If not just for the new maps and possibly new powers.

Hellboy looks great, but I'm starting to suspect - if the set's only 96 strong - that all I'm getting are Hellboy and Judge Dredd. I plan on getting a starter, but that may be it - rest will be singles.

Samandahl Rey!!! My pre-order is made right there! With only 96 figures I ahve to once again question the validity of the REV in this set. How can we have REV of characters that either have not been around that long, haven't changed that much, or both? I think what would make this set really stand out is if we had 96 DIFFERENT characters. Only problem with that is trying to track them all down. I have enough problems trying to track down a legit Nightcrawler!

The figures look great! I can't wait for this set. Except as Hellboy would say..."Aww Cra *censored*" why only 96 figures? I was expecting a decent sized set (at least 120 figures). Well, I guess WhizKids is hedging their bets in case it doesn't do as well as Marvel and DC. :nervous:

I can't believe that there haven't been any perverted comments about Witchblade yet! She's even hotter than White Queen and easily one of the best sculpts we've seen yet in Heroclix. Maybe Indy is the reason DC quality has slipped to Marvel levels?

I've never read an Indy comic except for Image's "Bone," which was not really good material for clix (well...I take it back...I'd like a Kingdok click!). I'll buy it for the sake of remaining competitive in "mixed" formats, but I'm suspecting that mixed will become increasingly scarce with the tri-universe.

I think the small size of the set lends some validity to the rumor that the UK/European set will have more 2000 AD characters (better recognized there than here) instead of CrossGen characters. Get ready to do some over overseas trading gentlemen.

The Indyclix Rock!! If you guys have not checked out Crossgen comics your missing out. The Sam figure could be on par with a 200pt Marvel or DC figure. The girls (Shi, Witchblade etc.) are just plan hot! Hellboy looks like he will be one of the top figures in the set. Does anyone know if they will be selling these at the San Diego Con? I gotta get some!!

umm Witchblade is from Image, more accurately Todd mcFarlane is holding himself from heroclix

I'm still not too hyped up about heroclix, still too many gun/blade characters, but I am psyched to see Samdhal Rey, I'll buy boosters tillI gte im, but I still remain unimpressed

and whats up with only 96 figs, I'll be posting a different thread on this later, but why 96? thats booster size, not starter size

Correctly me if I'm wrong, but isn't Danger Girl (Abbey Chase, in the white and green) a part of Cliffhanger, which is part of Wildstorm, which is part of DC? When did they switch publishing?

Bluebeard
06/19/2003, 01:59
Well I had absolutly no interest in these aside from their playability. I don't read these comics at all (Except for that new Lady Death comic... might she be in this set? I'm not sure exactly what constitutes Indy) but I did want to buy the more useful pieces individually to be able to compete. BUT, after seeing these, I can see my money flying away. Just like with the Marvel and DC clix, I'll get to learn who all these people are, and perhaps even find some comics I enjoy. Before heroclix I read 0 titles, and now I'm getting 4 or 5 on a regular basis. I'm really excited about this now that they;ve given us a taste and hopefully I can get a job by the time they're out. So who's that cute chick with the green pants on the bottom anyway?

Well, they did mention that the characters would be from creator owned things, meaning the publisher might be Cliffhanger, but the guy Scott Campbell might have given the go ahead.

Didn't read through to see if anyone answered, but as of right now, the answer is no. Alot of the Indy companies wanted to see what kind of success this line of HC would have.

McFarlane, in his very egotistical way, did not sign, there fore no Spawn. When you think about it, it kind of sucks that we'll have the biggest characters from the other two lines, but won't have the character that epitomizes the success of the Independent comic industry.

Hopefull Indy will share some level of success with the Marvel and DC lines (though I doubt it), and Spawn will be seen in the future.

Now, I wasn't going to go after these like the other two, and while my mind is not totally made up, there may be a few I may have to get-just depends on who they are, and how playable they are.

I have to say, I love the figures. They look great. The line-up, or what we know of it anyway, doesn't do a lot for me. I still don't see myself putting too much money into it, beyond a starter - new map! and see what new fun stuff the PAC holds.

Still though, really nice-looking figures, better even than what we've gotten with Marvel or DC. At least based on these pictures.

Todd McFarlane won't give up the rights to Spawn because he's seen the sculpting and painting jobs on previous clix.

06/19/2003, 09:41
I'm still hoping for a Simon Archard from Ruse. Can you say Outwit? I knew you could.
As for Spawn, I heard a roumor that McFarlane was going to come out with his own collectable minitures game, manufactured under the McFarlane Toys brand. Considering the image 10th year set they came out with recently, it could possibly have Savage Dragon, Cyberforce, and Shadowhawk in it, if it turns out to be true.

I still think that the exact attitude we are seeing on this board is going to either be the creation or downfall of this set. It seems to be like ring here right now.

Sweet! Danger Girl! I will definitely get her! But who is the demon guy?

Alright Hellboy!! He is the only one I want from thsi set! Can anyone tell me who the flying guy is though?

Samandeal Rey? Well there is my case right there! But who's the chick in flames?

Witchblade, now if there a Darkness and Angelus my life will be complete! What's up with the chick in green pants?

Either people will get interested in who these other people are, we will see a lot of trading for the characters that people know and want, or this set will sit on the shelves at the retailers. Anyone else?

If Todd McFarlane is being picky about his sculpt it's his loss that his character won't get added exposure in Indyclix. I wasnt on the fence, I was on the other side. Now Im on the fence. We'll see. If they make a TMNT or some Sin City characters, I may be in.

Matter rearrangement = Incapacitate (at least that's what they said for Firestorm  )

On a side note, I'll end up getting a starter for the map alone. Probably pick up stuff for sealed tournaments, but seeing as how the only people I recognize from ANY of the ads is Hellboy and Dredd, I'll pass on this set. I don't really read any of the comics from any of the characters in the set. However, I see the sculpts and they look really cool. And I know of enough of the characters that I'm vaguely interested.

That being said, I love clixs. I have such a great time playing the game, and these are more pieces I can get to add to my set. More options I have when I'm playing. And they look darn cool. I plan on splitting a case with a friend of mine, and buying a starter (new map, PAC and re-written rule book). I'll collect the whole set, because I have with all the others.

It doesn't really matter to me that I don't know they characters. Heck, I don't know half of the DC guys, but that didn't stop me from getting that set. Why? Because it's cool, and some of the guys I don't know are fun to play.

Besides, when the Whoclix entries for Indyclix go up, I'll read those just like I do with the other sets, and I'll get to know the guys I don't know. OK, I'm done being preachy. :)

feralparrot
06/19/2003, 10:44
Exactly, snatreaper.

Heroclix got me back into comics, and if I liked playing with a figure I didn't know, I looked him up and learned about him.

I knew 90% of Marvel, 50% of DC, and I'm sure I'll only know 20% of the Indy characters.

More variety to play with, too!

I think about making customs, partly because I see characters (dials) that the current sets might be missing.

Here are 96 more dials!!

I'll end up getting some of this. I recognise enough of the characters on this list, though I haven't read any of their books. I'll get it just for variety, gives me more pieces to play with. It's more fun for me when I don't know the characters. It's interesting learning about them from people on the boards like this one. I didn't know who Hellboy was before reading about Indy but now thanks to this set and the goss on the movie he sounds pretty cool and I'm looking forward to playing him. Plus his sculpt is awesome. Is it just me or is there a high female ratio in this set, particularly hot ones? Maybe that's why this sets so attractive. Witchblade, Danger Girl, Shi, Arwyn, Aphrodite, Avengelyn, Kabuki, who knows who else. Top Cow and Crossgen have plenty of other prominent female characters. I'd Like to see an Aspen figure, half clear and watery, half flesh painted. And Sydney Savage, we need more Australian clix, especially ones in tight leather body suits who carry whips. What about Gen 13? They need something from them in this set, unless maybe they'll end up part of DC.

Hilarious.

All along I figured they'd hit us with some AMAZING looking preview at some point, which they've done, and that we'd be able to hear resolve shattering all over HCRealms, which we currently are.

Now I'm waiting for the Marvel gang to declare that Indy is better than DC and the DC faction to swear Indy's better than Marvel. :p

A couple of things -

As posted above, there will be no Spawn and I have it from a very good source there will also be NO TMNT in this set. Yes, it is sad... but wait...

The team abilities are based by comic companies (if the Judge Dredd Promo Clix is any indication), so it is very possible that a lot of individual characters who aren't part of the main companies represented in Indy Clix may not have team abilities.

We all know this set should be very B/C/F - RCE Heavy, which should make for a lot of new "must have" pieces for gameplay.

Since most of the Indy world tends to be heroes who don't wear tights and have some unconventional outfits - this will be one of the best sets to get mod parts from. The dials should also add some variety to certain stereotypes (ie, a standard BCF person has Stealth and a decent attack value) to add some interesting variety (I hope Indy will have good bases in conjunction with each other so I can base those TMNT mods).

A lot of people play Clix who no longer or never did collect comic books (I know, it's just as shocking to me). We have a group of kids at my venue who think comics are dumb, but they love HeroClix. Others have got back into comics because they didn't know who "said" character was or needed reference material for a mod/repaint. Character familiaraity helps, but with HC having the popularity it has now (which came from that recognition), it's getting to the point where it can support its own name (as long as Marvel and DC keep having a set on the horizon to maintain the initial popularity).

I think before the set comes out a lot more people will be buying it... and I also believe that the average HC player will end up collecting most or all of this set. Even the players who are fairly against it will probably pick up a few pieces/packs just to stay competitive.

All in all, Indy Clix is a good thing and a good test to see how HC does with a "less popular/mainstream" set. I am confident it will do well and I will be collecting a full set, although I only know a few of the characters (some of which I don't like) and the people I wanted in it on't be there. Inevitably it is just a game... and the more pieces/variety you have, the more you can do with it. Just some random thoughts...

I was discussing this with some friends, and have a prediction:

Starter and booster sales will likely be lower than Marvel and DC, but the singles market will be *huge*.

With so many different groups of characters represented, a lot of collectors will only want to get their particular favorites. For example, one guy may only want Danger Girl, while another wants 2000 AD and yet another wants Top Cow.

In addition, we have to assume that a handful of pieces will be considered essential for competitive play. Those pieces will also fetch strong interest as singles.

Just a guess, but it sticks with me...

Once again, I think this post represents the misconception that these figures MUST be made up to mirror comic book logic and continuity. 96 unique characters? Sure, that'd be very cool. Except that WK IS a capitalist entity and that would limit there potential for profit and, like you said, make it #### near impossible for the average player to get his/her hands on them all without going (more) broke in the process.
R, E and V versions don't necessarily represent the actual age or manifestations of the characters. Its a game, first and foremost, therefore the figures have to be made playable. If I want to get Hellboy into the game but can't afford his Vet points, I can opt for the Exp version.
Instead of thinking rookie, experienced and veteran...try thinking of the ranking system like they do it in Mage Knight: weak, standard and tough.

The figs look great... but it's wierd that they would preview this set before DC comes out. They could be competing against themselves for that one dollar the kid down the street has to give. Have they done this before?

Still not getting indy though - not enough dough.

I'm on the other side from Thunderbolt... I grew up DC, so I collect all of that & just get the good pieces out of Marvel (& my pocketbook thanks me). Indy it all depends. I'll get a case & hope that the Uniques I pull are of Characters I don't like. You see this way I can sell them & get most of my money back, but more than likely get most/all the REVs. Of course if thatamazing Witchblade sculpt is a Unique, then I'm going to have to keep that... Quick list of what I must have.

Usagi Yojimbo (Must have!!!)
Shi (cool sculpt)
Kabuki (cool sculpt)
Witchblade & Hellboy (for looks)
Crossgen stuff (hoping for Sephi & Ilan from Meridian)

future sets:

TMNT (any & all they put out)
Savage Dragon
Spawn(the most powerful clix ever?!?)

& if the playability is high I might just collect the whole dern thing.

Couple of things, have they actually said that there will be REV versions of the characters anywhere? Maybe they're *not* going to do that with the Indy clix. If not, then things could get *very* interesting!

Also, where is this announcement coming from, I couldn't find it on the WizKids site?

IMHO, there are only 96 figures in this line b/c they probably opted for no generics for this set. Take out the AIM/HYDRA?HAND figures from the other sets and voila - 96 figs, basically.

As for people who say they won't play the set because they don't know the figs, I say, oh yah? Well, please tell me which title the Con Artist appeared in, or the Paramedic. People play figures b/c they are good figs, plain and simple. Indy will offer more good figs and will give collectors 1 more set to buy. Something for everyone.

Though I support your opinion....I too wish only the best for indyclix..I wouldn't use some of your examples...

The Paramedic anyways is based on the series of comics highlighting everyday heroes in the aftermath of 9/11. She was from the Wagon I believe (an ambulance).

I have trouble believing they'd bother on a set this small - either there would be two wildly different releases (if eight figures means, say, six rev's and 2 uniques, that's over 20% of the set) or it's too small a difference to justify the cost (if eight figures only means two revs and two uniques) of producing two different sets of boosters with different figure distribution.

yeah like i said earlier indy clix looks cool, im really happy that hellboy is confirmed in it, and has a cool sculpt. But i can't help but be disappointed, i mean no thundercats no tmnt, thats the whole reason i wanted indyclix, and if there not in there, it just losses value in my eyes. I mean judge dredd, no offence to people who like him, but i think he is just lame, and im not very excited about him and all his weird friends with guns. chase_jyd
06/19/2003, 23:34
I recognize everyone on the list so far, will have to see if that holds true when the whole thing is revealed.
Regardless, I think I'm going to get a case. Partly to have new dials and new options to play with, and partly to get a couple favorites fgrom the set, but mostly just to support indyclix.
Don't see your favorite characters in this one? Well, if indyclix bombs you're not going to either. A lot of creators are holding back because they can't be sure if this is going to die on the shelves, or if this is positive exposure for their characters. If it does well, we stand a very good chance of seeing some of those characters people were hoping to see in this set.
In the long run, there's a bunch of characters I'd love to see in clix, and I'm definitely not going to catch all of them here. But as with DC and Marvel, I'm willing to take what I can get for the time being, and look forward to the day the people I really want to see come out in clix.

Like say, Alan Scott, Dr. Fate, Dr. Mid-Nite, Namor, Loki...

I know Hellboy is Darkhorse, but Darkhorse wasn't a confirmed as a company to be in IndyClix by WizKids at WizardWorld East. What this means is that Hellboy (being artist owned) was licensed seperately from the rest of the Darkhorse crew. It also means a handful of other artist-owned creations will probably pop up. WizKids was bragging (and rightfully so) about the amount of licenses they had to acquire to create IndyClix. That could also mean that the individual artist characters may not have team (company) abilities.

Kensou, you formula is a good framework, but I doubt they'll stick to it that strictly...

Kensou, I think you completely missed the point of my comment. I was questioning the point of having the REV in this set since most of the characters haven't changed that much. Most of the characters listed do not have the extensive changes that the other companies have to puit into their characters to keep them fresh. The independent scene is more about writing to a certain audience rather than trying to get everyone to like it. Thus, most of the independent characters stay a lot more true to their roots and don't change much.

Regardless of their tenure in comicdom, I strong believe this set will be R/E/V based with Uniques. It will probably have the same ration as the previous sets (12 Uniques). Do I want them to do this? It looks to me like:

7 known companies
2000AD
DarkHorse - Hellboy
TopCow
David Mack - Kabuki
Danger Girl
Shi
CrossGen

I have a hard time believing the 40 different figs will divided evenly among the companies. Top Cow, Crossgen and 2000AD will get more characters than Kabuki or Shi. Danger Girl might get 5 figures, Hellboy might get 4-5. Shi is getting 4-5. Kabuki 2-3. That leaves 22-26 for the big 3 companies.
There are still a lot of unknowns about this set.
We will know all soon. There are lots of conventions this summer.

Actually, I'd like to see Battle of the Planets clix, but that's just me. TMNT would be cool, and even though I think Erik Larson is a moron and way, way, way too full of himself, I will give credit where credit is due. Unlike his other Image counterparts, he's kept a tight reign on Savage Dragon. He can truly say SD is his own character, and only he will determine the characters fate. (Unlike good ol' McFarlaine, who said he'd be the only one to touch Spawn, until the moolah started rolling in.)

BTW, in answer to the question of when this will premiere, its September.

PEACE!!!!

My wife desperately wants to know if Indyclix will feature Linsner's character Dawn.
She's a big Dawn fan and she wants one badly.
She'd like Battle of the Planets too... any truth to that rumor?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I am SO glad we are not getting Spawn - and I don't personaly like the Witchblade sculpt, but I would love to see THUNDERAgents, and possibly the Authority, DNAgents, Elementals, and Hardcorps.

(Ducks under flying crockery, etc etc)

Having said that, the rest look great, and I will get the set anyway.

I REALLY hope the "different figs in the UK release" rumour is false...

anyone know for sure ?

LoL

If they're no Dark Horse on board this time , that mean's no Mask figure. Not really familar with any of their other characters I'm sad to say.

But still there's always the next set if this one is successful and they may just get enough time to secure that licence.

I just wish to mention that alot of figures may not be viable due to licensing issues... I'm thinking TMNT, GI Joe, Masters of the Universe and possibly even the likes of Thundercats may never come out due to the licenses for such figures being made by other companies. I fear the worst with TMNT...

here is one for u my friend  ... i hope they show the voluptuosness of the danger girl clix quite well...hehe...

and yeah i thought that Danger girl belonged to DC as well since they bought Cliffhanger...

can't wait to c the Danger Girl team ability(if there is one...) and the clix they have to do for Natlalie Kassle as team DG and as a gad gurl...

Actually that has been a bone of contention for me. If we ever see any Wildstorm characters like Authority, Stormwatch, WildCATS, Gen13, DV8, Team7, Wetworks, or Deathblow..... will they be in a DC set or an Indy set? So far we know that Danger Girl is in INdy even though she is considered to be a DC "owned" character. In truth those characters are owned by J. Scott Campbell and were merely being published by DC through three subsidiary companies. But that still leads back to Wildstorm actually being bought by DC. What do you all think, will we ever get a Grifter, Zealot, Rainmaker, Pilgrim, Dozer, or Backlash so I can stop modding them for everyone around here?

I suspect the non-DCU Wildstorm characters won't show up in DC Heroclix, at the very least. If they think there's a demand for it, they may get their own expansion - possibly under the banner of DC Clix, most likely not - but there's not much overlap between their audience and mainstream DC. No moreso than any other two universes/companies/imprints/etc. anyway.

Until and unless they actually integrate the characters into the DC Universe, like they did with the Charlton and Fawcett characters they acquired (Blue Beetle, The Question, Captain Marvel and his family of allies & villains...) I expect that if they show up at all it'll be as Indy rather than DC. DC should really only be those characters that do/could interact within the continuity.

Now, I wasn't going to go after these like the other two, and while my mind is not totally made up, there may be a few I may have to get-just depends on who they are, and how playable they are.

epitomizes the success of the Independent comic industry? Give me a freakin' break. Spawn only epitomizes the selling out of the independance movement. If you are looking for representations of indy's, Look at Cerberus, TMNT, Poison Elves, not the sellouts from Image.

Someone tell me, please. Who would I have to kill to get Poison Elves clicks? Sure, it'd mostly be a lot of b/c/f, but that's fine. I'd love a Unique Parintachin at the very least, along with a Luse r/e/v. Dogwitch could also make a few fun figures too.

Few points.
This looks like a previews ad. The Previews for September releases comes out Wednesday therfor I would assume that this will be released in the last week of September...
Second point. Danger Girl is J. Scott Campbell's to license out hence having action figure made by Todd McFarlane rather than DC direct and them being in Indyclix. I imagine that Wildstorm clix (IE the characters such as Wildcats that were actually sold to DC will be produced under the DC license... Whether that means they will be an Expansion under DC, a new subdivision (IE wildstorm clix) or not be made at all remains to be seen.
Third point TMNT, Thundercats and especially GI Joe and Transformers are probably never going to be clix as their licenses at the "toy" level are controlled by big names like Mattel and Hasbro.
As much as I hate to say it I don't think we will see Grendel clix this time around.

Well, as a newbie, I won't make any predictions as to the success of the line, but I'm amongst those that are jazzed for Hellboy figures. That alone makes me want to buy to make the line a success so we can see more in the future (although I think the observation that singles on eBay will be hot is an astute one).

Maybe this is blasphemy, but if I could trade a unique Hellboy for another member of his cast, I'd be happy with that. My hope is that with the movie coming out next year, they'll allot a few figures to Hellboy folks. I'd like to see something like:

REV Hellboy
REV Abe Sapien
Unique Rasputin
Unique Liz Sherman

WizKids would be offering me a high gratification level if they did something like that. And then save Roger the Homunculus for an expansion (wishful thinking? - sure).

To extend the pipe dream, I'd like to see more from Dark Horse in the way of the Nevermen (could almost do them as a kind of Indie generic, since, statistically they'd be about the same). I'd love to include The Murderist on a team.

Hi everybody. I'm new to this message board but I've been playing Heroclix since the begining.

The reason I posted to this thread first is that I'm huge Crossgen fan and I'm really looking forward to the new set with CG figures in it. I've also noticed not to many people here know much about Crosssgen. So I'd be happy answer any questions you've got about the characters.

FYI: I've been collecting comics for about 20 years. Most Marvel and DC.

I with you on the whole Crossgen thing. I have every issue they have put out since the begining. I even have all the customer review copies and tons of signed stuff from conventions. They are some of the best books out there. I can wait until they get here. I hope the have some Negations clix. Sam is just going to be a monster clix. Arwyn should have RCE and energy explosion. Boon should have CCE. I hope they sell some at the San Diego Con in a couple weeks. I'll do some heavy trading to get them. I'm already planning a trip to Texas for the IndyClix World Championships.

Rant On:

I just waded through 10 pages of posts, most of which read like this:

"I don't know any of the characters in IndyClix, so I'm not gonna buy it"

or this:

"Who is that? I don't know them. WHy aren't they making this figure or that figure from my favorite comic that hasn't been published in ten years"

or this:

Why no TMNT, Spawn, etc....

Geeze people...get over it already...I can only imagine what kind of licensing nightmare that the good folks at WK had to go through to get the 96 figures that are in the game. I'd love to see some of the prototypes for the figures that couldn't be made due to licensing issues...and personally, I'll take what I can get. Licensing is a hugely complex issue, and I'm thankful to the people who had to get everything together for us players. As soon as they announced Indyclix I got excited, if nothing else, we'd get characters that would NEVER, EVER appear in the DCU or the Marvel U, and we could truly make dream teams. Sure, there's cross-overs in comics, but you know, for the most part, they suck. I've never read a cross-over comic I liked (ok, maybe not never, Batman/Hellboy/Starman was fantastic, but there's an exception to every rule. Oh yeah, and the two Batman/Grendel series were good, but that's it.)

Now I'm not saying that a set of Battle of the Planets HC wouldn't be cool. THey would. Plus, I personally wouldn't mind Thundercats, or even TMNT...but for some reason the owners of those properties didn't want to participate this time around. Maybe if we all buy a bunch of Indyclix and make it a huge success, those property owners will think twice about the concept and approve the licensing for the expansion. Or maybe instead of whining about it here on the boards, you could write the license holders and imform them about how cool the game is and that you as loyal supporters of their properties would like to see them participate. THat's what I'm going to do. I want to see Grendel as a HC, and I'm going to write Matt Wagner and Diana Schutz and let them know that I, as a hugely loyal supporter of all things Grendel (and if you don't believe me, click on www.geocities.com/wmnoe/grendel.html (my website)

And then you've got people wanting Heroclix for weird stuff, like Strangers in Paradise! Now, don't get me wrong, I love SiP, and I have every issue, but for pete's sake, I don't want Heroclix of Francine or Katchoo. Action figures - sure. Statues & Busts, absolutely. Games? Nope. That's just too weird.

Bone Heroclix? What, how, why? Whatever...

It's a COMBAT game. Think characters that can do COMBAT!

That's it. Rant off.

Now, as to my point...

I would really, really like to know if the rumor that 8 figures will be exclusive to Europe, is true.

I would also like to know if the set is going to follow the three 96 figure expansions, with REV's, or if quite possibly they didn't do REV versions this time around...but then if I were WK, I wouldn't change the format at all. Why mess with something that works. That's like moving the Simpsons from Sunday to Thursdays. Oh wait, they did that for awhile.

Also, is there an accurate list of figures yet?
