The Cartoon Clan!

Ok, with the sucess of the last clan, I decided to put my new clan idea into action, The Cartoon Clan. This is a clan that can guarantee to be fun, allowing everybody to talk about there favorite TV Cartoons, from The Simpsons to Yogi Bear, its all welcome here. But before I explain the joining process, I need to lay down some rules:

1.) Have fun, thats what its all about.

2.) NO Bashing, Flaming, or attacking, from the pirate and ninja clan's war, I can tell you its a nuisance having to put up with someone's qwuips about why they don't like someone.

3.) You need a name -- in order to be apart of this clan you have to have a cartoon clan name, much like the X-men Clan, just request a name, it can be Homer Simpson or even a powerpuff girl, it doesn't matter.

My favorite Cartoon being Hong-Kong-Phooey, I will take that name as the leader.

The first person to reply can request to be VP.

All I ask, is that you have fun, thats the way I've led my life, and I think everyone else should too.

Yes Futurama was and is agreat show but i miss Family Guy the most. I mean that show has satire and very old plus new humor and it was failing all else HILARIOUS.

Yes, R.I.P. family guy, one of the greatest adult cartoon comedies ever-not-produced by Matt Groening, but a good thing, other stations like UPN and NBC are considering picking up Family Guy (You can't deny the emmy nods in its first season) sometime soon If they do, hopefully other adult-cartoons will be picked up like reruns or news of Space Ghost and Futurama *Drops to knees, starts prayin*

What does everyone think about the new Masters of the Universe cartoon? I prefer the original, more violent one. Something disturbs me when the former voice of a Ninja Turtle is now the voice of the most powerful man in the universe.

Being the God of All Thing Comics on TV (and owner of 66 [so far] 8 hour tapes filled with comicy goodness) here's the lowdown on Spider-Man Unlimited.

In Spider-Man Unlimited, a break in space is opened as a portal to "Counter-Earth", where everything is nutty wacko. Well, John Jameson, J. Jonah's son, heads off into the new universe to check it out, but the now completely sentient Venom and Carnage symbiotes tag along on the rocket so they can take over the "new world". Spidey can't let that happen, of course. So he asks Reed Richards (whom we never see) to make a new suit out of nano-technology to keep him safe in space and into the new universe.

The new powers included a stealth mode and sound fibers in the hands. The suit itself was made out of "bugs" and could appear and disappear by the touch of Peter's watch.

He had to fight the rulers of (basically) the world: The High Evolutionary, aided by John Jameson, whom is now the leader of a rebel gang, and a new Green Goblin, who protects the innocent, among others.

To make it easier, just watch Batman Beyond. It's the lightning that DC and Warner Bros. caught in a bottle that Marvel Films failed at doing. :)

Thanks for the Spiderman Unlimited info, CyberVenom. That's been bothering me for a while now. Sounds... convoluted. And the good Green Goblin, that reminds me of when Phil Urich (Ben's nephew) was a good Green Goblin for a while in the Spidey comics.

I still think that the 90s X-Men cartoon on FOX is the best comic inspired cartoon ever. That show had it all!!!

When it comes to Comic Book Cartoons, I don't think you get better that the 1930's Max Fliescher Superman 'toons. They are and forever will be the best. Batman: TAS is a close second, followed by X-Men and Justice League.

Family Guy is awesome! So is Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab2021!

Can I be the local cartoon know-it-all?

Spidey Unlimited was really really bad. The Green Goblin good version was by far worse than the good Green Goblin from the comics. It was a hispanic guy who was obsessed with his ex-wife and their child. The symbiotes were weird looking and ruined, character-wise, and the only good thing to come from it was an episode that had X-51: The Machine Man and a character made completely of bandages.

Man, that show is awesome! While the original theme song is awesome, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE should get a chance to listen to punk/alternative rock group Sublime's rendition. It is sooooooo good. :)

The Max Fleischer Superman is quite possibly the best interpretation of Comic books not on printed format. He captured the character better than the movies, other cartoons, or TV series could imagine to do. The sculpture rocks beyond belief, and rumor has it that this is what they (Warner Bros.) is going to base the new live action movie on.

Cartoons are awesome, just ask Bender.

Did everyone hear about the Aqua Teen Hunger Force dvd set coming out? It has all the episodes from the first two seasons!! Also, their is a SeaLab 2021 dvd set coming out soon as well. I believe these come out in November, and I'm gonna get both of them!!

A new Garfield movie!? Sweet!!!! Though I am hesitant to see it without the voice talents of the late, great Lorenzo Music. Still, nothing beats A Garfield Halloween.

I have watched Adult Swim from it's very beginnings. Before the Black and White cards, before the poo-stinked "Emergency" cards, and into the days of old people jumping into a pool with a voice over!

I've got my favorites and my not-so favorites.

Right now, here's my top 5 and bottom 5, in no particular order:

Top:
1. Family Guy
2. Futurama
3. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
4. Birdman: Attorney At Law
5. The Brak Show

Honerable Mention: The Big O. I've only seen 3 episodes, and they are pretty good. A little too Batman though.

1. Baby Blues
2. Mission Hill
3. The Oblongs
4. Lupin III
5. Just about all the rest of the anime on Adult Swim. Sorry, anime folks, but CN could find some that are waaay better.

There's probably a few I left out, though. Where's the Cartoon version of Survivor? I think we should start it right now.

15 Characters. 1 Character will be thrown off "Gilligan's Planet" each day. Each member of the Cartoon Clan must choose 1 Cartoon Character. Each day, I will ask an opinion based question that you must answer as the character chosen. Then, after everyone's given their answer, we will vote one of the cartoon characters off (by PMing me with your vote).

(A day won't neccisarily mean a real time day. Just until everyone's answered the question.)

Does everyone like that idea? You can even have a line in your signature saying what place you came in the end!

Pick your character by PMing me with your choice (so that noone can be voted off based purely on who has what character) and I'll post the participants. I haven't seen anyone from the DB series on here yet. If no one minds, I wouldn't mind being Piccolo. My reason for it is that he is a loner and at times I am like that. I also prefer Nameks over Saiyans. Nothing wrong with Saiyans but I like the idea of not eating. I wouldn't want to try and feed Goku or Gohan for a month. The grocery bill would be at least $1000 a piece the way those two eat. I even played a Namek on a DB site for a little while. I was the son of Kami after the split. As for the Cartoon Survivor it sounds interesting even though I prefered more of the "dating" shows like For Love or Money and the sequel. Most of the reality shows turns me off because there is so many of them.

Apparently, the nifty sweet G.I. Joe is being turned into a live action movie!! I don't know if this makes me happy or sad. I'd like someone to actually get HIT by the random gunshots if they make a film, so it's a little more realistic. Plus, there's a lot of characters to try to jam into two hours of movie. No one has been cast yet, and the script is still being written, so we'll all have to wait and see how it turns out. (Snake Eyes had BETTER be in it!)

Not only is G.I. Joe in the works, but so is a live-action Transformers movie! From what I understand, the Set building crew has stated that this will be the best LOOKING movie ever.

Anyone catch the new Ren & Stimpy cartoon on Spike TV? It's okay, but I prefer the originals myself. For some reason, the subtle "relationship" of the cat and dog is now a full on "relationship." I was slightly disturbed by this fairly big change in the show. I have no problem with the relationship itself, but they made it more annoying than comical. Stimpy wails and cries for ten minutes (literally) in one episode due to something Ren said. That isn't comedy, that's a headache. Comments?

Wow! Alot of stuff to report or comment on!

First, Survivor: Gilligan's Planet. We now have 12 characters signed up! C'mon Cartoon Clan! I need 3 more members to send a character my way!

I'm a huge Ren and Stimpy fan, and I prefer the older, Nickelodeon episodes. It had a feel of "This is waaaay to adult to be on Nick, but somehow feels right".

The new isn't completely horrid. I think it's just that the Adult Part is just too....well, adult. The jokes are more to gross us out than to be funny, but I'll still watch it.

I really liked the episode where Ren went to Dr. Mr. Horse to get his head checked out. That was the best one so far.

Other cartoons mentioned (and my thoughts):
Simpsons: Classic that will live forever!
Voltron: The original is excellent. The newer versions are not.
Thundercats: Enjoyable when I was younger, horrid now (although the theme song and catchphrases are still good)
Cowboy Bebop: Great show that isn't that great when cut up into 30 minute segments.
X-Men: Evolution: Being a comic book loyalist, I tried to hate this 'toon when it first started, but am now enjoying it more than the 90's X-Men 'toon.
Undergrads and 3-South: I despise both. The only thing Undergrads had going for it was the awesome animation. 3-South has no good points.
Clerks: Classic! Too bad ABC was too Millionaire crazy to give this show it's proper respect.
Dungeons and Dragons: Very overrated (at least to me), but I can see why people like it.
SpikeTV: I have to watch it, if only for my dosage of the WWE (which, by the way, has it's own cartoon coming out, and this time, it's NOT Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling!). They've got plenty of ok programming, but needs to step it up. As for their animation block, "The Strip", here's my feelings on the other two 'toons besides Ren and Stimpy:
Striperella: Wanted to hate it, but it spoofs the comic book and spy genre perfectly. Now only if they would get away from all the parts in the strip club.....
Gary The Rat: The most crud put onto one screen that is humanly possible. Kelsey Grammer should be ashamed of himself for diluded himself in this trash.


By the way, Ren and Stimpy fans: SpikeTV DOES air the original series as well. Sometimes even during the Adult Party timeslot!

Striperella is a good spoofing show, I like Stan Lee in it, the new Ren and Stempy sucks ###, Clerks has to be Cartoon royalty, Kelsey Grammer must've been nuts when he signed onto GTR, X-men Evo was #### at first, but I hung on, now its a weekly privelage to watch, Cowboy Bebop is a little too serious for my taste, Trigun is an excellent show when it focuses on Vash, Space Ghost CtC is odd-comedy-gold, Duckman's animation sucks and makes me dizzy, Voltron was never a good show to me, the Simpson's is quite easily the greatest cartoon of all time, Harvey Birdman is great for being packed into 15 min segments, So is Sealab 2021 (you see the priaprism episode? Hi-larious!) and I never got to experience Thunder-cats.

Clerks-fricken funny as h*ll. I loved the court episode. "Dante is just you. He loves..." I'm cutting this quote off here (for obvious reasons). Also, ABC put the series on DVD, just another great addition to my cartoon collection.

First I'd just like to tell you why I think there's a papa smurf at all....

now have you ever wondered why theres only one papa, one woman, and 100 smurfs of the same age? Well...it's because of the "papa war"
When Papa Smurf dies, all other smurfs(Except Smurfette) go into a huge free for all battle. Last one standing is the next Papa. Then the new Papa breeds with Smurfette, kills all the female babies exceptr one(The new Smurfette), and restarts Smurf village. Then he assigns them all jobs that they shall be forced to hold for the rest of their lives.

Just to give everyone a heads up:

Starting next Saturday on Cartoon Network, 10PM, new episodes of Justice League start!! And they will be airing in hour-long episodes too!! Could be good or bad.

Good: They want the fans to get as much JL as they want, boosting ratings, thus, more episodes.

Bad: They want to air them as quickly as possible so they can cancel the series (which I doubt).

Either way, there is ONE bad thing about it. At 1AM on Sunday, the Justice League episodes will re-air.

What's wrong with that? Well, currently at 1AM on Sundays is when Cartoon Network airs Batman: The Animated Series (in all of it's forms) and Superman: The Animated Series.

As for Survivor: Gilligan's Planet, we still need 4 members of the Cartoon Clan to PM me the character they will use! :)

If I don't get anymore by tomorrow at noon, I will begin the game anyway with the 11 characters that we already have. Enjoy!

There's been a lot of talk about the X-Men cartoons on this thread, but not really any about the various Spider-Man cartoons. I love the X-Men and all, but let's give Spidey his due!!

Here's the low-down on the Spidey shows I've seen episodes of, and my opinion of them.

Spider-Man (late '60s-early 70s)- The first Spider-Man cartoon. Spidey's webs were only drawn on his chest and mask. I liked the two episodes of this cartoon that I saw quite a bit. The dialogue seemed to come directly from a Stan Lee penned comic, and the stories were fast faced, but not rushed. My only problem with it is the lack of detail on Spidey himself. How much more effort can it be to draw webs on gloves and boots?

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends- Too many amazing friends, not enough Spider-Man. I've seen about six episodes of this show, and Spidey always seemed like a secondary character to Iceman and Firestar (funnily enough). Though the show did have great guest apearences, like the X-Men's appearence in "A Firestar is Born."

Spider-Man- I liked this show, but the first few seasons were rather slow moving and had waaaaaayyyyyy too much Kingpin. For a character with such a great rogues gallery, it seems a waste to spend the first thirteen episodes on the "Sins of the Father" story. Kingpin and Alistair Smythe? I'd rather see Sandman and Doc Ock, thank you. When the show finally hit it's stride, it was cancelled. That seems to be the way these things go though. I'd give this one a perfect score if it had featured a wider variety of villains, and it wasn't so heavy on the drama. At times, I felt like I was watching "My So-Called Life." Yes, I love the fact that Peter has problems like normal people, but bog him down with too many and it becomes depressing, and at times, I think this might have pushed it.

Ah well, them's my rants. It's super late here, so if anything doesn't make sense, I'm going to go ahead and blame it on sleep deprivation.

The Spider-Toons were all pretty good.

Spider-Man (60's) was very awesome and kept somewhat true to the comics. That is, when it was doing a hokey story about Ghost Pirates. When it actually got down to the nitty gritty with Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and that ilk, it totally hit the mark!

Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends (80's) was not as bad as some say. Yes, it was also a bit hokey, but at least they had guest stars a-plenty, including The X-Men, Thor, and Hulk. The animation is up there with the best of the 80's and the sound effects were snappy as well. And if you add in the original character of Firestar, this was one Amazing 'toon.

Spider-Man (90's) was the best of the bunch so far. Not only did it introduce the characters of Venom, Carnage, and multiple others to the small screen, but it dealt with multiple part episodes that left you hanging on for more. But I also agree that the show was prematurely cancelled and was about to get into the good stuff. Rumor has it that the next season was to feature the "Maximum Carnage" story-arc (but of course without too much of the gore from the comics).

Spider-Man Unlimited (2000) was already covered in a previous post. :)

Spider-Man: The Series (2003) has to be the worst of the bunch. Not only have they been messing up classic characters like Kraven and Electro, but MTV is using the "hip" music and entertainment people to do voices that don't match up with the character. The only exception goes to Rob Zombie as Curt Conners/Lizard. Eve just doesn't have the right voice for the character she played and Kathy Griffen as a character that can mind-control people?!?! Give me a break. (This doesn't mention MTV's own Sujin [she's an MTV News reporter] doing the voice of Empire's News).

I forgot my review of the new MTV Spider-Man cartoon.

Spider-Man (2003)- I got used to the animation, but that's all I can get used to. I hate the new versions of classic characters, like Electro, and the fact that it takes place in movie continuity is going to run into trouble when the films want to introduce a character. I watched the show a lot when it first came out, hoping it would get better. I've given up.

When fox showed that and Batman back to back that where you could find me every Saturday morning. I think that Batman was the best comic turned cartoon ever. it was pretty dark with good artwork and stories.

I would not tell who's playing who until the game is completely over.

So here's what I'll do. No one will now until the very end of the game.

When it comes down to the final two players left, the players that have been voted off will choose who they want to win and the player with the most final votes wins.

But if everyone knew who had the 11 that were off, they could probably deduce who had Yogi and who had Butt-Head. So leaving it all a secret will still keep it fair and a mystery.

Okay, new cartoon opinion time....

What are everyone's views on King of the Hill? I personally like it quite a bit, but I feel that it's running out of good stories. The first few seasons were great, (especially the Weematanyeh episode) but a gradual decline in laugh out loud moments is occurring. I don't want the show to end, I want writers to revive the characters!! And give us more Boomhower!!!!

I know we just started a new topic with King of the Hill and all but I was just reading over old post and saw that no one picked Big O as one of there favorite shows on AS. Is this because everyone thinks how I do....this show blows chunks. I saw the first couple of episodes when it came out a few years ago on Toonami and I couldn't get into it. When they re showed them I gave another chance and still couldn't find any thing good about it. So basically I just want to get everyone opinion on it.

King of the Hill: The first season or two was great. The rest just haven't been up to Mike Judge's talent. It's a giant waste. He needs to go make Beavis and Butt-head: Do America Again.

Big O: I'd like it if it wasn't so Batman-ish. I DO think it's a bit hard to understand, but I enjoy it moreso that almost all of the rest of the anime on Cartoon Network.

I think king of the hill was great too, I loved it when it was hank vs. the ants (first ep i think) but it has been on the decline ever since, hope they can pick it back up...and yeah, I dont like big O, no offense meant to anybody

the first episode of KotH was the one with the social worker that thought bobby was being "abused". one of the greatest, i think. my favorite episode was the one when bobby got the ventriloquist dummy and hank ended up liking the dummy more than bobby. my favorite single scene, however, was in the episode with valentines day, where the girls put flowers on the boys they liked. (bobby got about seven) when joseph saw clarice (the girl he liked) coming over, bobby put one of his flowers on joseph. clarice did end up giving joseph a flower. afterward, as joseph was putting the flower back on bobby, that kid with the red hair saw them, and simply said "that took guts". that was just hilarious.

My favorite "old school" character is Daffy. The rabbit season/duck season was hilarious (first few times) and his lisp is super funny

As for Survivor: Gilligan's Planet, if we end it after this round, the four or five characters with the most votes should be booted, then the remaining characters could answer one last question, and those voted off can PM and vote for the WINNER.

Ah, I missed it!! And I watch Cartoon Network all the time too!! :grin: (Granted, it's usually around midnight, but I'm still watching!) I'll definately check it out, whether I see a preview or not. I give all things Star Wars a try, including the underpants!

I'll probably watch the Star Wars 'toon, basically because they will only be 5 mintues long during commerical breaks and because the genius behind them, the guy who makes Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab (I'm not even gonna try to spell his name!). Should be interesting, since I'm not a Star Wars fan. :)

On to Survivor: Gilligan's Planet!! 11 of the 12 Characters have responded, so today we have the answers, the vote off (which is already done), and the new question! Yay!

Here's the answers that were given for the last question:

1. Abe Simpson:
"Cartoon character?! What are you jabberin' on about?! I don't wanna be stuck anywhere with some animated monster!! But if I had to pick someone from Springfield, I'd have to pick Mrs. Bouveier. Sorry Zaurial, but your gonna have to change your signature, the cartoon clan is strictly TV cartoon characters, if we go into Online characters, then some people will want comic book characters, then some'll want to make there own characters, now as cool as that sounds, it'd make this way too complicated. Please choose a character that has been featured in a TV Show, believe it or not, I've checked the backgrounds of every character requested in this clan, so everybody can know that there is such a character out there and catch an episode or strike up a conversation maybe even convert some fans, if they can't catch an episode online, how will they ever find out about them? Sorry to disappoint you, but please change it.

Ah, characters I love to hate. I'm gonna have to go with my namesake on this thread, Zapp Brannigan. You can't like the guy, because he's so smarmy, but you can't totally dislike someone so stupid and pathetic.

On another note, I'm sure everyone has checked out the thread earlier and seen that Bill Murray is the new voice of Garfield. But did you guys know, that the movie is live action?! Perhaps this was covered earlier, but I have a horrible memory, so I don't think it has. Since this is the area of cartoons, I just thought everyone should know. (I just hope if it's live action, it's better than Scooby-Doo.)
