She’s charged with hunting down the scourge that is the Darkness, much to his chagrin. Magdalena’s full of surprises. She tends to sneak up on the Darkness a lot, so I gave her a bit of Stealth to start out. She’s also a lot tougher than she looks and seems to be able to stand up to some decent attacks without really being too inconvenienced. Because of this, I gave her a few clicks of Toughness. Her sword is represented by Blades/Claws/Fangs, no surprise there. She also carries a gun, so she has a decent ranged attack. Her Top Cow team ability allows her to move for free, which will help to get her into combat. She’s definitely an offense heavy piece, so sneak her up and let her go to work.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yeah, Indyclix seems to be full of different versions of Blade. This one especially. They should have given her 10 range, 2 bolts, and Battle Fury all the way down. Just to make her looks stupid.

Ahhh finally! The #1 reason I'm getting this set. Though she's only had a handful of appearances, she quickly gained her own fan following. Now she's finally getting more attention with another limited series coming very soon! She and Witchblade were both the feature characters at this year's MegaCon for those who went.

While all of the sculpts look cool, and I'll buy indyclix, where are the big hitters?
All of these characters so far have been good, but from what I've read, I don't see any front-line attackers or beat sticks. All of these clix would be great on clean-up duty, though.
Where is the V Doc Ock for this set? Mandarin? Batman? Nightwing? Doc Samson (as I understand it, some of you are partial to that green-haired Elvis impersonator)? Aquaman? even a misplaced firelord?!?
I guess I'm just going to have to wait for the set to come out, and keep an open mind until then.

Wow.
Stealth, B/C/F, tougness, free move, cloak, "religious sisterhood".
She's like a sweet female ninja. She's totally going to rock.

A woman with Stealth and BCFs!? How unexpected. We haven't seen anyone like that yet in the IndyClix previews. Thank god they didn't show a Hellboy or Judge Dredd figure.

wow this figure jsut makes me wanna buy indy clix even more, c'mon give the B/C/F a rest, give us a figure that is worth over 70 points, do something to draw people into the set, i had such high hopes for indy, now i just think its boring, and not worth my money, even though they could pull off some monumentally cool figures, but im really starting to doubt it.
Very nice sculpt and a very useful sounding description. The amount of Indy boosters I'm buying continues to raise with each preview or solid Indyclux info. Thanks WizKids.
As for the "heavy hitters", many of the previous heavy hitter clix weren't discovered until their dials were released. We assumed icons like Batman, Superman, etc would be big but we still didn't know until we saw the stats. Who knew V Nightwing and Doc Ock would proove as popular as they are?

Hmmm. So every IndyClix peice will apparently be under 100 points and have stealth, toughness, and BCF. Ummm, okay, teriffic...
Also, is anyone else a little put-off by the wording in the preview descriptions lately? They sound like a HCRealmer is designing these peices (not that that's a bad thing, mind you).
"I think she's tough, so I gave her Toughness."
"I think she's sneaky, so I gave her Stealth."
"I think she's hot, so I told the painters not to paint anything on her rumpus."
Okay, they didn't actually say that last one. But after looking at Angelus...

I totally agree...I've noticed the points, on average is like 50 points per character. Where are the heavy hitters? This set will be great for sealed booster tourneys, but they really need to show a character in the 100 pt. category. Hopefully Hellboy will be that character. Icksnay on the BCF already.

08/20/2003, 14:46
alright, great figure and all.
but something that struck me just now. all the indy figures' team abilities are just their publisher's names, except for hellboy with BPRD (or whatever the acronym is). so does this mean that every indy clix figure will have a team ability? all of them so far have.
CooperMcP
08/20/2003, 14:48
that would be insane if every figure had a team ability

Almost every darn figure has some kind of a sword or blade or some kind of a gun, or both. Pretty narrow in imagination and creativity as far as what this shows about the state of independent comics.
That whole side of the industry seems to be ruled by swords, huge guns and huge boobs.

OOoooohhh.....now that's a sweet sculpt. Haven't got a bloody clue as to who the character is, but it is a sweet sculpt nonetheless.
Indyclix was a cool concept that would have been much cooler if they had been able to recruit some of the bigger Image names. Most indy comics tend to go away from the super-hero stuff that this game has as its "front-line attackers". Lots of Indy will be second wave attackers and support pieces. If Wizkids had gotten the major characters that aren't there, like Savage Dragon, Spawn, the Wildstorm stuff, much like Image Overpower, then this set would be more along the lines of what has come before. Let's just wait and see what else comes out. I bet the Crossgen Sigil bearer characters are the all-powerful ones.
Although, I confess that I feel that an Indy clix game will feel like a game of Counter-Strike or Rainbow Six on a game board with 3d pieces with all the sneaking around and firing from stealth or getting in close for BCF attacks.

A very nice sculpt. I already coined the term "BabeClix" long ago when we actually had a Rumor Mill forum for Indy. The set is very female character heavy, but with all this great sculpts, I don't mind. WizKids could have had more diversity if they had used more of Top Cow's Cyperforce or Strykeforce characters (being more traditional super-hero types), but they didn't. It will be interesting how this game will play with so few flyers and so much Stealth/BCF. BTW we have seen one of the hitters - Angelus. I suspect that Darkness, Hellboy and Samandahl Rey will also be very strong. So far all we have seen are Top Cow and Danger Girl characters in the previews. If I remember right there are 5 other companies/ creators yet to be featured. Where are the rest?

If she's like Psylocke without the Enhancement and Incap (which it sounds like), I'll definitely play her in mixed.

*gasp* Stealth, BCF, and Toughness on a fig under 50 points! We’ve NEVER seen that in Heroclix yet!
Forget it. I have zero desire to buy IndyClix anymore. There is very little that they’ve shown us in this set that’s worth spending $7 a booster to obtain. I was sick to death of the cheap Stealth/BCF/Toughness combo by the time Xplosion came out, and that seems to be the entirety of IndyClix. The Danger Girls are okay for what they are (hard-to-hit tie up pieces), but they seem like they’ve pretty much sleepwalked through the design phase of this set and given us 31 flavors of vanilla.
Memo to Wizkids: when you’ve already given us two Electras, Black Panther, Blade, four versions of Wolverine, Sabretooth, Vampire Lackeys, Deathstryke, Hand Ninjas, Taskmaster and Typhoid Mary, please realize that the combination of Stealth and BCF isn’t something that will set the fans on fire when they see it.
Dear god... and this is just the Top Cow portion. We haven’t even seen anything from Shi or Kabuki yet.
Batman1983
08/20/2003, 16:43
remember they're under 50 points because BCF, Tough, BFury, & Stealth are all dirt cheap powers.... Thats why the first U elektra is so good... stats can still be good on cheap pieces.
This is certainly the best Indy Sculpt I have seen yet, and the Stats and cost sound fine.
At least the Ninja/Soldier Army that Shadow usualy uses against my Flier/Ranger/Healer Squads will now have some different personell !

As someone who knows very little about any of the universes of the indyclix companies, from what I've seen I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

Man, I gotta say this: I predict that all of the Kabuki characters won't have BCF. As a joke, that would be funny as hell. Honestly, though, and this is inside info, there was a WizKids contract signed that requires every Indy Clix character to have some power that requires a die roll (SS, Danger Girl, BCF, Impervious). Seriously. I'm not joking. If I was lying, then I wouldn't be as totally awesome or sweet as I am now.
With each sneak of Indy Clix, I want it less and less. There is just nothing in it that I want.
I think that the overall lack of discussion about this is the most telling thing strike against it. People just aren’t even interested enough in these figs to comment on them, and I hope that Wizkids notices this.

Heh heh, I can't wait until the REST of the figures finally come out and we'll all be talking about how great they are. All the sets have had plenty of suck in them, but that doesn't damage the whole set. I'm still going in on part of a case when they come out.

Its not that i really hate indy clix, i just want some variety. I mean how can u have a set full of figures who cost the same, and have all the same abilities, and expect it to sell well. So far i have just been disappointed in indy all together, i really wanted to see tmnt and thundercats, b/c i thoguht they all would have made great figs, and they al lwould have been fun to play, and would have added some variety to indy. Now ive only seen the sneak peeks, and the stuff in inquest, and so far im not to impressed with the set, but i could be wrong, and the set could kick major arse. Beleive me i would really like the set to turn out great, but besides the hellboy stuff, i jsut don't really see anything worth spending a good amount of money on.
We haven't seen all the figures yet, sure, but I thought the point of a "sneak peek" was to BUILD interest, not squelch it. Whoever is selecting the figures for preview could do a better job (assuming that indyclix ISN'T entirely middle range boring figures).
they ncertinley dont have a hard time making dials for these
"hmmm another blade carryn chick""just give her the other blade carryn chicks base""but wont the players notice?""so wahat? it makes our life a whole lot easier""oh ok"
As far as TMNT and Thundercats stuff goes – totally different licenses. Thundercats isn’t a comic book. It was an 80 TV show and toy line that has gotten a comic book spinoff. Putting it in IndyClix would be like making My Little PonyClix (actually, taking BCF to a bunch of My Little Ponies might be somewhat therapeutic for those of us who grew up in the 80s, but that’s besides the point). TMNT would be more appropriate due to their indy roots, but that’s a much more expensive license at this point.
Bluebeard: Yeah, the rest of the set may come out and be the best thing ever. But for now it’s the most underwhelming set released to date. How are we supposed to get excited when the figs have the exact same powers we’ve seen a hundred times before? After the home run that was Cosmic Justice (where 90% of the figs were all pretty cool and major threats) it’s kinda disappointing that what we’ve seen of IndyClix is the same stuff we’ve seen in Marvel a dozen times over.
You know, everyone complains about BCF on every indy clix piece. I for one and super happy with it. BCF is a power I love to use and my normal Marvel team involves Sauron, Deathbird, Elektra IC, Psylock and E Black Panther. I see all these sweet looking figs with BCF and a mix of other abilities and I say to myself "Self, this set is sweet, you really need to get a case".
So everyone out there who complains about BCF, remember, there are those of us that use it alot, and love it!

I also think b/c/f is a great power, just in sets i want a little variety when it comes to my figures. I want more than chicks with big boobs and a sword, i mean give us a fig with a power that isn't used very much like plasticity, or enhancement, we only have a hand full characters with this power, and i would personally like to see more of. Like i said at least three or four time allready, im just disappointed with the lack of variety in the set, it still could turn out to be a great set, its just not looknig to good so far.

I don't know where you play, but where I'm from enhancement is one of the most often used power's.
PantherPriest
08/20/2003, 23:37
yes but there are approximately 4 figs with enhancement not counting their dups. Me I like Indy, but I usually like the stuff no one does. Indyclix, 8th edition M:tG, Black Panther. Well Panther is definitely good, just unread. I like the cheap figs and blade is one of my favorites and an often used staple. What I like about this chic is that she has a blade and range like blade should've. Hopefully she gets something decent like 6 or maybe 8. After claiming Angelus my sweetie I decided to look into Darkness and it's pretty good. And since this Magdalena is yet another Darkness villian (I swear everybody is after this guy.) I'll pick her up.

Heh. Just an odd way to word that since Magdalena is the complete opposite of a villain. She's always on the "good" side, raised by the church for the strict purpose of killing vampires and other evil threats against the church. Darkness falls in this category, so she was after him for a little while.

"TMNT would be more appropriate due to their indy roots, but that’s a much more expensive license at this point."
True, but if they put in a decent number of decent sculpts with decent stats, I would buy so many more boosters to get them. They are cooler characters that everybody is familiar with, so they would make more money back... and I highly doubt that the licensing would cost anymore than the Superman or X-Men, which are far more recognizable.
But just imagine, the ninja turtles could all have stealth (to represent their shells) and 50% of them could have blades (Katana and Sai) and Splinter could use a sword and Shredder would definitely have blades which would be awesome...................... They would fit perfectly into Indy Heroclix! ;)

You're havin' a little trouble with the counting thing again, aren't you? Two people would be Wonder Woman and Green Arrow. You named three and a generic.
Oh, and you hadn't heard of Martian Manhunter or Bizarro or Lex friggin' Luthor? Because that would be six that you've heard of (and, if you hadn't at least heard of them, you can't legitimately call yourself a comics fan).
Six figures and one generic that you'd heard of from Cosmic Justice will likely outnumber the 'named' figures that any one person has heard of that'll be included in IndyClix.

The licensing rights for TNMT might not be anymore than superman or x-men (course wizkids got those as part of the package deal) but if they're even close its probably too expensive for indyclix. I'd be surprised if Wizkids spent anymore total on licensing for indyclix as they did for marvel or dc. In fact I'd be surprised if they spent that much. Plus that money is divided between 8 companies. I'm not sure that would have been enough to pull it off. I think most of the companies involved in indyclix benefit from more than just the money, they get a little more exposure for their characters which they hope will help them not only with comic sales but also upcoming movies, tv show, video games, whatever.
In any case, I'm happy with indyclix so far. Sure we've seen lots of BCF but we've also only seen 3 of the lines. Characters in the same books often have similar traits. They've still got 4 or 5 lines to show us. I'm sure we'll see more BCF but we're going to see some other stuff as well. There are going to be 40 different characters in this set how many do you think will have BCF when all is finally said and done? Sure at them moment it looks like 30 or so. I don't know 2000AD well but I'm guessing it won't be as popular there and it shouldn't turn up too much in Hellboy, I think crossgen will have a bit but also some variety. So I think 24 or less is a reasonable guess. Compare that to CJ, how many out of those 40 had incapacitate one atleast 1 version for atleast 1 click? 18. Its not completely analogous, BCF is the key power on alot of the indyclix while inc was a throwin on alot of CJ, but personally I'd much rather have a BCF heavy set than a inc heavy one and I like incapacitate.

BCF, Stealth and Leap/Cimb all seem to be pretty inexpensive powers. I think one or two of these pieces could have 11 or maybe 12 attacks. Look at IC V Panther, how much of a stat upgrade could het get for trading in those two clicks of outwit? He's 45. Some of these pieces probably won't spend much on damage numbers going instead with pure BCF so they get some points to play with there. I think the numbers on the figures we've seen so far could be pretty solid though maybe one-sided (good defense, lousy attack for some, and the reverse for others)

I said LIKE two people as in it might as well be two people. DC frustrates me since I want to get a fig I know and have attachments to but I don't because there aren't many. With Indy I know I'm going into it blind and the Darkness seems cooler than a lot of DC comics I've read lately. Indyclix seems like it's trying to break a few molds, and I think it will play better than DC. I hate how DC plays.
Indyclix seems to have the figs I ususally play, the Nick Fury's and the Blades, now I hope just as much as the rest of you that Blades/Claws/Fangs isn't as dominating as it is in these previews and that didn't actually sign a contract about dice rolling in all figs. (Which makes no sense.) But I will probably buy more indyboosters than CJ and HT combined.

Thats 14. And I'm only collecting all the versions of 4 or 5 of them plus Manhunter. Besides that Cosmic Justice can beat it.
14 out of 40 characters, PantherPriest? That's 35% of the characters in DC's Cosmic Justice that you have interest in and will be looking to get at least one figure of.
Now, have you heard of 35% of the characters in IndyClix? Probably not.
Have you read comics that included 35% of the characters in IndyClix? Probably not.
Are you going to have interest in and want to collect at least 35% of the characters in IndyClix? Probably not.
See the problem here? Sadly, probably not.

Ah ah ah, I actually probably will be interested in Indyclix. With Indy I know I'm going into this blind and besides since I've started to read the Darkness I'm recognizing more. And you misunderstand. I'm only interested in collecting 4 or 5 of them. If I get some of the others in boosters then I'll keep em but I'm only looking for like 5. With Indy I won't know anyone and will be getting figs for sculpt and powers alone.

This set will be great for sealed booster tourneys, but they really need to show a character in the 100 pt. category. Hopefully Hellboy will be that character. Icksnay on the BCF already.
Gulp... what if these ARE the heavy hitters in the set?

If that's the case then some of the spacs that reply to these preview threads might have to learn how to construct a team properly rather than sifting out the big cheese figures that you see in every constructed tournament thus far.
I find it hard to believe that there are so many small brained people that visit these forums. Originality is not any easy thing to achieve when there have already been 5 previous sets before hand. If you want something so dramatically different go and play 'Creepy Freaks'...maybe that will suit your age bracket as well.
So, so far we've seen lots of BCF. My knowledge of these independant comics is limited, but my understanding is that most of them aren't based on your superpower genre sort of universe and tend to lean towards the dark gloomy underworld type of scene. So how do you kill someone??? With a freakin' knife, sword, any pointy stick you can come across or if you're lucky you have a gun.

That's the best point one can say about indyclix. Yes this is another chic with a big sword and a gun. But that's what indyclix IS. Busty chics with big weapons. And who gives a #### about heavy hitters? We've got plenty of those I get tired of seeing the same "brick" reproduced everywhere. So now instead of several versions of shehulk we have several versions of blade.

Another point to recognise is that people into indy comics dont tend to spend as much time on the internet #####ing and complaining about things as MArvel and DC fanboys do. So its possible that there is a whole host of indycomic fan clix players out there just dieing for these characters to come out.
Is anyone else starting to get the sense that this is actually the long-awaited Marvel expansion "ElektraClix: We Can't Get Enough Of Her"?
Seriously, though ... I don't know anyone that's been previewed except Witchblade, and her only peripherally from the commercials for her TV show. The characters in American IndyClix that I do know, other than Hellboy, are also going to have Stealth, Blades/Claws/Fangs, and Toughness.
I'm wondering if I shouldn't just be happy with the Promo Dredd I ordered from a UK convention, call it a night, and hope that Critical Mass is better.
I do have to hand it to WizKids, though. If there's ever been a good time to cripple the power of taxis, it's right before you release an expansion where any given sealed booster is probably going to give you four B/C/F swordsluts.
I'm only responding because I found this post to be so pleasant.

Why? You are here, why wouldn't there be others?

Yes, but I don't think that originality within the set is too much to ask. Really. The complaint isn't so much that we've already got a bazillion cheap Stealthed BCFers that we don't use, but that more cheap Stealthed BCFers is all that is apparently in this set.
Perhaps if they taught you how to read down there in the sweaty little armpit of the world, you could have gathered at least that much information from the complaints you're railing against.

One might even argue that you said too much. Oh, and right back at you, man.
Again, only responding due to the pleasant nature of the original post ...

Or it's possible, and some might say far more likely, that Indy comic fans make up such a small and insignificant minority of the general comic reading population that among all of us, you and Rake are the proportionate population representation and thus the only people who are really all that excited about seeing these come out ... ?
Then again, as you can't even spell 'dying' correctly, using that many four syllable words in a row probably just made this response 'over your head', right?
Would someone like to compare the sales figures of the Batman comics or the X-Men comics or the Spider-Man even the new Teen Titans comics to the sales figures of any recent independent comics title that has figures included in this set for me ... ?
just to throw in my two cents again, but I think alot of you that complain about this set are missing the point, the set isn't about a set its about the fan I mean I read, Kabuki, Sojourn and Danger Girl, so those are the only figs that I want at this point, if anyone looks cool or is cool after that than alrighty I'll grab them up too. Everyone should just keep in mind that the set was made to appease fans of indy comics

I think its highly unlikely that wizkids made this set expecting to sell it to indy fans only. I think they expected to sell it to the serious heroclix players as well and needed to do so on the playing merit of the set.
I think when all is said and done this could be a very fun set to play. Sure alot of the figures look very similar so far but we've still got whole lines we haven't seen anything from. And as far as the cost and powers being similar on multiple figures, remember just how much a figure's usefulness can change because of the stats. Look at E SheHulk and E Thing, same cost, same powers, but I wouldn't call them interchangeable. We'll get a stealth BCFer with range, and we'll get a few without. We'll probably get one who's attack stands out from the rest and we might get one with an above average defensive number (which is one area that I don't think has really been tapped with stealthed BCFers. They cap out at around 16 in my memory).
I also think there's a very good chance we won't see a traditional medic in this set which makes all that potential damage even bigger.
Ignoring the BCF issue and the rule changes, if you heard indyclix was going to have fewer generics and no medics and the only flyers were around 100 points and overall the set was very close combat heavy, wouldn't you admit it makes for an interesting change from marvel or dc? Whether you think its an enjoyable change or not, its definitely different atleast in terms of how it will be played in single-universe games. Once you mix them in with the other two sure most of the figures will probably be either inferior or in some cases superior versions of existing ones, but on its own I think there is alot of potential for indyclix. I can't say all those things I'm guessing are true, but I think there's a decent chance simply because I can't see them wasteing to much space with generic pieces.

Now that is hardly fair...given that plenty of people only read a single comic universe and were raised on some of the characters in question, comparing the numbers is obviously going to be onesided. Nearly everyone's gonna have a personal fave among your choices, so those numbers are going to be inflated. Plus, you've cherry picked...when has Batman, Spiderman, and the X-men, not sold well?? Hell, Superman trails those guys in sales by a lot...is he suddenly ####? I ask specifically considering your avatar. Teen Titans is also a little misleading since it just relaunched to such fanfare, with a cartoon as well.
That, and sales numbers don't equal quality...cause old school Image and the late years X-men rolled in dough, but I'd find it hard to defend them as benchmarks all comics should be judged by. And plenty of comics without large fanbases are borderline amazing. Red Star, Powers, Fables (to a lesser extent), Hawkman, Alias, Y the Last Man, etc...maybe they don't change comics, but they're plenty better than a lot of the stuff above them...

funny, all the sneak peeks plus most of the clix i saw @ wizardworld i recognized. not a 2000ad fan so most of those i didn't know, but the rest i knew. i guess as a comic book reader i look @ the industry as a whole and not just two companies. im really lookin' forward to the 1/2 case im gettin'. also it will be great to play against ppl who aren't experienced w/ indy clix 'cause they wont know whats on the dials.
oh yeah, to comic readers out there! read Invincible and Wildcats! their trades just came out and they're kick @$$ reads!

Firstly to JacinB: I take great offense at your comments, saying that i make up such a small and insignificant minority of general comic reading population that basically my wants should not be catered to... by the way if you haven't figured it out yet I read Indy comics and have read them since i started reading comics... I know all of the charcters even if i don't know some of them that well (crossgen) but i am extremely interested in this set and I am happy that wizkids is willing to step away from a gauranteed sell (marvel and dc) and take a risk with this set, I for one will buy a lot of boosters
Secondly I heard someone complain that the lack of originality with the characters spoke poorly of Indy comics, i would like to make it clear that this is not truely indy comics, if it were we would have scud and JTHM and Ranx, and such, but there are so few people who know these characters, or licensing was hard enough to get that they stuck with the bigger name comics instead of the true independents, basically don't let this set push you away from indy comics
Guess that is all i have to say, that and stop friggin complaining about BCF, we know you are annoyed by it, you don't have to fill half of the comments on a figure about it

So you assume that everyone that buys Indyclix already owns the 5 other sets. Great defense. You're obviously a law grad of some kind.

What a great pick up. We all know that if you have 3 spelling mistakes on HCRealms they delete your account. CensusTaker better be careful not to make another slip up like that.
Back to the purpose of the thread, I like the sneak previews and the sculpt looks great. The fact that I don't read and never have read any comics from DC, Marvel or any of the Indy Clix franchises the previews give me a chance to get an idea of the characters from the comics before they're released and once they are I go to 'Who Clix' to find out a little more.
Nuff Said.
