ARRR!!! Fertyfivehundred!
Arrrr! I return with a booty-loaded Gallion for ye mateys! Vegas was fun and the Treasure Island was much nicer than I expected. On the whole the trip was a grand success and Brandi and I didn't even fight...much.

TODAY'S PIRATE FACT:
Pierre Le Grand ("Peter the Great"--his real name is unknown) was a Frenchman who, around 1620, took 28 men out into the Carribbean in a small boat, determined to make a go at piracy regardless of his lack of a real ship.
They'd been at sea awhile, with food running short and the boat in bad shape, when they finally spotted a large Spanish galleon. Le Grand decided to board her. His men swore an oath to fight to the death, but Le Grand drilled a hole in the bottom of the boat regardless. They would have to win or die.
They came up to the ship in the dark and climbed aboard, each man armed with a cutlass and a pistol. They caught the captain and some others in a cabin, playing cards. Some of the crew tried to defend the gun room, but were quickly killed. The ship was quickly in Spanish hands.
Le Grand kept enough Spaniards aboard to work the ship, put the rest ashore and sailed for France. Peter Le Grand's career as a pirate was short, but very successful.
RECOMMENDED PIRATE VIEWING:
"Treasure Island" (1999) with Charleston Heston. The single best adaptation of the classic book. Heston is really good as Long John Silver; production values are high; the battle scenes are really cool; and there's a great soundtrack. It's not on DVD yet, sadly, but if you can dig up a VHS copy, it's definitely worth watching.

i've been well, kiddo. albeit psycho crazy busy with concerts and work and such. I left a link a few posts ago where you can download mp3's of my solo parts in some of the recitals and concerts i did recently.
sadly enough, my getting back into the swing of things has caused my attention to clix to wane a bit. I still play a little, but i'm just gonna hold out for Legacy before I buy any more boosters. ONLY because GG convinced me not to give up clix altogether.
I still laugh occasionally at that "signed" picture you sent with that #### we traded a while back. i just kinda threw it all with my clix and when i played over thanksgiving weekend, i saw it and lost it.
It's good to see all y'all are still goin strong on this thread. save Basil, I think he gets more incoherent the older he gets.

Well I got to fight with Ando in City of Heroes today. Man, he's up to level 45. I have to stop working to catch up to him LOL.
On a side note. I have finished the Cover, Page 1 and page 2 of GDF (Global Defense Force) Comic. The First page was a test page and I learned a lot from it. It took me 2 hours to do the Cover. It takes about 30 minutes to hour to do a page now. So its not bad. So here goes PIRATES.

I still have a few people on my team (GDF) that plays and posts here. As of late GDF has had a spike in members. I am deleting all the members that havent been on for 100 days or more. Right now we have 11 different people on the GDF. I know Weezer still plays. He wont talk to me because I wont agree with him that DC is better. Some people can not accept different opinions.
Once Beta for City of Villians start we will have to join up and have some fun there also Ando.
As for the GDF comic. I have to redo some of the wordings on the second page. I did that a while back.

The Bio's is the one I was talking about. Just to let you guys know. Hopefully by January I will have a website (That I will use money on) that will host these images. I will actually be able to post some nice stuff on it and have more bandwidth.

Mohammed Hadj Candil Reis was a French renegade who sailed with the Barbary pirates that terrorized the Mediterranean during the 17th Century. Mohammed was twice captured by the French, but both times was freed in a prisoner exchange. In 1688, he was exchanged for a French ship captain who had been languishing in a Barbary prison for two years. In 1695, Mohammed was again captured, but this time was traded for a young French girl with influencial parents. History has lost track of Mohammed's eventual fate, but it seems unlikely he died in prison.

Here's some pretty cool news:
I may have a chance to do the most piratical thing I've ever done. I might be going to the Southern Sudan for three weeks this May on a short-term missions trip. I'd be either teaching Bible classes to a class of guys training to be in the Chaplain Corps of the rebel army that controls the south; or perhaps helping with a children's ministry. Or possibly helping in the medical clinic at the camp we'd be staying at.
Well, I suppose running a Bible study or helping children isn't all that piratical, but still, I'd be staying with the rebel army so it's kinda sorta a piratey thing to do.

I agree he's a much better Cap. As long as you and your opponent both agree to using the Ultimates Cap, I think that works just fine.
Which just made me realize. Hawkeye should have been on the list of Avengers Poker Buddies. Feel free to add him if you have a chance to play through it. (I long ago put a regular Hawkeye figure on an Ultimates base. It's yet another case of where the Ultimates version is a better representation of the regular character.)

Peter Le Pain was the captain of a French Merchantman who, in 1682, seized the ship and cargo and sailed to Jamaica. There he played for time by claiming to be seeking asylum as a Protestent, all the while looking for a buyer for his cargo. When the truth came out, Le Pain was arrested and shipped to Saint Domingue for punishment. Meanwhile, the ship he had stolen was hired by Jamaican merchants and sent to the Hondoras. Along the way, it was captured by the pirate Jean Hamlin, who used it as his flagship to devestate English shipping.
TODAY'S RECOMMENDED PIRATE VIEWING:
"The Sea Hawk," starring Errol Flynn. Based on a Rafael Sabatini novel but wrapping the title around an entirely different plot, this wonderful swashbuckler is, along with "Captain Blood," one of Flynn's finest films. There is, of course, a superb sword fight at the climax. But the best sequence might be when Flynn and his men are escaping from a Spanish slave galley.

I've been fine, Cappy. Christmas season is always hell on musicians of every kind, and its even worse if you arent fond of this particular holiday. And I gotta tell ya, if it gets any colder here, I'm gonna just give up and sleep until March.
I've got some auditions lined up for spring and my first opera role in February. So I'm gonna try and enjoy this little break. However, something tells me Borders won't allow much time for rest. at least as long as we are sporting our fresh new x-mas hours.... uch.
speaking of Borders, we had a huge employee discount weekend this one past. Since it applied to all items, I went ahead and bought a couple of boosters of Mutant Mayhem. Now bear with me, I know NOTHING about this set, but why do some of the figures have the gold printing. are Uniques a different color now? I pulled two or three of them, and was TOTALLY confused.
Dougie, it's really nice to see your grammar has improved... somewhat. It brings a little tear to my eye when I see things spelled correctly. However, sweetie, you don't have to capitalize the "s" in sexuality and spelling.
speaking of sexuality and even ninjas, I saw Blade Trinity tonight. The plot totally blew chunks, but I could have stood another 5 hours of Ryan Reynolds shirtless...

Incidently I did a Task Force in City of Heroes last night. It was the Manticore Task Force which would have taken an average group 4-5 hours to knock out. We did it in less than three. We needed 7 heroes to start the TF, and only 4 from my Super-group were available so I went to see if I could find a few random heroes.. and WHO should I see on the list of players available but the one and only MANCHINE! He didn't recognize me at first (a greivous error for which I will certainly punish him), but after a little instigation he joined and stuck with us the whole way. When the TF was finished I thanked him and killed him for being a ninja, but nonetheless it was a blast.

basically its heavy metal, if you want a point of reference listen to Black Sabbath, we are trying to emulate that greatness. its proving difficult to find a singer like Ozzy though.

Even though most of the stuff was several levels higher then me. I ran the guantlet and helped the team. Killing and protect everyone. Orginally they thought I would be dead weight. (I am a force fielder, with only one large bubble. Most FF can put bubbles around a lot of people. I instead made my character according to my specifics. I am a blaster with force field powers. So I only have one large Force Field. Which hurts me but it true to my character. I dont play a power level characters.) Showing how well a NINJA fights, I did not die once. Unlike a specific pirate. I did not run from any fight. Unlike a specific pirate. I would not leave my teammates to die. They would of died if it werent for my big force field. That is maxed out on defenses. Of course the pirate one kept asking me. "Have you killed anything yet?" As usual I killed several of the enemies. I had a blast fighting along side the pirate Ando. Even though he smelled bad.

Or have a regular singer, and just have him go 10 times past the legal limit before the show, and you should have yourself an Ozzy.

THE FIRST PIRATE FACT OF 2005:
In July 1715, the Spanish Treasure Fleet from Portobelo was destroyed by a hurricane off SE Florida. The governor of Havana sent a salvage crew, which had soon recovered a considerable amount of silver.
This is when English buccaneer Henry Jennings stepped in. Funded by Jamaican merchants, Jennings put together a force of three small ships and 300 men. They swooped down on the salvagers, drove off about 60 soldiers and helped themselves to 350,000 pesos worth of silver. While returning to Jamaica, they captured another Spanish ship and garnered another 60,000 pesos.
Jennings and his followers sold the booty at auction in Jamaica, then moved to New Providence Island in the Bahamas where they established a pirate haven.
The crew soon broke up into seperate gangs. When the English government offered a general amnesty in 1717, Jennings was one of those that surrendered and accepted his native land's official forgiveness. After that, Henry Jennings disappears from history.

You didn't DIE because you didn't AGRO anything. You didn't have to run because you weren't getting POUNDED.
Other than that, you did surprisingly well for a FORCE FIELD Defender that DOESN'T HAVE TWO of the BEST powers in your PRIMARY POWER POOL.
If you have a toon with a good build doesn't mean you're a 'power level' character, it means you play to help your teammates as much as possible. If you're not taking advantage of the best powers available, you're teammates are going to notice and very likely resent you for it, but I expected nothing less from a turn-coat ninjerk.

I Agro'ed several things specially when I was 1 of the 2 people left alive. Getting through my force fields is pretty tough.
By the way when I put up Force Bubble. Everything is Agroed to me. Unless someone is pounding on someone.
There is a lot of people who just play the game to max out there character. I play the game for the characters. Which makes it very very hard to play. I like to have a challange thats why I am a NINJA. If I wanted to go the easy route I would be a PIRATE. :p :p :p

The game is plenty challenging even when you play it smart. You're going to have an impossible time with some of the more difficult missions if you try to solo with that gimp build, but you'll figure it out eventually... then again maybe you won't...

Thats why I was taking on 2 or 3 villians by myself. As usually. I can handle 2 reds perfectly fine by myself. Because my character can do this, I am not just a bubble guy. I can even handle a single purple by myself.

The pirate still cant understand. My character is made for soloing thats the whole point, that you dont understand. The only time I ever have a problem with fights is with the Arch Villians. Most Everyone else usually has problems with Soloing Arch Villians.

Um... actually I WAS doing damage to 20+ guys at once. I do this on a regular basis, and you're either blind and didn't notice Magna herding and stacking multiple mobs of 10+ baddies or you have an extremely short-term memory.

Yeah I remember, Thats when you died. LOL There was also a handeful (6 to 8) that was outside of your radius effect. Also, I know the Deflec and Ins Fields would help out teammates but the character doesnt have that power. If I wanted to stay true to the character I wont get those. IF I ever cant solo, then I probable will.
I know we will paly again, pirate. Cant wait till the Arena is open so I can kick your butt. :laugh: :laugh: :p :p Once I exampt you to make us an even level.

What a maroon. I had herded 50+ when I died. If I'd have had some support from our *force field defender* it might have been a different story. That was one fight out of the hundreds of others where I herded groups of 20+ and killed them all.

He still died and I had to deal with what he had left for everyone (Half of them). I am 2 levels lower then him at the time. I still didnt die. Unlike a Pirate/
