hi there - someone posted something like this in the general forum, and i thought it might be best posted here. at work, i'm on a Win2K machine & use IE. at home, i use MacOS X and IE 5.2.

when i surf at home, i find that nearly 100% of the time i load a page i've been to before, it appears the same way it did when i surfed it long ago (3-4 days, sometimes weeks). the only time i ever get the newest content is by clicking the 'go' button next to the forum jump pulldown.

let's say i pull down 'trading forum' from the forum jump pulldown. i get the page as it looked a few days ago. i go to the bottom of the page, click the submit button next to the pulldown, and viola, fresh page. now, let's say i'm looking for a post i read a couple of days ago in the trading forum. i click the link to page 2 at the top of the forum. i get page 2 from however many days ago. if i go to the bottom of the page & click the submit button next to the trading forum jump, i get back to the fresh 1st page. what does this mean? i can never see any page of any forum correctly unless it is the first page.

at work, i surf without problem because i'm using windows. but no matter which MacOS i use (9/X), i can never see the correct content here at HCRealms.

is the site tested on macs? before the redesign, i never had these problems. this is mostly an irritant, but it also means that i can never properly browse any of the forums, and i have to log in each time i visit the site because the homepage still appears to me as it did when i first surfed there.

can anyone help me out? thanks in advance...

Can you refresh? That usually works for me.

i refresh. i shift-refresh. i clear my cache. nothing changes.

to clarify - i just got a brand-new 15-inch TiBook. i went online for the first time last night & had the same problems surfing the site that i had on my old laptop - once i've been to a page, returning to it through a simple text link does not give me the newest version of the page. only by clicking the submit button next to the forum jump pulldown (or the mailbox pulldown in my PM-box) do i get a fresh version of a page.

am i the only mac user with these problems?

Nope. Got a G4 at work (Sweet Caddie!) and I have the same problems.

I've never had that problem. I would suggest that your problem, rather than being centered around mac os (since it happens in 9 and X, which are wildly different OS's) is IE. IE 5 Mac does have some very strange caching mechanisms. You might try surfing with another (better) browser. Camino is very nice, and features Tabbed Browsing and popup blocking.

i agree about IE, BUT given the share of the mac browser market that IE maintains, it makes sense for HCRealms to take a look at these problems, because it will affect most of the Mac user base. right?

Hmm... Neither Draddog or Myself developed our sites on a Mac, so we never checked it out on that system. I'll see if I can read up on similar problems and see where that takes us. It definately sounds like a caching problem though. Have you tried using the option "Check for new version on every visit" in the IE Internet Options?

there's no 'internet options' on a mac, so i couldn't do exactly what you described, but i did the mac equivalent - in IE's preferences, under 'advanced' i've told it to always update pages. should be the same thing.

in any case, no dice. same problems persist. d'oh!

thanks for looking into it, tho...
