Who is your favorite superhero from the Dc universe?
I would have to make my list like this
Sandman
Batman
The Spectre (Jim Corrigan, not Hal Jordan)
Impulse
Green Lantern (All of the human ones, except Guy Gardner)
For some reason I never really like Superman
Tough call bewteen Green Arrow (Ollie) and Starman (Jack Knight)
I'd probably have to say Jack by a whisker.
Here are my favorite DC Heroes...
1.) BATMAN (Bruce Wayne...Forever my favorite)
2.) GREEN LANTERN (the one, the only...Hal Jordan (sorry Alan))
3.) THE FLASH (Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, and Wally West)
4.) GREEN ARROW (Oliver Queen, not his whiney @$$, brat kid Connor Hawke)
5.) NIGHTWING (#### Grayson a.k.a Batman Jr.)
So I gotta thing for dead guys...BIG DEAL.
P.S. Honorable (or should I say DISHONORABLE) Mention; LOBO (Every loves the Main Man)

My top five DC superheroes:
5: Hawkman (Carter Hall)
4: Aquaman
3: Martian Manhunter
2: Batman
1: Superman
Honourable mention, Green Arrow (Oliver Queen); the more I read about this guy, the more I like him.
Long live the JLA powerhouses!! :p
Batman - the rest are just to god like to be interesting.

Batman, Bruce Wayne Of course.
Martian Manhunter second.

05/13/2003, 00:54
Sandman, Wesley Dodds
Hawkman, Carter Hall
Starman, Jack Knight
Wonder Girl, Donna Troy (even though i'm betting she's gonna die in the next 30 days)
and.......
The Flash/ Kid Flash, Wally West
1. Green Arrow. Ollie has been my favorite hero since I was 6 years old... I had an old Justice League comic where he was the chairman: it was neat to see him ordering Supes and Diana around... my cousin had the butt-kicking Mego figure (envy, envy).
2. Hawkman. The current book just plain ROCKS.
3. Aquaman. Not 100% sold on the new title, but it's growing on me. Gimmie some retro Arthur Curry!
4. Superman. The One. The Only. The Original.
5. Plastic Man. The ultimate in Comedy Relief (TM, PAT. PEND.).
Flash all of em
batman who doesnt love the dark knight.
Green lantern Hal jordan
Plastic man
Green arrow
honorable mention supes.

1. Superman

1 - The John Byrne's Superman
2 - The Kingdom Come Superman
3- The Golden Age Superman (in Crisis)
4 - The silver Age Superman (JL Member)
5 - The Crhistopher Reve Superman
Mmmmm, I think maybe Superman is my favority Hero in DC ;)
Does Grifter count? Since Wildstorm is a psuedo-subsidiary of DC COmics now.
hm...
i've always been fond of aquaman, simply because he's one of the only guys who can protect 3/4ths of the world from pollution, super villains, and megalomaniacs.
i also like plastic man, for his humorous comic relief, yet total heroic determination.
green lantern of course comes into play, mainly hal, but i dont think kyle gets enough credit.
martain manhunter/bloodwynd (i used to prefur bloodwynd before i learned that it was j'onn.)
batman is just classic. can't forget him.
same with superman.
and i just can't resist any story with (belive it or not) wildcat on the cover. he just seems to be kind of a poor man's batman, but his stories are slightly more realistic.
and the entire young justice team is irrisistable. superboy, impulse, slobo, the ray, the whole gang.
so, i cant pick one. just...too...many!

4. Captain Marvel
5. Flash (jay or wally)
batman would be the last (like #7000) I hate him the worst charachter in comics
also i love superman and the reason that he is not #1 is that i view him in a higher stature the "superhero" I idolize him he IS my hero, just so y'all know

Thats okay Metzgarob you can dislike Batman that's okay, because I have never really been a big fan of Superman. I am not a fan of goody twoshoes boyscouts. I like characters that have more edge and are darker. So it is okay that you don't like Batman.

Superman of course, to say otherwise is unamerican. He truly defines the word super hero, and am not talking about super powers here but the strength of his character. Sure if you leveled the playing field there may be better fighters than the man of steel but when it comes to saving lives, and doing whats right, no one comes close to supes. He truly is an inspiration for all.
I also like Sentinel, and the silver age batman, I can't get into this new batman however. I also loved the original legion of superheroes none of this clone stuff either.
Have a happy all BJ.
Oh Batman without a doubt.
It helps to have a great Rogue's Gallery; I wish they do more of that for Aquaman, Superman, and Green Lantern.

Joint First - Superman & Batman. I really couldn't pick between the two. They are both so iconic in completely different ways. Andprobably my favourite thing of all is the relationship between the two.
Big, big gap, then:
3. Flash (Wally) - I love Wally.
4. Aquaman Peter David days.
5. I wanna say GL (Kyle), but I can't. KGBeast. Don't ask me why, but I LOVE that big Russian killing machine. He rules. I want a clix of him, pronto.
Honourable mentions to Kyle J'onn, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Darkseid. and also Luthor. Best villain in the biz.
1 green lantern (hal jordan)
the greatest super hero and coolest costume in comics ( yes, better than spideys)
2 aguaman
3 martian manhunter (to bad hes never been explored by a talented writer

armand,
Did you read the Martian Manhunter series? The one written by John Ostrander. Personally I consider John Ostrander to be one of the best writers in comics. I think his style is perfectly suited to the way I have always envisioned the Martian Manhunter.
never read it, ill pick it up. i was talking about his run on jla.
AI'm not really much of a dc kid. But last summer I fell in love with swamp thing. He is one cool fellow. Also you got to love Lobo. He killed santa.

Captain Marvel. 'Nuff said.
Yes, I am the one guy who read Thriller. Here is where all of you who didn't read it will stone me. It was better than The Watchmen. Go to the quarter boxes at your next convention and find the book that predated Vertigo, Morrison's Doom Patrol and yes, Watchmen. A book before it's time. Robert Loren Fleming's writing, and Von Eeden's stop motion film panels. PURE MAGIC.

My big 5, in no particular order:
Swamp Thing
Martian Manhunter
Steel
Animal Man
Aquaman
If I were to extend this to a big 10, it would include a lot of the others we've been seeing on the other lists:
Flash
Hawkman
Batman
Green Arrow
Superman
Kid Zero
05/29/2003, 04:04
Manhunter, Mark Shaw
Captain Atom, before they got dumb with the entire elemental thing
Alan Scott, the Real Green Lantern
The Guardian
Forager from the Original New Gods
Kid Zero
05/29/2003, 04:08
While I liked what I saw of Thriller, it really didn't seem to me to be as good as Watchmen. I did like the scene where Salvo shot his way into the train car, by shooting a hole in the roof and then shot off Scabbard's arm, tho'. One of the more interesting moments in comics history.

spiderman all the way!! Oh wait wrong place. I really wonder woman she is very cool. By the way I think batman is over rated. He is still very cool, buff and so on but people just say he is the end all super hero most of the time that is what sort of bugs me about him.
Top 5
5:Nitewing
4:Batman
3:Jon Stewart GL
2:Flash (Barry Allen)
1:Doomsday
Superman. He is the first and greatest hero of all. As the Crash Test Dummies said he could break through any bank in the United States but he doesn't. Godlike powers and decency. I collected Superman for ten years, buying everything. Then they did that ^$#^$# energy being Blue Superman story. I cannot forgive them. And I cannot buy Superman.
Runners Up
1. Martian Manhunter
2. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold (they are a fave as a team)
3. Hitman (and Six Pack)
4. Guy Gardner - Lobo (tie)
5. Ambush Bug, Heckler (tie)
I am also fond of Flash (Barry Allen), Etrigan, Dr. Fate, Batman, Plastic Man, Orion, Green Arrow, Metamorpho, Starman (Jack), the entire JSA, Matter Eater Lad of the Legion
My favourite villains are Darkseid, Mordru, Brainiac (not 13 though), Vandal Savage and Culp
1. Hawkman (Carter Hall)
2. Martian Manhunter
3. Superman
4. Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)

2. Dr. Mid-Nite I (Dr. Charles McNider)
3. Flash (silver age)
4. Dr. Fate
5. The Sandman (Wesley Bernard Dodds)
Oh wait...
Can I switch Superman for Captain Comet and The Bicentennial Kid for Dr. Fate and Batman for Dr. Mid-Nite and Silver Age Atom for The Sandman and Plastic Man for Flash...NO Switch Human Bomb for Batman and Firebrand for Superman and Hawkman for Plastic Man and Green Lantern for Atom and Green Arrow for Bicentennial Kid and Hourman for Batman... Wait a minute, I already switched out Batman... So put Hourman in Green Arrow's place and Mr. Terrific in Green Lantern's place and Deadman in Hawkman's place and Red Tornado in for Green Arrow's place and put Power Girl in for Miss America (have I used Miss America yet?)... Hey how many slots does the entire Metal Men take up?
Oh heck, I give up.
I love em all the best on different days!!!
Truth be told, I’m a little depressed by the small lists of characters I’m seeing above. It seems to me that there are many comic book lovers out there (Marvel and DC) that need to broaden their view a bit.

Big Soph, you CAN buy Superman again. The whole red and blue energy Superman story has been done for years and hasn't shown its face since "Our World's at War" and it should be the last you'll see of it. Superman is Superman again and is totally safe to pick up. So go on and forgive, its what Superman would do:)
And speaking of Superman here's my top 5 DC favorites:
1) Superman: I read in a Wizard something like anyone could have been the first comic book superhero. But making comics into what they've become and showing what a superhero should be, that was a job for Superman!
2) Nightwing: He's just cool, like Batman but with a sense of humor ("want to see my Flash impression...want to see it again?" Great stuff!) Combine that with excellent detective skills, great martial arts abilities and better gymnastic ability than Batman himself (it has been documented and he's from a circus, what'd you expect) you have one really great character!
3) Flash (Wally West): The first issue of Flash I picked up with Wally as the Flash I bought because he was "dead". I was so hoping for him to really be dead and for Barry to come back. Since then we've seen Wally grow to be a great hero in his own right and prove more than worthy of the mantle of the Scarlett Speedster. Because he's such a great character I had to hunt down back issues until I had the entire series with Wally as the Flash.
4) Hawk & Dove (yes that's right I said Hawk & Dove) Hank Hall and Dawn Marie Granger: I thought the concept was very cool that they represented order and chaos and did not know if the feelings they had for each other were real, or just because of the beings they got their powers from. I'm very happy to see Dove in the land of the living again in current issues of JSA, and it seems Hawk will regain his heroic status since Geoff Johns (writer of JSA and upcoming Teen Titans) stated Hawk and Dove as characters to be showing up in Teen Titans by the end of the book's 1st year!
5) Captain Marvel: Here's another character with so much potential and it is great to see him being developed more in JSA. I'd love to see a new series with him but this time keep the talking tiger and the bunny out of it.
If I were to continue the list I'd have to have Batman, Martian Manhunter, Captain Atom, and Firestorm on there too. But I've rambled on for too long now so I won't get into them right now.:)

Flash (Wally West) is my favorite.
Recently, I really have begun to like Firestorm in the JLA comics. He has cool powers and is a very funny character even though he doesn't realize it.
On a side note, 'JLA: Welcome to the Working Week' is a funny and interesting read by Patton Oswalt.

5. The Legion of Superheroes (I can't narrow it down) - THIS is the dynamic the X-Men should have. They don't always trust ther leadership, they don't always like eachother, and they are all interesting in their own way. If I had to pick, I'd say it's a tie betwwen Cos and Brainiac 5.
4. Green Arrow - The more disruptive he gets, the more I like him. Of all of them, he's the guy that would buy a round for the bar and hit on women 20 years younger than himself You gotta love Ollie.
3.Black Canary -One of the most underestimated characters in the DCU. She is gold to every book she's in.
2. Nightwing - Grayson is more than the sum of his parts even if he's kinda the anti-...
1. Arsenal - Without a doubt my absolute favorite of all time. The guy's has been through more in the DCU than most Marvel heroes go through. He was a cocky kid, a drug addict, a cop, a spy, a single dad, an elder statesmen to the Titans, an Outsider, and god knows what now. The guy is everything you could ask for in a human character, and everything in his life has been interesting. And above it all, he's still maintained his status as a hero. The best the Titans have ever produced, and aguy that truly got out of his mentor's shadow.
My Fave Hero would be General Zod. The real deal one, last seen in "For Tomorrow". Now THAT is a hero one can look up to.

I'll admit to not knowing much about DC, hence why Batman and Superman are the obvious top two. I haven't read much Green Lantern but Emerald Dawn was awesome. I don't really like Wonder Woman but from the Titans that I've read WOnder Girl seems cool.

Wow, talk about bringing something back from the depths of hell!
For me:
Superman, who despite what people say is NOT too God-Like to be interesting. I think it's a cop-out lie, that's been spewed over and over, and just becomes the mantra of people who don't know better. He is the original and the best. He's everything every other hero strives to be like, and somehow falls short.

It has to be Superman. I never used to like the guy, like many people I thought he was too godlike, but now I think he isn't powerful enough! He should embody everything we aspire to be as humans, his powers are cool but its his soul that is truly superhuman. Its made much more interesting because he's an alien, he strives so hard to be human something that we all take for granted. I guess I have high expectations for him but thats what he should mean to me.
Oh, and Batman's pretty cool too.

Just about every hero created by Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko.
But Dr. Fate rocks pretty hard.
This is going to sound totally lame, but I liked Azrael both pre & post Knightfall-Knightsend. The concept of a hero gaining his abilities through post hypnotic suggestion is too cool. He's been subconsciously prepared for almost any situation and has no idea about his own potential.
Wow, talk about bringing something back from the depths of hell!

Here's my top 5 and reasons:
1.) Green Lantern Corps. Characters (Guy, Hal, John, even G'nort): The first superhero characters that really appealled to me as a kid. I loved how they played off each other, I loved the villians they faced, and I loved the fact that GL embodied the power of perserverence and will. I was so mad when Hal went crazy and stopped reading comics for awhile.
2.) Batman (Bruce Wayne): Talk about will and perserverence, the man trained his body and mind relentlessly so that he could fight the baddies of Gotham. Plus he's got the cool gear! Bruce Timm's animated series rocked!
3.) Ambush Bug: I don't know if good old Irwin Schwab should count on here, but man those are some of the funniest stories I have ever read. Keith Giffen is briiliant.
4.) Demon Etrigan/Jason Blood: Fun stories back in the early 90's when I was really into comics. Plays on the whole "duality of man" thing.
5.) Superman: The ultimate immigrant (an alien among men) trying live up and stand for the ideals that we should all strive for! Another Bruce Timm masterpiece on TV.
1. Green Arrow
2. Guy Gardner
3. JSA (all of them as a whole)
4. Damage
5. Captain Atom
6. The Monolith
7. Manhunter (Kate Spencer)
8. Black Canary
9. Robin (current)
10. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
Batman is not on my list because he is too obvious. He would probably fall between Green Arrow and Guy Gardner.
Superman is not on my list because I don't like him. I have never liked the character because he is just too powerful and it makes him look like an idiot when a villian beats on him and then he "remembers" he's Superman and beats him. I did like the One Year Later stoy when he didn't have powers and was still figuring out ways to get the job done. That shows intelligence and I am hoping it continues now that he has them back. It won't make him my favorite but it will help his rep with me.

*double-checks* Yep. Still Cosmic Boy (hey, if it hasn't changed in 30 years there's no reason to start now. :) )
However, for the sake of fairness here are a few characters that I 'geek out' when I see them getting some good "screen time" (which means I'm not including big guns - even ones I really like such as Superman - because they're usually easy enough to find)
*Dr. Mid-Nite (either one)
*Jonah Hex
*Cameron Chase
*Doc Magnus and the Metal Men
*Dr. Thirteen
*John Constantine (okay, he's cheating my rules a bit but that's John :) )
*Elongated Man
*Chemo (yeah, he has no "personality" but I never miss a Chemo issue)
Blue Beetle,
Captain Atom,
Hawkman,
Vigilante,
Warlord,
Wonder Woman
which Blue Beetle?
Heck, which Hawkman?
so many to choose from, no?
The Dark Knight, closely followed by Mister Miracle and Orion (but is he really a hero ?)
And I some how forgot Aquaman!
He's rather easy to forget. It's like when a friend of mine asked me who the stars were of the old Super Friends cartoon, I had missed only one person. Guess who?
Anyone ever see the South Park episode with the "Super Best Friends" group and the one guy there called "Sea Man". Now that was a laugh.

3) Dr. Mid-Nite
4) Rick Tyler - Hourman
5) Nightwing/Red Robin
6) Aquaman
i can't wait to see what they do w/ Aresenal/Red Arrow in JLoA!
Does Grifter count? Since Wildstorm is a psuedo-subsidiary of DC COmics now.
I'm going to change my vote to:
1) The Batman
2) Grifter
3) Superman
4) All the JSA men

I find Superman too iconic not to love, but I haven't ever really been blown away by Superman stories. I think he really should take up the leadership position of all heros in the DC universe. I loved his role in Kingdom Come.
Batman is too typical of an answer, but Batman has had consistantly great stories that I have enjoyed reading.
Batman will get my vote for my favorite DC hero.
I think I'll go with Captain Marvel aka Billy Batson.
On the villain side, it would be the Earth-1 Luthor.
Jack Knight.
Tenzil Kem.
Barbara Gordon.
Courtney Whitmore.
Irwin Schwab.

The answer is very simple.
Captain Marvel
The one who says "SHAZAM!"
Not Freddy.
Or when Mary called herself by that name.
I'm talking about Billy.
So yes, Captain Marvel.
1)Robin(Tim Drake)
2)Batman
3)Kyle Rayner
4)Green Arrow(Just think all archers are cool!)
Not the biggest DC fan, but these 4 are just so awesome!

My favorite would have to be Nightwing a.k.a. Dick Grayson.
When I was first introduced to comics I was a Robin fan. Robin at the time was Dick Grayson. When he grew up and became Nightwing I still consider him as my favorite DC hero.
A close 2nd would have to be Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson's version),
with Batman and GL-Hal probably tied for 3rd.
As far as the female DC heroes go. I would probably put Power Girl first, followed by Huntress and Black Canary.
But since we are to choose only are favorite DC hero, then it has to be Nightwing.

1. Green Arrow
Only Ollie would get onto Aquaman about not holding presidential elections in atlantis
2. Speedy
Pleeeeease don't let titans get a new writer and kill her off just because she has AIDS
3. Batman
Ultimate badass and yet he never takes a life. I like Supes, I really do, but I love how Batman with no powers wins in every battle that takes place between the two
4. Kid Flash
You gotta appreciate how hard he tries to live up to the name of kid flash, plus hes so ADD that hes always doing something funny "I have a confession to make, too...I ran out of clean underwear so I stole some of Beast Boy's"
5. Robin
Tim is just plain awesome. Wondergirl: "You lied to Starfire?!?"
Robin: "I lie to Batman :)"
The Question
The Demon Etrigan/Jason Blood
Captain Marvel aka Shazam
Alan Scott Green Lantern
Jay Garrick Flash
Power Girl
Etrigan ftw!

It's hard to pick just a few but I like most of the mystical characters.
5) Hal Jordan tie with Lobo - early one written by Griffen in JLA
4) Etrigan - gotta like his sceemes
3) Dr. Fate - interested how the new one will be
2) Darkseid - great character, not used well by DC though
1) Spectre- Corrigan
