Pardon the interruption. I'm just posting to all these threads to make sure I get e-mail notification when they're updated. Makes things easier to keep track of.

Okay, Phil won the toss and chose the DC starter set indoor map.

I placed my objects at L21, L20 and J18.

My figures (placed second, but I'm posting them first, it looks like):

E-Firelord: K23
V-Doombot: K24
V-Taskmater: J23
E-Klaw: I23
E-Vulture: H24
V-Paramedic: G24

Here's the starting positions map:

V Paramedic: R2
R Con Artist: S2

My objects are at P7, P18 and P19.

Turn 1

Forgot to post a link to my team: here it is, http://www.hcrealms.com/cgi-bin/quickviewteam.cgi?teamname=UltronRedux&username=Phil%20Dixon&action=graphic.

Not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I decide to attack Firelord immediately.

Ultron free-moves to L15, drops Strange L16.

Con Artist moves to M7, which pushes her, and gives her LOF on Wasp. She Perplexes Wasp's Move to 9.

Wasp free-moves to M14, drops Boomerang M15.

Boomer borrows Ultron's Attack value and shoots. 13 vs 18+1 needs 6. That's what he rolls, and FL takes 3 clicks.

Strange shoots. 10 vs 12+1 needs 3. He rolls 5, and FL takes another 4.

Strange, Wasp and Con Artist are all pushed, and take clicks. Strange borrow's Ultron's Defence.

Final positions:

Wasp: M14 @@ 1 click
Boomerang: M15 @
Doctor Strange: L16 @@ 1 click
Ultron: L15 @

Time to smack the horse back.

Doombot gets a 3 for leadership, its programming confused from the sudden attack on Firelord.

Vulture pushes to move to N21 and drops Klaw at O20.

Klaw attacks Boomerang needing a 5 (10 vs 15) and getting a 7 for 4 clicks.

Taskmaster perplexes Firelord's attack up to 9. Firelord attacks Boomerang needing a 3 (9 vs 12) and gets a 4 for the KO.

Doombot clears.

Final positions:

Firelord@: K23 (7 clicks)

Vulture@@: N21 (1 click)
Paramedic: G24

EDIT:

Vulture should have gone to L22 and Klaw at M22. I had Vulture at the wrong place on my saved map before he moved, so these new positions are necessary. It doesn't change the final outcome of Boomerang, though Klaw needed a 6 instead of 5 to hit. His 7 is still sufficient.

Doombot: E16

Doombot again fails leadership. Doombot moves to L18 and drops Taskmaster at L17. Taskmaster perplexes up his attack to 13, attacks Dr. Strange, rolls a 3 and misses.

Klaw pushes and attacks Wasp, 10 vs 18, rolls a 7 and misses.

Firelord and Vulture clear.

Hi Dave. I've not been as active recently, but I'm still here.

A bit unlucky with the dice there, Greg. Anyway...

Con Artist Perplexes Ultron's Attack to 14, then moves to O9.

Strange Phases through the wall to K19, drops Ultron L20.

Ultron EEs Firelord and Vulture (Klaw gets splash attack). Attack is 14, roll is 11. All three targets take 2 clicks (Strange Enhances). FL is KOed.

Wasp free-moves to L19.

Strange borrows Ultron's Defence, just in case.

Unluck with the dice continues. This makes two needed 5's missed.

Doombot continues his recent trend as a failure for leading. He's just too distraught over losing Firelord.

Taskmaster perplexes up Doombot's damage to 3 and shares his 12 attack. Doombot pushes to attack Wasp, 12 vs 17 and rolls a 4.

Vulture moves to P20 and drops Klaw at Q20.

Paramedic flees to C22.

Hey Greg, I'm not going to hold you to this one. You rolled one die to attack by mistake in the first place - you hadn't changed the settings from your Leadership roll - and scored a 6, which is enough to hit on it's own. let's call that a normal hit, and work from there.

Phil.

Keleko
06/04/2003, 10:44
What, you feel sorry for me after you KOed Firelord? :) I was going to ignore that roll goof.

Okay, then, we'll take the first die from the second roll, which was a 1, and make the Doombot's attack total 7 and give 3 clicks to Wasp. It doesn't change the rest of my moves.

Carry on.

Phil Dixon

Strange ghosts to Q14, drops Ultron R14. Strange is pushed, but retains Enhancement.

Ultron shoots Klaw and Vulture with EE, needing 4 and rolling 6. Both targets take 4 clicks and are KOed. Ultron is pushed and takes a click.

Paramedic tries to heal Strange, and rolls 7 to hit, and 1 for effect, so Strange gains a click.

(And Greg – when are we doing our next game? My team is ready when yours is!)

Keleko
06/04/2003, 15:23
Did my die rolls look familiar to you? :)

I foolishly left Firelord a sitting duck, though I did intend to use him as bait. Didn't think he was quite as exposed as he turned out to be. If I'd made that 5 attack roll vs. Dr. Strange I think there may have been a different outcome.

Phil Dixon
06/04/2003, 16:12
With encouragement from the Con Artist, Strange pimp-slaps Taskmaster unconscious, rolling a 10. Then Ultron evaporates the Doombot, rolling 4 for 4 clicks.

I recognised you were using Firelord as bait, Greg, but I figured it was worth the gamble, and so it proved. Ready for Round 2?

Doombot again fails leadership - that's 6 times in a row over the two games, for anyone that is counting.

I'm making a bold, and probably stupid move, but I'm gonna get wasted if I don't move first. I'm also attacking with a push, so I'll be in immediate trouble. I've decided that my team is not that good of a team after all. Leadership has failed me, so I can really only get one good attack per turn if I have to move for it. Shoulda gone with a more typical Firelord team with free movement, outwit, and all that good stuff. Anyway, enough whining.

Vulture pushes to move to M8, drops Firelord at N7.

Perplexing the Paramedic's attack does you no good. Support ignores all modifiers, and perplex is a modifier. Also, the attack wouldn't be 13. It'd be 8, but only back to 7 for the support roll. Of course you rolled well enough to hit anyway, so the point is moot.

Keleko
06/12/2003, 21:19
Oh yeah, you also can't heal Boomerang if he is in H18. There's a Doombot at G17 adjacent to Boomerang. The healing roll is invalid.

Let's start turn 8, then. This silly game is keeping me from sleeping, so I'm up early posting...

You know, you *could* have moved Wasp to I19, put Boomerang at H20 and then healed him. I'd have even let you keep your heal roll. My generosity only goes so far when I'm desperately hanging on, though, so I wasn't going to suggest it if you didn't see it. You can take away my fellowship vote if you like.

Phil Dixon
06/13/2003, 08:36
Well, from "desperately hanging on" you've just gone to a probable win. I reckon I've less than one chance in six of winning this now.

But let's maximise those odds. Con Artist moves to H18, to prevent the Doombot joining in.

Ultron borrows Strange's Defence (he has no shame).

Actually, Boomerang should still have a click left. He was 3 down before the aborted heal attempt. The Doombot added one more for 4, putting Boomerang on his last click. This you get to take back, and even have a ~50% chance of taking out the Doombot with Boomerang.

Phil Dixon
06/13/2003, 12:11
Ah, my brain's seizing up. Thanks, Greg.

Sadly, Boomerang rolled a 5, so the Doombot's still there. Con Artist can stay where she is, as the'bot's already busy. Ultron can still borrow Strange's Defence, and my final positions are now:

Wasp: I18 2 clicks

Dr. Strange: M12 2 clicks

Time for the end game.

Klaw pushes and attacks Ultron, needs a 4 and rolls 11, dealing 2 clicks after toughness. Klaw takes a push click.

Firelord pushes and attacks Ultron, needs a 4 and rolls a 6 and KOs Ultron. Firelord takes a click.

Doombot pushes and attacks Boomerang, needing a 5, gets two of them equaling 10 for the KO. Doombot makes up for failing leadership so often and sacrifices itself with the push.

Final Positions
Paramedic: U6 (2 clicks)
Klaw@@: L9 (2 clicks)
Vulture: KO
Taskmaster: KO
Doombot: KO

There's nothing left offensively I can do this game. I can try to heal Firelord in turn 10, but that's the only action I have left for this game. Now, can Klaw and Firelord survive to get me the win? It's all up to the dice.

I'm going to assume you meant N13 instead of W13. Wasp can't even make it to W13, and that's not anywhere close to Dr. Strange.

And I just realized that we need to determine the type of objects placed after all. Dr. Strange has TK and could use one of them.

Phil Dixon
06/13/2003, 13:12
One chance in 3 sound fair? For a heavy, that is?

Keleko
06/13/2003, 13:13

Phil Dixon
06/13/2003, 13:27
There's actually two objects Strange could heave at FL - the third is under Kang, so Strange wouldn't be able to use it.

I'll roll 1 die for each, and if I get a 1 or a 2 for either, i'll call that a heavy. If that fails, I'm relying on knockback into the chimbley.

That OK with you? I'll go ahead on that basis.

Keleko
06/13/2003, 13:28
Actually, there are two objects within Wasp's taxi range for Dr. Strange to use. One is also under Klaw, so you couldn't make a ranged attack with it. So, here's what I'm gonna do to accurately represent the object dispersal.

Roll a bunch of 1 die rolls. Each object is allocated per die roll according to this table:
O9 - first die
L6 - second die

On an odd roll, the object is light and even is heavy. If the second die is the same roll as the first, then I'll reroll it until it is different.

Keleko
06/13/2003, 13:30
Okay, using either method we posted, neither object is heavy based on the roll (3 and 5).

Phil Dixon
06/13/2003, 13:35
So as it happens, the objects are light, and therefore worthless. Connie boosts Strange's Damage, and he shoots. He really needs knockback for that extra click, but he rolls a 7, doing 3 clicks.

Nothing to lose, Connie takes a swing, needing boxcars, and rolling double 5s. Firelord reels, but survives!

####, that was close.

Good game, Greg.

Keleko
06/13/2003, 13:44
Yeah, the wrong attacker got the knockback. I was really sweating it for the last two turns. I'm not sure if I won because of the first attack move I made or in spite of it. At least I made you focus on someone other than Firelord first, and I was able to start picking away at Ultron.

I had totally not considered the use of the Con Artist as an attacker. How often is a Con Artist the deciding attacker in a game?

I burst out laughing when my medic rolled snake eyes. I figured she must have gone into some kind of psychotic state when she realized she was being asked to attack instead of heal.

I'll roll for starting in round three. I also recommend we roll for the objects with my method, since that more accurately gives the proper distribution (ignore a number once rolled) since that models the shrinking pool of objects. We'll do that after objects are placed to represent the placement of them without knowing the type ahead of time.

Keleko

I don't know if this game proved anything for or against Firelord. It did prove that Ultron can be a beast to take out, though. It also proves having figures with deep dials, like Firelord and Ultron, can help you late in the game.

Remember, all modifiers to the support roll are ignored, so dropping your defense with perplex doesn't work. Since you only needed a 6 and rolled a 9, you still got the heal.

Not quite as nice as it could have been. I remembered after I attacked Ultron that this is a 10 turn limit. I can't KO Ultron before the end of the game. I should have put up the barrier first. Firelord would have then been free to move next to Wasp and taken Vulture with him. Now I have to depend on the undependable (especially for me this series) breakaway roll for Vulture.

Keleko
06/18/2003, 09:13
Well, game over in turn 9.

Vulture fails to breakaway with a 3.
Firelord uses EE vs Ultron, needs a 3, gets a 6. Ultron absorbs his one click with toughness. Wasp takes a click from splash.
Klaw pushes and attacks Wasp, needing 5+ and some knockback, but gets a 9 dealing only 1 click and failing to KO.

Everyone is pushed, and I can't act in turn 10. I'm already behind in points, and Phil has a shot at KOing either Klaw or Firelord, and possibly both if Wasp gets a lucky hit.

I lost because I got hasty in turn 8 and forgot this was a 10 turn format. Previous post is what I should have done in turn 8 to set up for a Wasp KO in turn 9. Or, I could have used EE and given Wasp a click in turn 8 and hoped she'd fail breakaway.

In this game series I think I made a 1d6 roll and got over a 3 about 3-4 times. I tried to plan around the dice as much as possible, but you can't win if you can't roll what you need. I'm sure Phil can sympathize after what happened to him last game.

At least in this game I felt in a little more control of my fate. Ultron never got a shot at Firelord, and Firelord finally got to use his hefty damage. Phil mostly attacked who I wanted/expected him to attack. I also should have used Vulture instead of the Doombot to carry in Taskmaster. The trades of Taskmaster and the 'bot for Dr. Strange and Boomerang left me behind in points.

All in all a good game, despite my whining of what I should have done.

Taskmaster: KO
Doombot: KO
Paramedic: F9

Klaw@@: L14 (6 clicks)
