View Full Version : A couple more ideas

Dear Icarus,

After a match this morning and a few last week, I've been thinking. Here are some other ways to improve the interface.

1. When creating a Match, the option to include a "Match Type."
This would give a player the option to designate a match as one of several types.
Standard: Match is normal, normal rules apply.
League: Please only join this match if it is for a League game
Friendly: This match does not count against your W/L record, it's for trying out new teams.

2. Pre-Match chat page.
This might actually be made needless by the above suggestion. Currently when you join a match, you are taken directly to the "reveal force, roll for initiative" page. Adding a page between those steps would let you discuss with your opponent what the match is going to be. For instance, if someone just wants to play a 400 point game, but someone wants to play a League Match, this pre-launch page would let them both confirm that and then decided whether to proceed or not.

3. Blameless Forfeits.
Again, this would be covered if a "Friendly" match type was introduced. I was playing last week against a guy who was getting ready for the HCO League, back before the point cap was removed. He had a 226 point Thor on his team. When I advised him of that, he suggested we both dump out and try again. This is fine, except one of us takes a loss. If there was either a mechanic for both people to agree to dropping the match and not have it counted, that would be an improvement.

Thanks for listening!

I think that #1 is a great idea. I know Icarus looks at this forum every now and then, but I would suggest you also post this on the Official HCO forums.

Dear Icarus,

Standard & Friendly are essentially the same, the only differnece being that one would count against your W/L record and one would not? Seeing as how nobody sees your W/L record but you, it seems kind of pointless. The only thing that really matters is your tournament rating and that is only affected by playing in HCO toournaments (currently HoT & IC sealed and DC & Marvel swiss).

2. Pre-Match chat page.
This might actually be made needless by the above suggestion. Currently when you join a match, you are taken directly to the "reveal force, roll for initiative" page. Adding a page between those steps would let you discuss with your opponent what the match is going to be. This is already there. When you create a match, the entire right side of that "select your build" screen is that match chat. The trick is simply that you can't select and ready a team when you create the game. If you create a game, select a team, and submit that team, the game will start as soon as your opponent selects his team. So simply create the game but don't select your team. You can then chat with your opponent even if he selects and readies his team.

3. Blameless Forfeits.
Again, this would be covered if a "Friendly" match type was introduced. I was playing last week against a guy who was getting ready for the HCO League, back before the point cap was removed. If there was either a mechanic for both people to agree to dropping the match and not have it counted, that would be an improvement.

Again, as nobody ever sees your record and it doesn't count for anything, this is completely pointless.

I'm not trying to tear down your ideas. I just think there are better things, like actual bug fixes and performance enhancements, that Icarus could and should be working on.

Icarus has stated a few times that they want to be able to display w/l ratios in the future. I think these are great suggestions that could be implemented now, in preparation for that eventuality. Even better if the white clouds lobby error gets resolved first so we have even less losses count against us for force closing the client.

A perfect example of things that should be worked on first! :)

Is it possible to add a "League" option when creating a game? I've been "ninja'd" a few times by players who aren't signed up for HCOL, despite setting up games publically (via Chat).

A method of setting up matches via IM (like Trades) would be nice.
