Is hellboy worth getting into?

been thinking bout picking up hellboy comics and getting them monthly. is it worth it? is it good, is it worth the money to get the back issues. do i need back issues to enjoy the current ones...can ya gimme a lil help?

I like it so far, but I've been just buying up all the trades, trying to read them in order, if I can. I can't speak for the monthly stuff yet.

But Hellboy's pretty cool.

Great book, doesn't weigh itself down with "issues" (think of x-men awe, the world hates and fears us boo hoo) All around good solid consistent Character, Hellboy was basically summond to earth

By NAZIS!! BUT thankfully for the good guys who had their own physics and stuff, predicted that yes hellboy is coming to earth BUT he is coming to earth at the location of the allied forces thus making sure Hellboy grew up loving mom and apple pie instead of siege heil mein furhur!!!

Supporting cast Abe Sapien, liz sherman and roger the homoculus are all very strong characters in their own right. Read the Seed of Destruction first then read at your leisure, they sorta follow a time line

Wake the Devil
Almost colossus and other stories (this has the wolves of St. August in it too)
Right hand of doom
The Conqueor Worm

I think there are only five TPB but I could be wrong and there are a bunch of "loose" Tps' dealing with Hellboys crossovers, Batman, Starman, Ghost, PainKiller Jane, and there is a BPRD TP that deals with Abe, Roger and another new guy, but doesn't have Hellboy in it, BUT it is an awesome read!! Right now there is a sereis going on called Hellboy weird tales which is just a bunch of loose stories that artists have done for the character-
And if this doesn't sell you, go check out the preview to the hellboy movie coming out on April 2, 2004!!!!

I highly recommend! If you're interested in checking it out without risking cash there's a bunch of free online versions of some shorter stories available at the official hellboy website.

definatly go for the TPBs because the current stuff is iffy. you see, Mignola is supervising the Movie which should be in the Can by now; but anyway...other people have been doing Hellboy Weird Tales and BRPD...and they've been dropping off in Quality. Get the TPBs and look for the Two Novels By Christopher Golden and the Anthology Edited by him. I keep posting this link for people:
