No, the stats/dial will be different from savage hulk; I betcha. (see wolverine mail in figure) It will be similar, but I'm betting a little cheaper than savage hulk with a slight rearrangement of abilities (or maybe the introduction of a different one - wolvie mail in has charge for 2 clicks before stealth whereas regular r/e/v one only had stealth)

Even if it is net stats, how different will they be from Savage Hulk? They can only do so many variations on a guy that doesn't have very many powers except "HULK SMASH!!" I suppose they could give him some kind of range attack to represent his Thunder Clap, but what else is there really?

Let's see (pulls his Savage Hulk out)?

Movement of 6 that tops out mid-dial at 8. Most of us can recall Hulk jumping somehwere in the distance of half a mile. And that is a leap/climb value. Will he ever get charge?Maybe on this model.

Abomination has Invulnerability for a click whereas Hulk has toughness and then gets IV later. Yes, they do juice Savage Hulk's dial up in the middle as he gets angry but the Abomination's dial is a little too close to Hulks.

Bottom line, hulk's dial could use some tweaking. Including making it fall off at the last click as he weakens and becomes human.

Anyone know what is on the cover of the June PSM? I just would like to have a better idea of what I am looking for.

Mr.Wrinkles
05/01/2003, 18:53
Just an idea, but they could give him pulse wave. I saw someone mention thunder clap and that just reminded me of warcraft 3 how that one dude has thunderclap. He stomps or bangs the ground and damages/stuns uniques around him. Does that sound stupid or could it actually work?

WarHULK

jay_of_titan
05/01/2003, 18:56
They could actually give the Hulk Charge. Better yet, BCF or RCE with a range of 1 for his Thunderclap. Or since his Clap his everyone, Pulsewave.

I am all for a mail in fig or something like that, but the face looks a bit retarded in the picture. I hope it looks better in real life.

JacinB
05/01/2003, 19:04
Is that the actual LE pictured there, or is it just an 'artist's rendition' while the LEs are being produced like they did with the Green Lantern LE. It looks pretty hokey, if you ask me.

I like it. :) I wonder if they'll ever do anymore Hulks with Defenders or Avengers team abilities? I think they should since they seem to be doing Hulks for every set. I like the fact its a different sculpt for the mail in, it should be. Heck we're paying $5 for it. :p I realize it's a hulk because of the movie but how about some mail ins of characters not in the sets? like Adam Warlock or something. Plus I'd like to see a Moondragon with a Defenders team affiliation.

MarkStewart
05/01/2003, 19:58
Let's hope the stats are different. I'd like to see them give him a fuller dial with only one click of knock out and add in some regeneration at the end like other Hulks have.

Actually, I have read some. What else can you tell me he should have. I figured the Thunder Clap would give him a range attack with something like Pulse Wave. Of course Pulse Wave would take away Super Strength, and who would want a Hulk without Super Strength. He needs L/C, though I agree, a Hulk with some Charge would be nice. What other already existing Heroclix power should he get that would be different from his previous versions?

KRoc
05/01/2003, 20:37
He's got to have new stats. just with the logistics of making a new sculpt it'd be a waste to not redo the stats even if it's not an overhaul. A sculpt takes time(probably weeks), the stats can be redone in a matter of minutes.

I think the most reasonable change would be a few clicks of charge. A Hulk that can move, pick up an object and attack on the same turn, can we say "Hell Yeah"?

After looking around the 'net, it appears that the July issue of PSM will be out about the second week of June (the June issue is due out May 13). They are also offering a free trial issue and it you order it now it just may be the July issue. Me, I'm hoping that this will be the hulk that will be able to stand up to Dark Side Superman, the current versions don't have a chance. He NEEDS an 11 click dial with some high numbers on it. He's the Hulk. ya know... Strongest one there is and all that...

The only problem with giving him Pulsewave is that they would have to give him a range (probably 4) which means that he would be able to pulse for 1 to everyone or hit someone for 4 or 5 at range...that doesn't sound like Hulk. I would give him L/C, then Charge, then L/C again, other than that, nothing much, maybe extra click of health, more regen...1 click of Bruce Banner followed by 10 clicks of I am Hulk you a meat pancake...Also heard a rumor of a LE Maestro figure coming up in an Inquest...dunno if it's true or not...

I like the new sculpt and I definitely want one (or two) but I'm a little confused as to what Playstation Magazine has to do with HeroClix. I mean if you're going to put mail away HeroClix offers in console magazines why not put it in a magazine that covers all of the recent systems instead of just one or even have the offer in a magazine for each of the recent gaming systems. I myself have an XBox and a subscription to XBox Magazine and I will probably buy this dumb PS2 magazine just to get the figure mail away but it kinda burns me that I'm not gonna get any information of value out of the magazine. At least if the mag covered just gaming in general then I would get something for the money I'm spending on the magazine. Oh well, such is the money pit that is HeroClix.

I think they should give Hulk a couple of clicks of Force Blast to represent his ability to throw his opponents, think about it, when his damage is up to 5 add in a force blast and watch out!!!! you can basically be gaureenteed of throwing someone into a wall or off elevated no matter where they are! PLUS it is automatic! What do yall think?

PSM is the best game mag out there. It's hillarious. Most of the staff from the old gaming mag "Game Players" works on it. That was the original irreverant and hillarious game mag. Anyway. It's worth the read, I love that mag. I've got all the PSM issues and most of the Game Players issues.

Hulk with force blast? Well, I supose it would be neat... but... when you have hulk with 5 damage would you rather push them away into a wall for 1 damage or off a building for 2 or would you rather just smash them into oblivion?... I think I'll take 5 damage with superstrength anyday... especially if it comes with charge... mwahahaha

Cartoony? It's straight out of the comic books! Jeez Louise, what a bunch of ingrates.

Tell you what: Sculpt your own Hulk. I'm sure it will look better than what the experts can do. Post your little blob of clay on the Artisan's Guild forum and accept the accolade of the rest of your paste-eating pals.

I can see many different possibilities for a new hulk..

Perhaps one with a very high movement rate to demonstrate his abjility to leap miles at a time.

Maby a "charging hulk"

A "professor hulk" with outwit

A hulk on the spiderman team

I even thought of a new team ability for hulk..

Hmm... But is it going to be available outside of the US? At least with the Wizard World offers, we've been able to get the figs eventually - but I don't see it happening outside North America.
Incidentally, go have a look at the magazine's site - they'll send you an issue free if you are in the US. So you don't have to moan about having to pay for it. And for that nugget of info, can someone please get one for me? :cheeky: I'll give you gold...

I have to say that I like your idea, Doc Strange. Leap/climb as the Hulk team ability would rule. The thought of Leap/climbing charge is extremely droolworthy...

I also like the sculpt alot. It seems to be extremely detailed. The face looks like the movie version of the Hulk... infact, if I remember correctly, that exact pose is shown somewhere in a trailer or promo picture from the movie... Perhaps this is the first ever clix based on the movie version of a character? Anyone official want to comment on this?

I'd also like to take this time to say how wonderful the Hulk video game is looking. We might get the first honestly good Hulk game ever.

The Hulk console game is coming out on both PS2 and XBox ... I'm not sure about Game Cube but it's probably going there too. I just don't get why WizKids would put a mail away offer in a console specific magazine unless they were going to put the same offer in a magazine for each console. I think the obviously better idea would be to put the offer in a magazine that covers all of the recent game systems. There are several good ones out there and some also cover computer games so you could even appeal to people that don't have a console gaming system but do have a computer. Also, picking a magazine with international distribution that coincides with where WizKids sells HeroClix would also be smart. I like the sculpt and love Hulk so I'll be picking up the magazine anyway, it just seems like not much thought went into the placement of this offer. For everyone without a PS2 it's just a total waist of money to buy the magazine, I could give it to my friend who has a PS2 but he also collects HeroClix so he'll be buying his own copy anyway.

Sorry to all you international folks. Maybe if I find a place with some extra copies I'll pick them up and sell them to you at cost.

Yes, absolutely, they should try to cash in on the Hulk movie. For those of you living under a rock for the last fifteen years, this is an unprecedented time in comic book history. We have never seen five super hero movies in one year (I'm counting both matrix movies), and three of them Marvel projects. For one year, maybe two, comics will be hip and cool and not relegated to paste-eaters and Ignatius P. Reilly lookalikes. The more people who see this stuff out there in a non-geeky, non-subjugated light, the better chance the comic book industry has of making a comeback from its marginalized, cottage industry status.

Like you aren't going to get one for yourself. Sheesh.

Not to nitpick, but Early Trimpe is pretty cool. Later, he was off his game, but early Trimpe is nice. It's just a little different from Ditko or Kirby. I've got some early Trimpe and there's nothing wrong with it.

This promotion, according to WizKids, is for the July issue which is due out in June. The June issue, hitting the stands on May 13 (according to PSM's own website) was completed back in mid-April. If the fig had been intended for that issue I think we would have heard of it before now and they would be pushing it on PSM's site.

I like the skupt. All raging and stuff. When Hulk gets more angry his appearance changes. This one looks ready to whomp and stomp. I want him for mey Secret Wars team and for my Spider-man & Amazing freinds set. They did have a super hero adventure hour featuring them both.

Just to let you in on a little secret all. Marvel is going to have a version of the Hulk game but not just for PS2.... But they will increase the sales for the PS2 magazine because people are purchasing it for the "clix offer" that do not normally purchase it, and Marvel and Wizkids will get some of the monies from the increased sales and PS2 will get more than usual during that month because of the increased sales so they all make more money.... Which would be the case even if the put the offer in a copy of a Mary-Kate and Ashley Magazine...... This shouldn't be hard to figure out.... Bwahahaha.....

Who knows, PSM may have just come to them and asked for it - or they have some friends cross-company. Either way, I have no use for the mag. I'll just get the coupon and ship the issue over to my little brother who's away at college. He'll enjoy it I'm sure.

I like this sculpt, it's more action oriented, and the kind of pose I want the Hulk to be in when I send him in to smash people. Maybe we'll get lucky, and he'll have charge, for once.

excellent, the more LE's we can mail away for the better. it helps to pass the time between sets. and all those people too cheap to buy a ps2 mag are really gonna miss out when they realize the only way to get it after will be to spend way more on ebay after the fact.

i like the sculpt. im glad to see it. good job wiz kids. the more mail ins the better, especially if there are new sculpts

now make a mail away multiple man with no limit to the order

You missed the point. It wasn't a sculpting challege for you, the person who likes how the figure looks. It's a challenge for them what has a problem with the figure. To me, it's the best pose to date for a Hulk figure.

That said, feel free to get all kinds of jiggy with your sculpting self. I have always thought that was the road for people who don't like the figures they have been given to play with.

Thanks. It comes from 25 years of having my hopes dashed to the rocks every time I get excited about a comic book property.

Hey, I hope you're right. My buddy Chris Roberson's company is publishing a companion to the comic book series, wherein all of the characters, places, and things, are referenced and annotated. I want it to do well, because it'll affect my collection down the line.

Hope is one thing. Tom Sawyer driving the Batmobile down the streets of 1890's London is quite another.

Trust me, i know. As a 33 year old gamer and comic fan at night, and 3D Graphics Designer during the day, I've seen my share of good and bad "reinterpretations".

Good: I highly enjoyed the TV version of the Hulk. In many ways, it took the character back to his roots, though as a variation on the Les Miserables story, however, rather than Jekyll and Hyde. For the less literate, in Les Miserables, our hero (Jean Valjean) was put in prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving family. Due to the fact that he had enormous reserves of strength when he really needed them (bending the iron bars of his prison window, overturning a full cart that had collapsed on a man), he escapes several times, until his sentence has extended to 17 years. He is finally released, and skips town, prompting Inspector Javert to begin hunting for him. Banner = Valjean, the reporter = Javert.

The bad:

Captain America. The 70's version and the late 80's/early 90's movie. At least the 70's version was muscular...

Fantastic Four movie: If you have not seen this monumental waste, consider yourself lucky.

The indifferent:

Nearly every comic book cartoon made in the 80's. Neither bad nor good, without much of the spark, but without horribly mangling too much in the eyes of a teenager.

Everybody seems to think this is a Savage Hulk LE, but that would go against a lot of normal WK "rules" That being 1 No LE's of uniques and 2 no new sculpts for LE's. That being said I'd bet anything we are seing the sculpof the new REV hulk from the next Marvel Expansion. Probably they are going the same route as they did with the DC Green Lantern LE and having a mail in offer well before the set comes out so the fig will arrive around the new sets release date or shortly after.

I just sent mine out today! 2 Hulks leaping their way to my mailbox! The address is in Cinncinati, so hopefully I'll get them sooner than the 8-20 weeks it says on the advertisement (I'm in cleveland). In case no one saw the other threads, it's PSM Magazine, #73 July. The cover is yellow, has a Computer-Generated chick in a racecar suit on the cover with a small stop-sign that says "exclusive Heroclix Hulk figure offer!" Hope that helps!

Just sent it out.

If you don't want to pony up the $9 for the mag you can always request a free one from the website. Of course you are not guaranteed to receive the right one.

My recommendation is to buy it, order two, sell the other one to a friend. That comes out to about $10 each. Pretty cheap unique!

BTW, the July issue has an add on the front that says it has the Hulk offer.

I just picked up the magazine with the offer. Nice looking sculpt. Looks like this Hulk is under 100 points though. The first digit for the points is definitely a 9, so unless it's 900, it's apparently going to be in the 90's.

Thanks for the help. I did buy the wrong magazine. Wizkids was calling it their Playstation Magazine offer, so I bought the Playstation mag with the Hulk on the cover. Well, so much for logic. So, I returned the mag to WalMart (they'll take anything back) and got the right one. So, I don't know how you think you can see the point value in that pic, but they mention him having Super Strength and Toughness, and being able to move higher and farther than other Hulks in the game. So, no Invulnerability? And, perhaps a better movement value with Leap/Climb, of course? Could be a very playable figure, especially in lower point games where Hulk usually eats up too many points.

I_Blame_You
06/12/2003, 14:12
Would HSS be out of the question for Hulk?

I recall an old comic where he fought Jack o' Hearts and Jack commented that, and I'm paraphrasing, he'd never known anything could move that fast.

Just curious...

Look between the legs next to the little notch on the backside of the figure. The first digit (the only one visible) is a 9. It's definitely not a 1, and the shape looks wrong to be a 2. I'm very much certain it's a 9.

Doctor Strange
06/13/2003, 02:44
Yeah, it looks like a nine.

From the descrition we have a high movement value, leap climb, toughness and superstrength.

Nightfall
06/25/2003, 11:58
I'd look a bit closer at the value. I'm pretty sure it is a 2 and not a 9. This makes a lot more sense since the other special-order figs are usually higher priced (think OWAW Superman, Green Lantern, Bezerker Wolverine). I'm guessing he might be slightly more crazy than Savage Hulk. I mean, who wants a wimpy version of the Hulk to promote the movie?

I say that it sucks that the Hulk figure is tied so strongly to a movie that was terrible.

Anyway, I can't wait to get my figure. I really really wanted to see a Hulk movie and I didn't get one. So as far as I'm concerned, the Hulk movie never happened. I'm looking forward to getting mine, too (just sent out the order), and am watching for the first signs that they're starting to arrive; I want to see the stats! I haven't dug out the ad and taken a magnifiying glass to it, but a 200+ Hulk makes far more sense than a 90-something pt one would.

(Following the digression on the movies:
Finally, providing it's taken as it's own set of characters and stories, I found Hulk to be a reasonably good movie. I didn't leave with the same disappointment I took away from that terrible, awful Daredevil movie. At least Hulk was mostly one person's vision, not the ugly collage-by-committee that Daredevil was. Comparing the titular characters in the movies, the Hulk showed greater morality and concern than Daredevil did!)

I think that anyone who expected a movie called "Hulk" to be the best movie of the summer deserves whatever disappointment they have inadvertantly cultivated. It's a movie about a guy who gets mad and bursts out of his clothes and throws tanks around.

Come on.

Considering how mixed the reviews were, I'd say that people who liked it went in with no preconceived notion and the people who hated it went in thinking it was going to be a certain way and were subsequently disappointed.

I agree with the first part but find the latter to be an oversimplification, and actually something that Ang Lee made sure it wasn't about.

Full agreement. I went in looking for a reasonably entertaining, reasonably internally-consistent movie and got it. I'm sure many were going to hate any Hulk movie that wasn't primarily concerned with: Showing Banner hunted, travelling incognito, being roughed up by plot devices at some truck stop until he transforms - cut to close-ups of terror in bullies' eyes - and throwing them around as he tears the place apart. Ang Lee decided to focus on elements of legacy and indentity more than anything else.

Did I come out thrilled with it? Certainly not. It's not the focus I would have given, and as most of the marketing focused on the expectation you embodied with "a guy who gets mad and bursts out of his clothes and throws tanks around" it probably wasn't the wisest course to take. Still, it was a sincere attempt at a thoughtful film.

I suspect the sequel will be a very different animal, leaning on an action angle. Perhaps someone attempting to duplicate the experiments - resulting in the Leader, who then turns around and creates the Abomination. (There was something about the name of the other scientist/tech who Banner saved from the gamma bombardment that at least reminded me of the human name of the Leader - Sam Sterns - but the quick check of cast lists doesn't show me the character by name.) If they present a big enough menace, and one that Bruce feels inadvertently responsible for, it could be enough to draw him out of hiding.

bizarrome
07/03/2003, 14:24
Yes they get an initial count, run a small percentage over for the late ones and when thye get them they ship them out. Only those early late one get in with the counted people and the rest get their monies returned after the company sponsering the mail order holds their monies with the rest of ours and gets several months of added interst.
