See, Rasputin isn’t a pushover by anyone’s estimation, but at the same time he’s more of a behind-the-scenes mastermind than he is a front-line fighter, so how do I balance all of that? Well, I give him a good mix of abilities that can be used offensively or defensively. He has a couple of straight-forward attack and defense powers like Stealth, Toughness, and the biggie, Psychic Blast, but he backs that up with Mind Control, Perplex, and Willpower to add some excellent options. The various combinations of abilities throughout the dial guarantee that he’ll always have some sort of defense along with a couple of other powers that make him a powerhouse that no one can ignore. He’s especially threatening at the beginning of his dial with the combination of Stealth, Perplex to increase his attack or damage values, Psychic Blast to ignore his target’s defensive powers, and Willpower, so he can act without fear of pushing. Ouch. Add that fact that he has the wild card team ability and that his dial is six, seven, or eight clicks deep and he’s well worth the points.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This is a character I want.

This guy is now the "MUST HAVE" clix and now he will replace nightcrawler...........HAHA!!!

Deffinitely one of the coolest figures in the game. The rng 10 makes him even more of a threat since it looks like so few in the set have a range attack, of course most have stealth too......
Still rockin good piece to have some fun with!;)

Brigadier M

And he looks cool too.

Our first BPRD character, and he's a monster! Well, now I'm starting to Jones for this set. I was excited about the Hellboy stuff anyway, but Rasputin may end up at the top of the list.

Now, I'm thinking of actually picking up some Indyclix!

Thus far the Hellboy figs look to make this set. The Lobster Johnson figures look like they're going to be great as well as the crazy Hecate Unique. Nice stats all around!

WAIT A MINUTE HE HAS A SWORD AND NO BCF WTF?!!!!11one1!

...okay, I'm just kidding. This guy looks UGLY, and I think I like it!

I see definite modding potential here.

The mad monk looks perfect to me. I'm wondering, are there any A.E.'s in this set? He could have maybe been HB's...

09/10/2003, 16:58
You know...before Indy, I would complain about a character who had a sword and did not have B/C/F's. Now, I say thank God he doesn't!!! To top it off...his points are more than the usual 40-50 pts. Indy's been showing us so far. Great character.

Definitely one of the ones in this set that I'll want, but (barring their bungling the character) I knew that based on the list of names, as the Hellboy assortment are my main reason for buying into this set.

I was especially pleased to see this as an r,e,v.

don't get me wrong Rasputin is a big credit to indyclix,but..

The stats they described look to be very handy. This one will be on most everyone's wish list.
Yet I continue to be blown away by the sculpts. Out of all the sets, Indy looks to be the most aesthetically pleasing to eye.

oh great yet anOTHer IndyClix w/ B/C/F! i know he doesn't have it but, none of the haters had said it. sorry couldn't help myself. i think he looks sweet though. October can't get here fast enough!

Sculpt is kind of lame, but otherwise a very good fig, in terms of playability.

Oooh, looks like they used Anton LaVey as a model.

Hope I pull him in the Marquee :)

I have to admit, while I'm not too keen on IndyClix, this figure will be the must have of the set, and looks like he'll be one of the best non-Unique's the game has seen so far. :)

Nightcrawler is good but a lot of time's I feel many people tend to over rate him.

It's really mostly in the sauce. A good wine can make all the difference, too.

Who else thinks this would be a bad idea? I mean, let's suppose some lucky ten-year old pulls this guy with the inverted pentagram on his shirt and Angelus with her nekkid butt out of the same box. Mom'll be picketing the store for fomenting Satan-worship so fast, her poster paint won't even be dry.

I'm probably being alarmist, but it comes from living in the South and playing D&D at the same time I was attending a Southern Baptist church 25 years ago.

We can't edit harmless fun for the sake of pacifying some nutjobs. Yes, they can cause trouble, but we can't let them rule our lives.

Unless it's in a particularly wacky, backwards part of the country (which may, understandably, describe quite a few places) it probably wouldn't amount to much more than a local store being pressured to sell the game only to adults. By and large, the publicity would probably help sell the game, especially seeing how news stories of this sort end up on Fark and similarly popular websites that live on outrageous news stories.

Miraclo

Ah! Okay, missed your postings sub-heading.

Still, I have to stand with my earlier comments. People who sincerely believe that these elements represent "real", malignant, supernatural forces scare me far more than any pentagrams could.

Of course, I came up through Catholic school, and once someone's been terrorized by sisters (colloquially referred to as "nuns", even among Catholics, though that's a misnomer since nuns are cloistered) from an early age there isn't a great deal that can top that.

Miraclo

It wasn't even for much of a fix (I simply wanted to fix "posting's" to express the possessive in my previous post; it's a minor detail, but the sort of error that bothers me being left up for all to see) but, as is so often the case, despite my trying to do it almost immediately -- I get a goofy box telling me that for some not-quite-known reason I can't edit my own post. It's bad enough when one waits the extra few seconds and is told it's too late to edit, but to be denied even that window is aggravating.

Okay... I now return you to discussions on and around Rasputin as a clix.

The Charlatan
09/10/2003, 19:30
The sculpt is nothing special, but his stats are excellent. Too bad he's apparently not Hellboy's AE, but then with all the Psychic Blast, maybe HB wouldn't have stood much of a chance anyway. Anyone else think that he'll probably be replaceing White Queen and Mordru in many mixed games? I mean, he can Perplex up his damage then shoot someone with Psychic Blast at 10 range from Stealth!

Greyshadow

My r-Rasputin, is only 68 points... Hmmm...

Masada
09/10/2003, 20:26
If I happen to draw this dude, that figure is definitely going in the trash. I'll replace him with someone who looks like the Rasputin from Russian history, the one who caused so much intrigue and eventually led to the bolshevik revolution. They tried to kill that dude so many times..

anyway, yes, the figure is hideous and is getting trashed.

Man, where were you guys when I posted something about this figure a week ago. I was looking through the Indy clix stats and came cross this monster. The combination of powers on his dials just makes him insane.
The rookie I think is a super value price. I can see him being a huge part of a lot of different teams. With the new rules willpower has become a MUCH more important power.

Awesome character and an awesome clix piece. I think the sculpt is awesome. Definately a must have, must play figure. I recently started reading Hellboy and Rasputin is by far my favorite baddie thus far. Check out "Seeds of Destruction", so far it's my favorite Hellboy TPB.

Why is this guy a BPRD member? He is one of the BPRDs enemies. He should get the Mystics team ability or none at all...

whats bprd stand for anyway.

And he better have bcf.

MarkFinn
09/11/2003, 13:04
He's a member of the BPRD group, like all of the figures are members of their comic book group. It's probably not something to take seriously, because, you know, it's IndyClix, and it's comics, and you know, because well...just because.

BPRD stands for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

I was thinking something similar. Shouldn't this guy have
a 12 click dial with nothing but Toughness, Regenerate,
Outwit, and Perplex?

And they only really tried to kill him twice, it just took a lot
of work. First attempt was lots of poisoned pastries, then a
bullet when the poison didn't do the trick. When the
supposedly done deed was discovered not to be, they
clubbed and shot him repeatedly, tied him up and threw
him into a frozen Russian river. Later examination showed
he survived the bullets, drowning is what did him in (he
actually managed to untie himself first).

That kind of resiliance is something Superman would envy.
He even had a much more devastating post-demise
payback. Superman cacks it, all he got was a funeral. Rasputin's demise was followed by starvation, revolution,
and the execution of the royal family. Now *that's* a clix
figure nobody will try to knock out - or succeed if they do.

Well, the idea is to recreate Mignola's Rasputin, as outlined in the Hellboy comics, and not an apocryphal figure from Russian history.

Mignola is very well-read in folklore, but he also reserves the right to be entertaining when he does his comics. The comics are worth a look, if you don't mind a few points being fudged in the interest of telling a good story.
