Mater, I meant her High School (Fort Walton Beach) and not college.
I had tried to pick him up in a fantasy league but thugit beat me to adding him.
It was destiny, my friend.

Hey, my hats off to Brady and Co. There's a reason they were expected to win and they showed it.
Am I still proud of my team? Absolutely. Would I have liked it to not be such a drubbing so that the whole "Tebow can't play" nonsense wouldn't start back up? Yeah. But, well, next season I expect the Broncos to be a threat and will continue to back them (30+ years doesn't change because of a few bad games :) ).
My biggest disappointment was seeing Von Miller get in to that fight. Miller's usually a cool headed and classy guy - downright shy in early interviews - so this was so...atypical. It actually broke my heart more than the expected loss.

I think it was the frustration at the Brady punt that got Von Miller to lose it. it was a play no one on the Broncos expected and not that it was a slap in the face, but it kind of was the exclamation mark on the W.
Brady is well, Brady. I wish he were on my team, then maybe we'd actually have made the playoffs. One thing can be said about this game, Don't give Belichik two weeks to come up with a game plan to beat you once he's seen you during the season.

I would love that, though I'm still a mark for Rodgers. I actually think any matchup we get from here on out in the Super Bowl will at least be entertaining and an interesting story line to boot.
Packers vs Pats you get the New Elite vs the old guard
Packers vs Ravens Will be Defense vs Offense and can Flacco beat the Elite QB
Giants vs Pats the Rematch
Giants vs Ravens another Rematch
49ers vs Ravens Brotherbowl 3
49ers vs Pats ...uh East Coast West Coast? dunno. Who has the sparklier helmet? Just would be a good game.
The Texans would just sully it, I guess if they make it it could be Cinderella story which is always a good tale 3rd String rookie QB to lead a franchise that has sucked since their inception against all odds to the promised land. That could work, although I couldn't root for them because of my ties to Indy.
