View Full Version : Maps Secret Wars Map (Sorry No download)
I have finally gotten most of my web site together and its time to post my official listing for the map portion of the site:
www.ponchot.com
SECRET WARS HEROCLIX WEBSITE
SECRET WARS HEROCLIX WEBSITE
SECRET WARS HEROCLIX WEBSITE
This is the game I've been wanting since 1984 and Wizkids helped make it come to life! I've combined existing figures with over 14 custom figures. I have also made a custom map that has been scanned 100% from the comic book Secret Wars.
**NO DOWNLOAD ON MAP**
Sorry, the map is over 100mb and the files really are a mess. You can see way too much info on the site on how I made it though. Im sure if you look at that section and read what I went through, you'll see why its not downloadable.
A Columbus, Ohio comic book store has has allowed me to host games for the last few months and it has gone very well. A group of three of us have carefully created teams that compliment and challange each other. So far, no one team will dominate, not even Galactus. Yes, we have a playable Galactus. BUT the details on him will arrive next week. I have so much info to share and Ive been trying to cram it it all into my website in an orderly manner, so enjoy!

This is the best use of a nearly-2D map that has been done with HC. That you can package it all in a single card box is phenomenal. This, of course, is THE big drawback to 3D buildings. Your custom figures particularly Absorbing Man leave me with a tint just this side of a Key Lime pie. I love the way you blew up actual artwork from the books.
Bravo!

 WOW
That is the coolest map I have ever seen. I don't know what else to say, I'm speechless, if I ever come around down to Ohio I will find a way to go to one of your tournaments.

Ponchot,
If this is who I think it is, I played on your team a few weeks ago. I was the poor rolling Doom team that rookie Xavier kept mind-controlling Vet Ultron to smack my own guys with. My Brother ran the Avengers team. What's up?

This is fantastic! I love it. One question though, how did you get the point totals for your figs? Just curious because I took the time to plug Lizard into Warlock's formula and only got 57 points. Reason I did is because I love Lizard and thought your points looked kinda high. But I could never do all the work you did, so I am not taking anything away ;)

Just out of curiosity, COULD you post the map for those of us willing to wait? (And, in my case, those of us w/ T3 connections?)
Hey Sandman,
yeah its me. That night we played was the best game Xaxier has even had. If it makes you feel better, I was Doom during last Mondays tournament & I was slaughtered. Only 3 little kills & not a single villian of my team left alive.
Hey rabidroadkill,
Yes, our points are high. We didnt use the program. I always made them too strong, so I had my roommates make the dials. We argued over them for months. We based a lot of them off of existing characters. Most based off Infinity Challange since Clobbering Time wasnt out when we were starting all this fun. So that might explain some of our odd points since that was Heroclix first release. Also, we had to place them into a prewritten storyline and existing team structures. So we forced a lot of the points to make the teams even.
Sorry WadeDeadpool,
My website cant handle the size & the files really are messy. The hands on cutting and taping corrected a lot of mistakes that I never corrected on the original files.

You have been a visionary that has set a new standard and direction for WizKids to make their maps by. Lets hope they realize it. Again great work on the map, and awesome work on the Secret Wars theme overall.

I freaking LOVE Secret Wars & this map of yours is pure brilliance. I wish I could achieve the level of quality & design that you have here. If you had more maps, you could run an event @ Origins with it.
I have finally gotten GALACTUS on the web site!
www.ponchot.com
Dial details, why and how we made him, and even his cat!
I also made full color playing cards to go with him. Since Galactus is a randomly played character in our game, I wanted to have a little bit of interactiveness to him (is that really a word?) Keep in mind as you veiw the dials for each character, we had to place them into a prewritten storyline and team structure. So dont go too hard on the dials ok. My roommates and I argued for weeks over these (theyre harder to make than you think)!
So far he IS a threat but does NOT win everytime. In fact, he has only won once and came in last place once. He has also only been completely defeated once.
That this is a work of Genius is obvious.
I have rarely been as impressed by a fan-produced game variant, and it ABSOLUTLY fits in to both the game and the Comic storyline.
I am depressed-as-heck that this is all in the States, and us Brits can't get to it and play it !
If you ever bring it to the UK, PM us all and we'll give it a go.
The Galactus rules and stats, and the use of "Megablocking" terrain are the best bits.
This sets a benchmark.
Come on, WizKids, hire the man !!!!
All the Best

But all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!! For a huge Marvel fan that I am, this is the Heroclix game of Heroclix games! Excellent work! I agree with all your decisions and use of Galactus. You have not only brought Galactus, who I didn't think anyone would be able to, into the game of Heroclix, you brought to reality the whole Secret Wars Story line! What can I say? I love the whole concept! You have definitely raised the bar for those of us who like to add Marvel imagination to Heroclix! Again, Thank you for sharing!

Ponchot,
This is fantastic -- have you considered running Secret Wars at Origins or even Gen Con (since it's not that far away from you now) this year?
I know *I* would show up for it!
Ponchot,
That is really slick looking and the Galactus cards are a great idea (but where is his cat's Incapacitate goo? The picture on the card has him breathing it, but it never comes up on his dial!). I really like your boldness in creating new the new figures and new team ability and like your balance between the teams. And I like the Galactus figure (of course, I gave that figure to my wife back when we first started dating, so that big planet-eater has a special place in my heart forever. *sigh* :knockedou .)
Thanks for your efforts and please keep the updates coming! I eagerly await the full rules!
Have a Great Day,
Gary E. Poisson
Responses to above posts:
Hello all, Thanks for the visits. I eventually try and respond!)
Emberquick: I really thought about Orgins until I checked the table prices (wow!). I've been to lots of conventions, but never a gaming convention. I've heard of great quality on Mage Knight environments and 3D maps, so I'm nervous about showing anything there. Any tips?
Clix776: Im really glad you brought that up! I originally wanted Incapacitate on the cat, but I made that power into a separate card for Galactus instead. A few days ago, another post let me know I had points to spare on this character (worth 71points instead of 100). Also, during the game, people such as Thor and Iron Man do not fear his multi range attack because of their Toughness or Invulnerability. So, a perfect solution to all of the above, is to add Incapacitate, and thus making him into a triple Incapacitate nightmare.
skinnykid71: Theres info on how to join us on the page now!

AWESOME!! Using the buildings and the background graphics straight from the comics....brilliant! Able to be done as a packaged stand alone theme game, Wizkids please take note. Agreat way to get someone new into the game.
Keep it up dude.

Table prices? I've been running mini games off and on at GenCon and Origins for years, and as far as I know if you sign up and run your game for 3 or 4 time slots, *they* pay *you* for showing up--reimbursing you for your convention badge at the very least.
They charge vendors in the exhibit hall a fee for their tables, but just running an event shouldn't cost you a thing.
And as far as map quality goes, it varies quite a bit. Trust me, your Secret Wars setup would turn a *lot* of heads.

I'd also suggest some legal protection for your ideas (pattent, Trademark, something) before wizkids steals it and starts charging us 39.95 for it.

I noticed on Colossus you mentioned the lighter and boiling water. You might want to try a hair dryer.
Also have you ever though about printing more and selling them? You could include the map (obviously), the dials, base top (could assemble oursevels and make our own figures if we wanted or just play figureless if need be), the objects and the Galactus cards. The Galactus figure can be found on ebay unless you are lucky enough to already have one (like me!). Might be a easy way to earn a few $$.
Anyway great stuff!

and you forgot the Healer too!
Thanks!
Hello,
Few things on Galactus:
The drones are really just for fun, they do very little, so the dial I have on them is three deep with only a 3 shield. They are worth ten points each (basically like destroying a wall).
They only prevent close combat attacks since Galactus basically follows Sentinel rules and is so tall (drones do not block line of sight for range attacks).
If any one wants the Galactus toy I used, there are two on Ebay right now (not mine, just the same toy I used). Just look up Galactus and 14".
Sorry I haven't got any more details on the Healer yet. I got burned out on the web site. More as soon as I can.
I will try and run a game at Orgins. Thanks for all the suggestions. Wish me luck and hope to see you all there.

Thanks for the tip: I'll be looking for the game at Origins!
Hello,
Has anyone had their map laminated at Kinkos?
Im real nervous about lamination. I wonder how
it will look since custom maps have sooo many
seems from the printer pages being taped together.
Im curious if there will be air pockets or lines on
every single paper seam.
I really want to laminate it to keep the map alive.
Its taken some abuse, but its still ok so far. Let me
know what you think.
Im hoping to run Secret Wars all day Saturday at
Orgins. Just look for Galactus!
Also, I uploaded new pics of Colossus, Zsaji,
Volcana, SpiderWomanII, Lizard, Galactus's Cat,
and Iron ManII.
New dials are being created this weekend in
reparation for Orgins. If I want to show it off,
I better have better point values for all my customs
huh. More later.

Awesome map! Very cool site. I laminated one map it cost 12 dollars. I highly recommend it. BUT...there will be bubbles. Little ones. And if they F up your map, they're not responsible. But trust me, if you'veever played on a laminated map, you will never want to play on anything else.
14 of the custom figures have new dials and they are finally on the web site (all except Galactus's Cat and Zsaji).
New pictures and dials for my Custom Wasp and Smart Hulk will come next week.
Have a good "Cosmic Justice" week! I know I will.

Ponchot, how did Origins go??
Hey GreenLantern73,
Orgins went VERY well. I was able to set up near Wizkids and I was simply surrounded. I set up Saturday and Sunday but was only able to squeeze in three games. Since its a 12 round game and a total of over 3500points, it takes 4 hours per game. I really had a lot of fun watching new players enjoy it.
Sat Game 1 Overview:
Wrecking Crew-played by HCRealms own Muffinlad, a powerhouse of 1253points & had the Lizard kill Galactus's Gun right from under the Avengers nose.
Doom-Jacob (& HCRealmer Tidge) 590points
X-Men-John 780points (2nd)
F.F.-James 258points
Avengers - Alex 241points
Galactus - Random 629points (3rd)
Sat Game 2 Overview:
Avengers - Dwight KILLED GALACTUS! Gun and the man all by himself for the first time ever. Great job, its not easy!
Such a beating, we didnt even add up the points. Wrecking Crew-Michael (sorry I wouldnt sell lizard Michael), Doom-Larry, X-Men-Luke, F.F-Tristan ( I told you it was hopeless to win with the F.F.)
Sun Game 3 Overview:
X-Men - Dwight showed up again & did great with the X this time, quite a challenge against Doom 762points (1st)
F.F. - Matt ALMOST WON , 711points ( 8th time for 2nd)
Avengers - Kevin 566points (3rd)
Wrecking Crew - Michael Tidge / Alex 521points
Doom - Rob 468points
Galactus - Random 533points
Hey StealthArmor, I'll do another update in a few weeks along with the new Wasp and Hulk I made. Sorry for delay, so much to do in so little time. Enjoy!

Well thanks Ponchot for replying to my thread so i thought i would reply to you reply on YOUR thread.
well i definatly could use tips.
First off I love Kindom Com and was thing about it for awhile but i just though there are WAY too many characteers
Well there would be 4 teams methinks:
Superman Allys- Superman, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, Flash, Green Lantern etc.
Batman Allys- Batman, A really cool Blue Beetle, Green Arrow, Black canary, Steel etc.
Human Liberation Force-Lex Luthor, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Riddler, Kobra, Vandal Savage etc.
Neo-Superheroes-Magog, Cathederal, Von Bach, 666, Alloy, Captain Marvel
I think the map would be the Gulag since that is where the fight is.
First move would be the Neo-Supers, cuz they are revolting. And also i would give them a wild card team ability. because the change sides sometimes
Second Move would be the Superman Allys, of course led by Wonder Woman an Superman
Third in the Action would be the Human Liberation Force
And last is the Batman Allys
I was thinking that icould make bat bots to act as probe like in your secert wars. except i'll give them toghness and Incapaticitate.
i would make sure my Villian teams and my Hero teams are very evenly pointed. THis is gonna give the oppurtunity to make some Incredible Neo-Supers. But who? and what powers cuz they arn't all clearly depictited.
I also thought of making the Specter as my random Character but he wouldn't have to be huge just on the sidelines. Declaring judgement through cards which i would make.
Things i'm wondering is how powerful should Capt. Marvel and Supes should be.
0k suggestions please, comments, likes dislikes. Bring it!
I'm excited!
BTW thank Ponchot for sparking my creativity!
New Charles Xavier Custom is now on the site. I just added him and he is fun to play. The X-Men used him last week, but still couldnt win. It really made him a target for Molecule Man. Charles now has an 11 fist and a shared shield of 18!
New custom of Mr Fantastic coming soon,
Michael

I've actually seen your site numerous times and everytime I go there is something new or different greaat Job Ponchot!
Happy New Year!
I know its been a while since we've all looked at this thread, but heres a quick New Years gift for everyone that still look check for updates: Beyonder Doom has been added!
Just for fun, I made a big fig of Doctor Doom from the actual Secret Wars toyline. This figure represents the last page of issue #10 when the Beyonder power causes Dooms body to swell in size. Its a great conversation piece to pull out when the game gets slow and is worth a few laughs.
We did finally play the other night as a two player game with the new rules (good vs bad-5 turn base) . The bad guys suffer greatly from the new flyer rule. Also the ground to elevated change really messed me up. I have a lot of trouble remembering all the changes, so I got beat bad. The best part of my game was when I had Vet Ultron do an EE with a range of 13 (x3 perplex on range!). The good guys didnt even see it coming and I was full power with the 14 fist.
So when I got beat, I pulled out the Beyonder Doom to see what he could do. I took 2 handy-caps: no Probability Control & damage reduced to 3. I still got beat bad with Reed Richards Outwit and then full power Colossus charging with dumpster AND a critical hit for 7 clicks total! Oh well, I suck at playing, therefore I paint.
PS: New images of custom Rhino, Kalibak, War Machine, Kree, & Santa Claus!
Im working on using the new Galactus to recreate
issue#9 (when all the heros attack G). The heros I
currently use total around 1500 points, so we'll
just boost a few to Vet versions and see how it
goes. Personally, I dont think I'll buy the new
Galactus since I've used mine so much & my
budget wont allow it. Plus, I have a room mate
that will but it anyways.
Also, I really think the balance I created in the
game with the "low action Galactus" really works
for my setup. The fact that he is random and card
based, really allows everyone to play him at some
time during the game.
Dont get me wrong though, the new one has a lot
of potential for great scenarios (such as "Heralds
Revenge" = x4 Heralds vs Starving Galactus). I
just dont want to reconstruct my entire set for the
new Galactus. I'd rather work on my next big set:
Mutant Massacre (not coming soon).
