im going to start working on a new 3d map, and i was wondering if anyopne thought using a hot wire cuter is good to make the grid into my foam board base

its like a 1 foot heated wire that can cut through things,. and like by making a little cut, i can make the grids look more "realistic"

It could be a good idea if:

--you've tested it on a s#### piece and know it'll give you a thin, neat, shallow line that's visually effective.

&

-- you have a steady hand.

Offhand I suspect it's going to do more to weaken the foam mat - creating more likely flex and break lines - than it will to make a clear line. A t-square and a good, 0.5mm pen line will probably work better.

Whatever you choose, good luck! I keep saying I want to put together a 3D map but never get around to it.

It all depends on the type of foam that you are using for the board. Keep in mind, that if you have never used a hot wire cutter, they can be very tricky to move in a straight line.
