The new HeroClix Map Sets are here! Click here (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/products.asp?cid=37864) for more info on the DC set, and here (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/products.asp?cid=37865) for more info on the Marvel set.

Besides the addition of new maps, probably the biggest addition to the game is the release of Bystander Tokens. Bystander Tokens represent the supporting casts of your favorite heroes, like Alfred with the Batman Ally team ability, or Mary Jane with the Spider-Man team ability.

Cool. Does anybody know if these tokens are considered part of a team build, or do they have an entirely separate set of rules?

I saw them last night. Just like regular figs, they've got the four stats, plus a range & a point cost (a couple even have team affiliation). Looks to me like you put them on your team like any other fig.

What the maps DC only stated 3 of the 4! If someone could post a pic or two of them and what the tokens are?

Thanks

Picked up the Marvel set today, it rocks. Though the Danger room is a bit more sparse then I would've liked. But the inside Avengers mansion is probably my new favorite map, very well made. Heres the details on the Marvel kit.

Maps:

Inside Avengers Mansion
Outside Avengers Mansion
Inside X-men Danger Room
Outside Xaviers Mansion

Tokens:
Jarvis (w/ Avengers team ability)
Henry Peter Gyrich
Mary Jane Watson-Parker (w/ Spidey team ability)
J. Jonah Jameson
Alicia Masters (w/ Fantastic Four team ability)
Betty Ross-Banner
Foggy Nelson
Deli Worker
Professor
Movie Star
Reporter
Politician

My friend picked up the DC pack, and thats awesome too, the Batcave is just too cool, and Alfred freakin rocks ! My favorite has to be Alicia Masters though, the FF team ability for only 5 points ! shes sweet. The scenarios are cool too, but I'm not gonna type them all out, go buy a pack, lol.

Listen to me: I love these tokens. I will now play mixed games all the time with them, and I'm putting on Alfred (Batman TA for 6 points), Jarvis (Avengers for 5) and Alica for 5 (FF team ability). Tonite we played with them, and DSF-00-0 coined a new term: "Broken Token" in reference to Alfred. There is now no point in using a Robin for Batman TA. Jarvis is the cheapest tie up piece in the game, and he moves for free. Mary Jane Parker-Watson has the Spiderman TA and can do the same. And my Doombots/V Thing/V Human Torch/E She-Hulk/Taskmaster/Dooms all have a new way of getting a free click of healing. These tokens are insane. Definately "Broken Tokens".

08/15/2003, 03:35
Oh, and the indoor/outdoor maps connect. THEY FREAKIN' CONNECT! YOU CAN PLAY FROM METROPOLIS INTO STAR LABS, AND THE AVENGERS MANSION INSIDE AND OUT! HOLY CROW!

Of course the no minds at whiz kids didn't proof read there stuff again. No mention of how many clicks the tokens take, assumed 1. But nonetheless new maps are always cool! Mission cards are a good idea (maybe they proof read them this time, last packs had arrows missing, totally unplayable) At least they had the good idea of linking the indoor and outdoor parts of avengers mansion together.

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the new capture rules yet. This is a huge addition to the game and will fundamentally change the way most games are played.

And yes, these tokens are insane. "Broken Token" indeed. I'm not so sure the capture option is going to effect game play very much as it appears to only apply to the tokens, not regular figures.

These are also great for Matermind figures. Toss a couple of civilians out and they automatically will take all the damage from an opponent's attack and only cost 3 to 5 points. Consider it "Collateral Damage" from trying to thwart the plans of Dooooooooooooooooom!!!!!

Is anyone else disappointed in the price of these? The msrp on wizkids site says $13.95. The store I visited last night had them for $12.99. But really, it's just paper and cardboard.

I was really expecting these to come in at 10$ or less, maybe $8.99.

Let's do the math. Starter set with 8 figs 20$. Booster 7$. 20 - 14 = 6$. So, the 'extra' stuff in the starter - map, rules, tokens, dice is 6$. For the Map packs, we get a second map, tokens, scenarios, but no figs. Certainly these could be priced at $10 or less.

I passed on the adventure packs because of the price too.

Consider this math:

Recently, everyone was all in a tizzy about the maps being offered by Xion Games(aka Clixmaps.com). They were selling a preview map for $6. That's for a one sided map. Sure, the graphics are sharper and more detailed, but that's still only one map for six bucks.

WK releases a pack for $14 that has two double sided maps. That's four maps for about the same cost as two of the home-grown version. Plus you toss in the tokens and the scenerios.

The price is fine, considering how boring the same old maps can get. I love the enhancements that the connectability of the maps provide, plus the tokens add another element that really makes the game fun. I want to toss a bunch of them out on the map and have them move randomly just for the heck of it. Block line of sight suddenly and make your charatcers have to adjust accordingly.

Is there any official word on whether or not Bystanders can be part of a team build? Their rules are grouped under "Map Scenario Rules", which suggests to me that they're only legal to play in scenarios. And that would seem to be the sane thing to do, given their point costs.

The tokens are a part of the map packs. They also come with eight scenerios specifically desigend with the new maps in mind. Very similar to the Play@home scenerios that were posted on the DC site.

I also got the impression that the Bystander markers are only for use with Scenario Rules. Otherwise, everyone could just toss Alfred, Jarvis and Alicia on a team and for 15 points all wildcards could use batman, Avangers and FF abilities.

I think that they were so concerned that their Eng/Fr/Sp rules fit on a single page, that they aren't as complete as they should be...

I just came up with an idea for an idea with the Avengers' Mansion. Take the 2 maps, build a team of good guys on 1 side inside the mansion, build a team of bad guys outside the mansion. Put Dr. Doom (either Exp or Vet) inside as the "bad guy" who is finally captured by the good guys & has promised the bad guys power & money if they free him from Avengers' Mansion. Good guys: Stop the attack & keep Dr. Doom imprisoned. Bad guys: Break into the mansion & free DOOM. the bad guy player gets control of Doom if a bad guy figure stops in an adjacent square next to DOOM. The next turn, DOOM is free to punish the evil rabble. Call it "Super Hero S.W.A.T."

Not my page! ;)

Picked it up from another Maps thread, but I assume they're for real ... Page three of another worthwhile maps thread (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57668&perpage=15&display=&pagenumber=3) See luisrm post #43.

"Tune in Tokyo"??!

The WK Web site states: "This Marvel Map Set introduces new game mechanics and fun, challenging, new game play to bring hours of extra excitement to every HeroClix challenge! " so the capture business may not be just limited to scenarios ... OTOH, there's a new FAQ that says nothing about capturing rules.

How did you see Betty and miss Lana Lang? :cross-eye
She must buy her bras in the maternity section!

No fair, DC has two tokens that can inflict damage.

Alicia would make a nice addition to the FF, if only their point costs weren't already set to round numbers...

Quick note to anyone drooling over using the Pogs or Capture rules from the Map Pack. The rules for pogs and capture rules are prefaced by 'Map Scenario Rules'. So if you feel the rules are broken, your Judge is perfectly valid in say 'No' to using the rules in a standard game.

I am so not impressed with the Marvel set. The Danger Room looks like garbage and all their scenarios are boring. Do you really think Wolverine will have a problem taking out 2 Hand Ninjas? Logan with flurry could do it in one attack! And where exactly on the map are the japanese gardens?

The DC one on the other hand is a million times better. The Batcave rules with a ton on hindering terrain spread out so Batman and his friends can hide and shoot from anywhere and not really have to worry about Energy Explosion. The scenarios are way better with a 1000 point team build, 15 turn free for all! Also the Arkham Asylum scenario looks like it could be fun with objects being thrown all over the place.

One small complaint though, there is still no water in the DC Maps to take real advantage of the swimming ability. The only water on the docks of the Xavier Mansion (waaaaay off in the corner) and in the Danger Room!?!

Its funny, the place I went to had the Marvel maps for $10 and the DC for $14. I and my judge friend thought that the $14 one was the mistake. We liked the addition of the bystanders, yet they just should have made them figures. Its kind of ####py that most of them can't do damage. They are human... whatever. I haven't seen the complete DC maps yet, but what I have seen so far I am way more impressed than the Marvel ones. It's awsome that the Avengers mansion maps connect, but the danger room looks a little lame. Oh yeah, whats the deal with the front of the Avengers mansion? Is that fence hindering terrain or what? I need some great clarifications on that. Another thing is that I'm curious to see how the actually Avengers mansion in the comics looks compared to the one on the map. I don't rember those two small shacks or anything. Well all in all I'm glad these things are finally here.

The STAR Labs/Metropolis Street connect too and IMO the Metropolis Street map is the best of them all. Some elevated terrain and lots or places to hide. Great map.

That and my venue gave me one set of each just for running events in his venue. Dude ROCKS!

Skeevo,
There really is no need to attempt to make fun of herohowdy's post.
His misuse of "there" is minor compared to typical forum dicussions. Besides, he is NOT publishing and selling a game. His point of WizKids not proofing and doing a poor job on the rules is very valid. The rules and explainations that came with these new map sets are terrible. These are the most inept rules they have come out with yet. They do not say whether the tokens and capture rules can or cannot be used outside the scenarios. What could be more obvious for a player to ask? It SHOULD be plainly stated in the rules. Yes, they are titled scenario rules... but that doesn't mean they couldn't be used in standard teams. Maybe, maybe not.
I'm just hoping the new rules due out with Indyclix are better and more complete or this game is going to be really messed up.

Well maybe if he was he'd be a bit more forgiving. WizKids is (AFAIK) staffed by humans: fallible creatures who make mistakes. At least they are good enough to cop to their mistakes and correct them.
