5) Wizkids Crimson Skies revolves around air pirates.
6) Many nations used Pirates as Privateers in time of war.

I'm getting tired; but, I will end on this note...pirates are not laughable.......I believe there was no worse feeling than to see the Jolly Roger breaching the horizon back in the time of wooden ships (whether you were a mere merchant vessel or ship of the line):p
