He is superstrong, of course, and has Invulnerability. He also has Running Shot, which when combined with his good range, makes him a versatile character. But his cosmically aware nature kicks in deep in the dial, gaining OutWit. Captain Marvel’s range and speed values and Ranged Combat Expert make him a perfect piece of long-range artillery, but his point value necessitates making him the central character in your force. He’s got the depth, defense, and damage to go toe-to-toe with his foes, so unless he gets dogpiled by your opponent’s heavy hitters, you should be able to outlast and outplay your opponents.

Sweet!! So we do get Mar-Vell then! Woo-hoo!
Okay sculpt -- a tad horse-faced, but the details are nice. Sounds like a playable figure even at 158 pts. Another one to look forward to!

Hmmmm. It appears we are getting a health dose of RS in this set. Perhaps and after effect of the new rules?
Not that I'm complaining. I like the look of this set more and more, though I wish the pose was more "action" based. Oh well, he still looks good.

Why the long face, Mar-vel?
Oh, never mind...
Not bad. Kinda goofy lookin', but not bad. I would rather have the real Captain Marvel, though. You know, the Big Red Cheese ...

But he's got outwit, and his dial lets you outplay and outlast your opponent. Aargh !

I'm gonna have to get every fig in this set. Cosmic powered characters are my bag baby. I would so LOVE to see some cosmic themed maps. Ohhhh...Thanos' temple to Death from the Infinity Gauntlet. That would f'in ROCK!

"Not by the hair on my chiny, chin, chin."
So we now need an R/E/V of the current and that's a nice set.

I was going to say it looks like he's pulling his shorts up but I think "horse-face" covers it better. Plus, I'm sure it's the angle that the picture was taken, he looks a bit comical.
Still, I'm glad to see it. I think Capt. Marvel is LONG overdue.

His powers sound pretty similar to the LE Crimson Dynamo. Be interesting to see how the extra points add up to his benefit (or otherwise).
Like the fact that he's not front-loaded with outwit. Always thought Marvel did better with that than DC. Should be an excellent fig!
I am thinking he is going to be a beast. I wonder if his Cosmic Awareness also translates into PC at some point? But I will take outwit anytime anywhere. He should be at least 10 clicks from the sounds of it.
So much for Christmas for the family, and I just crossed snow tires of my list!

Marvel is one of those classic heroes. Great choice for a Heroclix Figure. I agree with the Super Strength. I agree with the Running Shot, Outwit, and RCE. But, I'm not too sure about the Invul. I don't remember him being THAT hard to hurt. You'd think that Hercules could take a blow better, and he just has toughness.
Several times they say he is COMSICALLY AWARE, yet no talk of any Super Senses anywhere on his dial, Hmmmmmmm.

So somebody break it down for me, are all these cosmic guys essentially the same give or take a few shreads of fabric, besides different looks and backgroundsthey all sound the same to me. The only defining factor seems to be the possession of cosmic awareness or not.

The sculpt is ok. Not great, by any stretch. I guess there's only so many flying poses they can use.
We'll see how he stacks up against Thanos. Now I really want to track down a Thanos from IC.
Mar-vell
10/29/2003, 17:06
Just a few comments...
I am so excited about this. Captain Marvel is not my favorite character (no matter what my screen name might imply), but he is definitely in the top 5.
The sculpt isn't great (CreaturByNite that was hilarious) but I have seen a lot worse. The details look really good, if only it were a more dynamic pose.
The thread about the Germany con lists his first click stats as a 12 move w/ running shot, 11 AV with super strength, 17 defense with invulnerablity, 3 damage with RCE and he has a 10 range. If this is all true, combined with what the preview says about him having a really deep dial and outwit too, he should be pretty sweet for 150 something points.
What WAS the deal with Survivor reference? I'm a fan of the show but I don't go around talking about voting people off the island at work. And its not as if Mar-vell is much of a survivor; the big C took care of him pretty good.
It's Jay Leno as Captain Marvel!!
Great character that Marvel should have never killed off in my opinion. That is one sad graphic novel. But anyway, sculpt looks fine - - - I'm sure it is tough thinking up new poses for all of these characters. From his point value, he looks like he will be dangerous. At 158, he should be relatively similar to the Unique Phasing G.L. issued in Cosmic Justice. Wizkids has included some great characters in this set. The majority I'm interested in are unfortunately uniques. Here's hoping for some lucky boosters.
Everybody is LIKING Jim J Bullock-clix??? man, that sculpt blows worse than Akira-Kid Majik and Playdoh-Man Terrax....eh.
And that pose is as 'alternative' as Captain America's. The greatest heroes....the worst sculpts.
TheRavenHQ
10/29/2003, 17:15
errr... Why does everyone say that that's a great sculpt? His legs are too short... I mean compare his shin to this head...
I just went to the Wizkids site and looked at the thing spin, his legs are definatly too short.
megakilroy
10/29/2003, 17:19
Yeah, the pose is a little too "do these tights make my butt look big?" for my liking. Not that a preview sculpt ever got me more or less excited for a new set of Marvel HeroClix though.
AlaskanXIII
10/29/2003, 17:21
And look at those tiny feet! He's like a cosmically-powered Krusty the Clown!
YES! YES!! YES!!! YES!!!!
Finally, my most awaited and wanted hero is made. And a Unique to boot.

Maybe they decided to move way from that standing on the clear base which results in a figure that falls off every two seconds (like Mandarin, Iron Man, etc.).
The Ridge

Doesn't say if he gets Super Senses which being a guy who is cosmically aware and knows what you're going to do shouldn't that mean he gets that ability.

Meh, never was a Captain Marvel fan, the sculpt looks really goofy, but the stats show promise. I have said many times I will play a Rupaul Heroclick if it will guarentee me a win in those circumstances.
I have to say, I've just seen the Adam Warlock sculpt and paint job in another thread, and he and this Captain Marvel look like really good 'buddies', if you know what I mean ...
Harsh comments from the art critics.....
I would think he would have a red S on his chest and a red cape with that pose....... and a small button you can push that says "truth, justice, and the American way".
but that's just ny opinion....
If I get him....trade bait!

does it seem that all figs with a 100+ point-tag are going to get RS/hypersonic automatically ?!
this will seriously make older uniques without it weaker (especially with the Indy-rules).

I prefer the other kind, my mandarin stays on the base, yet my martian manhunter has offically too chubby a peg and split the base nearly in half, i'd rather have to hold the dude on than half to perma-glue everything together.

Put me down for another...
Dial sound good,
Sculpt looks bad.
Don't get me wrong, he's got some great definition but very disproportionate. The chin is comical, the smile goofy and the stance is WAY too much like Captain America. Does the same guy sculpt all the "Captain" figs. I'm only speaking out because we could have got some sort of really heroic flying pose with the Quantum bands crossed in front of him. Wasn't Captain America's sculpt one of the ones needed to be remade? At least Cap had his shield to pose with. I'll reverve final judgement until I have it in my hand, but, it looks like I might have to get out the modding tools.
As for the flight base, this is something that must be addressed! I understand what you guys who mentioned wanting pegs or stands are saying. You're both right. Ever since they "fixed" the flight stands, the clear base ones fall off repeatedly, and the peg ones do stress and break the slotted stem. I'm actually amazed players haven't complained more about this. It's something that absolutely needs to be looked into.

It sounds like he'll be a very playable figure, but boy, I really hope this is a case of the picture not doing the sculpt justice. His head is as oversized as his feet are tiny. Hopefully this is just the perspective somehow exaggerating the figure in the picture.

Actually Alan Moore is retiring from comics, hes only going to do LXG once in while from now on, as soon as he closes up all his ABC books. So it wont be him.

Well From the Guys out in Germany there. It was said 2 didnt have Running Shot, Dormmamu, Hulk, and Morgena La Fay! Silver Surfer Beta Ray Bill, Warbird, and Terrax have Running Shot.
Ones we dont know yet Nova and Ronan the Accuser.
So its not quite.
the Hulk using a bazooka is ridicilous, so I can't really count him as a ranged attacker (well, he has range now SO range IS superior to melee !):ermm:
Morgana has a whopping 12 range with 3 targets MC,If she can use it once on your team they are all ko'ed....
Dormmamu.. well he looks silly
I thought to see that Nova has RS too (in any case she should get it being a superior Torch.
yep, with the new rules and all this RS, HC is going the way of Mageknight...
play range or play stealth..:noid:

I've a feeling I'll love the dial.
But, I hate the POSE.
WK did this with Captain America. A completely silly looking "heroic" pose. Why?!?! Give us action poses!
The posters packed with the cases usually give a sculptor's name. I can't wait to see if this is the same sculptor as for Cap.

YES I'M SU-PER, THANKS FOR ASKING!!!
It's a good pose on the Captain Marvel figure, but the Head is awful !!!
Looks like a moded Plastic Man head.
It will be a shame to mod a Unique - but I really think the head/face on this one require it.
On the other hand, the initial picture of Psylock made us all go Aaaaaargh, and yet my figure, when I got it, was fine - however, I think it will take more than an improved paint job to save this one...
Very glad to see him though...

The TV show Survivor's motto is Outwit, outplay, outlast. Reread the Capt. Marvel design notes and discuss amongst yourself.

Team Captain Marvel with a Rookie Psylocke and you got a faster moving Vet Thor (same point cost even) with the potentially more powerful punch (If he has RCE with a base of 3). He's going to be quite the rage.

Interesting, I was half expecting that they would've given us the "new" Captain Marvel over the original (since they seem to like doing it with Spider-man villains). First click sounds great, a lot like Veteran Iron Man's (with a better AV to boot!)
But that sculpt! Ack! That face is hideous! I'm pretty sure that he'll end up just about as ugly in our hands as he does in the picture since there is no hair to ide his featues like the Psylocke scuplt was able to do. Probably the worsed composed piece of plastic since HT Superman. I'm guessing that this guy and Adam Warlock are gonna keep the modding community pretty busy come December.

Depending upon how large the figure is it just might make a good Tick mod.

At least we know who to cast if a Captain Marvel movie ever comes out :p They tried Shaq, for Pete's sake. How bad could Leno hurt?
Nice sculpt. Except for the...you know...chin.
Hey stanleylee, absolutely right. VERY Jimmy Hill.
(For our American friends, Jimmy Hill is an ex soccer player who is now a TV pundit over here. To say his chin is prominant, is to miss a good opportunity to say that his chin is mountainesqe in its magnificence. The man used to have a tiny goatee beard - he shaved it off, and it made NO DIFFERANCE. He is a bit of an English Institution - old, craggy, and no dress sense. Great Football comentator, though...)
...but I digress...
do we know who sculpted this, and how soon can WizKids employ the Perry twins ??

Can you use enhancement with RCE? Last I heard, you can not.
