View Full Version : Warning Levels

Has anyone noticed the petty stuff we, as members, get warned for? I took some time out of my night to peruse these warnings slapped on various members and could not help but notice how infantile they are.... Things like "Stay on topic," " sexual innuendo," "having multiple accounts," and my fave, "cracks on religion." Wouldn't you think mods would have better things to do? Post your favorite warnings here!!!

I detect some sarcasm here. Sorry, but I'm going to have to immediately PM a moderator and report you.

Report me if you must. I'm just happy you spelled "you" correctly.

In my opinion, too few warning points (and bannings) are given out . . .

then why do you continue?

I'm not trying to continue or start anything.

I'm an innocent 5th grade elementary student attempting to access this site while enjoying a crisp March morning while drinking my Starbucks coffee.

And then you appear and start harassing me about dictionaries?

Do you like intimidating little kids?

Should I get my Dad? He's a lawyer.

Hmmm...with such elaborate interjections like this, no wonder you are a Top 10 poster on this site.

4AD, what is your problem. There's no reason to be this caustic in the morning. And why are your parents letting you drink coffee young as you are, anyway? That'll stunt your growth. I know because mine let me drink it since I was in 2nd grade. Probably explanes the shakes :)

LOL Shin-Goji has one warning point! Try to maintain it Goji.

There's no problem Captain.

Just because a dude doesn't like using the smiley faces, doesn't mean he isn't joking.

Okay, let's run through a few of those...

"Stay on topic"
I'd need to see the specific example to make a call on why it was issued, but we have had cases where members will deliberately derail a topic and disrupt reasonable discussion. If you're not going to talk about the subject at hand, start a new thread.

"Sexual innuendo"
For the most part we don't mind a bit of wink-wink nudge-nudge around here, but you have to keep in mind that some people are more sensitive on these issues than others. We try to keep things to a mild PG-13 on that front.

And yes, I know there is a terribly hypocrisy about the fact that we can talk about violence without issue but sex is bad, bad, bad. Just keep in mind that others don't share our views on all topics. (That's good advice in general.)

"Having multiple accounts."
Every time we've nailed someone for this, it's because they were using those multiple accounts in order to cause trouble of some sort. Some were using those accounts for flaming, others were using them to scam in the trading forum. Truth be told, if a member decided to go totally Sybil on us and lauch fifteen accounts, but all of them were well-behaved, we probably wouldn't notice.

"Cracks on religion"
Religion is one of the most important personal beliefs someone can hold. Mocking that is incredibly insulting, so much so that it gains a category above "disrespect to users." It's also one of the easiest ways to degenerate discussions into a flame war, which is extremely disruptive to the community.

And here's a little secret you guys could probably guess on your own: Your attitude has a lot to do with whether a warning is issued and how severe. If someone makes an off-color remark but is generally respectful, the bonk isn't going to be nearly as severe as someone who is obviously trying to be rude, crude and/or offensive.

Unless you've scored a Level 3 warning, it does go away. I've had one member confess that he was a little intoxicated when he made some stupid comments -- it's cool, in a couple months the points go away.

If you feel that a warning is completely unwarranted, you're welcome to write webmaster@hcrealms.com and state your case. It's happened a couple times, so if you really feel you're right go ahead and take the shot.

Yeah Raven, it's all in good fun. Just out of curiousity RavenProject, what would someone have to do to score 24 points even and just be on the edge of banishment?

Has a mod ever issued warning points to another mod? :)

I got 5 for "commercial advertising". People were asking where to buy Unleashed cases online. I posted a reply. I got 5. I took the chance and webby nailed me. In my defense...

- I get PM'ed quite a few times on where to buy (due to my trade reputation I assume). I figured I'd save everyone (including myself) the time to type the same thing over and over again.
- I was trying to point people to a reputable dealer. I know I've seen several folks in the past get scammed, especially on ebay auctions for cases.

Not that my reasons matter much. I posted. The thread got yanked. I got warned. *shrug*

Take a look at the warning levels and do the math. :)

For you... let's see, you could be a jerk on another run and score a 13-point "Repeat Offense," then follow it up with some nice 5-point thread bumping.

I leave it to your creativity.

Hey Raven, if we behave nicely, do our points go down?

RavenProject
03/08/2004, 17:11
Yes, your points do go down over time. I don't have time to look up the exact amount, but I think it's 90 days for Level One or Level Two warnings.

The exception is Level Three warnings, which never go away -- that covers things like blatant racism, multiple accounts, and posting illegal information.

Now simply being nice won't get us to accelerate that timetable, but over time most warning points fade out. (The comments stay, but the points fade.)
