Thanks to clix, i'm buying comics again. I've been out of the game for a while, but think I should keep buying. What titles should I start picking up?
Recently I bought:
mystique #7
crimson dynamo #1 (which was terrible and I'll never buy again)
Uncanny X-men
Avengers
green arrow
batman
daredevil
I hear the 'ultimates' are good. should I pick up those? also, 1602 has a lot of buzz, but i've yet to see it.
1602 is GREAT!! Neil Gaiman writes and Andy Kubert draws.
It is a Limited Series, though, and hard to find. My comic shop sells out the day it comes out.
I would recommend The New X-Men, but Grant Morrison is leaving in a few issues.
Chuck Austen is finally ruining his run on Uncanny X-Men. I mean come on-- Nightcrawler's dad is Satan?!? Archangel is really an angel (as in from Heaven)?!? I think Chuck Austen is forgetting what comic book company he writes for. This is Marvel Comics not Image Comics.
My current comic books I buy:
1) JLA (consistently good)
2) JSA (best written team book out there)
3) Amazing Spider-Man (JMS & JR, Jr.)
4) WildC.A.T.s 3.0 (this is a really good comic)
5) Superman/Batman (Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness)
6) all the Ultimate titles (I'm one of the old school collectors that actually likes the Ultimate Universe)
7) Powers (Brian Michael Bendis, what else is there to say?)
8) Alias (Bendis, again. This title is ending as of issue 29)
9) X-Treme X-Men (Chris Claremont, baby! Although, I will admit, Claremont is a "love 'em or hate 'em guy" with the fans anymore)
There are a lot of great TPBs out there if you can't or don't want to buy back issues. Too many to list actually.

Ultimate Marvel titles are awsome. I'd highly recommend Ultimate Spider-Man, X-Men, and Ultimates. Another great title is Superman/Batman from Loeb and McGuiness. Sojourn from Crossgen is fantastic. Fantastic Four (a title I hated for years) is quite good.
Pick up Batman for sure. 1602 is also awesome but if you cannot get it from the beginning then wait to get the TPB. Mystique hasn't been too bad of a read, but it's not a top list one either. Ultimates is a great read if you don't mind everything being rewritten about the avengers and like a Captain America who'll do whatever it takes to win.
I'd also recommend Exiles and Amazing Spiderman on the marvel side and the new Teen Titans and the Outsiders on the DC side of things.
Also, out of all "indy" comics out there you should definately get the Hellboy TPBs. Best comics I've read in a long time.

I agree with ro_gan the JSA is one of the best books out there if you like that one the also pick up the Flash (same Writer). The Jim Lee run on Batman was awesome pick up the Trades or hardcovers when you can. The Batman/superman series is getting good as well.

Am buying all the dc titles except the batman family. I will give shouts out to Supreme Power, the Avengers, and the Inhumans. Note Teen Titans and the Outsiders would be good for you because they just started up again.

Buy Runaways. It is one of the best titles out there.

Here's what I've been reading lately:
-1602: Everyone is dead on with this one, it rocks
-Batman: The Jim Lee/Jeff Loeb run was really excellent
-Agent X: Simone/Lee/Udon stuff only. The other team really sucked, but Simone et al make this my most recent favorite read
-JSA: A friend got me hooked, and I've yet to be disappointed
JLA/Avengers: Good story, many humorous parts, well drawn, well written. Definetely worth reading
-X-men Titles except Uncanny: The whole satan angle in Uncanny is pretty lame, but the rest of the books rock
-Emma Frost: Interesting back story to a character whose background was never explained in great length
-Avengers: Great stuff, it was great to see the return of the Red Skull
-Ultimate Six: One of the only ultimates I read, I like the combinations of villains. Makes me like Doc Ock even more.
JSA All Stars: Good read, especially if you like JSA.
Those are the books that I look forward to. I work in a comic shop, so I'll read almost anything that hits the shelves, but those are the ones that make me go to work early, so I can make sure I get to read them.

Here are some comics I get that I highly reconmend-
OUTSIDERS-It's good, and right now they are fighting Brother Blood.
NYX-Mush better then I thought it would be
Exiles-But start with the TPBs. When Chuck Austen writes it, the book will suck. (I hate that guy)
Kabuki-I got into because of clix, and it's really interesting and funny. (In a dark dark way)
Also check out this link. Crossgen lets you read the first issue of their comics for free. For a months subscription (which is only a few bucks) you can read most issues of their comics.
Right now I'm liking Sigil, and Sojourn.

I will echo Superman/Batman, 1602, New X-Men (runs rings around Uncanny), Ultimate Six, and The Ultimates, and JLA/Avengers.
Teen Titans and the Outsiders show some promise, but have yet to wow me.
Amazing Spider-Man is pretty consistently good. There is the occaisional dry issue or storyline, but at least you've got JRJr art to get you through it.
The Exiles is the most easily accessable X-book there is. The storylines are clearly marked on the cover. Just grab a part one and enjoy. You'll come back for part two.
A lot of people are dropping Batman after the Lee/Loeb run. Don't be one of those people! Azzarello and Russo are starting something special (and entirely different than what came before it).
Reading Promethea will get you laid, high, and/or converting your religion.

Not to jump on anyones crudlist but 1602 is okay, nothing you haven't seen before with a different reality, but it isn't bad, which is sad when you use that phrase to rate books....it doesn't suck.
You should wait for the TPB for 1602, because marvel has been putting them out like 2 weeks after the final issue of the series, which still boggles my mind how they make money.
Echoing though, JSA, best team book you will have read in a lonnnnnnngtime, JLA, is a very close second but they have had single issues that were just god awful stupid! Hellboy is a great read, great team book, the BPRD also is a good team book. Right now every fan boys dream Avengers/JLA is out and not to put any spoilers in this thread, but you get answers to some big "Who would beat who" battles, and they don't cheap it out either, it's stragiht up beating, plain and simple.....plus it has some really funny moments. It is every 6 weeks to spread out the cost of a 6 dollar book, so it's great, best Perez art EVER.....EVER!!!! And Busiek nails the writing for the characters. Period.
JLA/JSA one shot virtue/vice is out in soft back now definet pick up. Marvel books, I would recomend Fantastic Four now and I can't recomend the Avengers enough.
I'm just going to post what I buy, and add stars for how good i think it is on a 1 to 5 scale. Hope it helps.
Outsiders *****
Teen Titans *****
New Xmen *****
Uncanny Xmen**(Angel nightcrawler story)****(Everything else)
1602****
Any Ultimate series ranks ****/*
Crimson Dynamo (I wholeheartedly agree here)*(but I have to keep buying it because my Crimson D story got turned down by epic, and imho was better than what he wrote..matter of fact, I might start a thread on it..)
Human Defense Corps ****(Though it's over now, it was a great run)
Arrowsmith*****
Smax***(Not as good as Top Ten, but an allright read nonetheless.)
Punisher ****
X-Treme Xmen**/*(I'm on the hate side of Chris's fence, but I have to admit, the book is picking up)
Trouble **(can't believe I'm still buying it)
Possessed **(Same deal)
Planetary****(though getting the old stuff can be hard)
I do agree that the White Queen book is great, though I only rate what I buy.
First Issue of NYX was great..I love the art, the story looks good, and Quesada's writing it, so it'll probably be around for awhile, definetly worth checking into.
You know Darthnader, you just convinced me to pick up promethea! I've heard alot of wild stuff about it, but that's the best objective description I've heard yet. Now I'll go get some issues. Thanks!
Right..I'll take my gibbering to another thread now...I think this one went on long enough.

so, let's see:
batman
Uncanny
new x-men
all the ultimates
Mystique
JLA
Avengers
JSA
and that ought to be good... and i'll wait for the 1602 tpb, since 1602 has never been seen by my eyes at my comic book store.

I forgot about one more that everyone should be reading and that is H.E.R.O, an update of the old "Dial H for Hero" machine, the device turns whoever is using it into a superhero, its a great book and I think would make a very intersting Clix completly different superpowers on every click
There's a lot of good stuff out there.
JLA, Teen Titans, Outsiders, and Nightwing (although that's really just one of those titles I buy no matter who's writing/penciling). I'm also interested to see how Robin will turn out with the new creative team coming. I plan on giving the Superman books a try with the revamp too.
Spectacular Spiderman has been good, but I'm one of those that likes Humberto Ramos. Thor's been fun, Ultimate titles are kinda cool, New Mutants and NYX have been a different flavor of X, and I anxiously await Cable/Deadpool. I think that one comes out in March though.
And although I'm not a big fan of indy comics, I must say that everything I've read from Crossgen so far has been good. Ruse, Sojourn, Way of the Rat, The Path, and El Cazador are great. At first I just bought some of the cheap travel sized TPB. Now I find myself compulsively picking up the others and any regular issues I can. I'd definitely say that I've quickly become a Crossgen fanatic. Even more so than the major two companies.

I for one love the Flash, many great Trades out there if you do not want to track down the back issues.
These are just the titles I buy:
New X-Men: I'll admit, the early "E for Extinction-Imperial" stoyline was slightly hard to follow, but the current story is classic. A great charecter (Xorn) is... oh, you'll just have to read it. But the new one has lots of Jean/ Logan tension!
Runaways: VERY VERY underated. I don't much care for where the new storyarc is going, but the first 6 issues (now in TPB) are some of the best comics I've ever read, and got 4 people I know into comics. (4 is a lot more than it sounds, considering these people had little/no knowledge of comics beforehand.)
Fantastic Four: Not only is it easy to follow (like Exiles) but it has famieler charecters, good villains, (DOOM! SKRULLS! MOLE! ... man.) and the more you read it, the more you want to know what the hell is going on. Is that a good thing?
Ultimate Spider-Man: Awesome. Bendis rules. Bagley rules. Classic Spider-Man.
STUFF NEWBIES SHOULD AVOID:
Batman: Too much backstory. It's really good if you know your what's and who's, but get some info first.
Aquaman: Wait for the TPB. Where it is right now (in 11-12 issues or something) is way too hard to understand. I can't read 2 pages without wondering just what this so-called "Thirst" is.
Ultimate X-Men: They rule and all, but read the TPBs (you don't have to buy them, just read them in the store) then buy the new issues. Just my idea.
OK! That's all I got.

all right, another list
batman...I know the back story somewhat, and I can always ask. It's been a while, but bats has always been a fave of mine.
daredevil, the art is so beautiful
mystique-it sucked me in. what can I say?
Avengers
JLA
Teen Titans
Ultimate Spiderman
Uncanny X-Men
batman/superman
fantastic four! I can't believe I forgot them!
flash has been a fave of mine, and he fights monkeys a lot, so that's good.
if I see anything else, I'll prolly pick it up.
Anything with bendis is great, the stuff from the creator of Babylon 5 is good too...I just got issue 1 and 2 of The walking dead...great stuff
