I'm really into comics and am just trying to see what everyone thinks are good back issues to look for.

Just to give you an idea, I like:

Stories by J. Michael Straczynski, Kevin Smith.

Artwork by Michael Turner, Todd McFarlane, Alex Ross, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Tony Daniel.

Comics with Spawn, The Darkness, Witchblade, Venom, Carnage, Pitt, Deathlok, Fathom, Magdalena, Wolverine, X-Men, Superman, Hulk, Star Wars, Spider-man, JLA, Ultimates.

Go ahead and post your recommendations and I'll check them out. Thanks!

Back issues of Ultimate Spidey is great but very costly so I suggest the TPB's. $14.95 for one story arc (usually 6-8 issues).

Back back back back back back back back issues of Amazing Spider-Man were the greatest. You know the ones w/Stan Lee and Steve Ditko/John Romita Sr. Now maybe they are a bit costly for one issue ($50-$1000.00?) so I suggest the essentials. For $14.95 you get 22-24 issues all in black and white.

Hope I help!:classic:

Thanks! I've been wanting to read Superman: For All Seasons. Read Superman: Peace on Earth, it is a great comic. Haven't touch any of the JSA yet, maybe I'll give it a try.

Is the Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob stuff older? I really havent' seen any around.

The older Amazing Spider-man are real good. I'm trying to get the whole run from when Todd McFarlane was the artist. Just got back into it though since it started over, issue #30, since J. Michael Straczynski started. I really don't care for the Essentials though, I don't like the black and white art. I may have to get used to it though.

Thanks! Hope to hear more sujestions.

I have no idea what your taste is in comics.

I loved the X-men and have from around #137 through 245ish. I highly recommend any before the Mutant Massacre storyline roughly 215.

The Massacre was good at the time, but it really began the change from what was the X-men I loved to the current abomination on the stands now. Right when the entered the Seige Perilous - it became unreadably awful.

Some of the best X-men I've read:

The story of when Rogue first joined - its several issue long - but awesome. They don't trust her and she needs help. Brilliantly written stuff - I think its around 165/170?

Days of Future Past - 140 & 141 - believe it or not, there was a time when stories that dealt with time travel were interesting and understandable. Here's the proof.

190 & 191 - popcorn enjoyment. Kulan Gath takes over New York, turning the city into some strange Sword and Sorcerer time mixed with the usual NYC figures - X-men, Spiderman, Avengers, FF - a real fun read. Vision vs Colossus - awesome.

Around the 170's Mystique's Brotherhood of Mutants arrive and battle the X-men. Great comic fun.

Also around 200, there are some really cool battles with the Sentinals and Nimrod back when he was intimidating.

If you pick up some current stuff, you won't believe me - but the X-men used to be one of the best comics you could ever read...

Oh, and if you want to read really great Wolverine stuff - his limited series Frank Miller wrote in the Wolverine I always think of. Great, great stuff...

Thanks! I do like the X-men and Spider-man.

The Newer X-men stuff is mostly anime and I really don't care for it. It just seem like they want to through $EX in there all of the time now. There are plenty of other comics I could get if I wanted that all the time. It's not all bad though, I though Havok's bachelor party was really funny!

I got away from Spider-man for a long time. Then J. Michael Strazyncki started writing and WOW.

I like all kind though and spend way too much on it.

JSA is GREAT stuff! "Princes of Darkness" (45-50), "Return of Hawkman" (23-25), The Hunt for Extant (13-15). Usually anything with Mordru is an excellent read. The first 5 issues are really good.

Flash from 164-200 combines great art, inking, and spectacular writing. The "Blitz" story line (197-200) provides one of the greatest story lines I have ever read. Truly an emotional roller coaster.

Superman: Birthright would be story of the year material if it weren't for the Hush storyline.

Superman: Red Son was absolutely amazing.

Superman/Batman has been excellent, and the last issue featured a slew of DC villains.

1609 has been another story of the year contender.

Ultimate Six is IMHO the most intriguing of the Ultimate lines.

Transformers, Sojourn, and Way of the Rat are all top-notch Indy titles.

JLA/JSA Virtue and Vice (soft cover TPB)
Outsiders
Teen Titans
Doc Ock/Spider-Man: Negative Exposure

More good stuff.

I agree with tyroclix on the earlier X-men stuff, definitely beats a lot of the garbage now brandishing the name....

And for some awesome Alex Ross/Superman schtuff...ya can't beat Kingdom Come!
If you can get your paws on the Quiver story arc Kevin Smith did for Green Arrow...it's pretty kickin' too.
Superman/Batman is goin' to be a rockin' book for awhile.
Also if you're into alternate worlds and stuff check out Exiles...it's like X-Men meets Quantum Leap!!
Can't really help you on the non-DC/Marvel schtuff. The only two books outside these Universes I collect are Voltron (which is also an awesome revamp) and Strangers in Paradise (Which I recommend to anyone who loves an awesome story with endless plot twists!).
