View Full Version : What can we do to make the site better?
Hey guys,
As the subject says I'm looking for opinions, suggestions, etc on what we can do to make this site a better place to spend your online HeroClix time.
Please don't worry about getting us upset by voicing your opinin, consider this a impromptu poll and let us know what you feel we can do better.
We know certain probelms are still out there, a few issues with myrealms and some items missing from the collection tracker, those are noted and will hopefully be fixed. What I'm more curious about is general Realms usage, the boards, other features, features you would like to see, things you would like to see different, etc.
Let me state that this post doesn't mean we will rush out and implement every suggestion, right now we're just gathering some information to help not only this Realms but all of our Realms sites.
Thanks guys!

one small thing id like is under the unit section a way to just search dc or marvel so i dont have to always get results back for both sets. Thats about all i can think of for now.
I'm assuming you mean merchandise, figures, etc? Sadly thats one thing we cannot do. Us mods work for free so if we don't get free stuff then you don't get free stuff :)

I want a random team generator, based on your collection and needed point value. I don't know if this makes things "better" though. I'm just curious.
As far as improvments, how about having the Mods taking a more active role in structuring conversations. Not just Mods, either, but just people with intelligent conversation abilities. So much #### is getting posted here, I'd like to see a more orderly discussion, devoid of random insults.

You mean Brazil's "Let's Fix this game!" thread?
I would like to see a seperate forum where these arguements can be addressed. And not the "Dear WizKids..." forum. A new forum where these guys that have a problem with HC rules, abilities, etc. can let off steam.

For the most part, I'd just like the corrections to the unit search and collection tracker to be fixed. Unit search is the single most useful aspect of this board. arsuf476 has the same idea I do, regarding a "universe specific" search. That would make team building for tournaments better.
Redherring,
Great point, unfortunetly that thread had slipped past my attention until very recently. Before this past week we only had a few moderators to handle a huge user base. Roughly 1 Moderator per 2,000 registered users.
Now we have two new ones signed up and we're working on getting things back on track.
I've checked that thread and I'm trying to decide what to do with it, the discussion isn't bad but it did get a bit carried away.
One thing I've heard complaints about that bothers me is that a lot of threads turn into spam fests, arguments, etc. Sadly I don't have the time to read every thread, I'm hoping with new moderators we can cut down on this sort of thing but if you see a thread going downhill please report it to us.
Consider the Unit Search/MyRealms/Advanced Search done! It's at the top of my list for this weekend, and I will get those resolved immediatly. We have some other really cool add ons coming as well. We do want to hear your suggestions for what else we can do better, so keep posting away!

I have to chime in for the limit search by universe bit, but I'd take it a step further. I'd like to see restricting results by Marvel, DC and Indy (once they are out) but it would also be nice to be able to say "only Clobberin Time". Maybe a drop-down menu with All Marvel, All DC, All Indy, IC, HT, Ct, X, etc. would work?

Given the amount of trading that goes on, I would like to see some sort of Good (and Bad, unfortunately) Trader Catalog. Something where you could put someone's name in and they would show up in one of the two lists along with the name of the people who have added their names to a "yes, good trader" vote.
The current system isn't bad, but when I do a search I might get someone's thread that has vouches for them and I might get them vouching for other people.
It would be neat to see just someone's handle with a list of people who had good trades with them.

No, I didn't mean that I wanted dumb threads busted, I just meant that I'd like to see more structured conversation.

I'm not really sure how you can do this, but I think the biggest improvement would be to lighten the mood. Attitudes range from serious to downright hostile. Even the jokers tend toward hostility, and it's unfortunate, because the tension really cuts into the sense of community, and I think its scares a lot of new users off, or at least prevents a lot of them from wanting to post their questions or thoughts.
It's gotten to the point where I come to this board pretty much for news only, and to answer the occassional question, and I go over to another board to have fun and hang out. I used to get both here.
Like I said, I can't offer solutions, only observation.
New Polls are definetly needed, please give us some suggestions of what you guys would like to see for polls.
De4dp00l, thanks for your opinions, that is something that we have heard complaints about and needs to be dealt with.
We have more staff now so hopefully we can get this figured out.

First I would like to apologize for any bad or questionable posts that I contributed to in the "Let's Fix This Game" thread. I think that the discussion is good when it stays on target.
I would like to see the filters work a little better. I mean words like s####e get censored. It is just kind of silly.
Also how about a HOME button at the bottom of the thread. I keep scrolling to the top of the page so I can return to the HOME page.
And the e-mail notification system needs to be fixed. I get e-mails everytime a response is posted in a subscribed thread. Sometimes I'll open up my e-mail and have 30-40 from HCRealms.
Other than that, I really like the site. You guys do a great job!!!
Suggestions:
Reverse the recent changes in the site's look and feel
Fix the bug that stops people editing their posts.
Add the word "whine" to the bad language filter.
Promote and facilitate forum games.

What about a trade binder?
Under a section, you could have a place to list figures you have to trade and your wants. People could search the binders for people looking for certain figs, etc.

my only suggestion (more of a bug, really):
sometimes i want to search for a person's thread. for instance, before i make a trade, i look to see if they've got a good trader thread going. when i search for a username in the good trader forum, i get results from searching post content. i'd love it if thread poster usernames would be added to the search criteria - makes it easier to find my own old threads!
i know this is a little more specific than you may be looking for, but it's something that's been bugging me for a bit. keep fighting the good fight, yo...

And hey, I loved reading battle accounts, but now they're removed every 24 hours or posted to only by the authors, right?
First off - I absolutly agree with all 4 of Warden's points in his post above.
QOUTE :-
Reverse the recent changes in the site's look and feel
Fix the bug that stops people editing their posts.
Add the word "whine" to the bad language filter.
Promote and facilitate forum games.
Nice one, Andrew.
Now, a response to Druss from me...
I absolutly LOVE both the site and the game. Long may both last.
However, things that could improve my "online experiance" of Heroclix might be...
1. STOP MOVING THINGS !!! (yes, I was shouting) - I now have to run an "intelligent search" to find threads or posts which I used to find with ease. An awful lot of threads, especialy the early ones, do not fit well into catagories.
2. Consider going back, at least in part, to the softer/gentler/friendlier look of the "old" site. The new format hurts my eyes, even with my Red Shades on...and some of it is VERY hard to read in terms of font size and clarity...Warden is absolutly right.
3. In "the old days" of the site (cue sound of Zimmer frame being dragged across the floor) - in other words a year ago - before the first HC release, and for a while after it, I found the site to be friendly, somewhat anarchic, humerous and an entertaining mix of gamers and comic guys. It still is all of the above, but there are now "zogging loads and loads" (Ork expession) of threads with the same / similar themes. Perhaps someone, every 3 months or so, could update a locked post listing eg main threads on Dupes / main threads on Firelord / main review threads / Pineapple based
discussion group etc etc etc ? This might mean stuff could be added to existing arguments rather than running parallel...
4. Broadening the Moderators base was a good idea, although I've always found responses to be fast and friendly.
Perhaps there is a beggining of the pro / amataur divide/animosity (which is prevelent in some CCG's I could mention) around the site - WK comes in for quite a bit of stick on the site these days, and while the close ties between HCR and WK have become more apparant over the year, you still find a little bit of the "kick the pro gamer" / "hunt the timmy" attitudes begining to happen...the site's independance as a debating and info forum is one of the best things about it.
5. Help us all by getting info on release dates / figures expected / indy deals confirmed etc etc - so we don't waste our time arguing over "fake" Green Lantern photos and "inaccurate" Pineapples.
6. Keep supporting the fun / quiz / community threads
and the occasional "site crazes" (yes, including the play by forum Heroclix games) - for some of us, our games and comics, and, yes, this site, are an escape from a world which is not as amenable or person-friendly as our hobbies are.
7. Keep doing a first rate job.

One thing, I wouldn't mind seeing (sorry if this was mentioned, or if it seems insignificant) is rarities listed for the figures in the units section.
Also there is an advice thread for traders new to the site. Unfortuantely it was started in(or moved to) the bad trader section. This thread needs to be moved into the trade forum, for all to see. It also needs to be made stationary.
Lastly, in the myrealms section, it is difficult to post your teams in threads for others to view an advise. Is there anyway to make this easier? Sometimes you post the link, and it doesn't work correctly, or part of it disappears when you post it, and their is no way to recover it, so that it will work.

Just to add my voice to the "bring back Tipplej and his Biggest Tournament in the World" comment. That WAS a great thread.

How can we make this a better sight [not to mention planet]?
ban Brazil
i'm serious
1. Lighten it up a bit (color wise).
2. Fix the search! We need the old search functionality back. Search by user, limited to forums, etc.
3. Break out the trading forum into nons and uniques/LEs.
4. Fix the units area (searches and such).
If I think of anything else, I'll come back and edit this post.
Well.... here's another one to add! Fix the #### "edit" function! I have to post this because it won't let me edit my post!!
What I was going to change was.... on number 1...
1. Lighten it up a bit (color wise). Going back to the previous format would be great (although I realize it will never happen).

I've only been here a few weeks, and I really like the site. My only suggestion is to organize the Bad Traders Thread. It's such an important section, but it can be really hard to find people, even with the search. Plus some people have three, four, five threads all associated with their names- can those be consolidated somehow?

They are available in the User CP section above. Look for the Change Avatar button.

Now, as far as improvements go...
1) Fix the Edit button.
2) Return the Search function to the way it was.
3) Fix the Units and MyRealms sections. Nothing is more irratating that trying to make a team and the searches don't work or the figures aren't listed.
4) Along with #3, get the pictures in for Xplosion and add the set to MyRealms.
5) Always keep my posts on top... ok, that maybe a little much. ;)
I agree with all of those, Funky Jett.
Oh, and how can your posts be on top if mine are on top ???
Mind you, given the number of times mines been the last post on a thread...

Facilitate online play.
It makes no sense to have the 'premier' site as a meeting place for players to meet to go to another site to play an online game. I know that means adding a dice component and map component. Given the sheer number of poindexters visiting the site, you might be able to get some free help with this.
Look at the Muir Island Vacation thread and look at the interest as measured by hits.
If you did that, you could have a tournament each month and you might even be able to get some prize support. I for one would be willing to donate some WizKids merchandise (Sinestros or Outdoor Kits).
If you want to keep traffic and interest high, stop sending the eyeballs somewhere else to play.

Maybe you should have a seperate "complaint forum".
I think that people have the right to complain about things that they don't enjoy or like about the game. They should be able to do this without being abused, by members who feel that they are whining, or that the reason that they are complaining is because they lose to this and that.
I also think, that those who are tired of hearing about the usual things (Firelord is broken, Spidey /Superman was robbed, Dupes should/shouldn't be allowed) should steer clear of those threads. If you don't agree with someone's opinions, DON'T RESPOND TO THEIR THREADS. If you can't discuss the issues without all that other unecessary stuff, don't bother with it.
Maybe if there was a forum specifically for that, alot of the flamming discussions, name calling, insulting garbage, that these threads degenerate to,will tone down some. (See Let's Fix this Game thread, The Duplicate issue and it' place on this forum, etc)
Also, maybe once a week, the mods could post a thread, where the heated topics are discussed by the members for a week, and then close the thread for good.
Allowing people to vent and express how they feel about certain things is healthy for the community. Perhaps if the mods played an active role in keeping these discussions on topic, as well as moderating them, people will get these issues out of their system and move on.
I also think that you guys should come up with some form of disclaimer in the trade thread, that states : by posting on trades and/or sales on this forum you agree that you are doing so at your own risk. You also agree not to hold Realmworks liable for any transaction that goes wrong. Furthermore, you agree to allow memebers to post your personal information, should you not complete your side of the trade.
Or something similar to that. We NEED to know this information. There have been SEVERAL instances where posters have been banned for ripping people off (See DXHHH18),only to come back under a new username/or names (See Raging Doombot) and do so again.
Now, maybe we could refine the process to make it more formal, so that people don't post others as bad traders, as instantly as they have been as of late. Things have gotten pretty wild in the Neutral Ground. Memebers are either trigger happy or gun shy. It wasn't near this when I first started trading here. With more mebers flocking in here daily, this is bound to get worse. then what will happen, is you guys will shut that section down, and those of us that are good traders will lose a great resource.
There are some members on here, who have some great ideas, on how the trade forum should be run. I'm sure that some form of trading commitee could be formed, and these members could come up with a process that would make trading and selling/buying clix on this site safer.
4 or 5 members who have trading experience, could come up with fair guidelines by which trading should occur, and a proper way to carry out a bad trader posting.
They could be given their own thread (like the judges), to "meet" and "discuss" this, and then present it to the mods for final approval.
Let me preface by saying that these suggestions do not detract from the good/great things about this site.
I'm probably going to get banned for saying any of this, but...
1) Make it a bit easier for users to get answers. Suggestion: Expand the site's FAQ and give it its own tab up top.
(now for the banning...)
I had username luckydontlose since, like June or July 2002 when I started playing but the ID randomly wouldn't allow me to access any user priviledges including my PM list in September. After 3-5 Emails to the webmaster I did the unthinkable and borrowed an account while I hoped for a reply/solution to my problem. With no resolution even into December I decided to make a new account for myself. (**LuckyJ has been banned!) I had to give up all my trade references and start over having people "get to know" me. Hence the suggestion: Improve communication regarding account problems.
2) Given the "family friendliness" of the site's nature and targeting, I think the dark look of the site and the HCRealms banner counteract the goals of the site. (I'm a graphic/web designer/advertiser...I might be the only person who thinks this). The Wizkids site is just horrible to be on for any length of time. It's sooo dark that it's almost depressing, and the look of HCRealms is leaning more in that direction. But I do like the diversified Smilies.
3) Have weekly or monthly articles by Moderators. The Wizkids site has started doing this, but the articles are pretty weak in my opinion. HCRealms can do better (I think azs proves this). These articles could have their own forum or be fixed at the top of the first page like Herocomplex's Xplosion preview reaction pages were. You might even call the new forum the "Daily Planet" or something and have your own editorial "newspaper" within the site, allowing occasional "guest editorials" for approved articles and members. A sub-forum could be "Ask So-and-So." This would allow Moderators to have a kind of "Fireside Chat" with the members on specific topics instead of hit-or-miss posting by Moderators on random topics.
4) Have more Moderators to fulfill above task. Maybe even initiate a new site position as a "staff writer" for such a forum.
Ok, I think that's all. And now for a big compliment:
The "Another Realm" is great. It's definitely what sets this site apart from the other Heroclix sites (particularly the Wizkids forum). This site is much more of a COMMUNITY than other sited because the members are allowed to be both players AND people.
If you do decide to make an "editorial newspaper" type of forum, remember that it was my idea...:p ;) :cheeky: ;)

I'd like to see a "Home" tab on the bottom of the page when you've scrolled all the way to the bottom. That way when you've finished reading a particularly looong post you dont have to scroll all the way back up to find the "Home" tab again. It would come in very handy right now.
Add a few more pictures of figures to give the threads some color. It was great to log onto the site and be greated with some new images each week.
Somehow focus on a top ten threads (most views / most responses / something a little more bold at the bottom of the page).
Thanks for asking!

I'd like to see some contests: who can build the best team using certain figures, who can make the best home-made figure, who can create the best new super power of team ability, things of that ilk. Even if there weren't prizes, it would be fun to see what everybody to came up with.
Also, free Danishes. You can never go wrong with pastry.

Dancing monkey's would be neat.
This is a suggestion from a new member.
I went to search members in my area, Vermont, and when they came up only mine truely listed where I live.
So I posted a thread that asked where people in Vermont lived, and was informed that I had violated the usage guidelines.
I apoligize for this, and won't do it again.
My suggestion is that if regional discussions are not allowed then at least show the persons area in the members screen without having to go entry by entry to try and figure it out.
I had assumed (I know about assumptions) that if the main search screen did not list an area then it was not listed in the profiles.

I would like to see changes with the online play. Maybe you should try and host the Heroix website so those of us here at Realms won't have far to go to play a game. That is of course assuming that the heroix website wasn't taken down at the request of Wizkids.

The chat rooms are almost always empty every time I check. When I did happen in to find other people we had a 3 hour + session. We were all really irritated when the Blue Bots came on and had the lil smart-assed messages when ever someone entered or left. It was a minor bother and not even close to being funny. I also tried to type in Hell (as a place where the demonic characters were) and it made me retype the message. Im sorry, but there are char4actrs who live in Hell. Not Hades or the underworld. I know that you want to censor some of the language to keep the chats all ages friendly, but I figure that once a word is used on television and/or becomes part of the pop culture mainstream then it kinda loses it's curse ability. It wsa kind of sunny that at one time we were even in number wth the Blue Bots. It was like we had our own personal Censures or PC body guards.
Other then that everything is pretty cool. It would be nice to hav a plac on you user info to put a picture or something to see who were chatting with or posting to.

Hi gents,
I don't come back over here very often any more, for a couple of reasons:
First off, the very friendly, helpful attitude of the majority of posters that I found here when I first started posting last year has gone, for the most part. There are still good guys around, but they seem to be vastly outnumbered by the sarcastic, flame throwing, garbage spouting (insert your favortite cuss word here)'s. I don't really know how you could fix this, other than handing out warnings more than you do. I don't really think you've got the moderator (man)power or inclination to do this, so it's kind of a complaint that'll stay. But generally speaking, like de4dp00l said, the attitude of the site is a lot less friendly and fun than it used to be. I'd rather hang out at the other place.
Secondly, the new format is terrible on the eyes. Honestly. It hurts. You should change again, either back to what you had before, or to something that'll cause less eyestrain.
As a last comment, I'll add my request to the others that you allow tipplej and sunnyd's tournament threads to go again, with audience participation. They "Don't add anything to the community" was what I heard Typhon said about those threads. I just don't buy it. A lot of people enjoyed them. Fogs has moved his tournaments to CM, but the other guys haven't, yet. The tournaments should be allowed to come back, the way they were.
1) I'd like to see the Combat Formations folder removed. Its contents should be moved to the Strategy & Team Building forum.
2) Then rename the Strategy & Team Building forum to Combat Formations: Rate & Review since there is already a strategy folder.
3) Then add a Mixed folder to the that forum so I can skip past the Marvel/DC combo teams.
4) Oh, and remove the Final Releases folder as it doesn't seem to be distinct from the other team building folders.

I love the site and it has been a huge help in getting information and resources for the game. I do find it difficult to read the boards systematically since they continually re-sort themselves according to the most recent posting, and this also tends to push repetitive threads to the top over and over. I think a tree structure where the original posts are sorted by posting date, maybe with an icon to show there are new responses in the last 24 hours, would be easier to access. Thanks.

The nature of the hobby is that News Headlines will appear infrequently -- even when we're ramping up for a new release, you're only seeing two or three news stories on the home page a week.
They are nice and all, but after a few visits on the same day (or even the same week) they get old.
Meanwhile, there are usually several new discussions a day. Moving them to the top of the page (perhaps under the user log-in?) would put more up-to-date information on the first page that people see.
It'd also be a boon for folks like me, who get a little tired of scrolling to the bottom of the home page just to see the latest topics.

Just an update, this is still being worked on. Some of the changes are taking a bit more then I thought. I have guests in this weekend, but I will continue to get those changes in over the next week. Sorry for the delay!

The colors on MYREALMS are almost impossible to read. Not to mention, my husband is color blind and he is unable to enter his clix. Please be sure to fix this issue quickly as it impares people to use this site.

Just the fact that your honestly asking accounts for a good RABBIDGERBAL THUMBS UP!
It's good to see a general section, after all there is stuff that is both dc and marvel related.
The Rabbidgerbal suggests doing some type of contests that would benifit all the gamers in the end like on MK realms your senario competitions, it's fun for the clans and all the people benifit from getting a load of fun senarios to play.
Perhaps a house rules comp? (homegrown alternative rules that make a new game out of your old figures! like the sea ideas of mkrealms posters.)
Best tips (people might have simple tips that not everyone knows about like using tackle boxes to carry figures)
As Mr. Grace says from *ARE YOU BEING SERVED*....

It might be nice to have a sort of FAQ (similar to, but not as complex as, the wizkids one). There has to be at least one new thread per day asking if you can perplex someone who is using RCE, or if SHIELD and Enhancement work with Energy explosion or what not. Though I do enjoy helping people learn and understand the game, it can get tedious to see all of these questions asked repeatedly (and get answered simultaneously by 5 or six different people)
Some sort of Quick Reference on the main page that is clearly marked and easy to find would be great. People would have to know that it exists, and know that it's the best first place to check for answers.

it would be great if there was a counter (maybe next to the "upcoming release" one) that would show how many people are currently in the chat room. I think that would help up the usage.
If someone was hanging out, waiting for other chatters to show there would be a chance someone would come in knowing someone was there already :)
I agree with SKeevo. The times the chat room has been filled up have been a lot of fun, but it's hard to get people in there cause there's no way to let them know

Skeevo and Joker are both correct, everytime im in the chat room with a bunch of people its a hell of alot of fun, theres actually good disscussions going on, every1 should try it.
Ok sorry for the delay in getting this response up. I'll try and answer most of the big questions and answer some specific ones users posted.
Re: Home Tab
- Good idea, this one will get passed along to the Admins
Re: Contests
-This is a great idea and something we're now planning. The contests will be open to all the members of the site and we should have some nifty prizes to boot. More details will be to come on these.
Re: Ability to Edit ones posts
-Thanks for your opinions on this one but this isn't something we're going to change. We've had problems in the past where a user will cause problems and then edit their post to cover up the evidence.
Re: Member Searches
-The new search feature is on its way. We are looking into a forum where members can post looking for others from their state but not sure where thats going to go yet.
Re: Online Play
-Hmmm.....what a good idea :)
Re: Empty Chat Room
-This is something that we've discussed, we're trying to find more hosted chats we can do to get the place jumping.
Re: Tripplej tournaments
-This is something we took into consideration and decided that the alternative format we came up with just doesn't work. We have opened the forum they reside in so anyone can now reply. So the tournaments are back, but they're going to have to stay in that forum. They can get to the point where they're getting bumped constantly and in the crowded GD forum it can move a lot of other threads down.
I'll try and contact TrippleJ about this, see if he'd want to run them again here.
Re: Colors of the Site
-I'll need to check this one out, I see no problems with the colors, all are light and very readable. Are others seeing different?
Re: RabbidGerbil Thumbs Up
- Bonus! :)
Re: F.A.Q
- We need a new site and a general F.A.Q for new users is a good idea as well. This is something we may ask the users to help with.
That should cover most of the major topics.
Any questions?
Thanks for the post, but you didn't adress my request, which may have gotten lost amidst the many posts.
Can we get a larger selection of avatars, or even come up with our own avatar? That would be really great! Thank you.
- I would like the search function (for posts, etc.) to be returned to the way it was.
- Also, I would like a downloads section. (good Excel Team Builders, Dial Generators, Maps, etc .)
- And we definitely need a Tournament/Battle Report Forum.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

we could...
go to www.creationmatrix.com ... oh wait
WE COULD UNBLOCK WORDS LIKE c r a p and creation matrix (on word)
I mean come on you can say #### on little kids TV shows and its pretty stupid to block a site name just cause they are a competator (sp?)
Also, a downloads section would be cool... where people could send in stuff to be downloaded.

Superhero symbols like the flash, or wonderwoman, daredevil, or thor... I myself would like a Plastic Man symbol...
OR small pictures of your favorite clix...
Or small Superhero portraits, like the minions of Doom team, only other characters.

Didn't look through everyone's replies on the thread, so if this suggestion came up...I second it. Have a section on the site itself for articles. People or mods write in articles on strategy, reviews/uses of a particular figure or team, what people see mostly in tournaments so others can look through the articles instead of older threads, that sort of thing. Most of the threads on this board (or the boards in general) seem to be asking for hints, tips, strategies and so on, an article section would be helpful.
Re: Articles

online gaming
I think that HCRealms is THE best game oriented site, period. Interest in HC as brought a lot of new members and with it a lot of people are jamming the thread with "Why has this figurine this Arch-Ennemies?" and " I fixed things up" and also "this would make more sense". I really think that a lot of players are more casual than competitive and would benefit from a Custom rules section where they can share their view and even inspire each other.
My two cents
-Sly-
I read through the list of suggestions and I didn't see this one, but I'd like the character length in pms to be expanded to 2000. 1500 may work as well. When I'm doing trading, I constantly run out room. Even with deleting the old comments, it usually still takes up more than the allotted space with the agreed upon figures, shipping method, and packing preferences. I've been splitting the info. into 2 pms, but when a lot of trades are happening, it's kind of bad to have to do that to all of the pms. A lot of time I'm just slightly over and wind up spending time going back over my pm looking for places to cut out words rather than send another pm with only one or two sentences in it.
I agree with Darth Sabre's comment about the levels for figures except that I would just like to see that done for LEs especially when new ones are released. To me it's interesting to see what level Wizkids has placed on which figure.
Thanks for the thread to voice our suggestions.

How about a function that you can upload your own avatar (on a german site for heroclix you can do it, with some limitations for your avatar like a maximum of 50x50Pixel or something alike). On that site my avatar is a raging Hulk in front of Namor and Strange!

OK - this is an update of my previous post in the light of the replies above and Druss's comments...
1. Reverse the recent changes in the site's look and feel. PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE....
2. "Fix the bug that stops people editing their posts."
I just read that this inability is intentional !!! WHAT ???! I think this is causing huge numbers of people hassle, while fixing a very small problem - ie "rude" posters.
3. STOP MOVING THINGS !!! (yes, I was shouting) - I now have to run an "intelligent search" to find threads or posts which I used to find with ease. An awful lot of threads, especialy the early ones, do not fit well into catagories.
4. Consider going back, at least in part, to the softer/gentler/friendlier look of the "old" site. The new format hurts my eyes, even with my Red Shades on (helps with the dyslexia)...and some of the site is VERY hard to read in terms of font size and clarity.
5. In "the old days" of the site (cue sound of Zimmer frame being dragged across the floor) - in other words a year ago - before the first HC release, and for a while after it, I found the site to be friendly, somewhat anarchic, humerous and an entertaining mix of gamers and comic guys. It still is all of the above, although I take heylady's point about the mad flamers. A lot of the "old core" of the site don't seem to post much anymore - and I wonder if she has hit on the basic reason...
6. Also, there are now "zogging loads and loads" (Ork expession) of threads with the same / similar themes. Perhaps someone, every 3 months or so, could update a locked post listing eg main threads on Dupes / main threads on Firelord / main review threads / Pineapple based
discussion group etc etc etc ? This might mean stuff could be added to existing arguments rather than running parallel...
8. Help us all by getting info on release dates / figures expected / indy deals confirmed etc etc - so we don't waste our time arguing over "fake" Green Lantern photos and "inaccurate" Pineapples.
9. Keep supporting the fun / quiz / community threads
and the occasional "site crazes" (yes, including the play by forum Heroclix games) - for some of us, our games, our comics, and this site, are a partial escape from a world which is not as amenable or person-friendly as our hobbies are - therefor this stuff matters.
10. Lots of us are using 3D terrain and buildings now (with all the rules conflicts this produces...) - so possibly a dedicated slot for 3D issues ?
All the Best

As a matter of fact, if you are pressed for time give ME the dimensions of the avatar and file size and I'll build the Sentinel Avatar myself for HCR. You guys know I rock the hizzouse with Photoshop and have too much time on my hands!
I, too shall donate my photoshop skillz.
Being able to edit posts again would be excellent.
Going back in time and not ruining "The Biggest Tournament in the World" by taking away all of the user interaction would be even better.
It's not a big deal but I donated money a while back now and have never gotten a bar above my name. Maybe you got rid of that or something.
It would also be very nice if private messages got bumped up to 1500 or 2000 characters. I do a good bit of trading on here and that 1000 character limit is really a pain sometimes.
The ability to Edit our own posts again would be excellent. Some people can apparently do it, while others can't.
For example, I posted a trade thread. I've got some more figures to add and some to take away. However, in order to change my original list at all, I'll either have to start an entirely new thread or would have to add a new post within my previous thread which'll likely get overlooked by readers.

Here are my suggestions:
1) Color Scheme: Definately agree with the others, the current look of the site is dull, dry and hard on the eyes. :( Very "un-comicbooky."
Would personally prefer a look similar to the Wizkids Heroclix sites (nice, simple and brightly colored!)
2) Some new Avatars would be great I agree, the suggestions given were pretty good (must have Captain Marvel/SHAZAM!)
3) A little more functionality over at the trading forums. How about giving a "willing to trade internationally" symbol to the users on the board. This would save me and many other international users a whole lot of time, and make life easier for the US based traders.
4) Remove the word c-r-a-p from the word filter. Currently this causes more trouble than it's worth... (s####, skys####ers, etc.) Also I'm pretty sure it's a PG-13 (at worst) word.
That's about it for now. Thanks for yor time.

i know this is a little more specific than you may be looking for, but it's something that's been bugging me for a bit. keep fighting the good fight, yo...

Anyway you can search by username in the search page, which is really hard to get to at this point. I am going to ask Typhon to add a link along the top to make it easier, then you can get to the page that lets you search by user name.
Okay I just added in the changes I've been playing with over the last few weeks to the Units search. You should be able to search by the number of ranged combat attacks and you can also limit your search results by game universe. It's not everything, but it's certinaly a start.

HI
ok heres my thing.
I am SOOO sick of vs. threads (mainly all the batman vs. threads) im so tired of having to skim through them all to find the new non-versus threads (whatever happened to the NO MORE DUEL rule, if thats even the same thing).
Maybe you could throw all the vs threads into a seperate subsection in another realm or something that way it would be easier to find and/or avoid them.

Really like the site, great work, but the no-edit thing is frustrating. For people who trade a lot it is a necessity. If there's really that much problem with rude posters, just having an edit button in certain sections of the site (i.e. the Trading Forum) would be fine. If that's technically unworkable, though, just put it back everywhere.
Bottom line, site great, love it, loved it a lot more when I could edit my trade threads.
Thanks.

Adding a seperate comic section isn't a bad idea, Another Realm gets a bit cluttered and could use a section totally for comics.
This would also give us a place to put all of the misplaced comic posts that go into the HC GD forums.

Unfortunately, I feel I had to chime in and support the "return the edit" crusade.
I've been updating a thread where folks vote on the top remakes they'd like to see. I'd like to keep it as up to date as possible, but I hate forcing readers to look at every post to keep up with it. It is so much better when they can just look at the first page, and see what's up. I based the thread off of Stellar X, and wouldn't be surprised if he agreed, and am a big fan of boneyard's threads, and he often mentions a similar frustration there.
To sum up: maybe you could let a thread starter edit just the first post?
Thanks great work, I love this site!

Well that was a read, I think I read everyone's comments -
I'll echo these suggestions,
*a place for forum games - I think I was like in the first forum game ever, it didn't go so well LOL, but it was interesting and things have gone better since. The play forum now is great, but . . . I really like the one turn a day or so style game. Getting online and using the resources available to play a game straight through, just doesn't work for me with job, family etc. My last game was great, we played through mail here, but I enjoy reading others, and of course you can't read everyone's mail. If you had a forum just for that . . . only those that wanted to play or read would be there.
*hosted chats
*alter the housebots phrasing - they are a bit on the rude side
*split the trading deals involving uniques/LE's and deals involving nons. I'm an old guy with a family - most of the traiders want uniques/LE's, I'd like a place where I can just get some plain ordinary figures for the plain ordinary ones I have - help complete my collection - everybody seems to want a unique this or le that - how about some old fashioned I got him, you don't, you have that one, I don't . . . style trading?
:
My suggestions: Artisan's Guild
1) separate page for dial creation - like the maps section. You see here's my custom spiderman, is it a mod or a dial - you don't know until you check it out and your disappointed 50% of the time.
2) ban links to links - we can post links in the artisan's guild, there's no need to post a link to creation matrix so you can hit a link to someone's mods. If I want to go to CM I will and it takes the same effort to post a direct link as it does to post a link to CM.
3) permanent board for our member created artisan's directory, sorry I forget who started it - it keeps falling down the page LOL
4) Permanent board for good how to tips - moderator selected
5) If your going to do some hosted chats, how about Artisan's chats - a good way to exchange ideas and tips.
:
Other than that, I just have these general comments about my experience here -
1) I don't mourn for the old days with lots of pointless banter right in the middle of a thread - lines and lines of endless bull that for some reason, 3 or 4 people find funny and cheer on - meanwhile everyone else is trying to scroll out of it all the while praying, "Dear God, how much of this garbage must I wade through to get back to the topic." Sorry, but to me that's chatroom trash, not board material.
2) On negativity - I understand that people don't want to hear negative things, but to me, things have slipped so far the other way with the self appointed Holy Avengers of HC, I don't even bother to post anymore except in the Artisan's Guild. Right or wrong, my impression is you can't comment negatively about anything HC without being jumped on by 5-10 members, so its starting to feel as if you must like every character, every attribute and every rule, or don't bother to post. Seriously, if I made a post about Poison Ivy that happened to say, "well I think they should have given her this" or "I wish they hadn't given her that" - I think I'd get at least 5 comments about why I was wrong and atleast one yahoo calling me a flamer of WK products. So basicly to me, its say everything is great or don't say anything, I'm choosing the latter lately. I don't understand the mindset there, one of the reasons I started hanging out here vs the company site was that you did feel free to speak your mind, but the collective mentality now seems to be either cheer or shut up. That's a patron attitude, not a site attitude, I'm just sounding off about it because many people even in this thread seem to be hoping for a ban on "whining" type posts and I think the definition of "whining", at this point to some, includes anything not positive about HC. In closing I would just pose the question, what at this point is more negative and bringing the site down - the negative comments about heroclix, or the negative reactions to those comments?
:
Overall, I still enjoy the site, and come almost every day to relax and read up - especially in the Artisan's Guild. I was a donor last year, I will be again sometime in the future, that doesn't have to do with any displeasure, it has to do with my having to by twice as much oil this winter at an inflated price :( . One day I'll get ahead LOL - still a great site guys keep at it.

I seem to be saying this a lot lately...
I'm just a collector. I don't know how to play the game, nor do I really care. I just collect the rookies of the figures that I think look cool.
That said, I come to this site 3, 4 - 10 times a day even though 75% of this entire website is useless to me. The chat section won't let me in (even though I've been a member for at least a month now..far more than 24 hours) and I basically just hang out in the Traders section or the General Discussion.
I've played around with the MyRealms tool, but only find it usefull for the suggested prices. It would be nice if you could just select your figures from a big general list rather than by affiliation. Or maybe you can and I haven't figured it out yet.
What I would really like to see is something to enhance and simplify my trading experiences. A tool similar to that found on (do I dare mention another websites name) Heroclix Trading Post in which you can list your Have/Wants and then cross reference your list with other users' lists. That would certianly make it easier to find people who actually want what you have.
I also aggree that the threads for Nons and the threads for Uniques/LEs should be seperated. Currently you have to sift through 20 "I need Nightcrawler" posts to find one Nons for Nons post.
Other than that, anything you can think of that makes this site more entertaining for the "Just Collectors" out there would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for listening and keep up the great work!

That's just silly.

I guess I'm looking for something a bit different in the functionality department. I would love to see you add an RSS feed so that I can either use my syndication reader, or take the news with me on my PDS or iPod.
upgrade the chat room so that way trades can go easier and maybe have a drawing or some prizes or something
thanx
Is there any way that you could put a table tool or a box icon in the text options. People on here always want to know stats. If there was a table tool or something like that people could post their stats for figs and color the text to represent the superpower. I dont think it would have to be more than 12 clix since most figs don't have that many clix. So twelve columns by 4 rows, that's what 48 squares. I don't know if this could be done in the forum, but it would be useful and very convenient.
You could treat the CJ people like yall did the XP people, and post stats and pictueres!

Frankly, what I would like to see, is a demo of the game in a mpeg format. Where they go through a 1 on 1 game and explain most of the basic rules and flow of gameplay. I have freinds who are new to the game, and can't make heads or tails of the rulebook. This way, I could direct them to the site so they could pick up on how the game goes. If you've ever seen the mpeg movies on how to play Yu-gi-oh! (www.yugioh-card.com) you'll know what I mean.
But otherwise, I'd love to see contests where you can win uniques LE's and vets.
I would also like to see an online have want list, where you can state what figures you have, their condition, and a description of them. I don't mean a thread for it, but a specific link from your profile that has your have/want list. People could also search for a specific figure that someone has, and it would bring it up. For example, If I were to search these lists for "Unique Professor Xavier" it would bring up all those who have him on their haves list and are willing to trade him. I could then browse lists to see if I can offer anyone any of my haves for it. I think that in this case, you'd need a separate PM box specifically for trade offers.
And thats my two cents.
Hello all...
I support and agree with the comments made by GamerNick above.
Now...
If you try and run a top 10 posters search these days, or indeed anything else which will tell you how many posts someone has, the results are TOTALY off. For example, there is no doubt that Doomtoy and shin-goji should be there in the top 10.
I should be close, top 20 or so, I think, and people like azs and Melkolorian (sp ?) should be in the top 10.
eagletsi is shown at 1, which (with all due respect) I don't believe, and while MrPilkington is a first rate HCRealmer, I can't see the venerable gentleman having posted more than Doomtoy.
Several people in the top 30 or so have actualy never posted AT ALL.
Please, Draddog and co, PLEASE fix it...

I still come here for news on heroclix from time to time, and I would love you guys to be able to go back to how it used to be, I just don't see how you can do that without weeding out alot of things slowly. Anyway, Good Luck.
Hi Beetle, good to see you again.
...and yes, Draddog and co, "moving back to nearer how the site used to be" would definitly be one step towards making it better (again), but so would fixing and reactivating the top 10 listing, as well as increasing the ability of the search engine to generate (eg) lists of threads/posts containing fill-in-the-blank...
Anybody reading this ???

Hey Noman, this is a little off topic. I'll pull it back in the end. Nice to see you too. I'll try to post a little more around here every once in a while. If nothing else just to say hi. I'd like to give a shout out to azs too who seldom comes and visits us anymore. :) Been a while since i've seen an El Camino around.
Someone said something about a comics forum. I had asked for that long ago when i was over here the first time, but no one seemed interested. Oh well. :) Hope it takes off more this time.

I'm not sure how often you all already do this but updating the priceguide would be nice. Some of us are about 3 hours from our nearest Comic Book store (and place to buy Clix for that matter) and don't get to buy our priceguides to often because of work schedules. But hey its just a request

I noticed that this site is unaccessible at times (probably due to bad server?) and the page loads very slow (I'm using broadband) especially after posting a message. Can it be made faster in any way?

Something that I'd personally like to see done is more reinforcement on the rules. Some of the language that's been going on around here lately has been offensive, disrespectful, etc. There's been too many times where I've seen people easily, easily bypass the language filter. In all, either more moderators or moderation.
Besides that, a comics forum would a nice touch. The Top 10 posters was pretty awesome. I've gotten use to the look of the page. Maybe the edit function should come back like it was, instead of the "3 Minute Warning" (all my wrestling fans! Be happy that half of that team is fired!).

Im sure this has been said a bunch of times, but get rid of the # signs for words like craap, dam, and stuff. These words are said on TV first of all, and second, if I can say those words to my ultra conservative parents and they dont care, well they dont need to be censored here. Just a suggestion.

hmm... getting the two Indyclix promo stats up in a timely manner would be my only suggestion.
How about returning to apartheid? I prefered the sight when everything was split between DC and Marvel. I only play one, and now I am continually disappointed when I log on to a thread that sounds interesting to find that I'm unfamiliar and interested in any of the figures that are its subject,
Oh, lets see...
Put the Top 10 listing back.
Fix / Improve the site search engine...

I agree with you about the "tourney - style" reports.
It seems daft that anything dealing with HeroClix should not be allowed on the site...weird.

another thing would be nice is to see who is in the chat room while not being in the chat room like on the home page
Some excellent suggestions here. Just out of curiosity, can someone give me a site where I can play Clix online?

I'd like to have downloadable Units-tables.
Like: All Units from one set in order of collectorsno.
Has to have Dial / Points cost / range / number of arrows / name / flier - aquatic / R-E-V-Unique-LE / Teamabillity
I'm doing something like that, but I think anyone would like to have that (i.e. for Turneys ...)
At best in an editable format like word, pdf or exel.

id like a change of colors......from dull gray to background black and the font and stuff red.
I'd like to see more customizable feature for members. Some forums have alternate colours, custom emotion icons and so forth.
....we have (some) of these too, but only if you're a doner - and (without a credit card) how can i do that from this side of the "Big Pond" ?
Oh yes, and put the top ten listings back to normal...

Thank you for changing the private messages so you can have more than 1000 characters. It really helps in that the longer messages now fit in one pm as opposed to breaking it up. Thanks again.

I think a great feature would be to search for any individuals posts. For example, one of your best members is Boneyard. I would like to do a search for any of his inputs throughout all of the different forums.
Thank you for your time.

Actually you CAN do that. Three ways:
One, on his profile, there is a link to search for just his posts.
Two, on any of his posts, by his name, there is a magnifying glass icon - click on that.
Three, in the Advanced Search, there is field for "search by member".
Any of those should get you what you desire!

You can already do that. There is a search function at the top right of every page. Click on the 'Advanced Search' button. Then enter the username you are looking for in the 'Search by username' area. Scroll down and you can limit the search by forum or date. Then click on the 'Perform Search' button to get your results.
Hope this helps...

Now, can you persuade the powers-that-be to FIX the Top Ten listing so it WORKS again ???

I know how hard it would be to do this, but is there any way where those of us who are sarcastic and quick witted can have a spot to vent good-naturedly without fear of reprisal. Maybe create a forum moderated by whichever of the moderators you deem the least up-tight. There are many posts on this thread from people who were posting before I got here saying this isn't as fun a place as it used to be, and in the last few months the fun level has declined even more. Maybe a spot with a content warning so the easily offended don't wander into it by 'accident'. An enter at your own risk kind of thing.
One person posted on here that the moderators werent handling things very well as far as volume. I cannot say how untrue this is. I have been both on receiving and giving end of problems handled by moderators and they were always there to handle it. So, good job to the mods. Even AZS who I don't agree with right this second, but still he's doing his best to keep things under control so you gotta give them all their respect for that.

When you are just looking through a set, you should be able to look at like 10 guys per page or something, having to turn the page for each figure is very annoying
