View Full Version : A few HCRealms Tweaks
Over the past few weeks we've been asking what improvements you, the HCRealms user, would like to see. We've managed to implement a few of these, while we are looking at the rest.
The first set of changes is in the Units search. You may now search by the number of ranged combat attacks. You can also limit all searches by the Universe (DC or Marvel for right now). These were a very common request, and Typhon and I are happy we could get them to you faster.
Another change was actually to replace a link that was lost during the upgrade to the interface. Along the top bar an "Advanced Search" is now available. Clicking this link will take you to the older forum search which enables you to search with more details.
We have seen the other requested features and are looking into implenting those that we can.

Um, looks like there's a problem with the # of ranged attack search. Several are not showing up: ie V Boomerang does not show for a >2 search.
But the idea is great and a happy addition at that.
Edit: Upon further review, it appears none of the IC figs show under this search.
But the EDIT function is back baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about Search by team instead of Limit Seach by team,
right now if I want to view all Shield I have to put in a value of 1 for the speed (or something similar) and then select the team.
Definitely an amazing site, the one site I check every day. And therein lies my single complaint - HCrealms content. I loved it when you were giving us a sneak peek every week or an interview or something - the last couple of weeks have been pretty empty. The patrons fill the folders, but I'm talking content from you guys yourselves. Not that Im complaining too much - this is still the greatest site out there and I know there's been a lot of work on the inner workings of the site lately - but how about some Cosmic Justice peeks or interviews with someone or something? Thanks!

It's actually suppose to work like this. Teams, Universe, Costs are all "limiters", you define a search and then limit it by those values. It's a bit odd, I realize, and might get changed in a future version, but for right now, that's it ;). Searching on a speed of 1 always shows everything btw, so it's a good way to start off a search using the limiters!
I've lost the "Edit" link on all my posts. Did it vanish in the "upgrade"?

I really preferred the edit button, it made my trade thread so much easier to update.
That and horrid typos can be fixed...

There is still the issue of multiple notification e-mails being sent each time a subscribed thread is replied to. I had 115 e-mails in my in box today. I like the notification but it gets tiresome having to delete all the duplicate e-mails, especially with a dial up connection.
What?!?! Please tell me that you aren't serious! The "edit" thing is just a glitch, right? Does anyone realize how much of a pain in the rear it's going to be on the trading forum when you need to do an update? That means that every person is going to have to look through each post to see if something has been added or removed rather than look at the top of the thread! Please say it ain't so!
If it's an issue of the mods not being able to keep up (as drgnof tyr suggests) then maybe they need more mods.
Hopefully, it's just a temporary situation and it will be back soon and all my ranting will be for nothing. Of all the changes made lately, this would be enough to send me back to wizkids' forum (*shudder*).

First Off....Great Site...!!
Here's a few mistakes currently on the units section...
Fred Myers LE has 3 Range Arrows, but the units section only shows 1 Arrow.
Experienced Psylocke is only 39 points, but the units section shows 42 points.

It seams to me that we can edit in certain areas and not in others. I have been able to Edit in the Trading Forum and Another Realm, but not in General Discussion and others. This suits me fine, as I have seen less flaming in the General Discussion, probably because of this.
Well, I'm unable to edit in the trading forum... which is the only place I really care if I can or not.

Here are my thoughts on the 'no editing' feature:

Three times, all because I used a "}" instead of a "]"
When did this no edit thing become final. I edited my trade list this morning and now I can't 12 hrs later. This means instead of changing my trade list when my needs and haves change, I will have to make an entirely new list, thereby wasting space on your server and will have to change the signature to send people to the correct page. This seems a little extreme just to keep a few jerks from being jerks. Why should we all have to suffer for the idiocy of a few?

I'm also in favor of restoring the Edit function. What percentage of the users were abusing it?
Apologizing in advance.... Though by reading some of the posts it seems that we may likely be a minority, there are a few of us who don't like to see typos or mistakes in our own posts. It's nice to be able to go back and fix our mistakes.
It's also nice to be able to go back and add an important point or fix a glaring contextual error, with out having to post another message saying "what I meant to write was..." immediately afterward.
There have been a few times where, had I followed through, I'd have ended up posting four or five messages in succession to complete a point or statement. Now I usually stop (for fear of spamming or cluttering the board needlessly) before I can fully articulate my point.

Since the upgrades to the team builder I have been unable to "Add Non-Affiliated Units." I can add team members from every other section but that one. I get an error when trying to access the page.
Also, when you do a search for a specific type of unit you should be able to add it to the team from the results screen rather than having to browse back through the units screens.

Having typos is annoying but not crutial. However, is there any way you can restore the Edit feature to just the trade section? That would be most helpful.
Also the total features in the Myrealms section - What you have, what you need, and view your entire collection - did not show everything I have. Mostly missing Xplosion.
We really need the EDIT button back. Don't cripple the site because idots want to cheat the system just to be vulgar. How can I manage my trading thread if I can't edit? how will we run our polls if we can't edit? this is a bad oversight. There must be a better solution than losing this much functionality.

How about a check box to delete several, chosen threads at a time.
Are you working on the e-mail notification system? In the e-mail it says other replies will be made but I will not recieve more e-mails until I visit the thread again. It is just clogging up my inbox.

The limiters do not work at all in the units section.
I tried to look for units that are >= 111 Avengers Speed = 0
and all combinations thereof and got no results each time.

interesting... two days ago, Ramplate could have merely EDITED his response; thereby clarifiing his greivence without making redundant replies. now he's forced to mumble...."err...I meant less than or equal to". Is it starting to make sense why taking away editing functions is a bad Idea?
Did these "tweaks" do somthing to the "MyRealms" section. It hasn't worked right in days!

You "tweakers" are going too far. Improvements are good, but if break all the functions and rescind all permissions, there'll be no reason to come here. Without the Edit button, This site becomes as useful as a 1985 BBS.
The edit function may return over the weekend. What you all seem to miss is, it was a bug that let you have access to it in the first place and only recently. For a long time and on most of the other sites, the edit feature has never been active for users.
Since it means so much to so many of you, we are going to look at restoring it over the weekend either in a limited capacity or possibly, for donors only.
I am looking into the other bugs raised, but with MK Uprising releasing this week, I've been a bit busy with that.

Try searching on a speed => 1, 0's get dropped.

On the Donors line....what happened to my "donor bar" thingie? And do you still have me as a donor in your records or whatever?

Yeah, I agree, it should work smoother. Something for Myrealms 2.0 ;) (or at least 1.5)

Yes, and it has been fixed.
Thanks Draddog for fixing the MyRealms section. I don't know about everyone else, but I use that section more than any other for team building and research. I appreciate the fix.

Okay, as I sort of promised, we have some editing turned back on. It won't ever be turned on in the trading forums, and if you check the Trading Forum, I have posted reasons why there. The only legitimate reason to edit a post is for spelling or grammar or a sudden realization to add something. I've also added a spell checker, which has worked really well on other sites. Enjoy!
