okay i just picked up the TPB of Danger Girl the ultimate collection. it reprints issues 1-7.

i wondered what issue this comic is on today? or more importantly if there is a following TPB of 8-14? (I'm not down with comics that reprint 3 different covers each month, I dropped GI JOE because of this.)

can anyone help me out?

These are the DG issues made so far (not including cover reprints):

#0 (Preview special)
#1-7 (Danger Girl)

#1 (Hawaiian Punch one-shot)

#1-2 (Kamikaze! mini-series)

Currently, there have been nothing new, except more reprints.

thanks azraelwrd...i just bought that hawaiian punch and kamikaze 2 parter. but they dont look like the real deal. must be because j scott campbell wasnt drawing them.:ermm: I still need to read them though.

but at least i know there isnt anything else out there...except the tons of different covers for each issue. god i hate it when they do that. it makes me not want to buy any issue.

Hahaha! Probably on the 25th reprinting of the "series" - this time with a pop-up foil, 3-D, pencil sketch cover.

Joke Scott Campbell and Joe Mad really let this reader down. Battlechasers and Danger Girl were good - at least the first 3 issues. Then when they went to that reprint 1-3, then 6 months later #4 - I lost all respect for them - especially as I got to read about all the exciting Danger Girl stuff for the future - Video Games, Film adaptation - what a joke.

Crimson was the only line that kept to their schedule - and even as the story faultered, I kept getting it as a show of support.

Sure this rant has nothing to do with your question - but I know when (make that IF) I see stuff with those guy's names on it - its a big fat pass from me.

i dont blame you...i never would have picked up any issues if i saw multi covers and dealer incentive covers of the same issue for sale. I $*#@ing hate that stuff.

I bought the TPB with everything but those last 3 comics azraelwrd mentioned on an impulse while at the bookstore. I loved the story. but i do see your point how it seems to be made just to ge a movie deal and merchadise. its really too bad.

but i think between those 3 issues az mentioned and the ultimate collection TPB there is nothing else.

There was a new Danger Girl Viva Las Vegas Special (or something like that) that came out a couple weeks ago.

yeah thats right! thats the issue i bought today and thought was that old issue of hawaiian punch...hmmm. well good thing there is a heroclix tourney tomorrow. i can just pick it up then.

btw: i think that 2 parter KAmakazi was terrible junk. the danger girls didnt look the same, the story was rushed and squished into 2 books when it could have been better if it was extended like the first 7 issue story line. oh well. another wasted criminal organization that could have been their COBRA to their GI JOE. :ermm:

Oh, yeah, I forgot about "Viva Las Vegas"... I'll have to pick that up sometime next year...

As a DG fan, I have to get every issue (but NO REPRINTS! I don't do reprints).

Well, HP and K! were different for one reason: new staff

HP's story was by Campbell and Hartnell, but the art was by the same guy that did Birds of Prey over on DC.

K! was written and art done by Tommy Yune. I didn't think iut was THAT bad, but the ending was a tad anti-climactic. Oh well... it's better than nothing.

It would be nice if the original people sat down and hammered out another 7 parter with the same kind of story flow and art.

I dont think i can keep buying these one shots and two parters. I feel like i'm not getting what the original stuff gave me....my money's worth!

:( looks like i'll just have to re-read that TPB i bought and prentend another 7 parter follow up is in the works.

I love the Danger Girls to death, but Noto just doesn't have the tongue in cheek expressions and high octane action of Scott.

Plus it's really obvious that Scott isn't helping with the dialogue anymore. It's not quite as funny. If Scott doesn't want to draw anymore, he should consider getting Ed Benes or Al Rio to sit in instead. But at the very least, help out with the quirky dialogue.

Kamikaze could have used two more issues, but I loved it.

I remember when I first got the book, and loving the Charlie's Angels meets James Bond motif. When I saw the CA movie, I had to do a double take to mke sure i ddn't say Danger Girl in the credits. You've got to wonder if Mc G read DG. LOL!

I wouldn't let cover variants bother you. Just buy the one you like best. I always peek in a book due to my amnesia though, just to make sure I don't by a book twice by accident though. No one buys novels thimking they will increase in value, and comics should be the same way. Only story and art should matter. Ten years down the road, only Golden and Silver Age books will have retained value. I point to Valiant, New Universe, and Image books in the quarter bins as proof of this.

Hmm... how DID it get so famous with so few issues?

No offense, just curiousity but generally a comic with that few issues is considered 'promising', not something that I've heard of as much as I have DG. I've read the TPB, and it's good, but can someone explain more on why it's as big as it is?

Briel

One. It was very very good (the initial seven issues are incredible).

Two. Scott was coming off of a white hot run on Gen13 at the time.

Three. During the "bad girl" craze, the Danger Girls were the only ones without anger issues (well two of them at least).

Four. With Austen Powers out, the time for an intelligent spy comedy was right.

Five. Scott doesn't just draw hot chicks well, he draws everything well.

Six. The only book from either DC or Marvel half as cool, smart, and funny, at the time was Deadpool.

A buddy brought up an idea for the top fifty TP's ever. Trust me. The original DG collection of the first story should be on everyone's list. It was that good.

The irreverent humour is also similar to that of Buffy. Most female comic fans cringed through the "bad girl" craze, but most of them seemed to have really liked DG.

Yay! I just ordered DG: Viva Las Danger to add to my collection.

DG probably picked up A LOT of popularity with Charlie's Angel 2K's popularity. Coupled with the world-spanning fascination with girl power and girl team titles and shows (Birds of Prey, Totally Spies, She Spies, Charlie's Angel movies and TV show resurgence) it was inevitable.

Yeah, I love DG too. I agree Noto isn't the same as Hartnell or Campbell, but it's better than nothing.

2 words: busty chicks

correction... FUNNY busty chicks!

Just look at the slop that Liefeld-types put out that is popular for the first few months of bikini clad bimbos. But do those "fans" remain? Nope... cuz they don't have any personality beyond their 44DD boobs and size 3 waists.

Wow, and I was starting to think that I was the only Danger Girl fan around. Any time I bring the subject up around the local comic crowds, I automatically get labeled PERV and everything I have to say after that is hastily ignored.

I bought the ultimate collection TPB as soon as I looked through the first few pages, and I've never regretted buying it for a second since. I've leafed through the miniseries and one-shots to follow, and while they were okay, nothing really quite caught the magic of the original story. Probably all because of Campbell getting less and less involved. The dialogue isn't quite as snappy as it used to be, and the art, interesting as it may be at times, can never quite compare to his. Yes, I miss Campbell's impossibly-proportioned women something fierce. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Though he can thankfully draw pretty much everything else well too. (Like the distinct Doc Marten style treads on the bottom of Major Maxim's boots. I got a kick out of that.)

I anxiously await the day that Campbell decides to return to his creation and make it 100% right again. I have a feeling I'll be waiting for a LONG time though...

What is the Dangerous Collection 3 volume set? Is that just reprinted stuff?

Briel
01/11/2004, 04:20
It is a reprint of the original 7 part story, plus the J Scott Campbell Sketchbook for DG.

You would only buy it if you were getting the series fom scratch.

Hope that helps.

Actually. With three volumes, the first special and Kamikaze mini may be in there as well. You should ask your shop owner to make sure.

Probably more and more reprints.

Got my DG:VLD and well, I liked it! I got a kick out of it more than DG:HP. Noto's art isn't great but there was more of a plot this time around so it made up for it.

Yep, I'm the only DG fan in my city...

My problem with danger girl was and is J. Scott Campell-
WTF!!!!-I read in Wizard he was like paid 5 mil, for the rights to a DG movie!!! So-forget him doing more DG, unless he can just re-pimp his already over pimped book!!

DG and Battle Chasers could have been HUGE, toppling both DC and Marvel but nooooooo, we can't put out a book on time and don't you dare complain to me cause YOU WILL shell out money to support my video game addiction!!!

Sorry, ranting.

They even have MORE DG figs coming out but now they are in the 12" variety.......sheesh......

Yeah, I noticed those new big figs on EBay, while I was searching for HC Spec Ops Savage.
