Since the end of the Age of Apocylipse storyline, which I thought was the most creative Gimmick-based Publishing coup in years; I lost interest in X-men. There were so many titles every month, and none of them really lived up to my expectations. After more than two decades of X-men Collecting (for awhile I bought two of each issue so as to have a pristine copy....I have a Glut of X-men #1 with all the covers, and am a proud owner of an original Uncanny X-men #1) .....I stopped collecting X-titles. Gone were the misfit heroes of my youth. Dead and buried, my Favorite Comic, New Mutants, had been abused, cancelled, Raped, then...... Then it happened.

What saved me From this X-Less Life? It was Mike Alred. I love Mike's stuff, and have been a fan of his for years, so when he took over X-force, I didn't hesitate. He redeemed X-Force. And thanks from counciling I received Right here at HCrealms, I was able to take that next big step, and start reading New X-Men

Now I'm back. And so are the X-Men. Alred & Co. Treat us to the X-men of today. How a team like this would play out in our media saturated enviroment.......& Morrison & Co Bring us right back to the Original story. The story that has been told since the sixties, but got very little "screen-time" Its the best of The 80's Uncanny title and the New Mutants (before the dark times before...Birdboy and Gossamer<shudder>)

So to others like me.... Join us back in the Hardcore Core corps!

anyone care to discuss the rebirth of the X-continuity? Or just content to scan my gushing endorsement?

I never even made it to AoA. And I haven't been back to the X-books . I occasionally see threads that mention stuff going on, but I tend to be totally lost. In my world Colossus was never on the bad side and White Queen was never on the good side. I've pretty much chalked it up to a "comic that I used to read" and I've left it at that.

I like you was (And am now again) an X-men fan. I have Uncanny 138-present but stopped reading about the time Phalanx came on. Boooring.

I have since started reading again. I like New X-men a lot even though I'm not a fan of the new beast. I scoffed at Ultimate X-men and was determined to stay 'old school' but after reading the Ultimate War I started grabbing Ultimate X-men and I love it.

Having read The Ultimates I may try picking up some Ultimate X-men. I like the tight feel to the Ultimate universe (although i doubt I'll ever read an Ultimate Spiderman or Daredevil or whatnot). I started with my father's Uncanny #1 but I lost it somewhere in the early 1990s. I used to really like X-Factor and the New Mutants. The switch to X-Force seemed to be a bit of a death knell to me (plus the addition of the apparently canny X-men title).

When I saw the current beast in "The End" #1 I was horrified. I'm actually glad that the X mansion got blown up in the first issue, if only to keep me from seeing what they've done to my childhood friends. I remember seeing posts where people complained that Beast didn't look right in the figure. Having seen the current Beast I realize that kids today are probably experiencing the same disappointment in that version of Beast that I get when I see the Deathbird or Taskmaster in Xplosion. I was happy that we got a semi old school Cyclops in the IC unique. But the Shadowcat figure makes me think I won't see many more costume changes like that considering that they sculpted her with Lockheed and then just left him off for the R/E/V figure. But I've sort of rambled here.

So was the Ultimate War series good? How about just Ultimate X-men itself? The Ultimates shook up the Avengers from when they started, but honestly there are so many mutants and changes that I'm curious about how they started Ultimate X-men.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the new look for Beast is great. And as long as Frank Quitely is doing art for New X-men, I'm there.

I also think its great. It, like other things in New X-Men is a re-capitulation of stories alread told in the modern age, re-hashed so they can be examined more carefully by conscientious Writers. When Milligan is at the helm, Beast looks great. Some of their fill in artists arn't so hot, but the story still carries. He's learning to play the drums guys. read it before you hate it.

..and he "came out" .. lol. Well sorta. haha.

New X-men is really good. What about Uncanny? I dig the anime look but everyone else I talk to hates it.

Read Ultimate War.. its superb. SUPERB.

Can't wait to read the fourth TPB. Its fun collecting at different rates. I get some things monthly, sometimes, like US War Machine, weekly, but Semi- Monthly is cool too, where you hold out for a little while then grab a big fat TPB.

I'm loving the New X-Men. This is so nice the way they're resurrecting all our favs from the past! So neato to see Unis the Untouchable in the ruins of Genoshia! You know with a setup like this, they'll have to bring Magneto back at some point...just how & when..... The Pheonix ! whoooo! that's what I say!
