While the popularity of HCO is growing, not all members who log on are able to play games (limited time online, delayed game creation/setup, dropped connection(s), etc.). I'd suggest instituting one or more of the following:
1) 1 Vs 1. Uses the standard 1:1 rules introduced in Street Fighter, and smaller maps.
2) Story Mode. Similar to 1 Vs. 1, except that the player builds a team of 2-4 characters, and plays out simple scenarios on smaller maps. Each "story" would last 4-5 games, and would have a theme built around a character, keyword or team ability featured on your team. A "Bonus" challenge/round could randomly be thrown in, allowing players to win a free single booster.
Completing a story earns you a figure related to the theme. If you fail a specific part of the story, you are set back one game. That way, there is no easy way for players to cheat the system or breeze through.
My 2 cents.
