View Full Version : Let's fix this lame

Dear Wizkids, this game has gotten a little out of hand with the people whining about the game. I mean come on the multiple posts over and over and OVER again involving how the game should be changed at great cost and expense to you, the people who created the game. I mean, who ever heard of life being fair. Their parents must have lied to them.
All of the problems I've mentioned have caused many people headaches, while other people take advantage of these rules to manipulate the HCRealms forum into a place where they can gain attention and constantly spam us with their rules changes for every time they lose.
I have some suggestions for rule changes which could return some of the strategy and lost fun back to the forum.
1> Perplex - get rid of it. Don't get me wrong, the people who actually know how to play the game love it, but the Poster Children for Planned Parenthood are keeping me up at night with their crying.
2> Outwit - don't let it affect Juggernaut. I can't break wind without knocking over a 16 page thread about how a 36 point figure can poke Juggy in the eyes and take away his defensive powers. We're better off without it.
3> The cheesyness of the Taxi. Get rid of all flyers. There are more panties in a knot around here than in a defective dryer at a women's correctional facility. Granted this is centered all around ONE figure, Firelord, but my Band-Aid budget for all the bleeding hearts around here really is starting out outstrip my Hero-Clix budget.
3a> Running shot and Charge. Get rid of movement entirely. Let's just have the figures set up at opposite ends of the board and stare at each other.
4> RCE. Who needs it. Have all figures with this ability instead debate who was better, Picard or Kirk.
5> Incapacitiate - Combine this ability with what RCE is now. Have it add 2 to the damage of the person using it while adding two push tokens. Any figure with this ability should have their cost reduced by 20 points. Oh yeah. I can hear some people creaming themselves already.
6> Leadership - Since no figures will actually be moving across the board, just get rid of this power too.
7> Lame team abilities - Get rid of them. We'll just glue M&M's to the figure bases so the different color factions can war against each other like the Crips and the Bloods.
8> Stealth - Make it so anyone with stealth can be hit with a ranged combat acion if they are in hindering terrain. No no no, I KNOW we could just got base to base with them and do a hand to hand attack, but that's to hard. This is the generation of instant gratification and I dropped out of high school so I wouldn't have to think. Plus the gym teacher used to dress me up in a pink leotard and sit on the principle's lap.
9> Any powers I haven't touched upon, get rid of those too. Let's just have a whitebread collectable figure game. And make all Uniques as common as bananas. I shouldn't have to pay for anything, so give the figures away.
if you do this, I'm sure the forums will quiet down, and I'll be able to get some sleep around here.

And everyone who is tired of the same old same old, let your voice be heard. Luckily, our attitude puts us in the majority and on the winning side, the side that says the game rocks as it is. So no matter how ticked you get at these whining threads, take comfort in knowing they can't really do anything.

In order for a more peaceful solution to the one posed by the american govern... er.. I mean Brazil, I propose we Ban heroclix altogether, start a huge bonfire in.. um... kansas, throw all of our clix on there and become devout southern baptists.
And then we can weed out the whiners with ritualistic reenactments of the crucifixtion.
darius_dax1
04/03/2003, 16:09
I have an idea:
Make your own clix.
Just supply us with the cool looking miniatures on blank dials, a box of crayons, and a blank rule book. We all obviously know how to create a better game than you do. We would use the crayons to color the dials, make sure it is at least a 64 count box with all the different colors because we need a color for each type of power from the comics. Some of the powers I am talking about are: ice blast, water blast, wind blast, fire blast, dirt blast, red blast, blue blast, energy blast, lightning blast, and all the other blasts ever concieved because we shouldn't generalize what the comics say.

i defintely agree. the game is the #### as is. screw changing it. the one thing i do complain about tho, is that i think wizkids should go in to a lot more detail with their rules. there are way too many gray areas (hence the rivers of blood and tears flowing forth from the forums everywhere). i think if they fix this one problem, it would help a lot of the problems.
live on, fellow heroclix brethren.
shin-goji
04/03/2003, 16:17
I don't know which I hate worse:
1. Players who think they are the shiznick because they have an unbeatable Firelord team.
2. People who want to change the entire game just to depower Firelord.
3. People who want to change the whole game because their favorite hero isn't as powerful as Firelord.
i've been tired of it for quite some time though i haven't posted much in that past couple months.
I can't find a decent tourney in my area without some #### house rules thrown in to shut these people up. I just don't bother to post too much since the forum Nazis are so far up wizkids rearend they delete the post just in case wizkids don't like it.
This is not a fan site and has not been for some time, its just an extension of wizkids.
k0rnkid15
04/03/2003, 16:20
those people that quit the game cuz one figure they like is 'broken' is pretty stupid too.
shin,
i like the post, but really, even if you don't agree, the discussion about these things is vital. look at mageknight; it just got changed due to fan input.

I do agree that debating is vital. I will defend to the death anyone's right to say anything, even if I don't agree with it. But I do get irritated by blatant ignorance and failure to concede even the smallest point on a well thought out discussion.

My biggest problem is my group doesn't have any problems with it the way it is. There are clarifications that could be made and house rules are always fun if well thought out. But thereis no reason to drastically change the game like Argentina is trying to do.

We're not trying to stop the discussion. Just making light of some people's stubbornness. The post that this post is a parody of (Let's fix this game) is still going strong.
and I think it's quite valuable for someone to know how their "fan input" will be reacted to by other fans . . .

"There are more panties in a knot around here than in a defective dryer at a women's correctional facility."
Good one Shin...very descriptive.
I think more people should do what my friend and I do, which is just change the rules if you want. I mean it's just a game(a cool expensive game, but a game none the less) and if you don't agree w/ the rules or don't think it's like that in a comic just change it.

Shin-goji,
Your cease to amaze me. Where do you come up with this stuff?
I have one point I would like to make. The "pro-rules change" group keeps taking about making the game fair for everyone. How exactly do they know what my definition of fair is? They simply assume "their" definition of fair and equal is what everyone should think. Brazil never asked me, or the rest of you that ever. He keeps mentioning profound statments like "How would making the playing field level and fair be a bad thing?". Well, it may not be a bad thing, but torunament players will still play the same "tournament pieces" regardless if outwit, perplex, Firelord, and taxis are over-hauled as Brazil would like. The "power gamer" will still be on top because he can adapt to the changes as fast as they are made. That is the cold hard truth that Brazil is not understanding. He wants to stop the "power gamer" from causing havoc at the tournaments he attends. It is just not possible to do so in my opinion. Once you begin crippling players with newer rules or changes a ripple effect begins to happen. Now since you changed that first rule, someone will get mad and demand another rules change for getting the shaft. So, you make an adjustment for that group, which in turn causes another group of players distress. I think you guys understand where this leads us, too. He wants to see things done his way because he feels he knows how to do this better than we do, or Wizkids. That is just typical liberal thinking right there. I support everyones right to speak their mind anyplace, anytime, and to anyone. But I also support the right that each of use have to tell said person to shut-up and quite whining so much. Brazil needs to understand that the sqeaky wheel does not always get the grease!
P.S. Shin-goji, I am still irritated with "The Shield" thread you started. Blast you to hell, I say, Blast you to hell!

Oh absolutely. You can hate any figure you want. I actually hate Batman worse than Firelord. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna call for a complete overhaul of him.
He forgot to mention that Spiderman should be made invincible and that having him on your team makes you win.

personally there is nothing wrong with a charater that can be killed by thug. That's right ladies and gentleman, on conartists click's of peplex she can be ko'd by a thug... he doesn't even have to be an evil thug. In fact with one well timed punch, I'm sure I could knock out a hooker... though there would be much more entertaining things I would rather do with said "con-artist" I just can't wait for them to release the panther posse, or whoever they use as cheap outwitter, that'll make everybody freak.
Think of this, if firelord had been given a shiny red metal suit and been called "Iron man" with a few minor changes, nobody would complain. People aren't complaining about a certain figure ruling the game, they're complaining cuz they don't know the fig. We're this any other figure people would say "what can I say he's Iron Man" or whoever.
And on the other hand if black panther had never been made, (personally I think it's hard to represent him on a dial.) we'd have even less complaints.
Complain sure, i have mine, they have theirs but 16 pages?

I love Heroclix. Its probably my favorite game ever. I want it to stay around forever.
Lets take Magic the Gathering. Still around and going strong. They set up Tournment rules and I rarely ever heard anyone complain about them. When something was too powerful (IE. EVERYONE played it at tourneys) we just figured it would be banned or restricted at some point and we were happy.
darius_dax1
04/03/2003, 17:42
I am not for banning or changing the rules. It changed MTG for me. I quit because There was no constant that I could rely on when entering a tournament. Cards would be banned or rules changed after I made and tested my deck and before the tournament started. I would go into a tournament with a now illegal deck or out-dated strategy because of the change.
I don't want the same to happen to heroclix.
all i'm looking for is a defined set of rules that would be used for tournament play.i don't care how timmy and his buddies on his block play, i'm a competative player and i want to be able to walk into any tourney knowing that the rules there are the same for tournament players everywhere else. I shouldn't have to do reasearch to find out what half baked house rules every store has in effect.
one sentance added to the rules faq would make this fighting stop.
All SANCTIONED tournaments must use standard rules.
then a third of my collection would not be useless, since they are duplicates. otherwise i want wizkids to start putting figures in clear blisters so i don't get duplicates that i can't use.

I like the way you intelligently stated your case, and how you see that all these wanna be rules lawyers are going to mess up the game. Good work Shin, keep it up. I also liked the little jokes you made.
Now one thing I want to ask all the rules lawyers. Why the HE double hockey sticks is Firelord broken?? Let's see...he was once an ordinary man..hence the low value...then one day...this enormous creature comes along, and hey, gives him these INCREDIBLE powers...hence his strength. Resistance is futile... Locutis of Borg is superior.
Speaking of the Borg, that's who the whiners remind me of. Not one of them have an original thought, but just like the Borg, they ALL have that same thought.
"We are the Borg. Firelord is borken."
"Brave words. I've heard them before, from thousands of species across thousands of worlds, since long before you were created. But, now they are all Borg. Outwit is underpriced."
"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. RCE and Running Shot should work together."
"Human! We used to be exactly like them. Flawed. Weak. Organic. But we evolved to include the synthetic. Now we use both to attain perfection. Your goal should be the same as ours. Juggernaut should rule."
Then our hero, shin-goji, steps in... "They invade our space and we fall back, They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. The line must be drawn here, this far, no farther. And I will make them pay for what they've done!"

In all seriousness tho.. Sometimes, a person who is totally content with the game will get an idea that might improve the game. I have a friend who had an idea about how the sentenels use energy explosion. He emailed magister about it and in a few weeks, the FAQ was revised. What im saying is that: Not every proposed rule change should be laughed at or made fun of. Often times, people want to totally destroy the game and reinvent it, but a few times, people have reasonable ideas that are worth discussing.
Has there ever been a better place to discuss rule changes?
:) I think theres a little bit of a mob mentality now and that anyone who has a suggestion for a rules change, be it reasonable or not, will be generalized and made fun of.

I was drunk at the time, so I think my EXACT words were, "I swear to God, if you don't leave the game alone I'll beat you like chicken battter, you vacuous, toffe nosed pervert!"
I think that WizKids manufactured these rules whiners when they failed to properly playtest their game and write a comprehensive rule book. It just left the players thinking that WizKids obviously didn't know what they were doing ... I myself thought the same thing when my friend and I each got our first IC starter and were trying to figure out how to play. Now we have a 20 or so page FAQ that can almost answer every question I had that first night.
It's pretty obvious that they didn't playtest IC very well. Certain figures just suck for their points and others are unbelieveable. They also didn't take into account how much taxis and medics would affect the game. With proper playtesting they could have created a comprehensive rule book that wouldn't have left beginners flipping pages madly for answers that aren't there.
I think WizKids has rolled well with the punches and each set seems to get a little more balanced and actually gives you the idea that some playtesting was involved. The FAQ is turning into what the original rule book should have been and I think people can now logically answer a lot of rules questions that come up that aren't specifically covered.
I think the rules whiners don't see how things are improving and still have the idea that WizKids really didn't think everything through before making the game. Back in IC and maybe even HT I would agree with them. I didn't have very much faith in WizKids to provide a complete set of rules and characters that were balanced. IC has Firelord and Black Panther while HT has endless supplies of Outwit. It's these sets that make people think that they could have done a better job.
Sure there have been some pretty aweful representation of comics figures as HeroClix in CT and XP but in general the sets are getting better and the rules are getting much more clear and defined.
Jeez, I've blabbered on for way longer than intended. I got some laughs out of your first post shin ... keep up the satire, it keeps us all honest.

The worst thing would be to have a simple game become to legalistic. So far, its been great! Web sites like this that provide forums and judgements on rulings are great! But the game isn't mean't to be so serious that we need to take a college course to play it. When in doubt, try to make a ruling thats fair and in the feel of the game and be consistent and open about it, and go on with the game.

I mean think about it, you are playing a game and you have a disagreement... you just bust out your handy super-portable 4 inch thick rule book and say HAHA take a look at page 25487 #####!!!!

I mentioned un-evolved players in my first post and just want to elaborate on that for a moment.
If you notice MOST of the people whining about the rules are new players. When I first started playing I thought some of the same ways as they do but as I became more familiar with the rules and strategies I found the game much more fun and challenging. If you tell them to stop complaining and learn to deal with the "broken" piece of the week, they get all defensive. As most people on this thread have been playing for sometime you know what I mean.
NO FIG OR RULE IS "BROKEN". They (the whining bunch) just need to become better players.
darius_dax1
04/04/2003, 10:16
When that idea is advanced, they get defensive and say things like, "I never said I wasn't a good player. I like win totally 110% of the games I play (with my rules changes). I bring home 10 LEs a tournament cause I always place in the top 3."
There is just no talking to some of these people.

I can't wait for the "Advanced HeroClix" (AHC) version that is sure to come out. Then, I'll be able to play a half-orc barbarian! Rock!

So anyway, wheres that nest great thread of shins? been gone a bit
and WHY dear lord, does ANYTHING have to be labeled broken?
walksthestorm

Oh no, it's dropped to #7 already!!! But I disagree with a previous post aout "how can anything be broken?" It's very easy for something to get broken. All it takes is a lot of like minded people trying something out, one person proving to have superior thoughts on it and come up with ways to get more out of it than another person, and then it is considered broken. Dang, I break a lot of things like that.

Only broken figs I've ever had...I sent back to WizKids, and they replaced them for a non-broken one. Dang Mad Hatter without an arm..*grumbles*

A figure is only "borken" because a player uses the wrong "stragedy".

Strategy?
What's that?
I only know how to play a basic game and I am ALWAYS getting KO'ed by Firelord, Black Panther, Wasp, Batman, and Con-artist because they are all broken and should be fixed.
WHAT????
You mean that if I evolve as a player I can actually beat a team like that?:surprised
How can this be???:cheeky:

And miss out on juvenile whining of the future? ... that may be a good idea. But I'll just ignore the thread physically.
Physically... people still do things on their own without a computer? This is tough... must... not... click on... thread...
I believe what we have here is a lack of strateegerizing. With the proper stragedy one can do just about anything.
I would like to add:
"eliminate any numerical values" to the list of things to fix.
My group just takes the figures one at a time and smashes them into one another.
Whoever makes the best sound effect gets the other guy's figure. Jugger-not wins all the time.

I'd do that, but I'd feel like I've given up. Sort of like that homeless guy on the street corner selling bootleg Hero-Clix. you just can't give up on a guy like that.

Can you imagine what people will be whining about 10 years after Hero-Clix is out? I would imagine it would be like looking at the Magic the Huddling message boards now ;)
I like this thread much better than lets "fix" this game...
Those guys all still play the game, and it hasn't changed, so after a while, the bellyaching gets old.

I still think it speaks volumes that what we have NOT seen is hordes of invading Visigoths storming the Roman legions of Hero-Clix with armies of Sentinels, Con Artists and Blizards. I haven't seen anything close to this combo yet and the expansion has been out for weeks.
