View Full Version : Bat-villain fun!

This is entirely for my own benefit, because I think I just kicked the most ### I ever have in a game, and I feel like tooting about it.

A friend of mine let my roommate and I borrow his near complete set of all Marvel and DC Clix, so I played a 500 point Batvillain team against my roommate and two of his friends. True, one of them was pretty much a beginner, and none of us are tourney-quality players, not to mention my roommate's dice were treating him very poorly. My team was

LE Catwoman
U Joker
LE Harley Quinn
LE Mad Hatter
LE Riddler
LE Man-Bat
V Bane
E Clayface III

Now, thinking like Batvillains, I decided to bide my time and try to let the other guys walk into traps. The guy to my right started out his R Huntress and Parasite too close to me for comfort, so I edged Clayface, Riddler and Mad Hatter that-a-way and waited for him to come to me, into Mind Control range. I sneak Joker and Harley (gotta keep 'em together) up onto a building top (this is the city intersection map), expecting the battle to open up soon in the middle of the street, and they can toss bombs and have fun outwitting and perplexing things. Catwoman sneaks up onto a different rooftop for outwitting fun. I don't even move Man-Bat and Bane until someone sneaks into Man-Bat's movement range, and the unlucky sop is Wolfsbane.

Man-Bat immediately flies over to Wolfsbane, who's trying to sneak up on Joker and Harley, and Bane clocks her in the mouth, 5 damage. Beast (my roommate's favorite guy) comes running in for backup only to get clocked in the jaw for 5 damage, too. Bane is a bad-###. V Storm tries to sneak up on me, but I've been toasty-fried by her in too many prior games to let her go, so Man-Bat leaves the two staggered X-dorks and whomps Storm so hard her kids'll be born dizzy, rendering her pretty useless, too. True, my roommate's dice are not treating him well, and mine are doing a good job, but still - thump thump thump, his force is suddenly chumps, and I only had to push Bane once to make sure I got the hit in on Storm.

Meanwhile, the other half of his force is tied up with the other guy - Sabertooth comes after the other guy's Braniac, so Braniac mind-controls Pyro to fry the heck out of Sabes, and gets doublesixes, knocking him off the building, effectively ending Sabes, because all his regen rolls keep failing. So he's out cold and on fire, trying to roll around and snuff the flames on his dog-hair. Poor sap. Braniac also mind-controlled Vision to chuck the huge mainframe computer at Pyro and thunk his ###, then Braniac's teammate Swamp Thing chucks a desk at Pyro and kills him dead. My roommate's getting pretty decimated, until he finally brings his Vision to bear and trading blows with Braniac.

While all this is going on, Parasite tries to attack Mad Hatter, who promptly mind-controls his ### and makes him push to scoot over into hindering terrain... which means I did him a favor, because Parasite now gets all his fun power treats. Clayface locks up Huntress enough for Riddler to kill her, and as I've realized that nothing's happening in the intersection, I've brought Catwoman and Harley over to the corner to pitch in with Parasite, now that he's turned into a badass and I have no familiarity with the guy, so I don't know what I'm in for. Parasite nails Clayface, but Catwoman outwits Impervious, Harley and Riddler have some fun with perplexing and soon enough Parasite is no more, and I get out with only a limping Clayface and a once-pushed Riddler.

So Man-Bat swings Bane over to take care of Ned Leeds LE Hobgoblin, who was trying to cover Storm's escape before Bane cracked her skull, and he lays a big whomp onto Hobby, too, knocking some teeth down his throat. Bane is on FIRE. Not the Sabertooth 'owie ow, Pyro, why'd you shoot me?!' fire, but the metaphorical 'one-punch-and-yer-nothin' sense of the term. Joker decided to hang out and monkey with Hobby, too, outwitting his Incapacitate just because he could. I brought him around to help neutralize Storm, but Beast locked up with him and held him still for Storm to try one last gasp, which frazzled the Clown Prince, but not enough so that he couldn't finish off Beast. I notice my roommate's trying to snake Boom Boom into play to toss out some EE on Man-Bat and Bane, but Bane locks up with her. Then Hobby tries to pick her up and run away with her, but Bane locks up with them, and Hobby tries to break away, pushing to do so and killing himself in the process. Fun! Boom Boom breaks away, evading Bane, so the bad-### duo goves over to knock Storm into next week permanently, and does a fine job of it.

So the opponents' Vision, Braniac and Swamp Thing are in a clusterfunk on the other corner building, so Catwoman hops to the edge of hers and starts outwitting Braniac's Impervious so Vision can soften him up, because if he don't get softened, HE WILL DESTROY US ALL MWA HAH HAH HAH! Riddler, Harley and Mad Hatter all make it to the edge of the building too as Clayface runs down to go trade some blows with Plastic Man and Nightwing, who're comin' round the bend, having been pretty much held in reserve, other than for a good shot Pyro got on Nightwing first off, which I'd forgotten about (I wondered why his attack was so ####py). Plaz splats Clayface into the wall, handily granting him Poison, which Plaz sucks up for a few turns before finally breaking away (so if two guys with Plasticity lock up, what happens? Do they cancel each other out, and breakaways are normal, or do they still only need to roll a 1 not to break away, or do they have to roll a 6?) and moidelizing my Clayface. Harley drops some fun bombs on Plaz to kill him, Joker comes around and offs Nightwing. Yay Batvillains!

So Boom Boom keeps evading Bane (although Riddler gets a long-distance shot on her, and Wolfsbane kills herself to heal her), and I get pissed at my roommate's Vision for grabbing Sabes and running away after I outwitted Braniac's now-Toughness for him to land another blow, so Catwoman starts outwitting Sabes regeneration (not that he's having any luck rolling it anyway), and I bring Man-Bat and Bane over, and Bane thwomps Vision pretty handily, but it takes a couple to really get rid of him. That's what you get for spitting in my gift horse's mouth. Or something. Meanwhile, Mad Hatter mind-controls Swamp Thing to attack Braniac, and with some perplex fun, scores a near-killing blow on the big goofy robomonkey, sending him off hiding for most of the rest of the game. Swamp Thing comes down after the Joker and lands a weak blow, then Joker finishes off Swampy and I think Riddler aced Braniac from the rooftop, ending Player 3's team. Catwoman runs over to the other building just after Vision gets crunched into diodes and dimwittery, but I forgot to outwit his regeneration, and this time he rolled a 6! Sabes is back and no longer stopping dropping and rolling! So I outwit his BCF so he doesn't land any lucky shots on Bane. Not that I needed to worry much, because I got sick of chasing after Boom Boom and just brought Bane up to plaster Sabes. THUNK. Outwit Regeneration again! Huzzah! THUNK! Dead Sabes!

Finally, the deathblow to the game comes when Bane finally catches up to Boom Boom, and dramatically pushes one more time to cave her face in and win the game. My only casualty was Clayface. Joker had a few clix taken off, Bane had pushed a few times, Mad Hatter had been knocked around but not out, and Riddler pushed a bit. Harley, Man-Bat and Catwoman were still at full health (although it wasn't for a lack of trying to hit them - although I don't think anybody even took a shot at Harley). Very satisfying win. Cool like the first game I ever played, where I won with Hulk as the last guy standing after he ran off to grab a dumpster and came storming back and smashed Annihilus (or maybe it was Thanos) to death with it. About as cool as the time I won with Black Manta as the last guy standing in a three-way battle, because he kept incapacitating the guy until he pushed himself to death. (I won the game right before this big one tonight, too, and Black Manta got to kill Aquaman! Woo! LONG LIVE BLACK MANTA!

I wanted to sneak a rookie Black Manta onto this Batvillain team, but to no avail. I wanted Vet Bane. When you absolutely, positively have to thwap every motherscratcher on the MAP, accept no substitutes. Bane was just a MACHINE. He didn't miss once, and he pretty much useless-ized every guy he thwomped.

(side question - does Psychic Blast ignore Super Senses as well? We figured it didn't, because Super Senses isn't damage reducing, it's damage avoiding)

Anyway, there's no point to me posting this other than I think it's nifty, and I couldn't sleep until I told somebody about it. Woo!

G'night everybody!

Good question. Nothing in either FAQ. I would lean towards your interpretation, simply because SS gets rolled before anything else is figured out about the damage. I've been notoriously wrong in the past, though.

And yeah, Bane is all that and a bag of chips. A supersized bag.

Thanks. Got an answer for the Plasticity question?

(so if two guys with Plasticity lock up, what happens? Do they cancel each other out, and breakaways are normal, or do they still only need to roll a 1 not to break away, or do they have to roll a 6?)

I might have to trot out Bane more often.

One more question, because it affected the use of Storm in this game:

Flyers can't shoot over friendly figures, can they? They have to obey the same line of sight rules that grounded figures do - meaning if Storm is behind Boom Boom, and several squares in front of her and slightly to the left are Joker and Harley, Storm can't just shoot over Boom Boom at Joker, right? Boom Boom would be blocking her, and flight doesn't grant people the ability to shoot over other dudes to get to a dude.

At least that's what I think. If I'm wrong, lemme know.

According to the FAQ, two Plasticity characters b2b go back to the regular breakaway rules (take 4, 5 or 6 to break).
