GorillaCon 2004
What: GorillaCon 2004
When: March 12th - 14th
Location: Pittsburg, Kansas. Southeast Kansas / Southwest Missouri.
Pittsburg State University Campus - Student Union.

Events: We have several volunteer agents in our gaming guild, able to run official tournaments and events (MIB, Press Ganger, Instigator, RPGA DMs, and Fast Forward Entertainment).
Games already scheduled include: RPGA, Steve Jackson Games, Privateer Press' WarMachine, Spy Craft, D&D, Deadlands, WarHammer, Star Wars D20, Classic Battletech, LARP, and Storyteller games, HeroClix, and many others.
We will be able to offer almost any type of game that people want to see run. We have access to good facilities. We just need people to attend.
If anyone is interested or wants more information, don't hesitate to contact the event organizer, Bob Nolan (
[email protected]), or Jesse Thacker (
[email protected]), "the friendly, neighborhood, Level 5, Central Region Envoy."
Gorilla Con is a free convention donating profits to Habitat for Humanity.
Volunteers Needed!
It looks like I'm currently the primary volunteer for GorillaCon, but I'm only 'licensed' to run HeroClix events. That meas that we are still looking for Envoys to run MechWarrior and MageKnight events, help out with the HeroClix events, and demo the other WizKidsGames games (Crimson Skies, etc.).
If you are a WizKids Envoy and are interested in helping out with this event, please contact me right away. As of today, we've got 3 weeks left to sign up for other events and we'd like to get them on the calendar as soon as we can.
Thanks, everyone ... hope to see you there!
GorillaCon 2004 HeroClix Events!
Want to know what kind of events we've got planned for HeroClix? Well, here they are!
Marvel HeroClix: "Learn the Game" Demo - Saturday at 11:00am
For new players interested in finding out just how to play HeroClix, we'll be running a Demo. If you've already got a few figures but aren't sure how they work or just want to find out how a game is played, come on out and we'll be glad to show you. WizKids should be supplying a free figure (or two) for new players, so this is a great chance to get started in this awesome game and pick up some free swag.
DC HeroClix: "Border War!" - Saturday at 1:00pm
Kansas and Missouri have been 'rivals' since the days of the Civil War. Now it's time to decide which state is superior when it comes to HeroClix. Kansas players face off against the Missouri players for bragging rights. (and don't worry if you're not from either of these states, we'll find a place for you).
Here are the special rules for this event:
1) You'll need to bring two 400pt. teams for this event, one team made up of only 'good guys' and the other consisting of only 'bad guys'. If you've got questions about whose good and who is evil, email me (
[email protected]).
2) You may not mix universes within each team, but your two teams do not have to be from the same universe.
We'll play four rounds, each state will be the good guys twice and the bad guys twice.
And, when the smoke clears, the winning state will walk away with bragging rights and, of course, we'll have the 'regular' LEs supplied from the Cosmic Justice set for the First Place and Fellowship winners. WizKids may even be throwing in something special for the top players from the winning state.
Marvel Heroclix: "Mo-Kan Junior Championships!" - Saturday at 3:00pm
The Championships for all HeroClix players 12 and under!Bring your best 400pt. team and battle it out for the title of Mo-Kan Junior HeroClix Champion!
Here are the rules:
1) Your team build must not exceed 400pts.
2) All of your characters must be from the same 'universe' (no mixing Marvel with DC, or DC with Indy, etc.).
Prizes will be awarded for First Place and Fellowship ... and WizKids may toss in some 'extras' for the winners!
Marvel HeroClix: "Mo-Kan Championships!" - Saturday at 5:00pm
Think you're the best HeroClix player in the region? Here's your chance to prove it. Bring your best 400pt. team and see if you can earn the right to call yourself the Mo-Kan HeroClix Champion!
Here are the rules:
1) Your team build total cannot exceed 400pts.
2) As with the Junior Championships, all of your characters have to be from the same 'universe'.
Prizes will be awarded for First Place and Fellowship ... and WizKids may add something 'special' for the winners!
Will start working on my teams today
New GorillaCon 2004 HeroClix Event Schedule!
Due to some confusion about the scheduling and the amount of space we'd need to play, the GorillaCon events have been rescheduled as follows.
Marvel HeroClix: "Learn the Game" Demo - Saturday at 10:30am
DC HeroClix: "Border War!" - Saturday at 10:30am
Marvel Heroclix: "Mo-Kan Junior Championships!" - Saturday at 3:00pm
Marvel HeroClix: "Mo-Kan Championships!" - Saturday at 3:00pm
Please adjust your calendars accordingly! :) And I apologize for any confusion or conflicts the re-scheduling might cause, but we still look forward to having you there. This should be an awesome day of gaming for everyone!
Also, we're still looking for an Envoy to run some MechWarrior events. If you're interesed, or if you know someone who might be interested, let me know right away!

Okay...little confused on rule #2. Are you meaning expansions?
No, it just means that your whole 'Good' team would have to be from, say, Marvel. So then you could use any of the characters from the Marvel expansions on your team. But, just because you chose Marvel for your 'Good' team, you wouldn't have to choose Marvel for your 'Evil' team ... you could choose DC or Indy.
Or, if you chose DC for your 'Good' team, all of your characters would have to be from the DC sets, but your 'Evil' team could still be Marvel or Indy (or, heck, even DC).
You just can't mix universes within the same team. Is that more clear?
Good, someone else asked that.
The way it read, it looked like it was only DC for the Border War, which is why I was confused as to the mixing universes thing. :p
Looks like I've got about 8-10 guys coming with me........
Kansas has no chance. ;)
Hey thugit, where do live that you get to all these cons? I may have to try to get over there and represent the STL. Gotta see if I can get off work and if the wife will let me, but lets hope.....

good luck kansas;)
I'm right in the middle of Missouri.
I'm not going to that many. This one is about a 4 hour drive, and the one in Atlanta is the big one. I should be at Philly, but it's hard to say.
What, no Chi town?:) If I can get a big tourney going I'd love to have you and your friends join in. Still trying to get set up as a venue at WK w/o a venue. Right now its my garage!!
Well, if you ever get it set up, let me know. We'd be glad to show up since you're pretty close.
Thugit, don't forget Indy.
Sorry Vandal and I won't make it, it is 1 week before the LA con and I have to get me a Galactus.
Anyway, if Vandal and I made it with the firepower that you are already assembling from the Show-me state, Kansas would be one big smoking crater. Have fun :)

Heh. I still think you guys should go. We'll only be gone 1 night, and with everyone splitting costs, it shouldn't be that expensive.
With all of the trash talk from you Missourians, and none from the Kansans, I'm hoping that the Kansas folks are just speaking softly and carrying big sticks. Otherwise, Kansas will just be one big, smoking crater when you guys walk out of here ...
And, being that we're still recovering from the whole being turned into one big, smoking crater after the events of "Our Worlds at War" and have glimpsed enough of the future to know that we get to look forward to being one big, smoking crater again in "Kingdom Come" ... well, we're kinda getting tired of it and it's scaring the cows.
:p :p :p
At least Superman had sense enough to leave.......

I'm gonna try Chi-town this year, but that's still a few months away.

Should be a blast!

So, where does Nebraska stand in all of this?

Im a Coloradoan you know I should go help Kansas and I will! Go Kansas! They did WIN the border war in college football. Go Kansas! Oh that reminds me I forgot Nebraska. (Hatred of Huskernation wakes up) You know what Kansas you should be able to hold your own. If they get though you we'll take care of them I think. While your doing that.... (Rage comes upon him) WE WILL TAKE NEBRASKA! ALL COLORADOANS RALLY TOGHETHER TO DESTROY HUSKERNATION ONCE AND FOR ALL! WE WILL GO TO SCOTTSBLUFF, AND LINCOIN, AND TAKE BACK I-76 THEN FINALLY WE WILL TAKE THE CAPITAL OMAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!
(Does Howard Dean Scream) WWWWAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

OK! Omaha is now the capital of Nebraska?! I new I should have gotten a better map!
Why take back I-76? That is already in Colorado and I don't think anyone wants it, it is worse then driving I-80 through Nebraska.
We'll just have to see how Colorado holds up at the Central Regional Championship in March. There should be a pretty good showing for Nebraska there. So far I've gone undefeated the few times I've played in Colorado. Hope you raise the bar or the Huskernation will be walking away with all the glory. (SOMEONE HAS TO, THE FOOTBALL TEAM COULDN')
Hope to see you all at GorillaCon and the Central Regionals!

Well, I cant' make it. I just got on a crew in CA and I'll have travel out there on the days of the GorillaCon. The cool things is I'll be able to make it to WWLA now and get my Galactus and Surfer!
Jacin, just to double-check...
1 good team, either universe.
1 bad team, either universe.
Don't need a good and bad for each, correct?
That is correct.
You need one good team, all of which must be from the same universe (DC, Marvel, or Indy).
You need one bad team, all of which must be from the same universe (DC, Marvel, or Indy).
The two teams do not have to be from the same universe. You can have a good DC team and a bad Marvel team, or a good Indy team and a bad DC team, etc.
Alrighty, gotcha. I was wondering about that because of the way the events are listed on the website of the con.
Thanks again!
Is there a Highlander rule in effect?
Yup, even on generic figs, from what I remember. :)
Well, it doesn't specifically say that anywhere, unless I missed it. (Which is entirely likely.)
I'm just hoping that Mr. B can confirm this for me. (And everyone else)
Let me check my PMs from Mistah B, see what he said there.
Hm, thought that was mentioned somewhere, maybe I'm thinking of another tourney.
Couldn't find anything in the PMs, so now it's up to Jacin.
Nope, no Highlander rule. :)
Use what you want to use as long as it fits in the rules as outlined here and on the WizKids site.
*blinkblink* Holy carp.
I think I may have to remake my teams now.
Indeed. My team isn't quite as good knowing there are going to be hooker bombs!!!
Heh, I wasn't as worried about the HBs as I was the though of multiple Batmans out there. *twitchtwitchshudder*
But are the hookers Good or are they Bad? ;)
No kidding. How about 2 Batmen and a hooker bomb?!
I figured that if there were new players(ie: people who might just get into the game while there), they might not have enough figures to play if there was a no Dupes rule in place. Sorry.
Oh, and how 'bout them Mizzou Tigers? Eh? Was that a great basketball game or what? What a comeback. What a way to close down that facility. What a way to send off the seniors. Nothing like showin' them Jayhawks who's the ...
Oh, wait ... the Jayhawks beat them, didn't they? ;)
Heh, was wondering when that would come up. :p
THIS is the reason I don't pay attention to sports. Makes it easier to work on planning the HC teams to keep Kansas a smoking crater. ;)
Yeah, I don't think you'll find many Tiger fans here.
Doesn't mean I like Kansas, though.

Yeah, it's hard to find one anywhere that'll admit it ...
It's okay, though. The Tigers will probably still get to go to the tournament ... well, at least the NIT. And hey, they might even win that one ... you know, so they could be king of the losers.
I hope they don't even make that.
I'm not a fan of a school getting tax dollars to build an arena that they don't need. Plus, Quinn Snyder is obviously crooked, as is the entire MU program...
Trust me, I'm not a Tiger fan.
...but Kansas must still pay!

Can't happen. The hookers are Marvel figs!:(
Shh, you'll dent his ego. ;)

HOW BOUT DEM BUFFS TAKIN NEB DOWN ON SR. NIGHT MORE PROOF NEBRASKA IS BAD.
COLORADO SHALL BRING ALL 4 MILLION HOOKERS TO UR CON. EVERYONE! IN OUR STATE! (Howard Dean Scream) AAAYYYYHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
P.S. Read my first post on pg 2 its funny lol!
Jacin, are the hookers good, bad, or neutral?
Same question, Paramedics good, bad, neutral?
Paramedics will help anyone. Hookers (ie: Con Artists) will also 'help' anyone. So, they're both neutral.
At least Invisible Girl can't team up with Sentinels. Right?
That's the biggest abuse out there. I don't mind the hookers with Sentinels, but IG makes it tough.
How are the games going to be played, Jacin? Good teams against bad teams? Will the good teams ever play other good teams? Bad vs. Bad?
Good vs. Bad in each game. Each side will play good twice and evil twice. And they will alternate games ... so, you'll be bad, good, bad, good. Or, vice versa.
Good teams will never face other Good teams. Bad teams will never face other Bad teams.
Invisi-Girl is good, and the Sentinels are bad, so they won't be teaming up for this fight. ;)
Good isn't necessarily going to play Bad from it's universe, right?
Right. There's no telling what universe you'll wind up playing against in any particular game. It depends on what your opponent brings, your win-loss record, which round you're playing in, etc. ... I'm not going to factor what universe you're playing into the pairings.

This goes out to my new homies form Missouri “ ThugIt, Dax, mattsolo, and the rest”.
You left Kansas as a smokin’ crater, even though ThugIt played for us. ” I know, you
couldn’t do it all by yourself.” LOL. I really had a lot of fun. Hopefully we can get
together again sometime. I just hope you guys made it home OK. Thanks for a fun day.
And before I forget CONGRADS to NAES72 for takin’ 3rd.
MARK
Had a great time!
Thanks to JacinB for running a smooth tournament, and thanks to all the great players that showed up and made it such a great time.
Since Kansas didn't have enough players, I switched sides to help Kansas.... I went 4-0, but it wasn't enough! My boys from Valhalla's Gate were just too much for Kansas!
Great time, and Jacin, I again thank you for running such a cool event, and doing it well. You're the man!
Woo.
Had a blast at the con, guys! Thanks Jacin for putting up with us MO guys, even though a couple of us were traitors and hopped over to KS. ;)
Let me just take time to say thank you to all of you guys who drove down there for it. I honestly had as much fun running it for your as I would have had playing.
Because, quite frankly, if I'd've been playing there are a few of you who would have absolutely slaughtered me. ;)
I'm glad you guys had fun. It was great to finally get to meet all of you in person. Hopefully, we can do it again sometime.
Had a BLAST!!!!
Everyone had really thought out teams...it was good to play with a few new faces (CURSE YOU thugit!!!;) ).
Thanks for the good time...it feels good not to have to eat our own words!!
Well guys, at least I was beating you in a new environment this time......
