I just submitted him to Syzyx's contest as the first of my three entries, but I'm really really proud of how Union Jack turned out. Hop on by and take a look, feedback always appreciated. :)

Wow the eyes are amazing, the entire fig kicks. I am trying to understand the wash technique and i was wonderin if that is how you did the black on the blue

Great job. I always look forward to seeing new stuff from you. Outstanding all the way around. Can hardly wait to see how you tackled Spitfire. I'm working on her for my Invaders team.

*Blush* Aww, thanks guys. :) I was pretty sure I had a winner on him once I finished the blues. As for how I did the black on blue...I didn't. ;) The shadows on UJ are all color based. So any area with Red has deeper red shadows (Which don't show that well except in RL and kinda close up) The Blues are three shades from a dark midnight blue, to a regal blue (Which was also the color of the blue parts on the Union Jack Emblem) to a "generic" blue that was used for the highlights. So the depth on the upperbody is all just shades of Blue. I learned the effect from the guy over at Hot lead.org and it just turns out awesomely IMHO.

Eyes: Well here's the thing I noticed. Anime eyes are usually huge whites and huge pupils. Most cartoon eyes are small to no whites and little pupils. Real eyes have an iris/pupils that take up a lot of space (Comparitively) and are rarely visible as a circle when you look at someone. The "Top" and "Bottom" of the circle of your iris gets cut off by your eye socket and your eyelids. So when I paint eyes, I make sure that the iris/pupil never ever is a full circle. Beyond that, the trick is to make sure you have them looking at something. I generally try to have them looking in the direction that their head is already pointing (So it makes sense and all) and then just be really really careful. Another trick, once you are done, add some "eyeliner" in the form of a darker flesh or thin black edge below the eye and above it to make a clear defining line. (My girlfriend taught me that one. It works in RL for them, so why not for my little plastic men?)

The sculpt: If you can, go take a look at a Captain America fig. Once you remove the right hand from it's perch on his hip, you have a lot of options. Just blowdry the fig until it gets loose, repose the arms and you get a much better pose right off the bat. I was actually shocked at how GOOD that fig is when I started really working on it.

Now, as a fun exercise in imagination, I used the following figs to make Spitfire. See what you come up with mentally.

Black Cat
Typhoid Mary
Clayface III

I should have her painted by the end of the weekend along with the good baron and then posted (hopefully) before the week starts.
