View Full Version : Northeast Regional Heroclix Championships
I would like to take an opportunity, on behalf of my venue, to announce the Northeast Regional Heroclix Championships. They will be held at CJ’s Sports in Alliance, OH. This will be January 16-19th 2004. We are currently planning on have 10 Major Heroclix Tournaments as well as some Battle Royals. We are also planning on hosting some Mageknight and Mechwarrior tournaments as well. We are working with Wizkids on prizes and will be announcing those in the next couple weeks. We are very excited about hosting this year’s Heroclix Regional Championships and we will be working hard in the weeks ahead to ensure that everyone that attends has a great weekend.

I think this is great. But to be quite honest, when you said Northeast, I figured the event would be in Boston or NYC, not Ohio. That's what I get from living in New England all of my life.
To be honest, so did I. Somewhere someone said that everyone living in Ohio thinks of themselves as part of the Midwest and everyone in the Midwest thinks of Ohio as part of the Northeast.

And WV is said to be Northeast, as well as Southeast, but I just like to think of us as in the middle.

Yeah, I got all excited for a minute until I realised the NE regional championship was bing held in the midwest.
I suppose when the Northwest or Southeast Regionals are held here in New England I'll have to sign up!
Alright My map program says that it would take me 13.5 hours to get there which means I will do it in 13 with a couple stops. But now I just have to figure whether or not I get that monday as a paid holiday or not. And I have to find a friend to join me and get a hotel room...... Well maybe I can do it, maybe not.
I can see the logic of Ohio being in the Northeast but with sooooo many cons and everything out that way already it would be nice to get something closer to home, like in Boston. Or Montreal even, wouldn't that just be sweet, casinos clubs and clix ain't nuthin better!

We were lucky to have the last Midwest Regionals here in Chicago. Not a bad turnout for the Heroclix events, usually a good 30-40 players per event from what I recall. The next Midwest Regional was rewarded to a venue in Indiana, not sure how WK picked Ohio as being in the NE, but at least it's still not too far from Chicago.
Good luck with the event. I've already started talking with some of my local players about making the trek out in January.
Hey folks,
I just wanted to let everyone know that the site has been updated with all the schedules for the weekend.. The link is below:
Hey folks,
I updated the schedule with a minor change. The DC Friday night event has been altered slightly. Also, I will post a list of all the LEs that we will be giving out as prizes in the few days.
Stay tuned!

the midwest regionals was awarded to my venue, more than games. check out clixcon.com for any info on the midwest regional. from what i heard, we have a bunch of states as far out as iowa, but no kentucky or ohio. and it's funny too, because the venue is not more than a half hour drive from the ohio state line!!!! anyways, my question: will i be able to play in your other tournaments, excluding the regional? from what i heard by the guy running clixcon, ohio players are welcome for every event BUT the regional.
I'll look into this and get back with you. I can't see why anyone would be banned based on where they are from.
I'm having some problems with the link. Can you post or PM me with the URL?

ps: Living in Ohio, I have never thought of myself as the Northeast.

Hope this works for you!
I have a major update that I know many of you have been waiting for. Our prize list has been posted for the Northeast Regional Championships.
Oh, scspider23, I am still awaiting official response from Wizkids about your question but the general feeling that I got from other Judges was that Wizkids would never ban anyone from a Regional Championships based on where they live. I'll get back to you with the official word as soon as I hear from them.
1000 point Marvel w/5 actions I understand the need to speed up large games, but this is unfair to teams like X-men, who can use extra actions to click-swap. Of course the "Only characters over 100 points" pretty much negates this one!
I would also consider "Doombot(TM)" a named character.
We actually took this scenario from these forums, playtested it with our local HC players and tweaked some rules. It is one of my players favorite scenarios and I thought it would be fun to include it in the Regionals. Remember, you still have a chance for your leadership roll if one of your figures currently has that power.
As for Doombot, I'm not much of a comic book reader but from what I understand, Dr. Doom made hundreds, if not thousands of Doombots that look exactly like him to lessen the chances of an assassination attempt. Hence why he would be a non-named character. It would be similar to the fact that there are a great many AIM Agents or Shield Snipers.
Hey,
Yeah, I've always considered us to be in the midwest, but I really am not arguing and it is great to be having a championship so near :)
Also, hopefully the two of us can put our past behind us B5Garak, and I think I owe you an apology face to face when I see you. The entire event should be a blast, and I know we will be having a large amount of people showing us. I think someone told me Ohio has the 2nd largest amount of Clix players behind California actually.

I certainly hope that we can. I do have a question for you that you might be able to help me out on. I will be up in the Cleveland area tomorrow (Monday). I will be bringing with me over 100 flyers for the Championships to give to the different venues in the area to give to their players. Can you recommend any places in particular to drop by?
Also, to all you Judges out there that will be attending. The call for volunteers went out last week on the Wizkids Regional Envoy Forums. There are still many blocks up for grabs, so take a look and get your RSVP in soon!
Well, its a bit late but I was at my grandparents all weekend, but send them to Compendium Collectibles, Ground Zero, Warzone Matrix, Gamer's Haven, the Gamekeeper in Great Northern and Parma, Alter Reality, Matrix Games and Diversions, Matrix Games in Oberlin, and Recess Games. That pretty much sums up all the places which holds tournements around here. If you wanted, you could find some way to send me the fliers and I could help distribute them. Ill be sure to try and get Jesse to throw up an advertisement on Jesseville * our site * for the 3-4 people who may sometimes maybe check it.

b5garak, if The Clown comes to town, where's the absolute cheapest place he could stay? I can either play or judge, but the budget is pretty tight, so PM me and let me know. I may bring my brother or a friend....not for certain though.
Hey Clown,
The Hotel list is already on the website (listed in my signature). I'll look later today, after work, if I can find any cheaper than what is already there. I'll PM you more about Judging later today too :)
Gorrack - Thanks for the list, I stopped at most of those places that you listed (I even got to play a tournament at Matrix Games & Diversions in Sheffield Lake). I just didn't want to overlook anything major like a new venue in town.

Scspider23, I finally have an answer for you. I am told that regional events are defined by where the venue is, not the player base. If players are willing to travel from outside the region, then more power to them. They will be allowed to compete for the Championship Title.
So yes you can play in all events and compete for the Northeast Champion.
Hmm... the Northeast regionals being held at what could be considered the very outskirt of the Northeast, most likely part of the Midwest even. That's great news to all us over here. Now I could drive 16 hours to Ohio or Wizkids could actually set up a tournament in the Northeast where there will be more people from the Northeast than the Midwest showing up. That would be grand. Boston, New York, anywhere inbetween would be great. Well, the majority of the fanatical clix players in the Northeast are screwed out of the chance to play in the NORTHEAST Regionals. Thanks, I appeciate it.

Ya know, I have heard this over and over and its getting a little tiresome. If you have a problem with where the championships are located, talk to your local venue about signing up for the next one this coming spring. From what I understand, the reason that the Regionals is in Ohio is that CJ's Sports had the best plan for a regional event.
I don't want to have it at my local venue, the point was to make it central to people in the Northeast, pal, not to get it to a place right outside my door. Don't get snippy at me. The reason I suggested Boston or NY is because it's CENTRAL to most of the NE. I'd still have to travel quite some distance for it but I'm ok with that. Glad you're a judge with such a bad attitude.
Next year, Northeast Championships to be held in LA because they had the best plan for a regional event! Come one, come all!
I apologize if I seemed rude but if you want to discuss why you think the Regionals is being held in the wrong place I would ask that you do it in a different thread. This thread is dedicated to questions and comments that pertain to the NE Regionals in Alliance OH.
Sorry if I offended you,
Well, quite frankly, mine was a comment. If no one voices their displeasure then nothing will ever change.
Hope your even goes well, I'll leave your thread alone now that I've spoken my peace.
Hi everyone,
I want to announce that our Championship Prize for Heroclix will be a Dr. Karla Sofen LE. All the LEs listed are now confirmed by Wizkids!
Don't forget that the last day for Preregistration is this coming Friday (January 9th). You can preregister for the entire con or single days.
Hope to see you there!
WOW! you guys are really concerned with what part of the country Ohio is in. So let me help you out, Ohio is in Big Ten country. Not the Midwest or the Northeast. But, this is the Northeast Regional Championships so what that means is we want all you BigEast guys to come over here and play. Alliance has a sweet set up and their is a hotel attached to the mall. It couldn't be easier, food, bed, games, and you never have to go outside. Anyways what I'm trying to say is everyone is welcomed, well except those Michigan Wolverine fans (sorry your not invited). :p

really?
thanks for checking in on that, it was my understanding that only players who lived in the states that fell in the region's boundry were allowed to participate in official regional events. that's still the impression my venue has given me, but i appreciate you looking into it.
UNFORTUNATELY, i have devoted my funds and time and what little sanity i have left towards the events at clixcon (the midwest regionals + other events), so i will not be able to attend your event. i hope your events go well! check out clixcon.com if you want to see what the midwest has in store for it's clix players, the 2 day schedule was finally posted this weekend.
peace out homeskillet ;)
Hey everyone!
I would just like to take a moment and thank everyone who came out and played in the Northeast Regional Championships. I hope everyone had a good time. Our champions for each line have been posted on the website along with many pictures.
Again thank you all for a great weekend!

Unclelumpy, I owe you many thanks on another matter that prolly shouldn't be discussed amongst the players. You and Smartguy know what I'm talking about. :)
All I will say is, I must have rolled supersenses or something
