Okay, I found a mapmaking website that looks oh-so-sweet! I can't post their web address 'cuz they're commercial, but here's a pic I grabbed from their e-newsletter! I put in a preorder for one... I can't wait to play on this thing!
This, combined with WK's new map sets should giv my Amazo PLENTY of room to clean up house! ;)

I think the guy's name is ClixMaps.com .... so....
Looks good, but how do I know these guys are legit?

Just my thought process...
Here's the way I figure it:
These guys took the time to register not one, but TWO domains related to each other. Domains aren't exactly cheap, either. There is some protection, too, since they are using PayPal. PP <snicker> has fraud protection, so I'm banking on them being on the up & up.
Besides, why take the time to design such an amazingly detailed map, and NOT be "legit"? I dunno.
Either way, I've placed my order for one of the promo maps. I'll let you know when I get mine :)
BTW - Drashia is correct; the guy's/gal's user name in the forum is "Clixmaps.com" - I guess it's safe to assume what their website address is! :) (natch)

Thanks for the PM.
Yeah I found it, but I just wanted to make sure. The more options the better.
Oh, and I like the maps, but I was thinking more on the lines of 3d as in buildings made outta foamboard, and props.
I just ordered the promo map, for $5.95 you can't go wrong ... I'm always looking for new maps to play on.

The map looks nice, but...
I really do not like the "3-D" aspect of this map. To get the look, they are "leaning" everything to give it depth (forced perspective??) and that does not lend itself well to this game.
You have walls taking up 1/2 a square. The silo type things are blocking a square as well. Lets not even get started opn the problems with the stairs.
I see what they are going for, but I personally prefer the regular old 2-D maps with clear defined borders. The graphics look great, but the attempt for a 3-D look does not come off well, IMHO.

DS-I'm sorry you're not too thrilled about the angle of our maps. We are constantly refining this map, but, as a promo, many of the refinements won't take place until the retail package is produced.
The walls & vats (silo-things) will be explained thoroughly in our rules sheet. Nothing extensive, just a sheet that explains the differences in our maps & traditional overhead maps. We hope to make gameplay more exciting, and offer up some creativity with blocking/hindering interpretations. That being said, we are looking at having our walls take up an entire space, so as to avoid confusion. Again, some adjustments won't make it on the promos.
Check with your retailer: several have ordered maps for use in marquees. Maybe try them that way.

It doesn't look difficult to play on - you just have to look at the 'footprint' of whatever structure you are close to and stay out of that. One concern that I have however is when playing from a perspective other than the 'bottom' of the map, the forced isometric perspective looked very weird to me. I put the demo map in photoshop and flipped it to see what it would look like to someone sitting at the other end of the table and tried to imagine playing from that perspective. It felt like my pieces were going to drop down off of the map, if that makes sense (which it probably doesn't :) )
The maps are undeniably nice to look at though. *sigh* Why couldn't WK have taken the time to make such nice maps for the starters. And don't get me started on the maps in the Adventure Kits - they look like they were drawn by an 8 year old on an Apple ][e.
The Apple ][e remark.

On their website, it says that they were going to have the rules for the maps posted over the weekend.
Has any one seen them? I would be curious to read them, before deciding to buy any maps.

Interesting. I have exactly the opposite reaction. The one thing that attracts me to these maps is the 3-D effect. The old Champions boxed game had a map just like this and so it appeals to my nostalgia.
Just goes to show you can't please everyone.

actually i know exactly what you mean grifter. but that feeling seems to be more on the computer then on the actual map. but its true the illusion can really mess with your eyes. if looking at the map upright, with figures on it, its creepy how everything looks like its suddenly standing up and figures even appear to be at different elevations. but upside down the effect is that of an Escher print.
another thing i noticed (and this goes for any map) no one ever really stays completely stationary on their respective side. usually everyone is up and about.

In the eternal words of that guy who pretended to be Steel: 'Holy Mackeral!'
Now that's what I call a map.
