Anybody remember Nightcrawler maps from last fall? There's a new site that's started posting new nightcrawler maps for download. It's called the HeroClix Playa (http://www.mtgamersguild.com) and they've just started putting them up. So far there's a new series of nighttime city rooftop scenes, that when placed together, can form one huge 3X map! They're also legal size, and plans are to put up new maps on a regular basis.

To get there, enter the mtgg website, click on the HeroClix link, click Resources from the top tab menu, and find Custom Maps on the left nav. The interactive thumbnails show you the exact tile you're downloading, and there's instruction for assembly.

Check it Out! (http://www.mtgamersguild.com)

Very happy to see that you are back!
Your maps are the best I've found yet, honestly...
Will you put new ones regularly online? (I think there were some of yours that you didn't put here at that time that were called no. 6 & 7... are these planned to be put there too?)

I've updated the site again with 2 more new maps. One's an outdoor "Badlands" terrrain, with rough, rocky mountainous elevations, and dry lake areas that can used as water terrain, or even as a lower elevations. MW players should love it.

The second map is inspired by the new green lantern figures from Cosmic Justice, and is a "special" sort of outdoor terrain: it's outer space! STay on the Lantern-made trails or end up lost in the vacuum of space! There's even space junk floating around as blocking terrain.

Check'em out!

I really like the lantern's domain map. I can't wait to play on it. Just have to get home to download and print it out.

What is the best way to print these maps out? I have a color printer at home, but it only does 8.5X11. I saw the instructions on the site for printing, but I didn't know if there was a certain type of paper or card stock you recommended printing these things on. Basically, I was just interested in your printing process and if you could detail what that is a little that would be most helpful.

Very awesome maps!

I downloaded the Green Lantern and the Outdoor ones, but had a bit of a problem getting tile01 of the Office map...

The error message is: "The image “http://www.mtgamersguild.com/HeroClixPlaya/HCPResources/maps/officeA/tile01.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."

Does anyone else have the same problem, or am I just high on plastic crack?

Thanks!

Sorry for the Office map problem-- that file should be fixed now. Also, the page these thumbnails are on has been tidied up and should appear a little cleaner than before.

To answer the printing question: These files are sliced apart to fit on 11x17inch paper (tabloid size). If your printer won't print that large, each file can be sliced in half with any image editing program (I like Photoshop best) and printed to 8.5x11 regular size paper. The maps are completely done in Photoshop -- I've worked with it since version 1. I usually use a glue stick to attach the tiles, then tape the seams along the back. Once all the tiles are together, I'll use packing tape along all edges to attach it to a 3'x3' piece of Eukaboard (from Home Depot -- 2 for $6). I am a judge and I have all my maps at my venue -- my players enjoy them very much.

If I could find someone with access to a large format printer, I could produce the full, nonsliced version of these maps, so that they could be printed uncut on a single sheet, as originally intended. Anyone interested can PM me.

The name of the site is the HeroClix Playa. The maps are in the resources section, but I'm going to move them soon so they'll be easier to reach. Here's an easier link:

kinkos have a feature that you can email these jpegs to them with an attached orderform they email you and they will print these on gloss 11x17( like they are formated) for about $1.50 a sheet, I made each of these maps for less that $15 each on foamcore and the guys at the clix club eat them up!!! and its great printing versus eating up my ink at home. no comparison the the quality of home and Kinkos. I will send any and all maps via email to Kinkos from now on.
email get a price and they call when it ready, go in pay, trim on their paper cutter and take home to adhear to foamcore, done! about 2 hours total!!!!!
great job Kurt! keep them coming!!!

That's great info, 006! Also, instead of using a glue stick you can find aerosol spray glue at any craft store - it's usually called 'workable fixative' and does wonders. If you can't afford quantities of foamcore or are looking for a smaller alternative, you can also glue your map print outs onto comic backing boards - packs of 100 are 5.99 or less most places.

Another question about the Kinko's deal. Could you also have those laminated together once they are printed, so as to avoid the need to put it on foam core? Just curious. Still, its a great idea.

I'm having trouble with the site. Is it down or is it being blocked at my end?

OK, let's put this to bed. The site is down, it's going to stay down. The maps are no longer available.

If I can, I may repost the maps to a new site in the future. If I do, I'll post a message on this forum.

But this site is no longer running. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kurt, Not knowing how these things work, what are some of the reasons a site like where your maps were would stay up or come down? I understand if it's something you can't or don't want to discuss. I'm just curious.

By the way, I loved the maps. I admire people of great artistic skill.
