I am currently working on a custom 3-d map, and wanted to ask if a 16 X 16 square map would be too small.
Please tell me what you think.
thank you,

Depends on your scenario. 16x16 is fine for the inside of a single building - you'll even have room for interior walls. BUT if you're going to put more than one building in that spacing, you're not going to have a LOT of room for detail unless you want some very confining rooms. From my own experiences, and seeing some pretty gifted map/building-makers here, the map detail will define how many 'oohs and ahhs' you generate when you show off your 'battle theater'.

Hi,
My 3D maps are modular. Each module for sale is 12" x 12" while the prototype modules are a bit bigger.
I suggest you think of it as how many 1½" squares you want on the map. 16" x 16" will not give you multiples of 1½" if my calculations are correct and you might find that you would need a bit more than 10 squares to make it fun.
If you don't have alot of room, maybe a map that has, say, 20 squares by 10 might do the trick. Although you would probably end up playing it always in the same direction.
HTH.

Just re-read your post. I think you meant 16 squares by 16 squares. Not 16" by 16".
In that case, I think your map is a bit small - slightly smaller than the original Wizkids maps - but quite playable.
It's probably a good size for most figs and scenarios.
A new suggestion: make it 16x16 to start with, but make it modular. This way, you can add sections to it in the future if you find you need more surface.
HTH more. ;)
I find 18"X18" modules are good (4 to make a 36"X36" map which works out to a 24 squares X 24 squares)
