I'm just wondering what people think of Ultimates, such as X-Men, Spider-man.
I just got into comics because of you guys and Heroclix.
I just grabbed issues 40 & 41 of Ultimate Spidey.
Anyone think Ultimates is a good place for me to start?
I was a large fan of X-Men and Spider-Man TAS when I was younger, so I know quite a bit about them.

Mark Millar, for all his Anti-American rhetoric is a #### good writer. And he nails Tony Stark on the head. If only he wrote the regular Iron Man series.

I read Ultimate X-Men monthly and The Ultimates whenever it comes out. I just wait for Ultimate Spider-Man to come out in tpb form.
The Ultimates Rock!
I also read Spider-Man. Not X-Men as I have a fixed (VERY) income so gotta be selective.
If you want to, you can get the Ultimates TPB, costs around 12 bucks and reprints issues 1-6 Of the Series. It's a worth reading stroy. You Won't believe Issue 5!!!!!!!
Also, Check around the Spider-Man TPBs. Right Now there are 5 volumes. All excellent IMHO.
Anybody seen Ultimates 10????
Dammit! That ending is puzzling me too #### much!!!!!!!
How? I mean, HOW will they get away with this one??????

I've seen Ultimates #10, and I have to agree with you there Hadez. Anyway, has anyone heard anything about Ultimate Fantastic Four? I've heard that it was being planned, but nothing else. Oh, well.

I just don't want to wait another three months to find out. The Ultimates is one of the best books out there and i'm always gonna be a fan but i hate waiting so long for the new issues.
Yes, It is a very late book.
And some poeple said that Grant Morrison was approached to write the Ult. F4. But he's now on X-Men, so................Who knows?

All the Ultimates are a pretty good read.
The Ultimates is good - and it comes out every other month. So if you want to save some bones it's a great one to get - you just have to be patient. Also they are only up to issue 11 I think - so you haven't missed much.
Ultimate X-men seems to come out every other week. What I liked about it when I was getting it (I missed going for a couple of months and it seemed to take off) was it captured what was fun to read in the Uncanny X-men before it started to suck.
Ultimate Spidey - see Ultimate X-men.
Wow. That's a LONG time from now.
*****SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ ANYTHING******
My favorite Moment on The Ultimates was When The Hulk teared the team apart, seconded only by the only way to distract the Big Gray man as Nick Fury Says it: Wasp's "Mardi Gra Special"
Ultimates. Gotta love'em!

Can't forget this exchange between Quicksilver and Magneto:
"Father, how can Xavier still be alive? Why hasn't Wolverine killed him?"
"You know the Wolverine. If it takes him this long to finish a job.....their's probably a woman he's trying to get into bed."
I paraphrased, but you get the idea. I love Ult Xmen. It made me like Cyclops, and I have always HATED him. I can't say the actual quote, cause it got me in trouble last time. :P
Yes, that moment was memorable!
And Wolverine DOES do something in Washington with a certain X-Men Member...............................................
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hadez:
I read something about them calling off the Ultimate FF because they got Mark Waid and Weiringo on the regular title. Guess they didn't want to hurt the chances of making the regular FF title a hit again.
Yeah, Bummer.
Well, we will have June's Ultimate Crossover in X-Men: Spider-Man & Wolverine. Guests: Daredevil& Black widow.
On a side note, Daredevil is really harsh on Peter. You can see thsi in Ultimate Team-up 7 & 8 and the Special.

well i've been reading the Ultimate series & Ultimate X-men..
What's really hillarious was when the blob was posing as a girl on the net, chatting with Beast and calling it an "investigation"....
Do'h, i'm gonna have to get my hands on that 10th issue.

I like Ultimates and Ultimate Spiderman but am not all that into Ultimate X-men ..... I just feel they're too many alternate versions of the X-men already
AoA X-men
X-men Evolution
Movie X-men
Days of Future's Past X-men
New X-men
Uncanny X-men
Extreme X-men
X-men Unlimited
Every concievable X-men twist in the Exiles
What if X-men
Mutant X X-men
X-men Manga Ronin or whatever the hell it's called
oh and of course Ultimate X-men ...... ZZZZZZZZZZZ
I like the X-men but how many variations do you really need for you becomen sick of the whole thing.
I do agree there are a lot of X-Books out there, but the truth is they are out there because a lot of people are buying them. I'm guilty. Up to a few years back I collected them all, until I went on strike. They cancelled my Punisher, which had better art and writing.
I think Ultimate is a great idea, especially for new readers. I also think Ultimate Spider-Man is the best Spider-book in years.
Now if J. Michael Strazinski does do Dr. Strange, it should be done as an Ultimate book.
YOU SHUOLD GET STARTED WITH THE ORGINIAL MARVEL SPIDERMAN, AVENGERS AND XMEN. THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE IS LIKE A WHAT IF OR POSSIBLE DIFFERENT UNIVERSE ALL TOGETHER.LIKE IN AMAZING SPIDERMAN GWEN STACY IS PETER'S GIRL FRIEND BEFORE MARY JANE. AND THERE IS ALOT OF OTHER DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM. IN THE NORMAL MARVEL UNI. WASP ISN'T A SLUT LIKE IN THE ULTIMATES.
ALL IN ALL THEIR A BETTER BUNCH OF SERIES THAN SOME THAT MARVEL CAME UP WITH IN THE PAST. BUT NOT A GOOD JUMP ON POINT TO START.

I'd definitly say the Ultimate books are a good place to start. They all are not to far along to just pop into the tory line, get a couple of TPB, and figure out whats goin on. I uy The Ultimates and Ultimate Spiderman, and love both of htem. I've also read alot of the Ult. X-Men as my friend gets it and its good too. But as someone mentioned, it is more of an Universe in itself, as it changed the story of alot of the characters. But I don't think its a bad thing, just made the characters fresh, and a little more suprising, though I knew MJ wasn't gonna stay dead:P
They are apples and oranges. I find I can enjoy both. What I don't like, I just don't read. The reason I love Ultimate Spidey the most is with my budget, it's just one book. I'm like an addict. When I was buying the original universe Spidey books, I found I couldn't buy just one, even though there were no crossovers. I love Paul Jenkins' writing, but I had to go cold turkey. If you get the chance, read his Hellblazer run. Strangely, I find I can buy Xtreme X-Men and Wolverine and leave the rest.

I used to be heavier into comics when I was younger, but HeroClix got me back into them. I can't stop reading Ultimate Spider-Man. Everything about the series is great from the artwork to the story to the character development. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet.
I'll admit I haven't read past issue seven on Ultimates, but I'm a little hazy on "The Wasp is slut." comment. It seemed to me she is with Cap because her husband beats her. Being the psycho he is in both continuities. All women should leave men who beat them. Am I missing something here?

What are the TPB's?
I believe they are the harder cover Paperback Books. How many issues does each one have?
I got Ultimate Spiderman #1 from Free Comic Book Day earlier last month.
Also, I think a Cross-Over is happening in Ultimate Spiderman for anyone who's read Issue #42.
[SPOILER]
"We'd like to talk to you. We're the X-Men."(Marvel Girl/Jean)
"The cute ones!"(Shadowcat)
"As seen on TV"(Storm)
Spidey: "Told you you were a mutant!"
The First Ultimates TPB collects Issues 1-6.
The Ultimate Spider-Man ones collect seven issues each. There are 5 already Out.
And yes, TPB are the trade paperbacks.
I've read all the ultimate books since its started, I have a complete set of them all:)
Ultimates: ####! i haven't read a book quite like this!
Ultimate spiderman: very down to eart, Bendis creates a great balance between being a superhero and a teenager:) and there's even a "the six" limited series coming this august I think It features the sinister six fo whom the lineup isn't reveled yet facing spiderman and the ultimates:)
Ultimate X-men: strted out very strong for me, but I was a bit dissapointed with the return of the king and ultimate war storyline, it seem that it was rushed, like mark millar can't wait to end his run and the ultimates appear in the xmens book but the xmen doesnt appear in the ultimates book, hmmmmm, not to mention the changing of artist. and Professor X's cat is Mystique?!?!?! I tot millar was gonna clear this up before his run ended, oh well as I say it was rushed:)
add only a Ultimate daredevil regular series, and an Ultimate fantastic four and it would be a perfect universe, just a thought:classic:
When did the Ultimates appear in Ultimate X-Men? It wasn't during return of the King....
ultimate x-men # 33:) the last part of return of the king:) and they were always mentioned by magneto and nick fury was always around:)
Actually, I think I am ready for Ultimate Nick Fury to ride on with SHIELD. I think Millar would be interested in that for a long time.
Also the first issue of Return of the King has Nick Fury talking to Professor X in camp X Factor.
Yeah, but Fury has been around since way before the Ultimates....that doesn't count. And I read the last part of Return of the King. No Ultimates. Sure, it's a better book, but it isn't a conspiracy by Millar to have them in everything. So far they have (as a group) only shown up in Ultimate Adventures (also better than Ultimate X-Men).
Umm, yeah, when Xavier gets wheeled out of Magneto's cell Captain America and Nick Fury are walking in.

Sol
Nick Fury has appeared prominently in Ultimate Spiderman and Wasp recently made an appearance where she treated Peter's wounds from a battle that he could not seek medical attention for.
Everyone showed up for the Spiderman super Special. Of there is also teampu which to my memory showed us team ups that included: Black widow/Spidey, Ironman/Spidey, Hulk/Spidey ..... Dont think we saw the pyms or Thor at that point so ca'nt really say. In any case Logan and Spider team up for a x-men/Spidey story arc starting this week I think.
Yeah, Ontap (can I call you that?). I know of the Wasp's appearance and Iron Man when he beat up Rhino in Ultimate Spider-Man. I must have missed the panel in Ultimate X-Men with Cap. Fury has been arond since the beginning and I know about Widow, IM and Hulk in Team Up. My reference was as a group.
I never heard of the Spider-Man super special (will find, though).

yeah sol. We seem to run into each other enough on these board and all. You can call me Ontap :) ot T. it's short for Terrence
Just a thought, Proffesor X's cat is named mystique?!?! hmmm, there seems to be a back story that millar didn't resolve, or was just that a coincidence? Something to make us think?
I'm also wondering when they're gonna get the ultimate FF4 out already, there have been many issues wherein Latveria was mentioned, especially in the Spiderman and teamup books.]
Lastly, I read this in the wizard Ultimate magazine special, Millar and Bendis said that evrything happening in this universe is all leading up to one very big event, and from the clues that were always given, there really is. I guess they're reserving it when the Ultimate lines starting to dry up. They said it'll only happen about 2-3 years from now:)
In the Ultimate special, Spidey meets Ult. Balde, Ult. elektra and has a F4 encounter. It also gives you art by very talented pencilers and the superb Benids script as always.
Go find it!
It's worth it!
I think they're waiting a few years so they can totaly drive the series into the ground and redo the whole thing to keep modernized.
Just a thought.
"Millar and Bendis said that evrything happening in this universe is all leading up to one very big event"
I'm pretty sure that big event was the Ultimate War, which already happened.

I enjoy the Ultimate line as well. For those of you who enjoy Ultimate Spider-man, I would also recommend you pick up the trades for Amazing Spider-man with J. Michael Straczinski (sp?) That is some really great spider-man stuff, and its unlike anything we've read in spider-man before. And the dialog is just top notch, right up there with Bendis and the like. Not to take away from the Ultimate thread, just thought I'd throw that one in there since I like it so much. There are 4 trades out now of JMS' run, so if you get the chance check them out.
Also heard an interesting little factoid at my comic shop yesterday. You know that lame looking comic that they solicited in the last months previews called Trouble #1? Know how they were marketing it as a series for young teen and pre-teen girls? Well, turns out, this story actually involves a couple people named May, Ben, Vince I think, and someone else. Basically, its about Spider-man's parents and aunt and uncle. And the other big thing is they're going to reveal that Peter may have been an illegitimate child. Seems as though Marvel didn't want to reveal this information before, but since pre-orders on this comic have been abyssmal, they held meetings with some of their bigger retailers and distributors to let them in on a bit of the premise. So, turns out we could be getting some new information on the origins of Spider-man in this book. Anyway, thought some of you might be interested.

no the event supposedly will tie the origins of all the characters togethers as if they were not all random events. At least that's how the Wizard interview made it sound.
The Big event seemed more or less like a crossover then as a really well constructed event that would make everything come together as a giant conspiracy.
Bendis had no involvement with the Ultimate War which would seem rather silly as the Ultimate line is heavily built around Spidey as he was the first and most sucessful character in the line.
The Ultimate War also did not feature anyone beyond the X-men, Avengers and a minute crossover with Ultimate Adventures. That hardly seems to bring it all together like the interview seemed to imply.
It's not silly. To say that Bendis had no involment would have to be incorrect as the Ultimate Universe is co-conceived by him and Millar. Millar is doing most of the writing, however.
The guy who is writing Ultimate Adventures is good (this has nothing to do with anythiing). I suggest you guys try that mag.

Sol I think you misunderstood my post.
I meant that BEndis was not involved in the Ultimate War. Hence why I do not believe that was the major event.
My interpetation of the big event referred to in a wizard ultimate special sometime back said that we would start seeing some details that would make it feel as if there were a more clandestine purpose to all that has happened.
My take is that we will see that what seems like a bunch of random events will actually have all been manipulated and organized from the start.
A similar storline was covered in the real Marvel universe but many did not read the 2 part painted series that covered it. In fact I cant remember the title but the basic gist was that a secret group that involved:
Thunderbolt Ross, Tony Stark's Father, and others had been tracking the work of Banner, Pym, Tony Stark, and others ....
Perhaps the shielding for Reed's Rocket was sabotaged and the events that would lead Reed to take that rogue flight were all manipulated based upon a certain predictability of Richard's ego.
Perhaps Rick Jones was used unwittingly to cross that test site so that Banner would do what he did which caused him to become the Hulk.
What if the Class trip and the Spider were manipulated so that a random student would be bitten.
What about that truck carrying Radioactive material or the Blind man who almost got hit in Hell's kitchen what if both were set up by a secret group.
Maybe these were not set up but perhaps they were all watched or studied by an organization such as shield.
Each mutation recorded. What was the grand purpose of it all? Who would benefit and why? What was the motivation?
Will we the readers find out and if so what about the characters? It could be extremely interesting.
My point overall is that I think Bendis would have to be involved to make this the "Big Event" and the Ultimate War was not that event in my opinion.
I'm waiting for the conspiracy to rear it's ugly head, too Ontap. The first thing I am 100% percent certain is tied into the event thing is Captain America's resurrection. Banner and company are trying to crack the Super Soldier Serum for YEARS with little to no success (all for the purpose of having the new Cap lead the Ultimates I might add), and viola! Cap conveniently gets found 'floating in a block of ice'? Riiiggghttt.
If the utimate war was the big event then I'm abit dissapointed, but i'm pretty sure it isn't:) Anywayz it is said that they are planning to release another Utimate Title before the year ends...(Utimate Fanastic Four I hope:cool: ) and then there's the Six mini series where in Spdey Guest starring the Ultimates take on the Ultimate Sinister Six, hmmmm who might be in int?
by the wat, any comments on Proffesor X's cat being named mystique?!? I looked at all my issues of ultimate X-men and the cat was around in issues #1,2,4,8,15,20(cover),21,32. AND if you notice the cat follwed Cyclops when he bolted out of the X-men to join Magneto, was watching Shadowcat, and is usually around when the X-men is resting. COuld it be she's doing something behind the scenes like spying? . Coincidence? or is it just Millar Playing with our imaginations?
I started reading Ultimates late, so when I started to read there were alot of issues already out. I'm tring to track down them all. This is what I have so far.
Ultimate Spider-Man 2-16, 19-28, 30, 34-41 (Mssing 1, 17-18, 29, 31-33)
Ultimate X-Men 1-25 (Missing 26-33)
Ultimates 1-7 (Missing 8-10)
Ultimate Daredevil/Elektra 1 (Missing 2-4)
Missing Ultimate War 1-4
My question is are there any other mini-series's I'm missing. I know of Ultimate Team-Up, but does that really relate to the Ultimate world. I mean if Spider-Man has teamed with all those people how come it doesnt show or is never bought up. I beat when Wolverine meets Spider-Man in Ultimate X-Men 34 he will have no memory of him and they will act like they are meeting for the first time. I've heard mention of "Ultimate Adventure" but when ever I go to the comic store I never see it, was it canceled or something?
Nope. Just got Ult X men 34 and Spidey Does in fact remember him.
EVERY ULTIMATE BOOK IS CONECTED SOMEHOW.
In fact, Wolverine Remembers Peter in Ult Teamup 14 also as.
In Ult Xmen 34 he seeks Pete's Help. And they already know each. Others.
I also recommend Daredevil/Elektra. Right now the TPB (2-3-4) is selling at 12 bucks. Cool stuff. Claremont and Larroca. You can also find Ultimate War in Ultimate X-men TPB#5 in stores now.But if you're into colecting Single issues, then good luck finding them cheap!
Also, The Whole Teamup series are coll and some times hilarious.Buy it. You won't be dissapointed.
Cool, I'll have to check out those Ultimate Team-Ups, and I found that thing about Ultimate Adventures. Turns out it has nothing to do with the Ultimate line at all just tring to use it to sell more issues.
http://www.thexaxis.com/misc/ultimateadventures1.htm
Here is a link to it if interested. Anyone ever read it?
Uh...Ultimate Adventures is a top-notch read. Try it. Hank Kipple is hilarious. The Ultimates show up at the end of issue 3.

I'm going to start picking up Ultimate X-Men. Sounds good.
Hey, Guys!
I know how the Ultimates *****SPOLIER****Survive the Nucler Blast from Issue 10!
You see, In Marvel's site, the epic section exactly, there's a sample of the Ultimates 9 script and it says:
That Mark Miller writes to Bryan (Hitch) that he must make enfasis in Thor's Teleportaion and Captain America Shield thowing abilities for issues 11 and 12!!
That's how the survive! Thor teleports them out of range!
Cool stuff!!!!!!
Yeah, Yeah...that's no biggie at all. Thor gave the answer in issue 9. Check it out.
That's what I just said.
The script IS from Utimates 9.

The Ultimates hands down is probably the best book coming out of Marvel these days next to Captain Marvel.
One thing I like about the Ultimate line from Marvel are the quick turn-arounds for trade paperbacks. Get the full story arc, minus the annoying advertisements (and the covers made out of that new shi!tty material, bad call from the alleged House of Ideas).

The question I have is, who's the guy at the begining and end of #10?
Did he survive the Train explosion, or is it an alien taking his appearance?
