I liked how Robin looked...that's it. I enjoyed the story. Like as soon as Batman gets out of the chopper Superman says "You owe me 5 dollars." Good times good times...

Superman looked a bit young for my liking, but other than that Pat Lee is pretty good.

I can't wait for Turner to take over the art chores in that book.

As a fan of Ed McGuiness's style, this did leave me a bit cold. I guess if it had been a separate series then it wouldn't have been so noticable for me. Hell, I read Superman : Birthright and I struggle with the artwork in that series big time - and yet I still buy it

I love Pat Lee, but this book wasted his talents. He made Superboy and Robin look too old, and Superman look too young. His figures are pretty, and his art interesting, but his storytelling is really rough - meaning while panels a, b, and c might LOOK really nice, individually, it's hard to tell what's going on in story progression from a to b, b to c, and the overall arc from a to b to c.

Meanwhile, Jeoph Loeb decided that since people recognize Lee most for Transformers that he had to have pointless big robot fights in the issue. *yawn* If I wanted to see big robots beating each other up, I'd read Lee's Transformers stuff. Again. But why in the world did Roin and Superboy need their own Manga-Bots to take on Metallo? Huh? *sigh* I hope this book gets better, because I usually love Loeb, but these tales are leaving me flat and seriously underwhelmed.

True, Storytelling was weak... I couldn't take the little heads on the bulky bodies. In addition, I felt the coloring was muddy... it didn't helpt to seperate items.

Overall not good. Story was okay, but purely filler and advanced nothing.

They needed a one shot.... Works well with the fact that they just dealt with this "new Toyman" and you'll notice they tied in the ending with Hush (Batman losing his mechanic) It tied a few things up in one issue and well you can't fault them for that too much. So as far as story and dialogue. Good stuff. Plus this ties in Teen Titans stuff that you'll realize is not Loebs stuff... it's G. John's

Yes the art was off and here's why. Superman and Batman are different in many ways. Batman is best in shadows, Superman is best in brightness. The whole thing was very very shadowed. Which destroys the point of this title which is to show the differences in the heroes. Again the differences where taken away artwise by making the large shouldered tall Superboy practically the same build and height of Robin. I think ol' Pat Lee has confused his Robins and is thinking that this Robin would be mr. Grayson. At least that's what I think.

And the overall coloring was off too. It was an interesting place to visit... but I wouldn't want them living here.

My roomate really liked the artwork in Superman/Batman... However, I really didn't like it too much. Pat Lee is a great artist, but he seems to struggle in this issue. The only thing that saved his art was the 'giant robots'.

But I also asked myself, why are giant robots in a Superman/Batman book?

Anyways, the only real highlight of this issue is the writing. The dialogue is a lot better than the past 6 issues together! If anyone should pick up this book it's for the writing. I'm not a huge fan of Jeph Loeb, but this issue actually flowed well in terms of dialogue.

The main problems with this issue have been identified above -

Giant Robots - not in this series, thankyou
On shot issue - no time to build momentum
Not building on what had gone in previous issues - the differences between Superman & Batman
Emphasizing the point above - The title's not Called 'Superboy & Robin' - Not enough of the big 2. If I want SB or R, there are other titles with them in.

Looking forward - Can't wait for the next story arc - sneak peaks look very promising.

I'll say one thing in defense of this book, and responding to Battery Hen's point:

"If I want SB or R, there are other titles with them in [the books]"

One of my favorite issues of this series so far was the episode where the super-family and Bat-family stormed the White House. While I thought the portrayal of the characters was a little weak (with the exception of Nightwing, who was suitably hard-core...but why is it that this combined force fell prey to knock-out gas of all things? Come on! The bat-family alone must have a gadzillion defenses for this) - the issue on the whole was very fun. That's the best thing this book has going for it, really: it's just FUN. And while Superman and Batman have to be the focal points, I enjoy getting the supporting cast involved, considering how interconnected their respective worlds are.
