Got Hulk?

Think it was great, or have you seen better?

Vote for your favorite comic book based movie, then tell us a little about why you thought it was the best.

Movies that didn't make the list:

Batman 2: There were killer penguins with rockets on their backs! (and people think Shumacher ruined the franchise).
Batman 3: Fair movie, but maybe the director should cut back to just 10 cups of coffee
Batman 4: You will belive a batman movie can suck

Superman 3: Richard Prior as a computer genius villian
Superman 4: Made Batman 4 look like Citizen Kane.

spiderman was my fave so far. it was the perfect meld of hollywood and comicdom. great acting. great script. great effects. captured the identity of the hero. no downtime. little "director" straying from the "reality of the comic".

I waited for Spider-Man ever since I saw the first teaser poster in a movie theatre in 1978 when I was nine years old. Im 33 now and I was more excited to see this movie than any I can remember over the last many years. The movie was awesome and did not dissappoint me at all... The Crow would be my 2nd favorite....

Lets lsee. Hmm that Dolph Lungren movie called the Punisher was decen... WAIT what I am I saying??!! Ah how about Blade. I loved it. How hard is to mess that comic up? Oh wait what about that obscure FF movie or the Captain America.... Arggggg! I did it again! I need an enema:rolleyes:

What about Howard the Duck?
..or not.

I picked X-men because it pretty much started the recent comic-to-movie trend. Original, but true to the comics, story. I didn't like the second one as much, too many characters.

The Crow. Acting was amazing, plot was great, actions scenes were fantastic. Such a great movie that every Crow movie after it, even though they have good actors and decent plots, are not even comparable to Brandon Lee's performance.

Heimdall
06/23/2003, 06:19
Have not seen Daredevil, Hulk or Spiderman. Was amazed by X-Men and X-2, but thought there were to many modifications made so it is a little bit off of the comic. Collossus was cool, Mystique was cool, Magneto was cool, Storm was cool and Wolverine sucked. Sorry but Wolvie has ever been one of my favourites, but not in this film. What i missed: Blob, Avalanche and Juggernaut (maybe in X-3) as well as a greater appearance by Collossus, McCoy (not only in a video-interview) Shadowcat and maybe the appearance of some of the mutants show on the screen in Strykers office.

Heimdall

P.S.:

I never liked any Superman movie (but i like the sequal 'Lois and Clark') or the Batman movies (but most of the villains were played by skilled actors who really impersonated them like it was on acting as Riddler, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Joker and Two Face).

My top five:

1. X2
2. X-Men
3. Spider-Man
4. Super-Man 1
5. The Crow

Nothing beats seeing Wolverine go into a berserker rage and leaving a pile of bodies behind him. And Alan Cumming WAS Nightcrawler!

X-Men was just a great introduction to the movie versions of characters I've known and loved my whole 20 years of life.

Spider-Man had the perfect "My life sucks, but I have cool powers" story. Which is the story of Spidey's life.

Superman? You will believe a man can fly. 'Nuff said.

And the Crow proved that you don't have to be a comic icon to make it to the big screen in a movie that did a heck of a job in giving of the vibe of the original comic. RIP Brandon Lee.

I'll shut up now.

all ill say is that it is EASILY the best bat-flick

I voted Hulk as #1 because it was very strong (no pun intended) in it's storytelling and action sequences. And call me crazy but I thought it had the best cut scenes since Bram Stoker's Dracula.

X2 has to be #2. Not as strong of a story, but who cares! Nightcrawler and the visual effects dominated the movie. And no big plot holes (always a plus)

Batman has slipped to #3 but still an awesome movie overall.I can't wait for Darren Aranofsky's Batman: Year One to reclaim Bats proper place at the top.

#4 Spider-Man. I don't think there could have been a better translation to the big screen, but it lost points for the Green Goblin's costume.

#5 the original Superman movie. I was 3 years old when I saw it the first time, and yes, I belived a man could fly. So much so that when I got my superman PJ's for Christmas, I jumped off of my stairs (attempting the classic "up, up and away") and sprained my ankle pretty bad.

Ah... the memories!

My picks

1. X-2, Great movie. Super Actors (Stewart, Jackman and McKellen), FX are simply awesome. Keeps pretty close to the comic book.

2. Superman II-The Villians were sweet. The fight seen in downtown metropolis was pretty cool (Considering the time and what was available). Throw out the lameo plastic "S" of the shirt and the movie rocks.

3. Batman-Michael Keaton is the best Batman. Joker was what you expected to be. Bats and his toys saved his butt every scene. Prince sound track was a little corny, but elfman who did the score. He nailed it perfectly.

4. Blade-Never read the comics, the movie wanted to read a few issues. It put Marvel on the map on how to make a comic movie.

5. Spiderman-I want to be bitten by a Spider so I can be buff and dodge punches like NEO. Sweet.

All-time Stinkers (Movies that were actually released in video or TV)
1. Spawn-McFarlene, How can you live with yourself? This movie blew chunks in so many ways.

2. Nick Fury-Ugh!!! What the Heck!!!

3. Danger Girl-Did they read the comics and think this was a good idea? Only seen parts of it, the parts I did made me want to watch Batman 4.

4. Batman 4-Darn you to heck Schumalcher!!! The villians and the actors were ok. The plot and the script sucked big donkey balls. I was waiting for "Bam", "Biff" and "Swat" to show up on the screen.

5. Superman III and IV-These movies were so wrong on so many levels. A super computer gone crazy designed by Richard Pryor. Yikes!!! What drugs were they smoking when they came up with that idea. A clone of superman, that was born in the sun. His weakness is darkness?!?!?! Hey supes!! Just fight in the shade the whole time. Or just wait until night time and kick Luthors butt.

Superman I wins out - the ending was a mess, but that can be said of EVERY COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER.

Spider-Man is a close second - while I didn't thinkit quite achived the heights of Superman (especially the first hour), it didn't get much wrong either. Mainly just the draggy bits with MJ.

Superman II probably takes third - I think Terence Stamp's Zod might be the best villain to date in any of the superhero films.

My fourth isn't on the list, but it's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. By a HUGE margin, the best Batman flick.

Fifth is a toss-up - probably Blade II, but X-Men and X-Men II are close too, and Blade I and Hulk are right behind them. Then you get to the first two Btaman and Daredevil.Rounding out my bottom five:

Worst: Batman & Robin (Worst movie ever. In any genre)
Penultimate: Superman IV (You'll believe a franchise can die)
Antepenulitmate: Batman Forever (Jim Carrey was good as the Riddler. Rest of the movie was verging towards B & R territory)
Fourth worst: Probably Fantastic Four. Yikes.
Fifth worst: Captain America. Ugh.

Besides Nick Fury, Punisher, TMNT (all of them), and the other ones azs listed:

Tank Girl
Swamp Thing I & II
Supergirl
Captain America
Fantastic Four (you can find this never released movie at any convention)
Batman the Movie (Adam West/Burt Ward)
Flash Gordon (Awesome theme song)

If we are gonna talk TV then:
Trial of the Hulk
Death of the Hulk
Justice League (pilot)
Flash (pilot)
Justice League Roast (there were 2 of these)

And what about animated movies???

GeorgeDaGreat
06/23/2003, 11:47
X-2 all the way.

Now my question is why wasn't TMNT series on there?

If TMNT 2 was on there I so woulda picked it.

How can we have Superman part II on this poll and not Batman Returns? I don't know...Batman Returns wasn't bad, a little too under the control of Tim Burton's insanity but it had some great moments and an amazing set. Superman II is very entertaining (to laugh at especially) but by no means less campy than Batman Returns.

Also, Spawn was a horrible movie.

Being the semi-mushy girl that I am I have to go with The Crow.

Besides Brandon Lee was so hot!

The Stinger
06/23/2003, 13:44
X-2 number 1, simply because it didnt have to deal with character establishment and could focus on straight action

Spiderman at #2. Spiderman kicks all bootay. The sequel will be the greatest thing my eyes will ever see Im sure.

HULK was a tragedy. Total rework of his origin, and only 25 minutes of HULK out of a movie well over 2 hours long. BORING.

I paid to see HULK SMASH, not Bruce Banner.

Snow_Bunny
06/23/2003, 14:10
But the story of the hulk isn't really about the hulk. It's more so the story of a man comming to terms with his emotions. Have you read the hulk comic as of late? hulk hardly ever shows up.

The hulk movie wasn't marketed very well. They marketed it as a action movie/ kid flick. When it was more of a drama.

Briel
06/23/2003, 14:56
No love for Adam West's Batman The Movie?

Well he's a pulp hero technically, but The Shadow is the best comic hero movie I've seen. Seamlessly blending the novels and radio series together.

SLAYER X
06/23/2003, 15:09
I have to say of all these Hulk is my number one, the charicters are more fleshed out than any others and the story is very well adapted.
2. Superman - Christopher Reeve is still the Superman all others will be judged by.
3.Spider-Man - The feel of it was perfect
4. Batman- Nicholson made this movie.
5.Blade- It's just cool
Other Honorable mentions-
The Crow- there is something undefineable about this movie that makes it so good.
TMNT 1, Superman 2, X-men 1&2

overkill
06/23/2003, 21:38
Spiderman -The best superhero movie ever imo. Directed by probably the best superhero action director ever, fan-favorite Sam Raimi.

Superman -Made me believe a man could fly, even though his landings were a bit Peter Pan-esque

Xmen -The first team movie of the big two not counting the unreleased (and deservedly so) Fantastic Four. It's a great team flick.

Batman -Made me believe that if Michael Keaton can be a great Batman/Wayne, all things are possible.

Hulk -WAY better than some of the bad press it's been getting. They got the rampages down perfectly, they got Banner's repressive angst down perfectly, and that's all that matters.

So many others... but those are tops in my book.

Worst? Batman IV. It's not even close.

Just my .02,
Rick

I can't pick a number 1, it's a tie between Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and X-Men. I also like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Probably more than I did as a kid, because I understand some of the dialogue a bit better now.

While Hulk, Daredevil, The X's and Bats were all great, nothing compares to Spiderman. However, I've never seen any Supermen, or the early 90's late 80's stuff. (Captain America, Nick Fury, Punisher, F4) So my top 5 is like this:

1. Spiderman
2. Hulk
3. X-Men
4. Daredevil
5. X2

Welcome to the glory age of Marvel comics! I still have high hopes for Iron Man, Iron Fist, F4 and Black Panther movies in the near future...

DONT VOTE FOR SPIDEY!

I love Spiderman and all,but the movie wa junk! It took me awhile to figure out why exactly is sucked and its because when he finally got to being spiderman,he didnt act like spiderman. spiderman is supposed to be making funny jokes and comments all the time. and the spider sense and stuff. ugh. it just didnt feel like spiderman to me. the best ones up there are X2, Crow, and Blade I, all flawless movies.

What no Zorro or Robin Hood? Just Kidding guys.
Anyhow I voted for Superman one. Big surprise coming from me, right:knockedou Hey say what you want about the rest of the cast but Chris' portrayl of Big Blue was flawless.
X-men one, and Spiderman were close except for the following reasons
Oh I absolutely loved spiderman except for the uncle Ben Death scene, no emotion, excepf for anger. I just couldn't buy the whole Uncle Ben, Peter Parker releationship. The rest of the movie rocked however.
As for the X-men Stewart and Jackman ruled, however, as a huge cyclops fan, back when i read them, the character left me cold. Again this was a great movie but I am giving you guys the nitpicking minor details why Supes edged the rest of them out of the running. I Hopes this explains things. Have fun BJ.

This is one of those real hard questions to answer.
The first X-men, Blade and Crow are all extreamly well done. The first Batman was incredable. (Tim Burton is a Genius)
And as for the rest, I'm a fan of comic book superhero's like most. I enjoy seeing these storys up on the big screen. I understand that there has to be some give for translating a story from one medium to another, So I do think they are all great.

What? No love for Daredevil? I for one, was pleasantly surprised. DD is my second favorite Marvel hero (after Cap of course), and I really expected to be angered with Ben Affleck. But for being such a pretty boy (who is nailing JLO, the stupid b@sta@rd), he did pretty well as Murdock/DD. The only part I found bad about the movie was the whole "let me woo you through fighting" thing that Murdock and Elektra went thru at the park. I thought the choreography was great, along with the wirework, but taken as part of the plot, it was plain dumb. But, c'mon who didn't like the end fight scene with Kingpin? Him sliding thru Fisk's legs and kicking out both of his kneecaps was awesome! Anyway, DD is still not my favorite....the Captain America movie still holds a special little place in my heart....JK

3. X-Men
4. TMNT 2: The Secret Of The Ooze
5. Men In Black

Top 5:
5. Blade 2
4. X2: X-Men United
3. Daredevil / Matrix
2. The Crow
1. {tie} Spider-Man / Batman

I can never pull myself to choose between Spidy or the Joker. I mean, Spider-Man was one of the most accurate adaption from a comic done in a long while, excluding the few tweaks to make it more doable in film <such as the web shooters>. But then with Batman, everybody looks like they should. I mean, Jack Nicholson<sp?> as the Joker is just pure genious.

And if anybody believes Jack to be too old to play the Joker again <which, imo, is the only way to breath life into the fading movie line>, they should see Anger Management. The man is the Joker.

While I have been enjoying all the comic book movies since the first (Superman), when I think of my favorite one of all, I'd have to still after all these years say Superman. It was just a good flick, Superman aside. Christopher Reeve was awesome as the Man of Steel. He looked the part. Hackman as Luthor was pretty freakin cool, too. It had action, comedy, drama, sex, the whole nine yards.

And when Lois died you could feel the emotion as Superman did the impossible to set things right. Mundanely Human and Impossibly Super-Human at the same time.

You're still the best, big blue.

When I first saw Xmen, I thought it was the best superhero movie I had ever seen. Then came Spiderman and X2 and even Hulk which really crowds the field.

I liked Superman 1 and 2 and Batman 1 &2 but Xmen seemed to capture the feel of comics better than those.

Of course, you haven't included my other favorite team movie Mystery Men! Hey even Road to Perdition is a comic book movie that was pretty well done. So many movies to rate!

I think I liked Xmen and Spiderman best with X2 a close second but that's just today. Tomorrow the order could change it all depends on whether I'm taking my meds

07/05/2003, 17:08
The BEST comic book movie was Ghost World. Thora Birch was perfectly cast and Steve Buscemi (sp?) gave a memorable performance as a loser/record collector.

Superman 1 was the best superhero movie although the effects are dated and it's hard to watch without thinking of how tragically the two main characters lives have turned out. I also hate time travel carp, but the rest of the film more than makes up for it.

"I am Lex Luthor, greatest crimanal mastermind the world has ever seen!"

Batman, no doubt about it. Gotham city was created by Burton's mind in that movie and it was great. Every character was perfectly adapted to the film (maybe gordon not, but he was a great actor). Keaton's bruce wayne it's not funny or little stupid as wayne looks sometimes in the comics (when he doesn't want people to realize he is batman), but he is really wonderful. And Joker... Jack's unbelievable :D
The music: elfman's masterpiece (besides Scissorhands)
The screenplay: very good...
The realization: perfect
The batmobile and the batwing: LOL!!!!

The Matrix was inspired by comic books in general. It was not a comic book first though. There was a comic book based on The Matrix that was released before the movie but it was created by the makers of the film in order to coincide with the film's release. It didn't inspire the W bros to make the movie.

I liked the first Batman, the first two Superman movies, and the last five Marvel movies. But one of my favorites is #### Tracy, although it based on a comic strip and not so much a comic book. It has one of the best casts of any comic movie including Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Madonna, Kathy Bates, #### Van Dyke, Warren Beatty, and alot of others. The way it was filmed is really cool too with the bright colors. It's just like the comic strip.

To me, Spider-Man's still the one to beat. X-Men 2 was phenomenal, but Spider-Man had that special something that sets it apart.

Personally, I'm getting frustrated with DC. They can churn out decent, true-to-character cartoons week after week: Batman, Superman, Justice League, *cough-Titans-cough*...Why can't they do this with the movies? Superman was great for its time, and Batman was pretty good, but everything else has been sadly disappointing.

DeltaPi1049
07/07/2003, 12:54
Spider-man for me, obviously. It was not the most accurate movies as said by others. Here is why:

1. SPIDEY's ORIGIN WAS CHANGED! No radioactive spider! Its genetically enhanced...ooooh!
1A. Webshooters
2. MJ instead of Gwen
3. Bonesaw instead of Crusher Hogan
4. MJ as gwen should have been killed (That I can understand why they changed)
5. Harry is not chic like James Franco, he is nerdy looking (ANother thing I can Understand why they changed)
6. No bat on the Goblin's glider!
7. Oscorp's deal with the army...
8. Osborn killing the scientist at his orgin.

All this was minor stuff that didnt make the movie bad at all. People forget how accurate X-Men is. The story may have been made up, but it was killer accurate. Also spidey was just fun to watch.

I think your list is very very incomplete.

For a very long time Ninja Turtles was one of the best comic book movies. Sure the dialog was pretty bad. But it captured the feel of the original comic series, and handled the subject matter very seriously with a very entertaining plot that followed the source material perfectly.

Along with Ninja Turtles another movie not on the list, but perhaps should be is #### Tracy. Sure a much older comic, and more a serial. The movie was brilliant. The director tried very hard to keep the style of the strip intact. Even as far as limiting the color hues in the movie.

More recently. Batman is one of the Best. Hulk is pretty good, but not the best. X-Men 2 is miles ahead the competition with creating an ongoing storyline within the sequels.

X-2 was the bomb, Nightcrawler was awesome. He took out like 15 guys in 2 mins. That was definitely the best thing i have seen ever. EVER I TELL YOU!!

Then it is Blade II the effects were definitely better than the first blade, and the fighting scenes are awesome.

Am I the only one that was spectacularly dissapointed with X-Men 2? I mean, last time I picked up the comics, Nightcrawler was a blue furry elf, not a scotsman covered in sticky blue paint.

Anyways, this is very disturbing. People are voting for SPAWN!! Alright, step forward and justify yourselves!

Madman
07/25/2003, 01:21
I voted for the first X-Men movie, but all of the Marvel based ones since have been excellant.

The Superman movies were seriously flawed with the lame Lex Luthor played by A great actor, Gene Hackman, but they were going for humor which failed miserably.

And I was equally disappointed with the Batman movies. As the series progressed, it was sad to see the move away from the atmospheric first film to something closer to the campy television show, and what was left was some wacked out hybrid that just didn't work very well. Too bad, too, as Batman IV started out so brilliantly with the duo free falling to the earth, but so badly stumbled with the hoaky Alfred/Batgirl subplot.

The "normal" movie critics around my household (we're all crazy about flicks - but I'm the only one with a real passion for super-heroes) all loved the X-Men movies while disdaining Hulk and Daredevil as being "too unrealistic" _but it is based on a comic book.

And about the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I don't understand what the movie critics all seemed to hate about this one, I thought it was great, but it did help that I was aquainted with all of the classic adventure stories the characters were based on.

07/28/2003, 10:34
I voted Hulk but X2 comes close. Daredevil was just... bleargh. As Comic Book Guy would no doubt say 'Worst. Adaption. Ever'. Well OK, it wasn't that bad. But it was bad.
You know what we need? A three hour animated Usagi Yojimbo movie. Now that would rock.

07/28/2003, 11:16
While flawed, I think Hulk was the most interesting film on this list.

(Of those I have seen, of course -- have never seen Spawn or The Crow.)

It would be great if the superhero genre could be explored without the 'blockbuster' expectation that has emerged over the last decade. While I enjoy (nay, love) action blockbusters, I think their boxoffice dominance has pretty much ruined filmmaking in general.

Hulk was such a welcome relief cuz it had some _real_ filmmaking tucked into it here and there. e.g., the recurring images of desert wood, the great (yet simple) scenes between Betty and General Ross, the unconscionable twistedness that just oozed out of David Banner. There is no short list that can cover everything of interest in the film.

Some of the other films on this list are very solid -- unimaginative retreads of the source material in many cases -- but solid nonetheless.

BAR NONE!
Acting was good story was cool plus a killer cast (Christopher Reeves, Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando).
Christopher Reeves looked in the spandex and didn't need any padding and the costume held dead on to the comic.
And lets be honest, to this day, if you don't get goose bumps when the song plays then he revels that red and yellow "S" under that mild mannered suit....you're not human and you probably don't have a heart!
The only problem was casting Margo Kidder as Louis Lane.
Lois is supposed to be a little cuter and sound less like a barfly.

X2 all the way, while Hulk was cool, you just can't make a good movie with a giant green thing that has a vocabulary of three words. X2 had it all, great acting excellent CGI, Nightcrawler, the introduction of Pheonix, and Halle Barry. Daredevil... (sniff) THEY BUTCHERED MY FAVORITE SUPERHERO!!!! the Blades were cool, and I'm looking forward to the Hellboy movie. you didn't mention LXG which wasn't a bad movie. and the crow... why do people still act that way. Batman I and II were great, III and IV sucked horribly, I have never seen superman, and spawn wasn't good at all. but its X2 closly followed by Batman I and II, and the Hulk (I think we all want to be like the Hulk)

umm.... did you just call Nightcrawler a scotsman? get your prioritys straight, he's german, and how do you think all the hair would have looked like on film, it would have looked terrible. and personally, I think the Tatoo's looked just as cool.

i have to go with spidey. i'd been waiting my whole life for it, and while it had problems, i was nearly in tears from joy because it had been done so well.

x2 would probably be next, followed closely by the crow, hulk, and daredevil. x1 is just off my top 5, i guess.

Batman - sure, the sets were awsome, the atmosphere was perfect, and the joker was beyond fantastic. but where the heck is batman? i watched it the other day and realized he's only on screen for like 5 minutes. "oh noo...the guy in the burdensome rubber suit...he's slowly walking this way!" is that supposed to intimidate me? DD was scarier, and the Batman Mask of the Phantasm movie kicks the carp out of any of the Batman movies, as somebody mentioned earlier.

Superman - similar to Batman, but in reverse. everything was perfect except for Luthor and the end. but those were enough of an annoyance to bump him down the list. maybe if i was old enough to remember it coming out i would have a different opinion, so i respect anybody putting it in their top slot.

Blade - meh

Blade II - didn't bother

Spawn? wtf? i met Micheal Jai White at a convention recently, actually i was in the bathroom peeing next to him lol. nice guy buy man that movie stunk. his costume looked cool at least, but he only wore it for thirty seconds.

The Daredevil movie was near dead on adaptation of the Frank Miller run combined with the "The Man without Fear" miniseries. That movie was the closest thing in the world to a true comic book adaptation. Nothing could have been done to improve the movie other than perhaps having DD play Russian Roulette with Bullseye in the hospital ala Miller's work. That movie was just freakin' awesome.

No, he was just calling the actor, Alan Cumming, who played Nightcrawler a scotsman.

you want to know a good movie? it's seabiscuit...probably one of the best ever. But hey Batman 1 and 2 were great and really showed the dark knight.....actually being dark. Jim Carrey was great but hey the neon colors and flashing lights just wasn't working for me. I mean they changed the batmobile!!!!! what was up with that and why did the wings move at the back. There are a lot of more problems with batman & robin which only little kids probably liked. The hulk was ok and so was x-men and daredevil and superman.....the fact is comic based movies just aren't as good as others mainly because people expect too much of it since they know the whole history of their favorite character and get disappointed when something else shows.....nuf said

I voted for The Crow. What an amazing performace by Brandon Lee! Such a great story, it really made the viewer care about the main character and feel for him.

Next I'd have to say Superman. Hellboy72 said "And lets be honest, to this day, if you don't get goose bumps when the song plays then he revels that red and yellow "S" under that mild mannered suit....you're not human and you probably don't have a heart!" and he couldn't have been more right.
When Christopher Reeve guest starred on Smallville they played a little bit of that music and I got the same feeling I did back in the theatre watching it for the first time.

X-Men comes in at #3 for me. Even though I wasn't wild about the plot. But Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was great. I'm really looking forward to Van Helsing!!

Same with X2, I liked the movie but I thought the plot was off.

I thought Blade was really good. I haven't seen the second one though.

Now with Daredevil I have too different views of it. The first time I saw it, I only saw the second half to it and I thought it was great! I couldn't wait to go back and see the first half. Then I saw the first half, and I was disappointed.

And I liked Spiderman a lot, except for that PowerRanger that Spiderman kept fighting! Needless to say I was left wanting with the Green Goblin's costume. I thought Willam Defoe was superb!

Ok.. so first off i voted for the least popular film apparently... which is sad considering freakin Spawn and Blade 2 are in there... anywho here is my reasons why, feel free to skip this as it will mainly be me enting my frustration and ####py films

Hulk: I liked it no real complaints, my only frustrations was i thought they coulda gotten a better guy to play bruce and i had seen the sci fi special before the film came out so e'ery time the hulk did stuff i kept seeing a little asian man doing it (ang lee)

Batman: so i liked this film, the first one at least, but tim burton has gone on record as saying that he has ne'er and will ne'er read a comic book, dude he should ne'er have been alowed to make a film based on a comic book

Superman 1: very cool, just not my favorite... Superman 2: not as good as 1 but still decent

The Crow: one of my all time favorite movies, just not my fav out of this list, but it friggin rocked, and if you haven't seen it go out and rent it now, seriously, i'll wait

.... ok now back to the rambling
Spiderman: it was ok, but i had issues with the history (yes i'm a big comic dork)

Spawn: how terrible was this flick, seriously, leguizamo (sp?) rocked and the costumes were cool but this flick blew hardcore BEEEEEEEEEP with BEEEEEEEP and some BEEEEEEP

Cool World: By far a masterpiece, brad pit is a great actor, as is the whole cast, what a wonderful animation/live action mix... serioulsy why did this not get more votes, have you guys just not seen it... it friggin rules (this would be the one i chose):) :)

X-men: rocked, a real film, one of my all time favs... loved it, just not as kool or cult as cool world... x-men2: liked the first one better, it was more of a film and the second one was more action, plus i missed storm's accent, it rocked in the first one

Daredevil: if you've e'er wondered how a movie can be ruined in the last few minutes then you need to see this one.... it was great until that terrible ending

Blade: another fun film that i enjoyed but it did not have the depth of some of the others on this list, it was kool though.... Blade2: C-r-a-p the movie, most all the fight scenes were fake and looked that way too, this movie was just lame

Well you made it through my rant, congrats... it's amazing how much time you can waste writing stuff when you are bored and broke and no one is around to go to bars.... mmm bars... anywho hope cool world get some more votes, come on people, support cool world... later

Thanks foley, got the answer across before I could ;)

I'm an actor, worked with Alex once long time ago, way before this, at a local theater. First I heard he was chosen for the part, I thought "Hey, I know him!" before I realised, "Wait, isn't Nighty from Germany?"

Okay, for me, it goes like this:

1. The Crow
Alex Proyas was a visionary (heck, he still would be, if he would just direct another #$%@ movie--I know, I know, he's got "Garage Days" in the can and "I, Robot" in the pipeline, but still...). And Brandon Lee...well, we all know about Brandon Lee by now. He was perfectly cast, to say the least. Simply a wonderful film. End of story.

2. Batman
An odd comic book movie in that going in, fanboys had plenty to be annoyed about (Michael Keaton? He's not Batman! Jack Nicholson? Who are they kidding? Tim Burton). After the credits rolled, however, they couldn't wait for more. Excellently executed.

3. Men In Black
In my opinion, this is one of only three comic-based movies that actually managed to improv upon its source material (with The Crow and #5 being the others). It seems like it's every producer's dream to take a character, change his or her background, origin, whatever, and hope it comes out even better than the comic. Of course, it almost never happens. Normally, that leaves us comic fans play the game of hoping that Hollywood doesn't "mess things up" too much. Well, Mr. Jones, Mr. Smith, Mr. Solomon and Mr. Sonnenfeld lived the dream, so to speak.

4. Unbreakable
M. Night Shyamalan is the man. And I hope I spelled his name right.

5. Blade
See #3. Ditto for this movie.

"Superman" 1 & 2 were decent, "Batman 2" was decent, "Spider-Man" was really good the first time I saw it (the dialogue especially just seems to fall apart upon repeated viewings, and Goblin had some serious mask problems), didn't care for "Hulk" too much, "Daredevil" relied too much on an over-the-top Bullseye (think about it--if Colin Farrell didn't take that role, that movie was sunk. Colin freakin' Farrell. And he saved the movie. How is it even possible for something like that too happen? Colin Farrell? Whatever. As Bill Simmons would say, I've stopped trying to figure it out. Let's move on...), "Blade II" was good but didn't make the cut, "MIB" II failed to deliver the same thrills as the original, and "X-Men One" was still too much about establishing its world--though it was a good flick. "X2" would probably finish at number 6 on my list. And "The League of Extraordanairy Gentlemen" would finish 86th. (Special shout-out--I hate that phrase--to "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" animated movie. That might be number 7 for me. Well done. Overly censored by WB brass, but still a good flick).

the best superhero movie was the first superman. christopher reeve was amazing, gene hackman had fun, and it retold the entire story beautifully. Then would be spiderman and the first batman, which did a great job of making superhero movies seem like great movies regardless of genre. the x-men movies were good, funny and intense, but a convoluted plot and 5 second long appearances by major x-men appeals to fanboys only, not a mostly clueless general public. the hulk was pretentious, and daredevil could've used some overall help, but it wasn't terrible. Batman and Robin was the reason i stopped talking to my best friend at the time. He liked it, and even though he had a car and a hot sister, it just wasn't worth it.

What the hell are you guys thinking? Even as a short fanfilm (IT SHOULD COUNT) Batman: Dead End was at least as good as any superhero movie. The effects are on par with I also liked TMNT 1 and Daredevil (who are you people who hate it, and what are you thinking?), and think they are highly underrated.

Batman: Dead End was still unreleased when this thread started. It's also not a movie, it's a short subject. If the thread were to be opened to short subject comic book related fan films, there would be THOUSANDS to choose from (80% of which is a waste of time).

People forget how accurate X-Men is. The story may have been made up, but it was killer accurate. Also spidey was just fun to watch. All this was minor stuff that didnt make the movie bad at all. People forget how accurate X-Men is. The story may have been made up, but it was killer accurate. Also spidey was just fun to watch.

Accurate? X-Men? Rogue hooking up with Wolvie to join the X-Men? No Beast, No Angel, (also, since there was no Ms. Marvel in this world, Rogue only has her power stealing abilities.). Were we reading the same X-Men? Also, X-2. General Stryker, not Reverend Stryker. Making him part of the Weapon X project and Mastermind's Dad was not most accurate either.

This above comment does not mean I didn't enjoy X-Men or X-2. They are both in my top five of comic to movie productions.

My list is a follows:

Spider-man. Despite turing Gwen into Mary Jane with a happy ending, and the Spider-man 2099 built in spinnerettes, it still stayed truer to the character than many other movies.

Daredevil: Great ride here! Jennifer Garner as Elektra. Hope the rumor of her getting a feature film of her own is true. Farrel as a truly psychotic Bullseye. But I still don't understand why Urich couldn't work for the Daily Bugle. Probalby licensed to Sony for the Spidey movies.

Both X movies. Effects and characters well developed. Waiting for Phoenix in X-3D the Final Fate of the X-Men (joke).

The First Superman: Always be a classic.

Batman Forever: Say what you will, but Kilmer made a great Wayne. Could have used a younger Robin, but Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face showed the same casting smarts as Nicholson as the Joker in the first Batman. (Is there anyone who has seen The Shining not recognize what a perfect choice Jack was for the Joker?).

Thats my A list, but I'm surprised noone has even mentioned "Mystery Men" I mean here was a Dark Horse production, brought to life in a wonderful way. The casting was great, and the satire and lampoon was well done. Bill Macy as the shoveler delivering the great line "I shovel well, I shovel real well." Its a great evening's distraction.

Later all.
