If you didn't get the file I sent yesterday with the map, I can resend it to you on Monday.

I'll take the side with the dirtpile.

How are we numbering/lettering the board?

-Rich

Brazil

I sent you a map on Friday. Check your e-mails from me there is an attachment. I can resend you the map tomorrow if you didn't get it. I'll do my placement on my laptop and I'll post my starting postion along with a description of the map in a few minutes.

Brazil
06/01/2003, 23:05
If you look at your map with the dirtpile along the top edge, the map is lettered A-X starting at the top row as A. and the Bottom Row X. The columns are numbered 1-24 starting at the left side, that being the 1 Column, and the Right Column being column 24.

My figures will start as follows:
E-Firelord (f1) W-9
E-Firelord (f2) X-11
U-Wasp (w1) W-10
E-Wasp (w2) W-11
R-Black Panther (bp) W-12
V-Vulture (v) W-13
E-Paramedic (+) W-14

The abbreviations in the Brackets are abbreviations I'm using on the map which you will see tomorrow when I post the current map.

-Rich

Brazil
06/02/2003, 17:51
DC fan, the row of dirt and the dirtpile by the lake are both hindering terrain. Your Skrulls would need leap/climb or flight to get to where you just tried to move them...well you might be able to get W1 where you tried to move him, but I suspect you were unaware of the Dirt being hindering so maybe you want to redo that whole move.

DCFan#1
06/02/2003, 18:08
The only move I counted incorrectly was Skrull Warrior 4. He should be at D22 (going around the pile and down the board). The other two are completely legal.

-Rich

Brazil
06/02/2003, 18:20
Skrull's only have a movement of 8 if Skrull Commnado 1 moves from A-16 to H-24 he will be moving along a diagonal line down and to the right. When he gets to G-22 he will be in hindering terrain and will have to stop there.

Uncle Ben
06/05/2003, 15:49
Just out of curiousity, when Brazil rolls for the Skrull Shape Change ability, was that something that was decided before hand? Or should DC Fan #1 be rolling that? Again, just curious.

Brazil, missed you on last Fridays game.

Uncle Ben

Brazil
06/05/2003, 15:56
It speeds things up if you make defensive rolls like Super Sences and Skrull abilities and even Probability control rolls for your opponent....the last one is kinda tricky, you might have to wait for your opponent to make the roll if there's multiple possibilities for it's use, but most of the time there is only one Probability Control option for your opponent, so you can make that choice for him...it speeds things up. We're using a Dice server, so it's not like either player feels like he's not getting to use his "mojo" by slinging the little plastic cubes themselves. This game really does translate to Play by E-mail or play by post pretty well.

As for Friday...yeah, I was indesposed. I should be there tomorrow though. Want to carpool?

DCFan#1
06/05/2003, 15:58
Naw, Brazil rolls for me on those. It makes the attacks go faster, and in turn the turns go faster. As long as he does it consistantly, I don't mind. Granted, one hasn't gone my way yet, and #### did I need it on Super Skrull.

Nice shot man! I really wasn't counting on the double taxi till later in the game. I'm putting a lot into this move right here, and I need the dice to roll my way. We'll see...

Brazil, could you post the link to the dice server again? I have it saved at home, but not here at work.

I might just be dense, and if so, I apologize, but how did F2 hit SS? Isn't elevated terrain blocking?

Brazil
06/05/2003, 16:57
I think supermember was just trying to point out an illegal move. He didn't know it was elevated, it was an honest mistake. I appeciate anyone speaking up if they think we've made a mistake. We're not perfect, I screw up all the time.

That was F1 that fired at SS at that point. The two models were in adjacent squares.

Elevated terrian is blocking terrian except for the edge of your square that you are in. If LOF crosses any elevated terrain your character isn't in it is considered block unless you are targeting someone else on elevated blocking terrain. I'm not sure how clear that is, but you can shoot off the edge of it as long as it doesn't cross any other blocking terrain other than the square you are in.

Because F2 was unable to target SS at that point and F1 made the Skrull roll, I think it's clear that despite Brazil's typo, it was F1 that made the attack.

I just assumed it was a typo, and treated it as such. No sweat.

Nice job taking out Super Skrull. I now also know you're not afraid to push if necessary.

Alright, last move of the day:

Skrull Commando 2 moves to W5
Skrull Commando 1 moves to I10
Skrull Warrior 4 moves to A9

No matter how bleak it looks, I will not give in!

Back when Black Panther moved to A3 to outwit Super Skrull's Invulnerabiltiy, did he cross the fence? Is not the fence hindering terrain? If it is, Black Panther could not have moved to that position.

I ask because whenever my group uses this map, the fence is treated as hindering terrain.

Brazil, I think Gentlegamer might be right. Check it again, to go around the fence I believe you end up one short of where you wanted to go, and you couldn't see SS.

Let me know.

We, looking at it again, I think you can get there. Crossing the fence into A3 would have been where you had to stop. I think it's legit.

You are correct, if Black Panther took the optimal path to A3, he would end up exactly where Brazil placed him. In my group, during a live game, once you pick up a figure to move you must show the path that you used . . . if your path crosses hindering terrain, or moves base to base with an enemy figure, then you must stop moving at that point, even if it was not your intented destination. I know you can't do anything like that online, but it is possible that Black Panther could have attempted to cross the fence at an earlier point and thereby ending his movement before he could get line of fire to outwit Super Skrull's Invulnerabitity.

Rich

Brazil
06/11/2003, 14:22
I think other people are using the same threads for thier games, I think we ought to stick with what everyone else is doing....plus, if everyone has 2 or 3 threads per match, things will get cluttered, and it will also make it harder for people who want to look at earlier games in a match to find them as they will disappear after a couple days.

I think it's best if we stay in the same thread.

And let's get started. Is the map in post 84 the map you wanted? If so go ahead and post your starting positions...I choose the left edge for my setup so you'll be on the right.

Good Luck,

Same thread is best - it'll make it easier to follow each series of games, and easier for me to enter the data into the spreadsheet.

Just do something noticeable to start the new game, like put in large bold text:
THIS IS THE START OF THE 2ND MATCH IN THIS SERIES

FL doesn't have LOF to SS from where he took the shot.

DCFan#1
06/16/2003, 21:38
And BP does have LOS to SS from there either. It crosses two walls. It's close, but it crosses.

Set them both up on a real map and you'll see, but are very close, but just miss the center of SS's square.

Brazil
06/16/2003, 21:48
Yes, both have LOS from their current positions. Remember that the rules state that objects go to the exact corners of squares. Even though they are drawn with thickness. I made an enlargement of that section of the map. Hopefully that will clear it up for you.

www.foosball.com/mike/banksiege/dcfan-los-enlargement.jpg

If you look at the geometry, and figure the LOS FROM Super Skrull, he could see strait down the diagonal up and to the left. And he could see squares to the left of that. Both Firelord and Black Panther are to the left of that.

DCFan#1
06/16/2003, 22:51
That's fine. Wow, you got me by the nuts early!

SS takes the shot on FL1, needs a ten, rolls a six. He pushes and takes his click.

Tabby takes the RCE shot on FL1, needs an eleven, and rolls snake eyes. ####!

Everyone else passes.

Hey guys,
I'm updating the spreadsheet, and I notice that this game seems to have stalled out. I also see that Brazil has begun his round 2 pairing with Chris.

So, I'm guessing DCFan dropped out? Is there any word from him - ie, is he busy right now and thinking about picking this game up at a later time? Without some word from him that he wants to continue the game, I'll have to record it as a concession on his part.

There may be some disagreement with that - but here's my logic on it:
Although technically he hasn't said, "I concede," it is the same thing if he has simply dropped out because he feels his position is untenable. To NOT count this as a concession allows a loophole in our data - players could simply stop posting when the odds were against them, thereby avoiding the loss.

I won't record this game until I hear back from CC - feel free to debate in the meantime, if you have a differing point of view.

And, of course, any word from DCFan would be welcome.

Hey guys, sorry for my unexplained disappearance. I've been out of town on business on and off for the past few weeks with little to no access to email or internet.

If Brazil has started round two, then I guess I'll throw in the towel here. I can't imagine him wanting to play two games at once.

Congrats to Brazil for playing a fine game, and giving my Skrull team a sound beating. I would argue though that in an actual game setting, the outcome would have been drastically different. Forum games do not play out like regular games, and do not represent the true spirit of the game.

No problem, Rich. You are planning on continuing with the test games though, aren't you? I should have a few players ready for Round 2 pretty soon. A lot of the Round 1 games have gone on a bit long, probably due to Cons, the start of summer, etc. I'd hate to have to move on without ya man, and hey, Peter's still in!

I don't have a problem playing two games at once. I would enjoy finnishing this match with DCFan. So if he wants to continue, I'm all for that. I have the maps from both my matches on my computer and it's very easy to access each one, and it only takes me a few minutes to take my turns and update the maps. If you have the time and desire, it's your turn DCFan, if you want to conceed that's your option as well.

Cool - good to have ya back, DCFan.

If you guys resume this game, cool - (heck, I havn't even gotten in ONE turn yet, so you guys are ahead of me, even with the 2 week delay in your game!) I'll hold off on recording it (or just record it as a concession, if that's what you prefer, Rich).

I know there are a few people out there that will take it upon themselves to ridicule and mock me for this, but I'm gonna conceed. Personal reasons, that's all guys. I've got too much other junk in my life right now, and I simply don't have the time to devote to this. I can barely make weekly tournaments.

Brazil, you played a fine game. Thanks.
