Hey guys I started a thread on the DC side for comics to read and I want to get to know the Indy comics as well. So can you guys give me some good TPB's to read that will give me a good background and history of some of the Indy heroes? Any help would be great, thanks!

Essential Indy TP's

Nexus by Baron and Rude (Dark Horse)

Ghost by Eric Luke (Dark Horse)

Cerebus by Dave Sim (Aardvark/Vanaheim)

all of those have multiple volumes.

A lot older and harder to find, but worth it:

The Judge Dredd series (Titan Books)

American Flagg by Howard Chaykin (First Comics)

Love and Rockets by The Hernandez Brothers: Heroes meet everyday life (Fantagraphics)

Those who have only seen the cartoons will laugh, but the last selection is much fun:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Eastman and Laird (First Comics) It started as a joke, but became so much more.

Absolute must have. The Watchmen of the indpendent world:

Elementals: The Natural Order by Bill Willingham (Comico)

While not technically Indy, I have to reccomend PLANETARY by Warren Ellis. A tribute to all the genres that make up and preceeded comics as we know them today. A sort of what if history went sideways.

My biggest Indy suggestion if you ever liked Sherlock Holmes at all, is Crossgen's RUSE. Hands down the best comic published by anybody the last two years.

Sorry. Last one.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Top Cow/Image)

Any and all are fast paced, fun, lighthearted action, with awesome art. If you ever liked Indiana Jones, or just adventure stories in general, these books are for you. You don't need to know anything about the games or films to enjoy these books. But it will increase your fun.

There's a big pink Danger Girl TP that is a heck of a lot of fun to read. Less like a superhero book than Indiana Jones meets pinup girls. And I highly recommend any Hellboy TP you can find. Just buy them all now; it'll save you the trouble of buying them all later.
