Well, I have been reading most of the clans stuff and things seem to be spiraling. So what I propose for the Avengers Clan Thread is, we use this thread to discuss all things Avengers. Be it Figures, Issues, movies, cartoons ...etc.

We can still fend off the Doomies and the Masters of Johnsons,

But mainly we will keep it on the straight, talking about the best #### team and characters in comics, The Avengers.

Though if an "Avengers vs. whoever" thread opens up, well, I guess we will have to go on over and set them straight.

I am sure between all of us and whatever other new members join, we will know just about all there is to know about Avengers lore.

I myself read just about every issue up to about 1995.

that's my 2 cents anyway.

For the time being, the CLAN threads are welcome on HCR.
But please follow these rules:

First and foremost, these are just for fun and camaraderie. There is no competition to see who can have more members. You join whatever one(s) you enjoy and that is that.

As such, flaming, aggravating, or posting any obnoxious remarks to other ‘clan’ threads will not be tolerated.

Do not post “join ‘X’ clan instead, we’re cooler…” You are each your own entity and what the others do does not involve you.

I am assuming most of you are huge Avengers fans, or you would not have joined. with that in mind, I was wondering what you guys think of the story line towards issue 300 of the Avengers when Dr. Druid just took over the team and just about destroyed them?

I have talked to others and they seemed to think it was to much of a ploy. Like the Death of Superman, just to pull in readers.
I however, enjoyed it. It was one of my favorite storylines.

As for the Avenger Team only, I really don't have a lot of experience with that I use a lot of different people on my teams. However, I am playing in a game where everyone has to be one affiliation and I plan on being the Avengers. :p

As for the comics. I love em, I have the following issues:
Avengers #4-17, #19-25, #31-36 and #40 and up to issues number 307 (or something like that) and now I have all the new Avengers as well. If you have an Avenger question I'm sure I can get the answer if I don't know the answer.

Well, I would use Captain America-V, Ant-man-LE, Hercules-V, and Scarlet Witch-V on many of my Avengers teams.

As for the Flame Wars, it looks as if Doom and his gang has backed off and "folded his tents" from the this Avengers thread, so untill anything else unfolds, it looks like the wars are off. And, as leader, if Doom would like to say anything to the Avengers on this thread, he can direct them to me.

Does this current run tie in at all with what Leifield did a while back with the Avengers, Iron Man and Cap America? or was that something totally seperate?

I kinda wanted to use Antman, but I really don't know if he'd be worth it. The high defense is nice, but aside from that he doesn't pack that much bang for his buck.

Seems like a good team, you may want to reconsider The Vision. He just keeps on coming, can soak up a lot of punishment.
The ultimate utility piece. He can taxi, he takes a beating and still can dish 2 constant points of damage, he has phasing almost all the way down.

I was thinking about Vision instead of She-Hulk, but then I realized if I did that I'd have no one at all who did more then 2 damage.

Personally I'd use Quasar instead of even Vision, just cause I love him.. but he's not really worth it IMO.

Vision does have a high Def, which is something I was aiming for on this team too.. hmm..

As for reading them like I said I stopped at about 307 . . . except for the new stuff . . . It has some GREAT issues around issue 25 w/the 1000's of Ultrons battling the Avengers if you haven't seen that then I suggest checking it out. It brings back almost all the Ultrons since Avengers #57. Which we all know is the first appearance of the Adamantium Ultron.

As for favorite Avengers (of old) issues it has to be number 100 . . . also, I like 166 and 167 (The Molecule Man) which also shows Tigra in first appearance of the Avengers on a solo.

It's all good stuff really.

It is kind of tough for me to pick one favorite issue. I am sure if I went through them I could find one. My favorite story line of all time was the Galactic Storm line.

The Kree-Skrull war was another one, but the team division in Galactic Storm over the murder/justifed killing of the supreme Kree head, (forgot his name) was classic. The rift between Cap and Iron man, classic.
The only down part for me was that at the time, Thor had the persona of a teenager or something.

Oh yeah that was stupid . . . I didn't like that either. The Kree/Skrull War was a great series as well . . . I also liked Avengers Annual # 10 - - Do you know whose first appearnce was in that one?

I also liked "Trial of Henry Pym" when he was going through his phases, it was in his Yellowjacket persona, that he killed someone, but it was found out later that he was schizophrenic because of all the personalities that he has had over the years (Giant Man, Goliath, Ant-Man and his namesake) he finally cracked. But none the less, that's what started all the Avengers getting up and go and becoming more involved. All good stuff.

Of course another great issue is Avengers #9 (Guess whose first appearance that is?)

I totally agree with you . . . if your going to make a team that consists of all Avengers, then you should use all Avengers, not ones of people that were Avengers, but at that point in their career aren't (ie: Scarlet Witch is an Avenger, but not on her Rookie version, so you shouldn't use the Rookie Version just the Veteran version)

So when I do my Avengers vs JLA (when the new set comes out) I will have of course the Avengers (and only people with the A on their base) vs the JLA (only people w/the JLA symbol)

What irks me the most is when people always say that "Batman" E is the best so that's why they use him. He's the best, I agree, but when he was with the JLA he wasn't uber sneaky Batman . . . so you should play him as so. But meh! that's me.

I sitll think that an all Avenger team (all 1000+ pts worth) of them will be a force to be considered . . . WHAM! Free move, WHACK! your out! ~smirk~

My other favorite issue was the "silent" issue when Kang took over the earth. Thor was brought to his knees in dispair and when the General tried to sign the surrender Kang motioned that he wished for the W.A.S.P. to sign. What a GREAT issue.

I can see your points, about only using those figures with the Avengers symbol on them.
However, for figures like, Monndragon, and the Beast, what will you do?
I think is is unlikly we will ever see another mood of Moondragon, either Avengers of Defenders.
For those figures who have both unifliated and Avengers teams, I use the Avengers versions only.
But with Moondragon, I have no problem sticking her on the team.

When they release Captain Marvell, it is unlikey he will have Avengers Affiliation, but I would still like ot use him on my Avengers team

Yeah I can understand using the figs that were Avengers that aren't now like Beast and Moondragon, but for an all affiliated team I wouldn't use them. However, if the restriction of being able to use any figure that was an Avenger then I'm all over it.

Issue 100 was just a great issue, I can't recall the exact storyline of it but the one thing that I do recall is it's the only issue that had (at the time) every Avenger in the issue, it was double size and it was just funny. I believe the storyline involved Count Nefaria.

As far as "theme teams" go I would use anybody that has the team symbol Avengers, anybody who was a team member but is unaffiliated (Moondragon), or anybody that was a member but was given a different team (Beast); or the non-Avengers version of someone who is an Avenger in other versions (Scarlet Witch rookie). A loose deffinition I know; but I lose 75% of the time to my rotten brother-in-law who has no cumpunction about throwing together a team based strickly upon playability. But I have more fun!:cool:

I have not really read comics since about 1995.

I decided to go and get some back issues of the current run after I left work this evening. Just to finally catch up.

After reading some of the earlier issues, I got real excited. Perez is a master.

Then I got to the current issues. I guess it would have been about issue 60.
It is not so much that I was disappointed as I was sad. To see a team I grew up with and loved, turned into a soapbox for its current writers political beliefs is a shame.

The only redeeming side I could find is the tension between Black Panther and Iron Man. That stuff was really great.
But the rest? Just mediocre and sad. It had great shock value, but nothing else. I hope the current writing/editorial side, moves on to shaming and decaying another another book soon.
It did have nice art work though.
as to your question, even though it was She-Hulk that was infected I don't think she will be the character to die. I am am thinking it will be either Jack of Hearts or Warbird.:disappoin

Well accually people usually say wolverine, then cyclops and somemore X-men before they get to Cap , that is even if they do.(yes i went around school asking people). Well i'm up for a Cap movie, as long as they make it good, not like the late 80s(?) direct to video one :confused:

I think it depends on the ages of the people you ask. Those Ages 10 to about 23 or so will most likely answer with X nonsense.

Those in their mid 20's to 40's will probably give anywhere to Spiderman, and Cap to The Hulk and the FF.

I would doubt the older fans out there would think Cyclops when asked who they think of when you say marvel comics. But I can see the younger fans doing so. Considering all huge amount of X-Stuff Marvel has flooded us with in the last several years or so.

That is why I can see them killing off Rogers. Marvel just does not seem to care anymore. I lay the blame with that rat masquerading as the Editor and Chief. I don't think we will ever get rid of him.

I agree. I can't beleive they fired Mark Waid! Some carp about him not wanting to turn the F4 into a dramedy where Reed was a mad professer. He said he didn't think that was a good idea and they let him go. I'll post the article in a sec.

It would seem the decision to replace me was made the moment I failed to get with the program. Still -- Bill's company, his prerogative.

Shortly afterwards, The Pulse announced that playright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will become the next FF writer. Aguirre-Sacasa is the winner of a 2002 Roger L. Stevens Award from the Kennedy Center and is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama. There is still no word yet on the status of current artist Mike Wieringo.

Hey Thor, to answer your question about if they said Cap was going to die, they didn't say he was the one going to die. Just kinda' general. Here is what they said, and I quote:

So I guess we're all wrong in saying that someone dies in the "Red Zone" story, and that Cap does have a good chance in staying alive. So im guessing all predictions up untill here will change.

Oh yeah,before I forget, I'm a very young person and yet ever since I was 3, Captain America was always one of my favorite charcters, so i guess it depends on who is your fav. superhero to determain a poll.

I don't think Cap will be killed, for some reason he's to "Red/White/Blue" America and I don't think they'll do something with all the tragedy we've endured over the years. I love Cap, I think he's one of my top 10 favorite heros in the Marvel Universe and only 2 X-Men are on that list and that of course is Nightcrawler and Wolverine, but anyhow I'm not sure who they'll kill it'll definately be a blow. I just hope that it isn't Cap because then they'd bring back USAgent ~sigh~ . . . oh well off to important things.

BTW, I think Black Widow served a tenure as leader. Also, the original Avengers had a monthly rotating chairmanship. I think that ended when Cap took over with Wanda, Hawkeye, and Quicksilver.

Lastly, I think Hawkeye will return to the team and I'm betting Jack of Hearts will probably bite the big one.

Any who, I did just as you suggested Deadpool and read issues 20 though about 32 or so, (with the exception of issue 25, could not find the back issue anywhere) and they were quite good. I have always loved Ultron vs Avengers storylines. He and Masters of Evil are two of the best if not the top Avenger enemies

I would have to go with Wonderman. He'd have flight, Super Strength, Invuln, Tough. Basically Thor without the ranged attack.

Avengers Theme would ROCK!

Actually, the Avengers are a lot like a U.
There are many high pointers, and a decent amount of low pointers (Witch, Wasp, Cap, Widow. Quicksilver, Hawkeye), but almost no one in the mid-range(50-80 pts). The reason I know this is because we recently did an interesting variation for a game: All figures had to be between 50 and 100 pts. Only Cap and Hawkeye fit that area, while a TON of the X-men did. In fact, X-men dominated the teams.
So who would make a good mid-level Avenger Heroclix?
I'd say Vet Goliath, Vet Spider-woman, Rookie or Ex Photon, Vet Black Knight(Blades, Tough, Perplex, Outwit, put him on his hover horse), Firestar and Justice. A redone Cap would easily make it into the 80 pt. range.

Avenger I DON'T wanna see is D-man or Giglamesh.

Ya' know, I went down to the shore for 3 days, and I looked at some old issues of my Avengers comics. In Avengers #57, on the very last page of the book, Scarlet Witch is doing that Tarot card reading thing, anyway, she flips 2 cards, the second card she flips reads "Death", and the Grim Reaper is holding Captain America's shield. Is this a bad omen for Cap, or is Johns just trying to keep us on our feet? We'll know in September, untill then, Captain America signing out.

Well, this weeks issue shows not Cap dying, but an Avenger that hasn't made an appearance in the Red Zone yet. Yes, Falcon is the one to bite the dust, after being shot by the Red Skull. Gyrich is also shot, but I'm actually not positive if either of them died, or survived.

I guess we can agree that there is plenty of material to support an Avengers based set. I mean, if the FF can be the foundation for a set, you know the Earth's Mightiest Heroes can be the anchor as well.

There's tons of Avengers that still need to be made for Heroclix. I agree with some of the previous posters who say the Avengers need more low and mid-level cost players to round out some of the heavy hitters. For example, I would love to see a Photon with phasing, EE, ES/D, and RCE that should clock in at under 100 points, but in reality she will end up costing aroun 60 points and resemble the E Starfire from Cosmic Justice.

The mid-level character I would love to see is Black Knight. Whether he flies on Boromir or not, he should be in the 50-70 point range.

This can only happen if they fix Cap. No way Dane should be worth more than good old Steve Rogers. Not that they couldn't be close (but Cap has handed Dane his ### on a platter on many occasions).

Favorite Dane moment: Cap's legs are broken so he give his shield to Dane. There's a panel with the Black Knight wielding Excalibur and Cap's Shield!

As for the reference to Black Knight (Dane Whitman) I remember that issues that was definately a site to see but he was a little clumsy with the shield but still impressive none the less.

Quicksilver needs two range for his unique. Imagine the possibilities...

Still couldn't effect the Invulnerable; unless he were perplexed.

He runs clear across the board and stops one space away from his target.

His target can either walk forward to get back to back and face a flurry attack(assuming his target doesn't have range), run away, or just wait for one attack at two range(he runs forward hits them a few times, then runs back).

Any way Quicksilver has the drop on them; as he should.

Either that or Hypersonic speed!!!! Then Flurry.

His power is, of course, only as strong as the writer wishes to make it; but at his peak Quicksilver is a MIGHTY mutant with the power to make his way through time at a faster rate than normal; as well as mutant super speed and resiliancy to survive throwing a punch at 200 mph.

I agree, I would like to see a new Quicksilver with HHS. And I would not mind seeing a new Cap.
The one sculpt I really want to see done over is Thor. Whoever did his sculpt should have a quick smack to the back of his head. Thor's current sculpt looks like a retarded pigmy.
I am also hoping they redo Antman, and actually sculpt the figure. I have always thought his was one of the cooler outfits.
Same goes for the Atom over on the JLA side.

In the X-Men themed set X-Plosion we saw nine characters including two Unique who were X-Men. I am not counting Weapon X because he was not on the X-men.
So, using this model and coming from the thought that the next expansion will be an Avengers theme, who do you think will be included? Nine R/E/V and two unique with the Avengers team.

Anywho to answer the first question I would like them to redo Quasar so that he doesn't look so gay . . . he should have his hands at his sides with the Quantam Bands glowing (yellow) or something cooler than the positions that he's in now.

As for the 9 possibilities that WIZKIDS will put in I would say that they will probably make the following:

Just a thought though . . . I'd love to see another one and Tigra as well but she's not that famous . . . yet!

i dont think there is enough A- list avengers left to make an expansion out of them. they have had better representation in all three sets so far than any other team except the xmen. and if they were to make an expansion out of them it would consist of second sting superheroes at best.

Well I do not know if would classify Wonderman, Captain Mar-vell and Namor and the Black Knight as second string hero's.
Of some of the other Avengers like Tigra, Moon Knight, Giant Man, Goliath, Warbird a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, Falcon, Photon, Starfox, Mockingbird, Sersi, War Machine, Firebird, Living Lightning, Spider-Woman II, Crystal, Swordsman, Justice and Firestar may be somewhat unknown, to those who may not be familiar with Marvel comics, but certainly not second string.

So would you say Boom Boom, Psylocke and White Queen were A list X-men? Along with those three there was Storm, Colossus, Ice Man, Beast, Shadowcat and Gambit and weapon X included in the XPlosion set

How would that match up be less than say Namor, Black Knight, Wonderman, Captain Mar-vell, Warbird, Crystal, Seris, Falcon and Firestar or Moon Knight or Goliath.

Plus Avenger villains like Baron Zemo, the Wrecking Crew, Loki and Grim Reaper. Does not seem second string to me.

if iron man, cap, thor, or even vision hadnt been done then they could carry the set. but wonder man is incapable of carrying an expansion and namor is considered more of a defender. im sure some of the avengers you mentioned will be in the new set just like in every other set so far but its unrealistic that it will be an avengers oriented set
