I received information that the production run for Clobber'n time has ended.
Can anyone confirm this to be true?

I just recieved an e-mail from I C O N distribution saying that they were told production will end on clobberin' time.

I guess that's as good as a confirmation:rolleyes:

Well, that does stink for folks who haven't pull 'crawler yet, but overall, its probably the weakest of the 3 expansions. Xplosion and Cosmic Justice are both far superior in variety and quality of characters and figures over Clobberin' Time.

PEACE!!!

Well it was the first expansion. It can't really stand alone like the first set can and Xplosion is still pretty new. So Clobberin Time is the first to go. Those familiar with games knew it was going to happen sooner or later.

My question is When are they going to ditch Infinity and have a new Marvel Starter?

I don't know how a bunch of X-Guys could EVER be considered variety and quality of characters. I got that set for Taskmaster and Iron Man. Clobberin' Time has a much better spread of figures from all over the Marvel Universe.
And how are Dr. Doom and the Fantastic Four not quality? How is Thor not quality? Since when are Boom-Boom and Typhoid Mary 'quality'. Bah!

Cosmic Justice is cool, though.

I've seen someone say this before (specifically, lauding Xplosion over CT), and it still surprises me. I think that the person who came closest was the one who suggested it had more to do with the age of the comics fan, and where the Fantastic Four and company rank on their list of favorite characters. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an either/or statement, and I'm not bashing XP (plenty of characters I was looking forward to in that set, too), but aside from getting many characters I was looking forward to, CT also brought us the first, IMHO, really good SHIELD figs with the Snipers and Mandroids.

Not a heated argument, but more in the way of an observation.

Stepping back to the initial post, I think it's important to note that despite the announcement going out that production's ceased, we have no idea how many hundreds or thousands of cases are warehoused or otherwise waiting along the shipping line.

All that said, I read the announcement about two weeks after buying, on a whim, a case of CT from someone on eBay. (I'd only bought loose boosters of this set previously; it was just after that set that I decided to simply buy a case of each new expansion of interest and trade for any missing pieces.)

The news made me feel even better about having bought it. When it arrived Monday and I unpacked it to not only get the only two uniques from that set I was missing (Spiral and Mojo) but among the extra uniques were several highly tradable items, such as another Spiral, a Super Skrull, six-armed Spidey and my third Nightcrawler. (I traded away the second Nightcrawler months ago for Thanos, Quasar, Nightmare and a unique Catwoman.) Once I see what I get in Cosmic Justice I'll have a better idea of what I want to trade for what.

Okay... I've talked more off-topic than on, so I'll shut up again.

The early rumor I heard was that the initial Marvel contract was for 5 sets, so I'm guessing that we have two more sets of expansion to go, with a new starter kicking off a new contract. On the other hand, depending upon whether or not some of the CT figs are redone for the next expansion (November, if I understand correctly) they might do a relaunch, complete with new starters, in the 5th set.

All pure speculation, of course.

The problem with that speculation is that the last I heard Marvel wasn't going to renew their contract. They wanted to start work on something similiar on their own. I seem to remember that they did that with Overpower as well. As soon as a couple other universes got signed up and made, especially when it was obvious that their characters weren't always going to win, they pulled out to make their own. I believe that game is called Recharge and it hasn't sold that well.

Oh, I know, and I've read the same rumors. I suppose it's best to recognize that any such decisions are out of our hands. Besides, when I think about it, none of it affects my decisions on what I want to buy.

Anyway, from the sound of things Marvel's undergoing some internal turmoil anyway - some big wheels seeing the publishing arm as somewhere between a nuisance and niche advertising for the "properties", i.e. the character names and likenesses. If they're seriously considering just farming out the production of the comics to other companies and studios, then the WizKids contract is probably considered small potatoes, is beneath the notice of those movers and shakers, and even if they do notice they'll see the current arrangement as just the sort of thing they'd want to do anyway. It may come down to the committment of whatever Marvel staffer is acting as their liason to WizKids and how swollen with overhead that department's become. So long as it's proving profitable and WizKids is handling most of the headache work, there'll be ample incentive to renew and allow WizKids (soon, essentially, a division of Topps) to keep doing the good work, viewing them as a subcontractor.

If my "grab bag" order of Marvel Heroclix is an indication, it's no surprise the CT is the first one to get phased out. I'd ordered a grab bag of 50 pieces (for $25) from an online dealer recently. 40 of 'em were from Clobbering Time.

I love the FF, and I LOVE Doom, but CT sucked. The list of useful CT pieces can be counted on two hands, while in XP and CJ (moreso XP) almost every figure is useful.
