evilspider -
There's never anything in New York because it is prohibitively expensive to run a convention there.
WhiteRabbit909 -
I'd bet there's nothing in California because Wizard World has taken so many dates. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the agreement included a ban on other comic conventions, which would shut out San Diego.
However, there are rumors that WW is looking for a California site and date, so we'll see...
(That said, they mention having dropships at San Diego, so who knows...)
General -
I understand that these are the World Championships, but will other "official" tournaments be held at these events?

Ok, so how do I qualify for the Marvel world championships if there isn't any ranking? Do I just show up? Are there going to be qualifiers? They better move fast, there isn't a lot of time
The shame about no Cali sites is that there are three pretty good conventions there (Wondercon, APE, and the granddaddy of them all, Comic-Con).
Still, I'm ready to rock for the Marvel Championships.

Hmm, the closest one to me is the Mage Knight one and I don't play. Oh well ;)
Does anyone know if they are sealed or HtH?

how do you qualify for the marvel, dc & indy heroclix world tourneys? I didn't think you could get rankings fior these.
why is there no Canadian sites or any tourney at gencon So-al?
It says on the the wizard world website that the marvel championships are sealed 300 pts. Since there are no rankings, I am thinking it is just a show up kind of thing. They don't have a lot of details yet, though. Here is the link for those interested:

They probably wanted to pick some central U.S. Locations.
Bummer.

Even if they don't have anything in Cali, theres aalways Vegas - Convention Central - and it even has stuff for other members of the family to do so you could make a better "vacation" out of it.

That was too funny.
But in actuality Kalamazoo is famous for being right smack dab inbetween Detriot and... CHICAGO! Hmm I must learn more about this thing they call... DC.

Why is there never anything in Brazil!?
Also, how can a World Championship be available only to the ones who just shows up at the convention?
When I read in the site that there were no rankings for Heroclix, it explained that this is because HC intended to be a funny, non-competitive game. So, how do we have a World Championship? Isn´t this something competitive??
WHY NO RANKING?

How on Earth are they gonna have World Championships but not rank people? Wizkids is being very sceptical here.
w00t, DC Worlds are a half hour drive from me
Darn, I only play Marvel (simply a money thing), yet if I get to go to any of thge conventions, it'll be Chicago. Oh well, maybe I can spend a bit on DC.

Why isn't there a cool reward for the Heroclix players? Shouldn't they get to decide on a character being made and what type of powers they have and whether or not the character is a unique or a R/E/V ? The mageknight and mech players get to do this (sorta) shouldn't the lucky stiff who wins the 'clix championship be able to do the same?
It's still pretty early. You never know what the winner might get.

being able to choose a hereo/villian to be produced in the next set would be very cool. the winner wouldn't be able to assign powers as those would be determined by MArvel or DC continuity.
I'd chose Willy Lumpkin or Baghead Spidey.

I disagree, the winner could choose powers, if the character they selected had a wide range of abilities that could be represented in clix form, Spiderman is an example of this, as is Ironman.

I'd choose a Unique Colossus to have TK for Fastball Special. He'd be a standing pose with his arm pulled back ready to throw & using the 70's costume.

Figures I'm in Chicago and I'm already going to comic con, and I don't play DC !!! No fair ! Stupid superman. Guess I'm stuck playing ####py dc. at least its a big turny with nice prizes and such.
However it's done, it isn't a World Championship if the Tournament doesn't allow for qualifiers/invited players from the other active HeroClix countries - IF a UK National tourney was actualy held, then all the UK players could go to it, with (say) the top 3 or so getting invites to a REAL World Championship in the States, or anywhere else.
Same goes for the German players, the Australians, the South Americans, etc.
A US tournament could produce a US Champion (worth it to see someone beat The Rex, after that laughable magazine article), but not a World Champion.
Regional stuff is starting to happen in the UK - well, warden seems to have got things going in London, we have in the SW, as has DarkFalcon, and there are others elswhere in the country.
A "real" UK Nationals could probably be organised fairly efficiently now, and I assume the same is true for the other countries.
On another point, given the size of the States, there would HAVE to be regionals, as, if not, players would be faced with having to cross an entire continant just to play in round 1. This is silly - it's like asking me and the rest of the SW England players to travel to Eastern Russia to play in the first round - logistic nonsense.
If it's just "turn up and play at some Games Day or other" then the winner will be champion of that event, or possibly that City/State, but no more...and if they are any kind of gamer at all, they will know that.
Regionals, Nationals, and THEN a "World Championship" please !
LoL
All the Best

The 2003 UK Nationals were held last weekend (at Gencon Europe). The Rex was there and he won it (beating me, the 2002 champion, in the final).
Why weren't you there? Maybe you haven't joned the yahoo group HeroClix-UK (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/heroclix-uk/) ? This publicised the event in advance and has various interesting reports on the outcome.
It's not clear when you'll next get a shot at the title. Next year, Gencon Europe is in Amsterdam. Wherever the next UK championship is held, The Rex says he will return to play us again. See you there, I hope ...

So TheRex, a U.S. citizen, is the U.K. National champion but won't be going to Philly for the Marvel HC championship?? I don't know if I should feel thrilled or confused. In M:TG, I can't go fly to another country & participate in its National tourney just to get a better shot @ making Worlds since I'm not a resident of that country. That loophole should be closed for the benefit of you Euro's.
As far as the opinion that players from other countries should be allowed to compete, I agree!! The more, the merrier. Raw Deal's championship this year was played by 2 Americans,a Canadian & a Brit and will be expanded to include players in Singapore & Chile next year.
World Champion with the tournament only being held in the US? World Champion my ###! If us Australians could get there, I guarantee we would win.

Perhaps I missed something and that happens more times that I care to admit, but where's this article from The Rex? Everything I've read so far seems to indicate he's the type of player you'd love to pump a few rounds into after playing him, due to his unsportsmanlike style of play. Hope I'm wrong and would love to read that article. Someone link me or PM me with it.
Thanks to all!

GC, it was in an InQuest a couple of months ago. I still have the hard copy but I'll see what I can do about getting a link for you.

Thanks, GL. My friend has a bunch of InQuest mags, so I'm sure he's got it. I'll see about getting it off him. Any idea which issue #?
Thanks again!

Gacy's Clown, the article is in issue # 95. I just found it this morning & have it in my car. I'm surprised that someone who is "independently wealthy" like TheRex claims to be in the article can't make a trip to Philly.
